I was fully onboard for the first bit, but then it took a hard turn when she started talking about chakras and past lives and homeopathic medicine out of absolutely nowhere

Dr. Tubridy does an amazing job explaining exactly what's happening to you both physically and psychologically when you're entering and in the midst of a state of panic. The knowledge is an incredibly useful tool for anyone suffering with anxiety/panic.
She does drift from pure science to spiritual later in book, as she warns in the foreword; but really all it is is another means of explaining what's happening and rationalising it for an even wider audience.
If you've ended up here for a relevant reason, I highly recommend this book; it helps.

I like the part about the chakra system. I believe yoga focused on balancing the chakras is very beneficial to those who suffer with panic and anxiety. Informative, but I did not care for the examples. The author should have used real stories. It felt like she wrote them based on what she knows about panic attacks and focusing only on the obvious symptoms that accompany an attack. The examples were just too similar.

Written by Dr Aine Tubridy who is a medical doctor and psychotherapist, the aim of this book is to help people understand what panic and anxiety really are. Tubridy gives tools for managing them.
Methods covered include?
Muscle relaxation
Managing thoughts
Changing avoidance behaviours
Chakra exercises
Tubridy uses her experience with patients and their stories to explain things. She encourages readers to take control rather than avoid triggers.
If you are expecting a book to solve all of your panic attacks and anxiety I don't know if there is such a thing and if there is maybe this isnt it. I dont know how many people with anxiety are in a mindset to purposely put themselves in situations eg making themselves dizzy, to learn how to fight these symptoms but I am only going by my own experiences.
Tubridy gives a good insight into what panic attacks are and this would be a good read for family or friends of people who suffer. This book may help people who have had minor panic attacks also. I can see this book helping people who feel alone and like this is only happening to them.

An informative and helpful book for anyone who suffers from panic/anxiety attacks. The author explains how/why a panic attack occurs and provides numerous methods sufferers can implement to assist in reducing the severity, frequency and length of panic/anxiety attacks. This book is also a great read for anyone wanting to gain a better understanding of panic attacks and how to help people who are suffering from them. #whenpanicattacks #aineturbridy #tea_sipping_bookworm #litsy #goodreads #bookstagram #bookqueen #panicattacks #anxiety #amazon#kindle

I think there were some useful things but there wasn’t much I a.) didn’t know and b.) that I felt was useful for people experiencing silent panic attacks.

Interesting food for thought, touches lightly on spiritualism and scientific methods to improve panic attack responses

I appreciated the information about what is going on during an anxiety attack, but I'm not into chakrahs (sp). The author dealt with this by pointing out that people have different belief systems and keeping that information mostly segregated in its own chapter. There was still helpful information even though I skipped chapter 8. There was also an audio CD in the back. I didn't listen to it, but I can understand how it could help someone train to quietly focus.
