Her life has gone from one nightmare of chaos to another. She has been humiliated, betrayed and left standing alone. Even love seems to torment her, but Andy and her animals cannot be kept down. This shifter will prove there is more to her than what meets the eye, because when this woman roars, someone may have pushed her too far. But will she ever find someone to love who will take her as she is?

Beast of All by J.C. McKenzie is that last journey into Andy’s world, the one that has seen one tough shifter take blow after blow only to find that the world is still not ready to leave her alone. More mystery, more intrigue, and oh, the drama! And time after time, Andy just gets back up, better, stronger and wiser!

This time out, J.C. McKenzie has outdone herself with high-velocity action, soul deep emotions and one of those finishes that you want to replay over and over! I’m not sure I could have accepted anything less than what J.C. McKenzie provided! Fabulous reading that has evolved with each addition to the series!

I received an ARC edition from J.C. McKenzie in exchange for my honest review.

What an ending! I'm glad J.C. reached out to me a few years ago to review SHIFT HAPPENS and continued to reach out to me with each release after that.

I was EXTREMELY confused when I started reading BEAST OF ALL. I felt like I missed a lot and had to go back to SHIFT WORK and make sure it ended like I thought it did. It did, but the author skipped over a major event when starting BEAST OF ALL and it takes a while to grasp the emotions that Andy is feeling because we are kinda just dumped into them. Having said that, BEAST OF ALL was pretty emotional. There is heartache, happy endings and every emotion in-between and not only on Andy's side. Even with a lot of the emotions being heavy, Andy was able to work through what she needed to to get things done and never gives up.

BEAST OF ALL had a lot of action and was heavy on the drama. There is a lot of things going on in BEAST OF ALL, but the flow is great and there wasn't one moment where I didn't want to keep reading instead of doing laundry or maybe feed my kids lol. Another great thing about BEAST OF ALL is that it wrapped up everything. We get a lot of final answers and I can honestly say that I don't have any questions left over.

I would love to say that I wasn't surprised at how things ended for the Carus series, but in its own way, it all makes perfect sense. I'm glad I was able to follow Andy's journey and I look forward to seeing what J.C. McKenzie comes up with next!

I’ve loved this entire series and I’m sad and happy to see the end. I never thought that it would end up this way when I read the first book and will say it was a plesantish surprise for sure.
I normally loathe love triangles and thought that McKenzie came up with a unique way of resolving it. It was rather bitter sweet to be honest, but it totally works out.
I will admit that I cheated with this book … when I first started reading it I had to skip to the end to see that that skinny-butt chick had been taken care of nicely. Despite knowing the outcome beforehand in regards to that I still enjoyed every twist and turn that came about on the way to that resolution.
I still feel bad about how she portrayed the lone human, poor Stan.

I so can’t wait for her new series. The entry of hers that I read in the Moon, Mist, & Magic: anthology was awesome and I look forward to seeing more about what she started there with Lara Stone.

Beast of All, (Carus 5),  J.C. McKenzie.

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews.

Genre:  Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy

I got a bit puzzled when I started this, thought I’d missed something from the end of the last book, but went back and checked and no, this really does leap forward over a massive event that changes Andy’s life.

Something huge happened, she got caught by the SRD, and now she’s down with the others, supes always rumoured to be kept by the SRD for experiments. Andy heard the rumours, but like others was unable to find out if they’re real. Now she knows they are, in the worst way and its her favourite(!) ATF man who’s taunting her from outside the shifter proof bars.

Andy’s determined to get free but they’ve somehow managed to detach her feras and Beast and she needs them. She’s lost without them, furious at being captured, grieving, worried about her witch friends, the lads taken  by the Elders for breaking the rules. She’d promised to fetch them if they weren’t returned within a reasonable time. Now she’s trapped, no-one knows where she is, she can’t help anyone, and with the Pharaoh jousting for  domination of not only the vampires, but all Supernaturals her help is needed badly.

It seems like rock and hard place doesn’t it – but its Andy, we know somehow she’ll get out, and she does, and gets help from a most unexpected source.  Look out bad guys – Andy's out for vengeance and justice.
She needs help though, its too big to do alone and this dilemma, the need to stop the Pharaoh from his evil plans takes all supes working together. That's not easy, they don’t trust each other, there are past issues between some of them and of course with more people involved the chance for leaks is high.

It’s really hard to say too much about this book without giving anything major away. I loved it – I can say that, am really happy at the way it ended, and loved being along with Andy and co for this final battle. I enjoyed the usual banter, the snark, the jealousies, all the things that make these characters seem so real. I care about them, want things to work out, and was gripped all the way through by the way this one played out.
Its a really climatic finish, things sorted so that they make sense, no loose ends, just a really satisfying finish to Andy’s struggle to find out more about herself, to the puzzle of her being a Carus, and to the plots and machinations that have dogged her for so long.

Stars: Five, a cracking finale, a really satisfying finish. Now I need the time to read it all the way through – books 1-5, back to back to really get the full Andy experience.

Well we have arrived at the end of the Carus series and while I was not in love with every book the series kept building and the plots were always exceptional and they seem to get better with each book.
This one picks up after the last book with Andy being held prisoner and plotting revenge. I am glad to say we don’t stay in the situation too long because it would have become depressing fast so you might need to remember to breath for the first 20% of the book, lot of stuff happens fast.
This book does a great job of cleaning up all the loose ends and revenge for all is always a great story in my book. The romance part of this book was one of the few points that bored me, it seemed we played the same scene over and over a few times and it was getting old before it moved on.
The ending while greatly satisfying in most respects did seem a bit rushed but the author had left us with so many bad guys that needed payback that to take too much time would have required another 100 pages but it does come across as a bit rushed.
Bottom Line: Loved it, can’t think of anyone who was not dealt with in some form and a few surprises along the way. While one of my recurring complaints about this series were the bad guys being really disgusting I found that she made one of them at least tolerable which was an interesting move but also not a lot of time spent on that either. So other than a bit too little time spent on everything BUT the romance and a bit too much time spent on the frustrating romance it was a pretty darn good send off. Highly recommended 4.5 Stars

What an exciting series

The conclusion of this series which has had so much loss was strife with vengeance and discovery. Andy and Mel are the closest female relationships throughout the series filled with so many other misguided “chicks”. The resolution of the love triangle between Wick, Andy and Tristan was tragic. I am pleased this shifter, were, vampire, demon and witches tale had a refreshing slant to their capabilities. I would definitely read another series by this author.

Torn between lovers, devastated by secrets revealed and tortured by enemies, what more can happen to Andy? This fifth book is a stunning conclusion in this series. This is not a standalone book. It must be read in the order written. I have been waiting for this book and eagerly devoured it.

This story starts out dark and gets grimmer. This story picks up right after Andy's gone on a killing rampage in a berserker rage. Trapped in a hellish off-the-books government site, Andy is kept as a lab rat for testing. When it seems like there is no hope, Andy finally gets a lucky break and freed. Instead of immediately going for revenge, she takes a different path. This turn in the story was a bit confusing for me at first. It slows the story pace down and almost makes it too slow. It's a time for self-discovery and healing. At first, I didn't like this slowdown because it felt a bit too boring. However, a few key elements needs to take place which brings it all together. Just when I think it can't get any slower, Ms. McKenzie kicks it up into high gear.

The last third of the book is when events move at a fast pace and it's adrenaline pumping good. Several of the conflicts from the previous books are resolved. Most especially, her romantic ties which were complicated and heartbreaking - finally come to a happy resolution. What is surprising is how many who have been against her are now becoming her allies. And amusingly, her issue with how to pay the bills and have a house over her head is completely taken care of. This story is a nice balance of bitter and sweet. Out of several painful experiences, Andy grows into a stronger and better person. I liked watching her grow under this pressure. How she resolves her inner conflicts and hurt feelings also worked well for me.

This world is a fascinating one for me. Even though this ends the story of Andy and her specialness, I wish there would be a spin off or more in this world. Ms. McKenzie creates a world with intriguing characters and many possibilities. Some of the secondary characters who are anti-heroes just scream out for their own story. (Hint hint) What I enjoyed most is the character development. There are no good guys in this book. There are various shades of grey. Each character is flawed and they have their own reasons for their madness. This thread of realism makes the story more engaging and poignant. This urban fantasy is recommended to readers who enjoy flawed characters who are survivors.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the fifth and final book in this paranormal urban fantasy series, and I can't say enough good things about it. If you already love J.C McKenzie's writing, I'm sure you're as excited as I was to find out who lives and who dies in the final battles. If you haven't read the rest of the Carus series yet...what are you waiting for?

I so thoroughly enjoyed this series and each of the many characters throughout. Like Game of Thrones, some of them get killed off in the course of the story, and bad stuff happens and yes I cried. Even the despicable characters are ones I care enough about to need to see them come to justice of some kind. I found myself pleading with my e-reader as I whizzed through pages far into the night. Don't just kill them, Andy. Make them pay

The author shows us Andy starting over in Book Five, from her absolute weakest point to stronger than she's ever been, coming full circle not just physically but mentally. She realizes sass and sarcasm can only get a girl so far, even when she's a total badass like Andy. I loved her character throughout this entire series, and loved the slow arc of growth, but she's reached the point in this book where she needs to make the hard decisions and finally face all of her fears. Alone.

I absolutely loved and appreciated the subtle ways the author ties up every single loose thread from the entire series without making it totally obvious that she was doing so-- the mark of a truly gifted author. I don't usually like bows on every storyline, but in this case, it all worked so fluidly, with no hint of anyone bending into a pretzel to fit into their assigned spot.

You totally need to read this series from the beginning in order to understand the characters and the dynamics of the supernatural world the author creates with such detail and care. While each story is its own satisfying read with its own complete story arc, start with book one and read from there. Trust me. If you like shifters and other paranormal creatures, you will love Andy McNeilly and her world. I promise you won't be disappointed in this fabulous paranormal tale of love, loss and redemption. I only wish I had more than 5 stars I could give it.

I've loved the entire Carus series from the very beginning. Andy is the perfect heroine, vulnerable, kickass, stubborn, loyal, mouthy, and she makes her fair share of mistakes throughout. I still want her for my BFF. :) She's had to make some tough choices and endure a lot of heartache, and Beast of All ran the gamut of emotions. I cried, I shook my fist, I laughed, I sighed with happiness...all the feels people. All. The. Feels.

I can't decide which book in the series is my favorite, because they're all amazing, but Beast of All was a fabulous and absolutely satisfying conclusion to a great story. After getting through the sniffles (I knew someone I loved would die in this book, I just wasn't sure who...sob) and Andy's grief and healing, which was heartbreakingly beautiful, there are some witch friends to rescue, a mate to convince, revenge to be had, and the ultimate Big Bad to take down. I absolutely loved how all the characters I've become so fond of banded together, from shifters to Demon, vampires to witches, humans to who-knows-what-he-is Clint. Many of the characters who started out as Andy's enemies slowly became allies over the series, which made me happy because while they weren't nice to her at first, they were still impossible not to like. Andy doesn't always make it easy to be nice to her. :) I loved how she came to terms with who and what she is, as well as what she wanted. She so deserved a happy ending (as does her shifter mate...no spoiler here!), and while she had to work for it, she got it.

Beast of All was beautifully written and will both break and warm your heart. I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this excellent urban fantasy series. Five plus stars, all the way.

Andy McNeilly's life has become a living nightmare. Two months ago she was kidnapped by the SRD and pumped full of drugs. Those drugs have made her lose contact with her feras, thus leaving her without the ability to shift. She has even lost touch with the beast within her. The only thing she can think of is to escape and seek revenge on everyone she considers the enemy.

Now all Andy has to do is heal, get back her feras and recover her strength. All before the many bad guys take her out of the picture. And now days she isn't even sure who she should consider a friend, so who can she turn to for help?

BEAST OF ALL is fantastic!! I have heard many people say, and even said it myself, that I couldn't put a book down ... well this one was impossible to put down. I have read all of the Carus books by J.C. McKenzie and though I will miss this series BEAST OF ALL was a perfect ending to an amazing series. It gives Andy closure in many area, including that of the heart, which I can't go into as I do not do spoilers. She also gets to clean up some areas that needed badly to be cleaned up and kicks some righteous butt in the process. Something she is very good at by the way. All the Carus books are in my to-read-again shelf and I can't wait to see what else Ms. McKenzie brings her readers.

4.5 stars (review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)

Even though “Beast of All” is book #5 in the Carus Series, it can be read as a standalone novel. However, after reading it, I know you’ll most definitely be itching to read books 1-4. Why? Because you’ll want, crave, feel compelled to find out more about key players in the series — their pasts and how they got from point A to point B.

After witnessing the passion, heat, basically a tsunami of emotions rolling between Andy and Wick, I never wanted this story to end. Fighting together, fighting each other, there’s one thing evident… they loved each other. However, before a HEA was achieved, we were presented with some outstanding, unforgettable, and BADASS battle scenes. Andy, you are a BADASS woman/shifter (Carus).

The rest of the supernatural beings were just as memorable and smoldering as her (Andy). Seriously, I think J.C. created the sexiest, most lethal group of characters housed in one story.

Various shifters, vampires, witches, and demons…..loved them all!

Speaking of demons, wait until you meet Sid aka the Seducer Demon. Him, I could’ve had a few more chapters of. Andy’s brother too. But hey, there’s always book #6; which can’t come soon enough.

Awesome conclusion!

I cannot count the ways that I love this book because there are too many! It totally made up for my rough time in the fourth book. I just really loved it. It tended to be a little bit more serious than the previous books but still had the right amount of Snark I needed to snort and laugh out loud at some of the parts. Andy still had the most wonderful personality even though she was grieving. The grieving and the romance in the adventure where woven in so well that everything was believable and emotional roller coaster had me laughing and crying. I absolutely adore the series and despite the fact that I don't really like love triangles or first person writing it just completely hits the spot and I absolutely adore the author is well! Since this series is over we had to say goodbye and that's emotional as well but I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

I really enjoyed this series. Now that it's over I'm kinda sad. This had action, romance and a dose of humor. Thats my favorite combination for any urban fantasy.
I was a lil confused in the beginning, I thought I missed a book. But after checking goodreads I realized I didn't. Everything wrapped up nicely. Some of it a lil too easy but this was intenional on the authors part and she handled it with a unique humorous twist that I appreciated. I got the ending that I wanted. And let me tell you, this never happens.
I finished this last night. I was looking at other books on my Tbr list and nothing is appealing. I am legit sad this series is over and I wish I had another book to look forward too. I didn't realize how much I loved these characters. Maybe we can have a spinoff in the future. Short story. Novella. Something?

A wonderful ending to a wonderful series.

Author J.C. McKenzie has spunky heroine Andy kicking butt until the very end, surrounded by her fascinating assortment of friends and associates, and adding in a couple of new and interesting characters.

BEAST OF ALL, book 5 in the Carus series, offers a charming and satisfying wrap-up to all the characters we’ve come to love. I especially loved the ending where Andy ….well, you’ll have to read that part for yourself.

Wow, this has been a ride. I am glad to have gotten my hands on all of the books at once since I didn't want to stop reading. Not your typical story idea, and not your typical easy answers. You even end up with the animals talking in your own head by the end of the day. There's romance, mystery, and drama. The ending is a blast. There's big secrets out in the open at last. I was given this story for an honest review and this is mine.

I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review. Captured and drugged by the SRD, Andy has lost her feras. Freed from captivity, she takes a tortuous journey to bring back her animals. Ultimate loss, redemption, and fulfillment, culminates in this last book in the series about shifters, vampires, and witches. Excellent storyline tie up, with a satisfying ending.

Great ending and I’m sad Tristan died but glad she ended up with Wick and found her brother. Also would like for Sonny, Allan and Clint to get stories. I did not like the previous book bc I felt like she rushed into love with Tristan. It didn’t feel right. Glad this book resolved everything.

Very exiting and unique with more than one shifter entry. Spoiler alert- I like how she’s a goddess and they have so much of her familial roots. This was a well researched in native Indian culture story adapted to a paranormal tale

This review was originally published on Myth and Magic Book Club

Myth: 4.5/5

So listen, without too many spoilers, the love-triangle resolution wasn’t my team, but I thought the overall story telling that got us there was really well done. I feel like this is the book I’ve been waiting for in this series. It’s got really tight pacing, finally gives Andy a minute to have some internal growth and really just wraps everything up neatly for us with a pretty badass bow.

Magic: 4.5/5

I’m a sucker for that magic tied to self discovery, and this is the book where Andy needs to go on brief side quest. She’s got plenty of villains to vanquish in Vancouver, lots of revenge to plot, but she also finally gets a chance to take a beat and heal herself and add a little magical self discovery.

Overall: 4.5/5

A heartbreaking and wonderful conclusion to Andy’s story. This book grabs you in the midst of a new scene where you can’t quite believe what you’re reading, and doesn’t let you down from there. Enjoy the ride and satisfying conclusion to the Carus series.
