I’ve always been that guy; charming, charismatic, the one that things come easy for. Baseball is the only thing I’ve ever had to work at … until her.

Maybe that carefree smile I wear is part of the reason why I’ve developed a reputation as a playboy. Okay, some of it is deserved. Deep down, under the one-night stands and fun-loving spirit, I’ve always wanted a lasting love like my parents have. One unforgettable night with Indie Moreno was all it took to know she was the one I want it all with. But my dream girl wakes up the next morning and declares we are one and done. No more.

When she moves to my city a year later, it's the second chance I’ve been waiting for. I make it my mission to prove to her I’m what she needs, even if it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

With more to unpack than just those moving boxes, will she let me be the one to help her, or will her fear force us apart?

A Note about Force Play: This is the fourth book in the Mile High Heart series which follows the Denver Bandits baseball team. It can be read as a standalone, but to fully appreciate the dynamic of the group, I recommend reading it as a series. Dom and Indie’s story starts as a failed one-night stand between frenemies. There’s lots of banter, some heavy pining from our hero, and caretaking. This book also touches on topics of parental death, cancer, and fertility treatments.

Hey! I'm Lo. As an avid reader I love contemporary romance with a side of humor. That's what you'll find in my books. I live for quirky characters that make you fall in love with them and equally intriguing secondary characters.

I sat down to write my first book because I was dying for more sports romance after devouring everything out there.

If I am not writing, you can find me watching my kids play sports, hiking with my girlfriends, or on vacation to a new place.

I have been (not so) patiently waiting for Dom and Indie's story from when we learned about them earlier in the series, especially when we find out what went down the night Dom and Indie met in book 3, Calling It Safe.

Dom is easily my new favorite MMC that Lo has written and he is top tier. He's got major golden retriever energy along with the whole boy obsessed trope down pat. He's down bad for Indie, and nothing will stop him from showing her just how much he wants her. Even though they shared a "failed" one night stand, Dom is convinced it was so much more than that, and he believes Indie feels it as well. Besides, he's been calling her his "future wife" for the past year they've been apart, and he's nothing if not determined to get the girl.

And our incredibly resilient Indie... My gosh, Lo put Indie through the wringer in this book, but it just showcases how courageous, brilliant, and strong she is. Indie has a lot of medical history to unpack in this book, not just her own, but her mom's as well, so buckle up, because it's an emotional ride, but Lo makes it oh so worth it when you read the bonus epilogue... NO SPOILERS. Just know I SOBBED.

I zoomed through this book in a day and a half because it was so good. Lo's books are incredibly addicting, and I'm always excited for her next release! Not to mention, the spice is always SPICIN' between her characters, but with Indie and Dom, we got some of the BEST banter I've ever read. Needless to say, you don't wanna miss out, so pick up this series (this is book 4, and I encourage you to read the previous), and binge read until your heart is content.

Read if you like:
- pro baseball romance
- boy obsessed
- black cat x golden retriever
- meddling group of grandmas
- cutest doggie sidekick
- strong friend group
- dual POV
- spice
- HEA

"𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘦?"

"𝘈𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴."

I have been running the bases reading this series and feel like I finally made it home with this fourth book. Seriously, I love this series so much. Each book is so special and when you put them all together it’s just perfection.

I am emotionally unwell. This book touched on subjects that are so important and scary at the same time but it was so well done.

Dom Duran is the sweetest & spiciest golden retriever and we have to protect him at all cost. He was attracted to Indie from the first moment he met her and that physical affection melded into so much more. His family was also the sweetest!

I freaking love the “failed one night stand” trope. Two people just being completely unable to stay away from each other is just so satisfying.

"𝘐'𝘮 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵."

Indie is an FMC that lost her mother to disease and has struggled trying to physically and emotionally cope with the consequences of that loss. The caretaking Dom does for indie through her struggles/crisis melted my freaking heart.

"𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶. 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘥?"

(Make sure to check the trigger warnings and protect your mental health!) 🫶🏼

That bonus epilogue was everything I could ever hope for! Seriously. I am still in tears while writing this review. 🥹🫶🏼

There is still one more book in this series, 𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝑩𝒂𝒍𝒍, for Xavier and I can’t wait to see what Lo comes up with for him!

What a stellar book!! Lo Everett has outdone herself with this newest book in the Denver Bandits world! Dom & Indie will knock your socks off with their romance because it had EVERYTHING. Spiciest spice ✔️ Man Obsessed ✔️ Hilarious Banter ✔️ Cried Happy & Sad Tears ✔️

Dom Duran & Indie Moreno meet a year prior to the start of the book and have instant RED HOT CHEMISTRY! Indie is a bit of a wild card, sweet but spicy and so hard on herself. She doesn’t want to repeat her past and end up falling for another playboy athlete, so she wants nothing to do with Dom past their one night hook up. Unfortunately for her, Dom takes one look at this beautiful feisty woman and knows she’s the one he’ll marry one day.

When I say Dom Duran is among the ultimate book boyfriends out there, I absolutely mean tip top of the list. Give the man a gold medal 🏅He is desperate to find the kind of love his parents have, and he goes through SERIOUS LENGTHS for his girl. When Indie wants nothing to do with him, he doesn’t back down but fights for her. His relationship with his teammates and family is absolutely to die for and their text chats were hilarious!

I really don’t want to give away any plot spoilers, so let’s talk about the spice! This man’s dirty talk is in the top echelons of all books I’ve ever read! Wowza. The spice starts early and so good, leaving you wanting more from them knowing their chemistry is off the charts. Lo somehow managed to make her MCs so hot for each other but also so caring & sweet.

I couldn’t put this book down and I’ll be thinking of these two for a long time to come!

This book series has been absolutely amazing! Dom and Indie’s story just might be my favorite 🤗

I absolutely loved how obsessed (in a good way, don’t fret) Dom is over Indie! Since that “one night” together he has not been able to get her off his mind! For the past year he has had her running through his mind and just knows that she has to feel the same despite the guard she has put up! He’s a literal golden retriever and I just loved that when they finally admitted their feelings for one another, he tackled everything and I mean EVERYTHING right along with her! He was beside her every step of the way and I loved seeing it 👏🏼

Indies character is amazing. I love how strong she is. After losing her mom and dealing with the possibility of health problems for herself- you understand her character and just why she is so guarded when it comes to loving freely! She is strong and independent, but I loved seeing her slowly let the love Dom had to give take root in her heart 🥹

I was surprised with how emotional this one was, but I welcomed it with open arms! The ending had me smiling so much and I just loved the friendship Indie and her girls had! Overall? Another perfect book from the Lo Everett! 🥳

I struggled with rating this. I feel this book needs another round of edits. There are continuity & POV issues that I couldn’t ignore.

Indie seemed to change her personality a lot and while some of that could be from grief/trauma it was a bit much for me. She is totally not a girls girl in this book and that bummed me out. She just forgot about her friends completely.

Good things:
Bi representation
Discussions of grief done well
Discussions of medical trauma & genetic screening done really well
Dom’s banter with his teammates and dad (enjoyed more than his banter with Indie)

Oh, man, Lo put Indie through the ringer in this book! Lord have mercy. She's struggling with her past and her potential future in ways that truly broke my heart.

Dom knows what he wants, and that's Indie. He's patient and thoughtful and just oh, so perfect for her. The things he does for her to prove that he's not just playing games and truly feels the connection they shared a year prior is swoon worthy.

Special shout out to the Bingo grandmas! Holy cow I'm not sure I've enjoyed a group of side characters more than this. They truly were a joy to read!

The spice in this book was also deliciously spicy and who doesn't love a Black Cat/Golden Retriever, One Night Stand to Lovers, pro baseball, strong friend group read? I know I do!

That epilogue! THAT EPILOGUE! Be still my heart!

Thank you, Lo Everett for the ARC.

How did we get here?!

HOW DID WE GET TO THE POINT THAT DOM IS MY FAV LO EVERETT MMC?!

I’ll tell you. She strung together words that twisted my heart and wrung it out. And then more words to soothe the ache.

I was screaming. I cried. I kicked my feet and giggled. This book was amazing

This was my first read by Lo Everett and now I want to go finish the first three books in this series because I am LOVING IT. It was so hard to put this down!

Force Play is the fourth book in the Denver Bandits Baseball series following Indie Moreno & Dominic Duran. This story will make you have all of the feels. I laughed, smiled, kicked my feet, and lastly, shed tears! When I started this book I didn’t expect for their story to grip my heart like it did! It was everything I needed and more.

Indie is such a strong FMC!! I loved her so much! All of the battles she went through and she was positive! She fought for what she wanted and I loved that! Dom. Dom. I LOVE THAT MAN. He literally fell in love at first sight and did everything in his power to get Indie back after he had a one night stand with her and wanted her since. He stuck by her side through everything and IT MELTED MY HEART! “You came” “you called” vibes!

I can’t wait to read the rest of this series! Thank you so much Lo Everett for the eARC!!

Dom. Duran. 👏🏼👏🏼 The way this man was OBSESSED with his girl had me grinning from the beginning. Indie said one night only, little did she know when her world flipped and she ended up in Denver, Dom would be by her side through every single thing she endured. The banter between these two was fantastic and when Indie finally opened her eyes to the man Dom really was my heart swelled for them. This was such a sweet HEA.

P. S. This man’s favorite meal was his girl, and he was feasting every chance he got. Lo Everett never lets me down in the spice department. 😮‍💨

The fourth installment in the Denver Bandits series and dare I say Dom Duran’s jersey is the one I’m picking up now?

I very much enjoyed Dom + Indie’s dynamic. The angst and banter was on point and when they finally gave into it .. well … YUM.

There are some sensitive topics written about in this book & I think Lo handled them exceptionally well - her words were honest, empathetic, and so so loving!

RELEASE DAY ARC Review— Force Play by Lo Everett 🤍

5 ⭐️

Mile-High Hearts Denver Bandits Baseball Series BOOK 4 ⚾️

Dom Duran. That’s it. That’s my review. No but really this book was SO DANG GOOD. And Dom…. Dom was everything and I love him. Everyone thinks that Dom is the life of the party, goofball, playboy, never going to settle down type, but after a one night stand with our FMC, Indie, he is a goner. The second he lays eyes on her it’s over. Dom wants to find a love like his parents have and once he meets Indie, he is going to do anything in his power to win her heart.

Indie is so lovable. She is a strong, confident, sassy woman who knows what she wants. And boy does she try to deny the attraction between her and Dom. BUT he does everything in his power to win her over. I mean everything.

The banter in this book is unmatched. So fun to read and slowly watch Indie let her guard down. While Indie is very closed off and going through serious emotional battles, Dom is there for her in a way that no one has ever been. He is truly the sweetest, most caring, attentive man and watching them fall for each other was literal perfection.

Tropes:

⚾️Failed one night stand
🩵He’s obsessed
⚾️So much banter

⚾️He helps her through a crisis

final thoughts: this was my first book by Lo Everett, but it definitely won’t be my last! I loved the characters, the banter, the pining, the growth, and the friendships.
I loved the playboy turned sweet obsessed/possessive “I want it all with you” trope and this was SO CUTE!!! The hurt/comfort scenes were well done and the triggering content was easy to swallow with the amount of sweet fluff surrounding it.

I have been dying to get my hands on this book, and am so so so lucky I was able to ARC read!

Dom and Indie… the chemistry 😩😍 the spice🤤🌶️

Lo Everett knocked it out of the park with this one!! (Pun intended⚾️)

Ate this book up, as I have with the entire series. As someone who had genetic testing done and has family members with the BRCA gene mutation, this one really hit home for me. The grief and anxiety was very well written and the support from Dom had me all teary eyed🥹♥️

This book was sexy and funny but also meaningful and deep. Overall, amazing book and highly recommend!!!

3.5 - This is the 4th book in the Mile High: Denver Bandits series. It's a one-night stand, frenemies to lovers, boy obsessed baseball romance. Overall the story was fine. Lo handled a sensitive topic with grace that deserves recognition, but I had A LOT of other issues with this book...

First of all, this could be a me thing, but I don't want to read 20% of a book where the FMC is in a relationship who isn't the MMC unless it's a why choose. This book is NOT a why choose. Then we have Dom, the MMC, helping the FMC unpack after her move across the country and we get a line about Poppy watching him carefully and him thinking "I get it guys, I'm the problem." I'm sorry, what?! Dom has done absolutely NOTHING to be getting shit from literally everyone in this book. At this point I was annoyed with everyone besides Dom. Literally everyone.

THEN, we get the FMC thinking "he knows better than to expect me to offer him a glass of water"... why? Because he should know you're a terrible person? This is after the MMC helped her move, built her bookcase for her, gave her a safe ride and safe place to sleep after breaking up with her girlfriend during a night out, takes said ex to the airport for her, and shows up at her place with coffee in hand. Makes complete sense that Indie can't have basic manners after all that. SAID NO ONE EVER. This is where I get annoyed with the label of a black cat because it's like it's free reign to write a straight up bitch.

Lastly, why are we not talking to our friends about everything going on? They are the reason you moved across country to have their support. And it quite honestly wasn't fair to the MMC to have no one to confide in with all of his feelings regarding the situation. Their friends could've helped him AND her. She was selfish and I didn't like her.

I couldn’t wait for Dom and Indie after getting some insight into their relationship in the previous book. And the wait was totally worth it!

Dom was an amazing MMC! He knew when he met Indie that she was it for him, that she was the girl he had been waiting for. Indie was a ton of fun too, and I loved their banter. She also has had quite a traumatic past that has made her hesitant in loving people and being loved back. And Dom was the perfect person for her. He was persistent, but also so patient with Indie, understanding that he couldn’t rush her or push her in any direction. But he was always there when she decided she needed him. Their chemistry was so so good!

I always love texting in a book, but who knew I needed a text chat between Dom and his dad! It was seriously one of my favorite parts and showed how wholesome Dom and his family were. I also loved Dom and his Bingo ladies!

This book has some heavy topics, but I thought they were handled wonderfully. You could see the different ways people react when life gets tough and it was really beautiful how Dom continued to show up for Indie.

Thank you so much to Lo for the ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

💭𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:
I didn't expect Dom and Indie's story to grip my heart like it did. Indie is very relatable, and her experiences navigating her family history of ovarian cancer, BRCA testing, and fertility are similar to my own. I appreciated how Lo approached these topics. These experiences and decisions are not easy, and I loved that Lo included it all - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Dom and Indie are perfect for each other, and I adored them together. They have amazing chemistry and I loved their banter. Dom has to work through the walls Indie has put up, but he does not give up. He was so incredibly patient and showed Indie what it means to have someone in your corner. Dom stayed by Indie's side through it all, even when Indie tried to push him away. He is a true golden retriever and shows he is much more than a playboy baseball player. What started as a failed one-night stand turned into something really beautiful.

The emotional moments will stick with me for a while, but there is no shortage of humor, swoony moments, spice, and drama. I love the Denver Bandits and their ladies. The found family element in this series is so good. I feel like I've really gotten to know the characters. The epilogues were perfect, and I loved seeing how things turned out for everyone. I can't wait to see what comes next!

Thanks to Lo Everett for providing me with an eARC. Opinions expressed are my own.

Indie Moreno is the definition of independent - she’s used to being strong and doing everything on her own, and has been through so much.

Dom Duran is basically a golden retriever puppy, happy, and has had it pretty easy in life.
Until he meets Indie.
He falls hard and fast, and is up for the challenge.

The way Dom never gives up on her, and supports her every step of the way, especially in her health journey, is so beautiful 🥹

𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗥𝗕: Indie has been going for a promotion at her job & when she finds out her boss is never going to give it to her, she decides to move to Denver. The only problem is that Indie isn’t sure she is ready to do long distance with her girlfriend. And there’s Dom the professional baseball player who lives in Denver. Dom & Indie shared an incredible one night stand that Indie pretends they didn’t have, even though that night deep down was special to her. Since then, Dom has been obsessed. Dom will not stop till he makes Indie his girlfriend. When Indie decides to go through with some life changing decisions, Dom shows up & supports Indie & does all he can in his power to take care of Indie.

𝗠𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: Ahh, I absolutely loved this spicy baseball romance!! Is it possible to clone Dom so every woman gets a chance to experience THAT kind of love?! My goodness, Dom is so incredibly swoony & is so tenacious when it comes to making Indie his. He doesn’t just stop there either because the way he shows UP for Indie had me melting. Indie has been through it all with losing her mother to cancer, dealing with phobia surrounding her bisexuality, & figuring out what she wants to do with her career & I loved seeing her character development through all of those trials & tribulations!

If you have been around for a while, you’ve read about my love of Lo’s writing beginning with her debut novel. I have been a part of her team since before she published her first book. It continues to be a honor to receive author’s words before everyone else and my role as a critique partner is an honor. Force Play is the fourth book in her Mile-High Hearts series.

If you have not started this series yet, I do recommend starting with All on the Line to get the background of all the characters in Force Play.

Force Play follows Dom and Indie who have spent the last three books exchanging playful barbs at each other and generally seem to not get along… but as fans of the enemies to lovers or frenimes to lovers tropes know, that only sets up great tension between characters and someone (or both) aren’t ready to acknowledge their real feelings.

Book Summary:

Indie is ready for change. She’s been strung along at work for too long – she’s been promised a promotion for her continued hard work but it is taken away from her and she’s just done. She’s no longer attached to staying in Chicago and since most of her friends are in Denver, she decides to move. Once she’s in Denver, she has to work to get her medical team in place considering her family history of ovarian cancer. Throughout this journey, she works to keep all her medical worries from her girlfriends. But she cannot seem to hide from her one night stand from a year ago, Dom. Dom left their night together ready to work for Indie’s heart, he wants the long lasting love that his parents have for himself and is sure that Indie is his happily ever after. But Indie has medical hurdles to clear before she is willing to think about forever, will she let Dom in fully to make their own version of happy?

Rating:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

Force Play does cover some heavier topics like the death of a parent (off page), cancer risk testing and fertility treatments – please read all of the trigger warnings before you begin reading Force Play because your mental health matters.

Lo, Lo, Lo. You gave us all the emotions in the book and by the end I was SOBBING. It was not a cute look, but I am here for it!

Force Play was absolutely fantastic. The golden retriever energy from Dom was every dream I had come true. But the end, supportive and can-be-serious Dom... I swooned so hard over this fictional man. When I read Calling It Safe I thought Dean Harrison was my new book boyfriend, but move aside. Dom Duran FOR LIFE.

There were moments in this book that I had to put it down I was laughing so hard. Tears were streaking down my face at this man who doesn't hold a thing back. He lives his life loud and proud, respectful when he needed to be, but overall just a true version of himself. They way he chased Indie was goals, and I just wish I could read this book for the first time again.

And Indie, guarded and reserved for a reason and we get to experience it all with her. I loved her story, while sometimes heartbreaking, but overall it gave me a morsel of hope for a tough day. I loved her support system and how she blossomed as a person after moving to Denver and eventually letting Dom in.

The twists here- I mean, elite. There is no other story, no notes, no nothing that I would have changed about this book. There is a particular moment where things were getting hot (SO HOT) and I busted out laughing. I have never had this happen before and It lives rent free in my brain now. PERFECT.

Oveall, every sports romance reader needs to read this book and all of Everett's books. They are unmatched.

If I thought I connected with Poppy, Lilah, or Mia…they truly had nothing on Miss Independent and the group’s resident black cat, Indie Moreno.

Indie has always had to be strong and after life throws her blow after crushing blow, a random one-night stand has her unable to forget the man who hits a little too close to her past.

Dom Duran is the golden retriever of all golden retrievers. With the “emotional stamina” to combat even the most prickly femme fatale, he shows up time and time again.

These two are the epitome of #couplegoals and despite the challenges thrown at them throughout the book, they fight tooth and nail for their HEA…and that *𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞* with everyone…come 👏🏻 on 👏🏻

I have a tiny suspicion we’re going to get a taste of one of the rookies in the last book and I’m not ready for it to end 😭

The way her past trauma holds her back into letting herself feel for someone new really resonates with me in a way I wasn’t expecting. Dom really turns it all around for her when he realizes his quick wit won’t cut it. He shows a venerable part of himself and I just love the way they both develop into better people because of each other.
•He shows up for her time and time again to prove he’s more than just a playboy and everything she deserves.
•She fights it for so long but eventually gives in and realizes he’s nothing compared to what she’s used to and sees him for the perfect golden retriever that’s only meant for her.

have been DYING for Indie and Doms story since their banter started in the series and let me tell you it did not disappoint. After a failed one night stand, some circumstances push Indie and Dom together.

While Dom gives off the most unserious vibes, he is the most caring, protective and compassionate person when it comes to the people he loves. Indie while strong was also soft and it was nice to see her character develop and open up to the people around her after loss.

Lo, you will be getting my therapy bills because I was sobbing by the end of this book.

This was my first by Lo and I loved it! It was such a good book with strong characters and a great storyline!

I am totally in an enemies to lovers mood and this one was done so well! I loved that Indie was such a black cat. She was strong and independent character especially with some of the struggles she faces!

Dom might be my new favorite golden retriever! He was so perfect and I love his banter with the other characters.

There were definitely parts of this book that kept me guessing and some surprises along the way that I loved!

I definitely need to go back and reread the other books!

I’ve been patiently waiting for Indie and Dom’s story ever since we got a taste in book 3, and it didn’t disappoint. Dom is so down bad for Indie, more than we even thought, and that was GREAT to see.
Indie really went through every single emotion possible in this book, and watching her learn how to accept help, especially Dom’s, had me screaming at her a few times. This focused on a very serious subject that was very well researched. I SOBBED multiple times. This was so, so worth the wait, and I’ve never rooted for a guy to get the girl more.

Lo Everett does not disappoint! She always has the most touching stories. This is definitely one of my favorites.
You follow Indie, who is an HR major, and Dom who is a professional baseball player. They have one night together and it changes everything. I loved that he fell first and would call her "my wife" while they were apart. Their struggles made their relationship a lot more realistic and I really enjoyed it. And you can never go wrong with found Family tropes
It was a fun read and I can't wait to read next books!

This is the fourth book in the Denver Bandits series, but can be read as a standalone (you do meet them earlier in the series).

As much have a have loved all the other guys throughout the series, let me just say Dom Duran is out her stealing more than just the bases…that man stole my heart! He is literally the sweetest man and was down sooo bad for Indie. The way he cares for her is literally everything. I loved it so much.
