WaterFyre Rising #6

The Protégé

Rate this book
No matter what goes wrong in the world, you make me feel safe—my perfect lock.

Compelling and brilliant, Orion Reimann is an avid collector—or rather, a thief—of fine things. Though a quadrillionaire with limitless power, he cannot heal the scars of his past until a beautiful woman bursts into his life like a supernova, chasing away the darkness and stealing his heart.

Perceptive and dedicated, Elena Sanchez is a journalist working multiple jobs to pay off a family debt. When she accidentally damages an expensive car, the handsome owner offers her a tempting proposal that eliminates her financial predicament. Before Elena knows it, she’s become Orion’s protégé, and he’s become her mentor, her protector, the sun to her moon and stars—a man worthy of her cautious heart.

As their romance strengthens, danger spirals out of control, forcing Orion to choose between the past or the woman who has come to mean everything to him.

The Protégé is an opposite attract, forced proximity, mentor/mentee, morally gray billionaire hero, and a suspenseful contemporary romance. It is Book Six in the WaterFyre Rising series but can be read as a standalone.

Caution: This book contains sexual content, profanity, violence, kidnapping, and mentions of sex trafficking and suicide. Recommended for 18+.

This was not at all my cup of tea.

What is wrong with this book (for me)?
- Over philosophising everything and putting symbolism in all aspects (this coming from a girl who adores symbolism)
- The author going out of her way to connect the 2 MCs and everything that ever happened to them in their lives
- The red flags with no character development.
- The MCs kept mentioning money and their differences and it became annoying how centred around that they were.
- The damsel in distress aspect where he had all the solutions even though she was portrayed as smart and witty and made the "feminist" comments.
- The author quoting herself in her book. The quote is not even by her! (Impossible. I’m possible. Everything is perspective. -Nadia Han)
- The FMC making the MMC "hypothetically" choose between her and his dead fiancée? Really?

I have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I seriously can’t get enough of this series! I have to say this one is truly my favorite! There were so many twists and turns. I’m was at the edge of my seat and loved how it truly kept me guessing on what’s going to happen next! So many connections between Orion and Elena. I just love how it all came together!

I love how perfect Orion and Elena are for one another! Just love the devotion and love that they share. The true love and acceptance and true understanding of who they truly are. They make an amazing team.

There were so many moments where I teared up, my grinned mad at my kindle and laughed out loud. My favorite books truly make me feel connected to the world when I feel so many emotions.

I am completely and utterly blown away by the magical masterpiece that Nadia has created within the WaterFyre Rising Series.

Just when I think she cannot outdo the last book she writes, she comes in ‘fires a blazing’ and shocks the socks right off my feet!

This book is one of the absolute best I’ve read all year.

Nadia encompasses so many small details that make this story go from incredible to down right perfection! You will not only fall for the character and the storyline, but you will also have a great learning experience as you jump in the journey with the main characters.

And talk about holy plot twist city! Nadia stumped me a few times and caught me off guard….. I love how she is able to surprise me and keep me on the edge of my seat completely enveloped in the story.

The Protege is has stolen my heart like a professional thief and I cannot express how much I recommend this book to you all!!!

This is a fantastic Angsty romantic suspense!!!! Thank you Nadia for the arc in return for my review.

WaterFyre Rising is one of my favourite series. Yes, you are correct when you say it say it all the time, but it is true, this is my favourite story in the series. That is because Nadia’s writing gets better with each one. I suggest starting at the beginning of the series, so you get all that yummy goodness and get to know the characters.
Nadia is a very emotive writer, so you get to feel along with the characters. As well as wanting to kick ar$e at some of the more insidious characters. I enjoy a push pull relationship that comes from this pair. The Protégé is Orion and Elena story. They say opposites attract and that is the case for Orion and Elena, but they were made for each other. He is still reeling from a painful past, but one whirlwind of a woman may just make things better. As a journalist Elena is always seeking the truth and justice as she sees it which leads her to the Protégé. What they didn’t know was that their lives have been interwoven for a long time. It seems fate must have plans. Together they embark on a trail of justice.
With lots of action, suspense, tantalising proposals, Alpha males, and strong, smart, fun women and witty banter, Nadia makes it hard to put down. So, if you are like me prepare for losing sleep.
The Protégé is another cleverly woven complex tale that should not be missed.
I look forward to what Nadia gives us next.

Omg where do I start i was so lucky to be able to read this as an ARC book and it did not disappoint, the journey that the 2 main characters go on is incredible, the twists and turns of the story line is just amazing with out going in to too much details trust in the process of the book and you won't be disappointed I've never read a book so quickly. This is a must read for any romance reader it also come with some spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶 i have not read many spice books but in the few i have this to me is a 4 it has some explicit parts but only in parts of the book not through it all. I hope if you choose to read this book you enjoy it as much as I have the last few chapters had me in tears and I went through a whole group of emotions throughout the read. 💜

Another great addition to the series. I couldn’t put this book down. I love the way that Nadia writes her Fmcs. Elena is smart funny beautiful and a great addition to the group. Orion is exactly the type of billionaire I love and their relationship is one I’ll remember. This book is a standalone, but I’ve loved the whole series and recommend them all. Can’t wait for the next book.

“No matter what goes wrong in the world, you make me feel safe—my perfect lock.”

“When you’re with me, I hear the stars speak in a love language no one can understand but us.”

The Protégé, book six of WaterFyre Rising series by Nadia Han is easily one of my favorite reads of the year! From beginning to end I was sucked into this mystery to unravel and at the heart of it was a thief with a heart of gold and his sunshine and I fell for both of them. The MC’s, Orion and Elena were so relatable and likable, each with their own unique set of flaws that just made them perfect for the other and had me rooting for them the whole time.

The writing was flawless, it kept me interested and intrigued with all the plot twists! I love all the knowledge I gained about dandelions and the stars, it was such a sweet bond they had over the subjects. I recommend this romantic suspense novel featuring a morally gray billionaire and his protégé with some spice and a HEA!

Trigger Warnings: mentions of sex trafficking, rape, suicide, murder, kidnapping, anxiety and depression

Nadia Han’s “The Protégé” is Orion and Elena’s love story, and I found myself unable to put it down.

Their love for each other was so genuinely well developed that I felt like I could actually see it happening in front of me.

Orion was so mysterious, and I wanted to know more about him. He was broken, but his love for Elena helped him heal, and I loved that aspect of their relationship.

And Elena! I thought she was this amazingly intelligent woman who had a lot of sass to dole out, which was really fun to read about. I also loved how devoted she was to her mom.

I would highly recommend Nadia Han’s books to anyone who likes romantic suspense novels that focus on diverse characters. If you love high angst and shocking plot twists, “The Protégé” is the perfect book for you!

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review.

This series has just grown better and better with each book.

These characters have such depth to them that it’s not easy to see what is coming next.

I love how the men have girlfriends that are friends too and all are keen to help and support each other, that’s true friendship.

These are not slushy or overtly sexual romance stories with a happy ever after, although it might all end happily. I suggest that you read it and see for yourself what a really good read this and the whole series is. I highly recommend it.

This was a beautiful story. Orion and Elena could not be more opposite, but they fit. Elena is one of the most understanding, compassionate, and heartfelt character. Orion may have been the master thief in name but the way Elena stole his heart makes her the greatest thief there is. The storyline has multiple layers that connect beautifully and no question is unanswered at the end. This is the first book I have read in this series but has me wanting to start at book 1 to learn all the stories of the men that make up WaterFyre.

This book was an opposites attract, moral grey alpha, billionaire hero, and suspense story. I really enjoyed the book that Nadia wrote. The characters came from different worlds and yet had so much in common. There was a great amount of love and suspense with their stories. The comic lounge scene was, omg good. I loved that they shared there own past and then it brought them together. Highly recommended !!

The Protege is book 6 in the WaterFyre Rising series and wow....I love every book in this series and this is definitely one of my favorites. I definitely recommend reading this series in order as each book intertwines the characters and the storyline continues to build. Orion and Elena's story....wow...the deep connection they have, the dark secrets they book keep within....I really loved their story. The roller coaster of emotions with twists and turns that I did not see coming.

Orion Reimann is a true businessman, has a love for the finer things in life but struggles internally as he carries a heavy burdens from his past. Elena Sanchez is a strong, independent woman that works hard to make it while also trying to pay off a debt to her uncle that is owed and never ending. When a chance encounter that Orion and Elena meet....what can happen when two different people coming from two different worlds have such a deep connection when they get to know each other. Secrets are revealed, pasts traumas come back to haunt both Orion and Elena...so much is happening as there is danger around every corner. There is more connection to Orion and Elena that left me speechless....I do not want to give any spoilers away....definitely read this series and find out what happens.

I cannot wait until the next book in the series!!!

Could I have rage finished it? Yes, but I won’t. This reads like a middle schooler’s journal of made up stories.

The FMC takes space from the MMC because after she is assaulted, he is more upset about information he learns about his ex than her welfare. To make her feel better, the MMC tells her all the people that hurt his ex are dead…how does that help?

I want to preface this by saying that Tik Tok made me want to read this book because of the angst and I originally had no idea that it was part of a series which means that I haven't read the five previous books so this may have tainted by vision of the story.

My issue with this book isn't the fact that the author not only quoted herself, but did shameless promotion for her non-fiction books (in this economy? she's a girlboss) or even that the book was filled with so many clichés that I saw every single plot twist coming a mile away (I may be reading too many romance novels which does make it easier). No, my issue is that this felt more like a first novel than the sixth installment in a series.

The cringe was so hard at some points (see the girlbossing promoting followed by so cringe "you wouldn't like her books, she's a romance action writer and men don't like this kind of books") I felt like I was reading a book written by a teenager. How am I supposed to believe that those are grown adults having actual grown adults conversations if they are written like a bad fanfiction? Their instant love? Felt more like crushes than the world-burning love it was described as. The spice between them was cringe, and did nothing for me. Heck, this book should have been called serendipity by how hard the story seemed to want to connect their past. No other character past the two main one was actually developped. I mean, her supposed BFF was a charicature of a gay man who literally moved away to Italy after a few interactions only to never be seen again.

For a self proclaimed romance-action writer, the action was also really missing from this book. Even mafia novels will have some actions and often chapters dedicated to the men taking down their enemies. Everything here happened off page or almost everything. Even the climax was such a let down. Also, for a novel about a master thief, I lowkey actually expected thieving and yet the dude seemed like the world most boring thief. It didn't help that the whole Robin Hood thing was shoved down our throat every time thieving was mentionned.

This book was also way too into conspiracies and everything seemed like a way to complain about the rich agenda and how they control the world along with the media. There was literally mention of mind control by something our MMC stole from a rich man which would be dangerous in the wrong hands. I get that the villains are this shady organisation that span the world and has hands in every pie, but the constant reminder that rich people are evil (except our MMC cause he secretly donates billions and is a modern Robin Hood so that makes everything he does ethical nvm that ethical billionaires do not exist, and that his family literally owns banks which are technically shady organisations as well), that the media is evil and shoving misinformation down our throat (except our FMC who's a hero for reporting the truth even if it means she loses her job, and the only journalist that truly believes in the truth) were way too much. It felt like I was reading a MAGA conspirationist ranting at some moments.

And then there was Kate. Kate who we are lead to believe is the love of his life, the one person the MMC couldn't save and the person he cannot move on from. That is until his second meeting with the female lead or so. It's not the fact that he moved on that bugged me because I've read enough widower romance that I'm all for falling in love again, but it's the fact that she was put forward as this big obstacle to their romance and then forgotten about so fast. The FMC literally asks him at one point who he would have chosen between the two of them (which is cringe and not romantic at all cause girl don't be so desperate), and he just throw Kate away instead of just explaining to her that not only is that question unfair, but Kate will always be a part of his story. Kate honestly only served the purpose to add some drama, and to fuel his angst at first. Poor girl, like every other character that isn't the main couple, was never developped, and became a plot device for his male pain.

So yeah, maybe if I had read the other five books, I might feel differently, but I'm going to go on a limb and say that this book just wasn't for me. Nothing truly did it for me, the writing was immature, and the characters were mostly cut outs made to act as puppets aroung the main couple. The only redeeming quality is that it went fast so I could force myself to finish it (cause mama didn't raise no quitter (which is a lie, I'm a quitter)). I doubt reading the previous books would have made me appreciate this one more, I feel like I would just have never reach this point in the series which is a shame because I do love myself some morally gray MMC.

This is the 6th book in WaterFyre Series and it revolves around Orion and Elena.

Orion is the only son of his quadrillionaire parents. Since childhood, Orion suffered from severe anxiety and would often get panic and anxiety attacks. His mother was able to clam him down but after her untimely death, things became worse for him. The only thing that helped him with his mental struggles was being able to step into his alter ego, The Roc. As The Roc, Orion would steal important things from bad people and try to keep balance of power. He is a member of the vigilante group who are fighting against dangerous crime organization, The Trogyn. When Orion finds out that his mentor, The Condor was murdered, he makes it his mission to find out who was behind the hit and why. He hires Elena, the local news journalist to help him as her being local means she knows where to look for answers and knows people who might be able to help.

Elena is a hardworking journalist who believes in reporting the truth no matter the cost. She doesn’t scare easy and doesn’t back away from a challenge. This work ethic of her’s is what lead to Orion offering her the job. Elena is in a bad financial situation due to her late father so when Orion offers her the job, it was blessing in disguise.

Elena and Orion are attracted to one another but try their best to be professionals. Being around Elena helps Orion with his anxiety and Orion being a very protective and possessive man, does everything in his power to protect Elena from bad situations and people. They both feel this powerful connection between them leading them to open up and tell each other intimate and personal details about themselves. Orion tells to Elena about his mental struggles, his alter ego, The Roc and about his role in the vigilante group he is part of. Elena tells him about her father’s debt and her dream of starting her own online news outlet.

They work in tandem and are able to uncover lot of secrets shedding light on deaths of their loved ones, the reason behind their deaths, who was behind it all and also about the connection between them two. Road to uncover the truth wasn’t easy for either of them and they were subjected to threats, betrayal and more to keep they apart from each other and truth. But they overcame all of those hurdles, found answers they were looking for and were able to build a beautiful life together.

Nadia has done amazing job with the plot and plot twists. This book kept me guessing about what will happen next and the plot twists didn’t disappoint. The one thing I didn’t like about this book was Sci-Fi stuff that was added. It didn’t add anything meaningful to the story and was boring to read. Except that part, rest of the story was fun, entertaining and full of suspense. If you like read romance books tones of suspense and plot twists, this is the book for you.

Thank you to Nadia Han for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

With this next book in the WaterFyre Series, we meet Orion, a quadrillionaire non ill-intentioned thief and Elena Sanchez, a journalist who seeks the truth regardless of the cost.

This book reminded me a little bit of the story of Robin Hood, which is one of my favorite movies of all time (thinking of the Disney version). It's Robin Hood meets Truth Finder.

You have Orion, who steals, but not for the typical reasons one would think of, and Elena who will at any cost, seek to share the truth to the public. They both sound like similar people, but they aren't necessarily the same in some ways.

Coming from two different worlds, these two meet in the unlikeliest of ways, but form a connection beyond what people might consider "typical." They connect in a more spiritual, astronomical, intellectual way. It was really fun trying to solve the riddles thrown into the book since I am really bad at solving them, but always attempting to be punny.

Each character actually reminded me in ways of myself, which doesn't typically happen. I always find myself drawn towards one more than the other, but I found myself making similarities between the both of them, and me in my daily life.

Both characters meet and help each other battle the demons that they each have. They overcome their circumstances with help from one another.

I find myself adding Orion to my list of Waterfyre book boyfriends.

He's a character full of angst, sex appeal, with a hint of danger, but he is willing to do anything to make the love of his life happy, which (fan girl squeal inserted here) makes me love him so much.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, you have Elena who is full of sass, fire, and curiosity that leads to danger.

I gave this story a 4.5 rating overall only because there was a few parts where I got annoyed with Elena and was frustrated with her, otherwise, the overall storyline was amazing, I really liked the connections and the flow, and these two characters were really well suited for one another.

Cannot wait for the next in the series!

Before Elena knows it, she’s become Orion’s protégé, and he’s become her mentor, her protector, the sun to her moon and stars—a man worthy of her cautious heart.

✨️Review
An enjoyable drama with some mystery, romance and secret identity shenanigans. Orion finding calmness in his hectic life by way of free spirited Elena was a lovely and easy journey. They fell pretty quickly for one another but the way they broke down some of the other's walls was sweet.

Orion being secretly a thieving Batman by night was what I found the most fun (in fact I wish we saw more of his talents in action, along with his skills). His skills with a slingshot were 🤌

Elena's energy was always so positive despite the threat of owed debts bearing down on her. She was a very accepting person as well, which is what Orion needed in his life. He has severe anxiety but we didn't really see much of that other than one small episode.

The latter part where the murd3r mystery kicks in and we get some fun "all the pieces are coming together " moments added some good momentum. But it's Orion that had all my focus...this Bruce Wayne by day and stealthy uber robber by night is what I loved to see.
