ROMANCE WITH A HERMIT
Darcy went to Mrs. Seymour's bridal agency to escape the plans of her half-brother to take control of her inheritance. It didn't seem like much to some people, but Darcy was the bookish type and loved nature. The land that she and her brother inherited together was in the woods with a cabin, albeit a nice one, but her brother only saw dollar signs, not the beauty of the surroundings as Darcy did. The only way she could take control of her half of the inheritance is to marry. She spent too much time outtide with a book, and there was no one their circle to whom she would consider marrying.
Gideon is in Sweetwater Springs, Montana, and friends with Jonah. Lina and Trudy, once they meet Gideon, believe he's the perfect match for Darcy. He leads a secluded life, though, and they're not sure how Darcy will handle that, but Gideon loves books, philosophy and nature, and her friends think they would be perfect together.
Gideon is painfully shy and never manages to send off the letter he wrote, not to Mrs. Seymour and the agency, but directly to Darcy herself, but things come to a head with her brother and she needs to run and she needs to run now, so she shows up on Jonah and Lina's doorstep.
Darcy and Gideon lead a charmed existence, but for how long can that last? Has she brought trouble not only to her husband but possibly to many more members of the community, who have become her friends? And what of Gideon? Will he always be a hermit? Darcy never really craved the social attention like most of the women back home, but could she be content seeing no one for days or maybe even weeks on end except Gideon?
This story kind of ambled along, after the beginning and Darcy flees to Montana, but the suspense picks up near the end, and you keep reading, holding your breath, putting the pieces together as you go and just wondering how it'll all play out. This was pretty good.
