A nice (somewhat slow) feel-good romance.

Anya has just lost her husband Drew in a car accident. She and her daughter Freya are moving to her aunt & uncle’s place at Halfmoon Quay, having had to give up what they had. Insurance does not cover claims based on an assessment of the circumstances. Her cousin Chloe helps her pack & move. In Halfmoon Quay is Rick who has always felt drawn to Anya. Rick’s Uncle Davy is not well, and Rick convinces him to take on Anya as an assistant to help run his hotel. The job gives Anya the confidence that she can be independent, and she is grateful to Rick. They find themselves growing close to each other, but the circumstances make it not so easy.

There are many characters in the book (mostly through the families) though Anya & Rick are the primary ones. Though the story alludes to some questionable dealings done by Drew, the characters are all simple & loveable. It’s honesty and simplicity are to the credit of the story, as are the characters. I felt it was a bit stretched but found it a relaxing & enjoyable read.

My rating: 3.75 / 4.

I received a free copy of, Just the Beginning, by Sarah Bennett, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Anya Stokes and her daughter Freya are in Halfmoon Quay, after the loss of her husband/father. Halfmoon Quay sounds like an idyllic location. I liked the characters in this book.

I have read several books with a similar storyline, but this is so well written that I was totally involved with the characters and their lives. Whilst there was no doubt how things would end up, getting there was a real treat.

Anya thought she was living the perfect life – with her handsome husband, beautiful daughter and wonderful house and no lack of money. Only when her husband dies does Anya find out the truth – her perfect life was a house of cards, and build on lies and fraud. Anya has no choice but to move to Halfmoon Quay, where her family give her accommodation for her and her daughter. When she bumps into her old friend Rick, and he organises a job for her at his uncle’s hotel life seems to be finally looking up for Anya. But is Rick just being friendly or does he have an ulterior motive?

A lovely story, with believable characters, and all of whom became like friends, and who I missed when the book was finished. I am hoping for a sequel.

2019 52 Book Challenge - 21) A Title That Sharts With The Letter "J"

I honestly found this book really boring. Anya, who gets called Annie for most of the book so that was the point of calling the character Anya, likes to blame all of her problems on anybody else, and honestly this put me off wanting to read the book from near enough the beginning, and the plot is so slow, a snail would win a race against it.

I did end up appreciating the list of characters and explanations of who everybody was at the beginning because at one point, a mass amount of characters was introduced and I had no clue who was who without the list.

Anya Stokes has discovered that she was living a lie. Her husband cheated many people out of their money and when he was on the verge of being caught, he committed suicide (mentioned, not described). When all is revealed, Anya and their daughter Freya have no choice but to move back to Halfmoon Quay and move in with her aunt and uncle. They are more than happy to help her out until she gets back on her feet, but she wants to be able to support herself. Rick Penrose is that person in the village who helps out everyone. He had a teenage crush on Anya and when she comes back home, he want to do what he can to help her out. His uncle needs help running his hotel, and Anya is available. He sets it up and she begins to work at the hotel, finally feeling a purpose and that she belongs. As she and Rick spend more time together, she realizes that he might be Mr. Right, but he's keeping secrets and when they come out, it causes Anya to back off. She doesn't want to get mixed up with another man she can't trust.

Sarah Bennett does a great job of creating real characters who are dealing with realistic situations. I really liked Anya. She has one goal and that is to support and take care of her daughter. She is willing to take whatever job she can find and learn what she has to learn. I loved reading about her learning to do plumbing and take care of a car. It made her very relatable. Rick is a great guy, but doesn't understand boundaries. He tries to take over and solve everyone's problems instead of letting them do it themselves. I did like his relationship with his uncle. He kept his secret, even though he probably shouldn't have. Anya is healing and the community of Halfmoon Quay is a great place to do it. As she heard how she was perceived growing up, she was shocked, but she grew from those revelations. There is drama, personal growth, friendship, healing, family and romance that all come together in a poignant story.

Just the Beginning is a compelling and poignant story of a new beginning for a young woman who has been betrayed.

Anya and her young daughter move back to the Cornish coast for a fresh start after her husband dies. He has left her at risk financially and she needs to rebuild their lives. She moves in with her aunt and uncle, and a young man she knew in high school reaches out to help her secure a job. She is desperate and everything is complicated. Will Anya find security and happiness?

Although the situations that lead to them are tragic, new beginnings are often inspirational tropes in which we cheer for the main character from the first page. Anya’s priorities include her young daughter, which raises the stakes in every decision she makes. Anya needs to learn to trust again and to secure her finances and housing. You will enjoy the well-developed and relatable characters.

A childhood friend who was also her secret admirer steps in to offer assistance. Some of his help backfires when he is too helpful. Can she maintain her newfound independence and trust him with her future? The intimate scenes in this slow-burn romance fade to black.

Poignant themes include starting over, found family, trust, communication, returning home, family drama, secrets, and supportive community.

Content Consideration: reference to suicide (in the past)

I recommend Just the Beginning for fans of the author as well as new beginnings tropes, complicated family drama, and childhood friends-to-lovers romance.

This story takes place in a lively sounding place called Halfmoon Quay. Anna and her daughter are headed to stay with her Aunt and Uncle. She’s determined to make a new life there.
This is a quick easy book to read and book one in a new series. If you enjoy stories of starting over and second chance romance grab this one. It’s the perfect beach read

This one was a very realistic read if I want to put it very frankly. The emotions and the situation of the main characters, Rick and Anya were so real and true that their feelings felt palpable. The storyline of how Anya overcomes grief, her relationship with her daughter Freya, the mixed emotions of confusion and keeping herself safe was so well portrayed. And on the other hand, the urge by Rick to fix everything albeit with good intentions rather than mocking someone also felt so real rather than fictional. The side characters of Penrose family were meshed in well in the plot. I especially loved the bond between Rick and his father and his brothers and of course his uncle.

Loved reading the first instalment of Halfmoon Quay series. Would definitely recommend for people wanting to go for a cozy read setup in a village in Cornish coast and if they can handle grief as trigger warning.

Just the Beginning is the first book of the brand new Halfmoon Quay series by Sarah Bennett. I adore feel good reads with a beautiful setting so I jumped at the chance to be part of the book tour when the opportunity arose. I'd also never read anything by Sarah Bennett before and had been meaning to for a long time so what more excuse did I need to jump right into this lovely story?

I really felt for Anya within the first few pages; her whole life has been turned upside down, inside out, topsy turvy, everything she'd once believed turned on it's head. She leaves everything behind and into the warm embrace of her extended family who are more than happy to envelop both Anya and her daughter Freya in their time of need. Rick in particular is more than ready to help Anya in any way he can, although he risks coming across as overbearing at times. He just wants to help everybody with any problem they have, but that can unfortunately seem like he thinks people are incapable of dealing with things themselves.

I think everybody would love to be a part of the Penrose family, with Ron and Amy at the helm. The whole family are loving and supportive, with some brotherly teasing thrown into the mix too of course. Each of the four brothers have their own unique personality traits and quirks, and Great Uncle Davy was a delight! It took me a few chapters to get my head around who was who but the character list at the start of the book helped and it wasn't long before I was familiar with the whole community of Halfmoon Quay.

My favourite thing about this book was definitely the community feel, as it's not just the Penrose family who welcome Anya and Freya. Whilst living in such a close knit community can have it's drawbacks I feel that it was just what Anya and Freya needed to help them feel as if they belong, particularly little Freya who has lost everything she's ever known.

All in all this was a lovely story about second chances and family, set in a beautiful coastal village. I've heard book two will be coming soon so I'm looking forward to revisiting Halfmoon Quay.

After the loss of her husband, and having found that she’s not going to be able to sustain the comfortable lifestyle both she and young daughter Freya are used to, Anya is glad to find refuge with her aunt and uncle and among the community at Halfmoon Quay – even if it means living in a shed at the bottom of the garden (although, I have to say, it’s quite a comfortable shed!) and needing to find a job.

Rick remembers Anya from their teenage friendship – she never knew how he felt about her then, but he’s soon only too aware that his feelings really haven’t changed. But he’s most keen to do anything he can to help her with her fresh start – there’s rarely any problem he can’t find a solution for, even if that can make him mildly irritating at times however well-intentioned his actions. But his elderly great uncle really is struggling with everything he needs to do at the beachfront hotel he owns, Rick is getting increasingly worried about him, and Anya would be the most perfect assistant – well, so long as she can put up with his particularly gruff exterior, and is willing to do everything the way it’s always been done.

Anya’s hurt and vulnerable, determined to stand on her own feet but happy to resume friendships and relationships from happier times – including a growing friendship with Rick, however much he’d secretly rather like it to be rather more. But some of his actions – never more than trying to help, as he always does – give her real cause to doubt his intentions, make her wonder if she’s been wrong to trust him so much, and think that she might have been betrayed yet again.

Something I love about the author’s books is the way she creates communities that make you feel so much part of their everyday lives – very real individuals, just living their lives, that soon become friends you really care about. While this book would work just fine as a standalone, it’s also the most perfect start to a new series, with so many individuals I’m looking forward to getting to know rather better. The map at the book’s start helped me picture its lovely setting – but the whole book was a perfect introduction, and I soon felt entirely comfortable about being part of the community, finding out about the various relationships and family connections. And, just in case you get lost a little, there’s a really useful list of characters too. And every one of those relationships, romantic or otherwise, is beautifully drawn – with some lovely emotional touches, lots of love, plenty of smiles and laughter, but with a few tear-jerking moments too.

This was a story I thoroughly enjoyed, with a few “to be continued” threads as you’d expect from the first in a series – and I’ll certainly be looking forward to spending more time at Halfmoon Quay. And, do you know, I think there are many others who’ll really enjoy it there too…

I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege of being able to read this adorable book!

Apart from a couple missed words in a few sentences, I absolutely adored this book! I was really worried at the beginning with the big long list of characters that would be apart of the book, that it would be really busy and hard to remember who everyone was. I've read a book recently that was exactly like but without a list of who each character was and it was overwhelming and too much for the same sized book. However I was really excited that that didn't happen here! I didn't even need to go back and forth to double check. It was so easy to follow, and each character was so different that it was so easy to remember who was who.

I know there's a story in this story and I loved the story itself, it felt real and raw and I loved it. However I loved the characters more! They completely stole the show for me in the best way possible! I fell in love with each and everyone of them and I really wished I had a family like that! I loved Davy, I know he's not the main character at all but he was real, and such a sweetheart. I also really loved that but towards the end! Issys nan too she wasn't featured much but she is so awesome and I wish I could be like here when I'm older! I really can't wait for more from these characters hopefully!!

I've got a new favourite cozy read author and I can't wait to read more by her! Thank you so very much from the bottom of heart again for letting me read this cozy comfy story, it came at the perfect time!

Just the Beginning by Sarah Bennett is a tender, uplifting story of second chances, family, and rediscovering love, set against the charming backdrop of Halfmoon Quay.

Anya Stokes returns to the Cornish coast with her young daughter Freya after the sudden loss of her husband reveals painful secrets and betrayal. Surrounded by her supportive extended family, she’s determined to rebuild her life on her own terms. Enter Rick Penrose—her childhood friend, local good guy, and someone who never quite let go of his teenage crush. Rick’s instinct to fix everyone’s problems is both his greatest strength and his biggest flaw, especially as Anya’s journey requires independence as much as support.

Bennett paints Halfmoon Quay with warmth and authenticity, filling it with a cast of memorable, likeable characters that make the town feel like home. The sense of community is one of the book’s highlights—you can practically feel the sea breeze, hear the bustle of the quay, and imagine yourself dropping into the local café for gossip and comfort.

The romance between Anya and Rick unfolds naturally, rooted in friendship and history, with believable tension as Anya balances vulnerability with resilience. Bennett’s dialogue sparkles, her pacing is gentle but steady, and her themes of trust, healing, and belonging resonate long after the final page.

As the first book in a new series, Just the Beginning does exactly what it should: it introduces a setting and cast you’ll want to revisit, while delivering a complete, satisfying story in its own right. If you love small-town romance filled with heart, hope, and a dash of seaside charm, this one’s for you.

Everyone in Halfmoon Quay, the picture-perfect village clinging to the edge of the Cornish coast, knows Rick Penrose is the person to turn to for help.

Friendly and reliable, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous, he’ll do anything for anyone. When his teenage crush Anya moves back to the quay for a fresh start, he has the perfect solution. She needs a job and his great uncle needs help to run his hotel. It’s a win-win.

Following the death of her husband, Anya Stokes discovered everything about her life was a lie. Without her beautiful home and the luxuries she took for granted, Anya and her daughter, Freya, have no choice but to move in with her aunt and uncle in Halfmoon Quay.

As she begins to turn her life around, Anya realises the perfect man might have been right under her nose all the time. My Opinion

Sarah Bennett has written a lovely story, it was such a treat to be able to read it. Following the death of her husband Anya is having to make a new start with her daughter Freya. Just the Beginning was an uplifting read. A beautiful story with a beautiful setting.

Just the Beginning by Sarah Bennett is a heartwarming and delightful romance that captures the charm of small-town life and the beauty of second chances. Set in the picturesque seaside Halfmoon Quay, this is the first in a new series by the author and is the story of Anya, who, after a series of setbacks, returns to her childhood home to rebuild her life and her heart.
Bennett’s writing is warm and engaging, effortlessly pulling readers into the community and its vibrant characters. Anya is a relatable protagonist, dealing with life’s challenges with a mix of vulnerability and strength, making her journey feel authentic.
Being back in her childhood community means she’s surrounded with familiar friends and old faces, her connection with Rick is instant and it’s clear their chemistry will only lead to one thing. The romance is well-paced, full of sweet moments and undeniable chemistry but entirely believable and I was rooting for the pair of them from the start. The supporting cast of quirky, loveable townspeople adds so much to the book and I cannot wait to hear more about them as this series continues.
What I particularly enjoyed about Just the Beginning was its focus on family, friendships, and personal growth, alongside the romance. While the plot may be slightly predictable and follows a familiar but well-loved trope, Bennett’s skilful storytelling and emotional depth make it more than just a formulaic romance. The book delivers feel-good moments, along with some poignant reflections on loss, healing, and the importance of taking chances. I know picking up a book by Sarah Bennett will leave me feeling happy and full of heart.
Just the Beginning is a delightful, feel-good read that’s perfect for anyone looking for a comforting escape. Sarah Bennett once again proves she knows how to craft a sweet romance with heart, leaving readers smiling by the end. If you're a fan of small-town love stories with a strong sense of community, this book is definitely worth your time.

“Just the Beginning” is the first in a new series by Sarah Bennett. I was drawn right in very early on, by the strong sense of community and belonging that the story evokes. “Just the Beginning” is Anya’s story. We meet her in the aftermath of the death of her husband as she tries to move forward, full of grief and regret, from all the lies and debts he left her with. Anya has a loving family to whom she doesn’t want to feel beholden to but has her four year old daughter to think of and needs a fresh start away from her old home. So she moves away to live with her Cousin, Aunt and Uncle. It takes her right back to her childhood holidays where she and her cousins had great times, in the beautiful seaside setting Halfmoon Quay.

I was rooting for Anya to find peace and belonging and ultimately to learn that people can be trusted and that not everyone will take advantage of her or lie to her. Cue Rick, a childhood friend who has always held a huge space in his heart just for Anya. What follows is a cute romance between two lovably, naive characters complete with amusing innuendos, the expected bumps in the road and a grumpy old man to make waves in between times.

As Anya’s story came to a close it was clear it was indeed just the beginning. Not only do I want to know if she gets her happily ever after, each member of the Penrose family and their close friends seem to have their own story to tell. I really want to be there to hear them. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

I’ve read quite a few books by the author and tend to enjoy the first enough to devour the series as and when they come out.

Given my background with the author’s books, I must admit to being less than impressed with this ‘beginning’. It’s not a bad book by any measure, and I’ll detail why in a bit, it’s just that I have much higher expectations for the emotional connections that I get from her books.

This story is set in a small town near the water. The town is not doing as well as some of its neighbours in the off season, but that again is a secondary and probably long arcing part of the narrative. Anya chose to come to this town of her childhood holidays to kick her wounds and figure out a new future for her daughter. It didn’t include a new relationship, but some things just happen.

The supporting cast are all well done, as are the familial interactions. They are not over the top emotional, while managing to make them believably close. Rick gets told quite often how being too- good is not necessarily a good thing. I appreciated the male protagonist having flaws that make him more human.

I liked the romance in the centre, but I hold higher hopes for the following books ( if there are any) .

I received an ARC thanks to Netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience of this and other books by the same author.

In this charming beachside romance novel, readers visit Halfmoon Quay on the Cornish coast where Rick Penrose and Anya Stokes reunite after a long time. Anya, having recently lost her husband, has brought her daughter Freya back to her hometown, and Rick’s great-uncle needs help at his hotel, so everything seems to be working out. However, Rick doesn't know where the line between helping and taking over is, and this, coupled with his secrets, might keep him and Anya from their happy ending. With a great emotional storyline, two complicated characters, and a beautiful setting, this dual-POV romance novel is a fantastic new release from Sarah Bennett, and fans of similar titles will love this book. The characters are the stars of the novel, and their flaws and backstories really add tension and depth to their relationship (both platonic and romantic) in ways which readers will appreciate. The emphasis on community and friendship is particularly heartwarming, and readers will enjoy the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere of Halfmoon Quay that Bennett has brought to life. Entertaining, charming, and an easy and relaxing read, this is a great new book that fans of Bennett’s other books will enjoy for its atmosphere, characters, and emotional storyline.

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the advance copy.

I love Sarah’s writing and yet again she’s written another lovely story.

I really connected to Anya in the way that she’s trying to find out who she is beyond the titles of Mum and Wife (now widow) and that is a battle I’m having as well.

Initially it was a little struggle to understand who was related to who, but the family tree Sarah sent in her newsletter and the list of characters at the beginning helped as I delved in quick, and for a brief moment thought the two love interests were cousins! (They’re not)

Having read Sarah’s works before I know this will be part of a series, though I’m unsure if the female main characters or male will be the leads in the other books as yet as I didn’t get a sense of what direction Sarah will take.

I do wish it could have gone on a little more. I wanted another 2-3 chapters of the girls business start up and as a romance genre lover, I did want the two love interests to end up together and sadly that wasn’t the case (in this book anyway) so I felt a bit sad.

Hopefully they will appear in future stories and get their happy ending but I was proud of Anya for her character development and wanting to stand on her own two feet (I’m just a sucker for a romantic happy ending) 💕

Just like all her books, Just the Beginning didn’t disappoint.

This is the first book in Sarah Bennett's Halfmoon Quay series, set in the picturesque village of Halfmoon Quay on the Cornish coast. The book follows Anya, as she returns to Halfmoon Quay for a fresh start after her husband's death reveals painful secrets. With the help of Rick Penrose, her childhood friend, she begins to rebuild her life while navigating love, trust, and second chances.

Bennett masterfully crafts well-developed characters, making them feel incredibly real. Their interactions are natural, and even the side characters bring warmth and charm to the story, making Halfmoon Quay a place that truly comes to life.

Another thing I love most is the warm, inviting vibe of the close-knit community. The way the residents of Halfmoon Quay support and uplift each other adds so much depth to the story. Their friendships, small-town charm, and sense of belonging make the setting feel like a place you’d want to visit.

I highly recommend Just the Beginning to anyone who loves heartwarming small-town romances.

After the death of her husband, Anya discovers he wasn't the man she thought he was. Left with nothing, and with nowhere else to turn, she gathers her four year old daughter and returns to Halfmoon Quay and the arms of family. Caught between anger, grief and feelings of failure, Anya struggles to build a new life for herself and her daughter.

This is a story of friendship, of family, of healing and the pain and frustration of starting over again. Anya is reluctant to rely on her family. She feels the need to stand on her own. But the love of family is strong, and they are determined to wrap Anya in their warmth..

And there's Rick Penrose, the person everyone in Halfmoon Quay turns to with their problems. He's determined to find a way to help her move forward. Which means hiding the crush he's had on her since they were teens. And overcoming Anya's reluctance and sometimes downright refusal to accept help.

Full of love and warmth, this is a sweet, tender story of overcoming adversity, building a new life and finding the way back to happiness.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for a copy of this book. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you're in the mood for a feel-good romance read set in a charming village with lovable characters, Just the Beginning by Sarah Bennett should be next on your TBR. In this contemporary romance book, Bennett weaves an uplifting love story that’s perfect for fans of small-town romance and emotional yet comforting fiction. This Just the Beginning book review will explore what makes the novel so special and whether it deserves a spot on your shelf in 2025.

📚 Restarting life with a young daughter can be tough but the importance of having a good life is showcased beautifully.
📚 Story flows with an ease that describes all the events in perfect sequence without detoring from the main plot.
📚 The feeling of "letting go" is talked about in detail in this uplifting love story, along with how and why to do it.
📚 The twist at the end is simple but very useful as there are people who are struggling with that issue. This is a feel good romance read for sure.

A person who is into contemporary romance books should give this a try. The book talks about some in-depth emotional issues which makes this high on romance book recommendation for 2025.

This turned out to be a brilliant start to a new series, with lots of characters all waiting in the wings to tell their own stories. This opening story centres on Anya and her childhood friend Rick. Anya has had a tricky year and discovered that the life she believed was a perfect one with her husband turned out to be far from it. Feeling let down and betrayed, she has returned to Halfmoon Quay where she has a supportive and loving extended family who are all determined to help her get back to a stable life.
Rick is from the Penrose family who have lived in Halfmoon Quay for years. He is the middle of four brothers and has tried all his life to help others and to fix things. He finds himself in an impossible situation and struggles on to try to sort it out. Central to the community, Rick offers all the stability and kindness which Anya is looking for. or so she thinks.
I loved this story and its idyllic coastal setting. It conjures up seaside holidays and beach escapes resulting in a warm hug of a read.
In short: an escapist read full of heart
Thanks to the publisher

Anya is going through a really tough time. Drew, her husband, has passed and left behind so much debt and his shady business all came to light. Since his death is being ruled as a suicide, the isurance company will not shed a penny. The bank has also informed her that they will be repossessing the house. She is broke and has no where to go. She has refused her recently married mother's help and therefore she and her daughter Freya must relocate to Halfmoon Quay. There, the Penrose family will help her get off her feet and help her with her daughter Freya. Rick Penrose has been in love with Anya since they were teenagers and used to vacation together. Anya's return is stirring up a lot of old feelings and he is going to finally fight for Anya's love. However, a huge lie may throw Rick's plans off course when Anya finds out.

Sweet and delightful, Just The Beginning, is
a beautiful story about love, patience, trusting and learning to love again.

Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this sweet and lovable story.

Just The Beginning by Sarah Bennett is a new series that a lot of us have been waiting for with bated breath!! We start with the first book and take the atmosphere in, as she slides in each character. If you’ve been with Sarah since her first books, you know that this story will be the start of many stories to come from Half Moon Quay, they will all interlink, so I cannot wait to see what comes next!!
Anya, after a traumatic time of finding out after her husband’s death that he was a con man, who left her and their daughter deep in the lurch, has come back to Half Moon Quay. Her Aunt and Uncle have opened their hearts and home to the pair, so they can feel loved and supported as Anya gets back on her feet.
Rick, who’s always had a crush on Anya is delighted she’s come to stay in the village, and is right there ready to help her all he can!!
So with Anya’s crushed heart, and Rick’s full and rapidly beating one, what could possibly happen!!! LOTS!!!!
Many thanks to Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read this arc copy via Netgalley. My opinion is my own.

Sarah Bennett’s Halfmoon Quay series kicks off with a heartfelt and beautifully crafted story set in a charming Cornish village. The book follows Anya as she returns to Halfmoon Quay, seeking a fresh start after her husband's death uncovers painful secrets. With the support of her childhood friend, Rick Penrose, she begins to rebuild her life while navigating love, trust, and second chances.

Bennett’s storytelling shines through her well-developed, relatable characters and their natural interactions. Even the side characters add warmth and charm, making the village feel alive. The strong sense of community is one of the book’s highlights—Halfmoon Quay is the kind of place you’d love to visit, filled with friendships, small-town charm, and heartfelt connections. This cozy, uplifting read is perfect for anyone who loves stories about fresh starts and found family.

A special thank you to Boldwood Books for the digital ARC I received in exchange for my honest opinion. This is the first book in a new series by Sarah Bennett, and the first book I have read by the author and I loved it! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

This is a wonderful start to a new series set in the picture -perfect village of Halfmoon Quay on the Cornish Coast. This is a heartwarming story of second-chances, love and family relationships.

Anya, along with her daughter, Freya, returns to Halfmoon Quay to start over after the death of her husband and the discovery that everything about her life was a lie. Anya and Freya move in with her aunt and uncle and Anya slowly begins to turn her life around and with the help of gorgeous Rick Penrose, her childhood crush, she realizes the perfect man might have been right under her nose all the time. Rick is known in the village for helping anyone in need. But is Rick helping Anya or taking over?

The characters are so likable and I adored the Penrose family and the close-knit community of Halfmoon Quay. The perfect escapist read and I adored it!

The map and list of characters at the beginning of the book was an added bonus!
