Maple Winterbourne is a witch who’s down on her luck. She’s been unfairly stripped of her secret agent badge and wand and banished to Brightstone Bay, a town inhabited only by paranormals.
Before she can even begin to settle in, a dead body turns up, and Maple lands in the middle of a murder investigation. With her magic weak and the body count rising, she must do what she’s never done before—turn to others for help.
But between a handsome dragon with a killer kiss, a mischievous fox who claims to be her new familiar, a bossy sentient house, and a bridge troll who’s always in the wrong place at the wrong time, Maple isn’t sure who to trust.
Will she solve the crime and find her place in Brightstone Bay? Or will bad luck continue to stalk her, all the way to the grave?
Spells and Suspects is a funny, quirky, and heartwarming paranormal cozy mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different than what I was expecting. The hints inside the story that others know what may have happened with the main character is something to pay attention to. Waiting now to read the 2nd book. I hope its as good as this one is. I love the vivid descriptions of the colors and the buildings.
Spells and Suspects is book #1 in the Brightstone Bay Cozy Mysteries series by Paula Lester.
Welcome to Brightstone Bay! Maple Winterbourne, an ex-SNOOPS agent, has been exiled there. This is a magical, fantastic setting. The house is incredible! The citizens are interesting and then there is the murder that needs to be solved. I can’t wait to read more stories about Maple and Brightstone Bay!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next book in this series. The characters are fun. The story flow could be better, but I not complaining too much. The plot is easily followed and the premise is finding out who killed the Fae in Morgana's back yard. The answers were hard won and surprising, at least to me. I definitely recommend this book.
Maple was accused of killing her work partner and sent to Bright stone as punishment. It is an all paranormal town and Maple is having to make an adjustment to her lifestyle. On her first day there she finds a murdered man and is asked to investigate. It's a good book.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
