Kay has been drawn into a vortex of intrigue in the ancient world, of magic-wielding Wanderers, mesmerizing sylphs, powerful Nordic shamans, crafty mages. And now she cannot deny that her children are involved. Her son is channeling stories of abductions by threatening pirates. Her daughter’s mysterious lover sounds uncannily like a tenth-century Welsh musician. She tries to pull away from the medieval world but finds herself increasingly enamored with her spirit-travel. Is she the only one who can rescue her friends, who can tread in ancient caverns undetected to mind-meld with marauding ancient Jutlanders? If she takes the next journey to the past, will she ever see her children again?

A fantastic follow up in this uniquely compelling time-travel adventure saga. We're brought deeper into Kay's spellbinding journey, seeing her evolving powers, facing the intriguing ancient world of wanderers, mages and pirates. I can't get enough of our consummately engaging linguistic scholar heroine. We experience her conflict, torn between her cozy life she's building in modern times, her kids, new friends, and then the mystical old world of unseen energies, deeper connection to the natural, spiritual world; her affections for the dashing bard, a possible ally in the powerful (and hilarious) Nordic Chieftess, Ylva. Meanwhile, we learn more about the tragic past of her erstwhile nemesis, orphan of Germania, along with the clan of gypsy healers, giant metalworker, adorable Boldo. The magical folk she's so connected to are in peril, she's uncovering more and more, along with her unfolding powers. Now she faces the prospect of her kids getting involved... Judson crafts a gorgeous, edge-of-your-seat tale, I love her writing.
