Unholy Alliance #4

Beloved Enemy

Rate this book
She's the unlikeliest vampire hunter ever. A scientist.

Seventeen-year-old science prodigy Genevieve Quinn never thought she would be kidnapped from her college campus by a vampire. Or that said vampire would want her help on a science project. Genevieve has no intention of complying, but when an escape attempt turns deadly, it is a vampire that comes to her rescue.

Vampire Chad Matthews is an atypical specimen. He’s good-looking, in a dangerous kind of way. But that’s not what attracts Genevieve… it’s the shadows behind his eyes. As Genevieve and Chad team up to find a way to defeat a monster even worse than killer vampires, she discovers that not everything can be explained by science—like falling in love.

This novella (30k words) is book four in the Unholy Alliance series.

KARMA IS A BIATCH.

*Complementary ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. *

Genevieve is your average college student. Except for the fact that she is a seventeen-year-old science prodigy almost ready to graduate at MIT. Things get even more complicated when a vampire kidnaps her because she is needed to help the vampire with a project. Genevieve tries to escape numerous times, but on her last attempt she meets Chad.
When Genevieve first sees Chad she is instantly drawn to him. He has caramel-colored eyes, a beautiful face, and a body to match. He seems perfect, until she learns that Chad is a vampire. To make things more uncomfortable, Chad and Genevieve have to team up to try and find a way to kill monsters that are worse than any other super natural creature. Being attracted to a creature that craves her blood does not seem logical. The chemistry that exists between them is not a science that Genevieve is familiar with. However, as Genevieve spends more time with Chad, will she be able to ignore the fact that she is falling in love with him? Will Chad be able to open up and allow himself to fall in love?

"I've tried to stay away. And it's done exactly zip to erase my feelings. I don't know what to do. I've never felt this way about anyone. I didn't intend to let it happen with Genevieve, but here we are."

This book is the fourth book in the Unholy Alliances series. The book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading the previous books before reading this book. I read this book as a standalone, and I was a little confused in the beginning of the book. There are a lot of characters, and it is hard to get into the story at first. Once I got the characters straight in my head I was able to get into the book. All of the characters were likable. Sometimes Genevieve had moments where she seemed too timid, but overall I really enjoyed her character. She was smart and kind, which I think is a great combination.

Genevieve and Chad falling in love with each other happened a little too quickly in my opinion. I was not instant love, but it still felt rushed and sometimes awkward. One moment they were strangers, and then they are suddenly declaring their love for each other. However, being the romance-obsessed girl I am, I was still rooting for them to get together. Their relationship was not the most developed or romantic, but it was still cute.

"I'm already in love with her. There I was, thinking about murdering the human boy, and the realization felt like I'd had both legs knocked out from under me. I went into a free fall. It was all I could do to gather her up and hold her last night, then tuck her into bed. I can't believe I've let this happen."

The plot of the book was interesting, and definitely kept my interest the entire time. Since it was such a short book, I felt like some questions were not completely answered. I am hoping they will be answered in the next book. Overall, I did enjoy this book. I would recommend this book for anyone that is looking for a quick and fun YA paranormal romance.

I first want to thank the author for this free copy (ARC)!

I had 4 weeks to read this book, for the group "We <3 YA books", but I just couldn't wait to start reading it! So... here is my review!

What can I say? Just awesome! I loved this book! It took me a little while to get well focused on the story in the beginning, but then... well, I just couldn't stop reading! I couldn't put the book down even during dinner.
I liked the characters a lot, even though I found Genevieve a little too weak for my likes. I mean, she was strong in some ways, like when she tried to escape more than once, or when she had her head set on finding a solution to their problem. But other times she showed her weaknesses too. Especially against bullies like Josh.
I liked Chad, although not from the beginning. But some times he made me roll my eyes at his stupidity and way of thinking. Seriously, dude? Do you think she's worried about the fact you can't keep her safe because of your leg? She's head over heels in love with you! You idiot! Go and sweep her off her feet and kiss her like there's no tomorrow!
Yeah, I know, I need to calm down a bit. But I go crazy when I see a couple falling in love. And Chad and Genevieve were so cute! I wanted to see more of them together though! And I'd have liked to read more of the story too. It was so intriguing but way too short!
Now I'm curious to read the first books of the series and get to know the other characters better. Lucky me, the author was so kind as to send me free copies of those too! Yay!

Book Review- Beloved Enemy by Lacy Yager

Ever since Genevieve was taken off the MIT campus by Maggie and Lily and brought to the compound, she has kept to herself planning some kind of escape. She refuses to stay with these crazy people. Josh seems comfortable here so she is on her own.
She tries sneaking out the garage but runs into a group in a standoff that includes vampires. She comes face to face with Chad, a vampire who was sent to fight with them. Genevieve screams in fear and strengthens her determination to escape. Her next attempt leads her back to the garage and into the back of one of the SUVs. When part of the group leaves in search of the CAT, the hybrid vampires, Genevieve is hidden away. She makes it out of the compound but realizes she is leaving Boston too. She has to wait and bide her time until they stop and she can sneak away.
However, she is found and paired with Chad. She is then forced to accompany the group in their search. Chad is not thrilled about being stuck with the human. In fact he lets his anger get the best of him as he walks away from the group. Genevieve lets her fear get the best of her and it causes the mission to get extremely dangerous very quickly. The group barely makes it out alive.
Chad protects Genevieve and feels guilty for letting everyone down. In order to make up for his mistake, he becomes the one to donate blood to help Genevieve when she decides to stay and help. Her job is to find something that will help destroy the CAT when no weapon they possess will.
Chad partners up with her and continues to protect her even though he tries to deny his feelings. He will never be good for her. He isn’t whole.
Genevieve is driven to find the one thing that will stop the CATs and her own mission which is the cure for cancer. She can’t afford to be distracted. Too many are counting on her.
I have read a number of books from this series and I really like it. In fact I request them when I find them up for review. I have invested in the characters and enjoy the storyline. The author proves in her books that people can change and enemies can become friends. The fact that the good guys are becoming more of a group of humans, vampires, warlocks, and chasers banding and fighting together is proof.
The book is action packed containing betrayal and even intrigue. Fight scenes are peppered throughout the story and balanced with Genevieve’s research. I give it a 4 out of 5 and impatiently wait for the next one to come out.

My third encounter with the Unholy Alliance series, this is a wonderful addition to the clever interweaving stories of survival and love that this author has penned. I would suggest readers start at the beginning of the series: they are quick and engaging reads and you will find several characters are wandering through each story.

The book starts a bit slowly, we are reintroduced to several characters and discover a new cast member in Genevieve. A much younger than her peers student at MIT, she is determined to make her way at school, and doesn’t allow her lack of a social life to bother her: much.

In the last story, we had just met Genevieve as she was being tossed into the back of an SUV by our curious mix of vampires and those people who love them. Not convinced that she is in the safest place she can be, and completely thrown by the existence of vampires, Genevieve uses her not inconsiderable intelligence to formulate a plan to escape, and is foiled each time, the last by Chad: he of the caramel eyes and pointy incisors.

The entire story and series is a mélange of loves lost and found, Hunters and Vampires in collusion to destroy an enemy even greater than themselves, and the repeated displays of friendship and growth that each character, human and vampire, experiences throughout the story. Action packed, with several insets of internal dialogue as the characters deal with their own issues that prevent their getting closer, each character has a unique voice and feel, with a sense of their own issues and history that informs their current actions.

A quick read at just 147 pages, the novellas in this series are a curious mix of character driven stories and action filled moments that are fraught with danger. The mixing of hunters, vampires and humans is a clever one: each character in the series has a purpose and a skill that expands the group’s ability to succeed in their quest to protect those they love, and by extension the world. This is a story that will let you escape into another world, where the familiar is just tweaked enough to be new, and the freshness of the interactions and powers of this oddly teamed cast of characters is engaging and unlike any of the ‘vampire/human teen/YA fiction stories that have come before.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

his book follows two different characters again, this time we get to meet a 17 year old genius college student, Genevieve and Chad a Vampire.

Genevieve already feels left out in college, she is the youngest there and people make fun of her a lot of the time. But not in a million years she thought she would get kidnapped from her college campus by a vampire and that said vampire would want her help on a science project. At first, she has no intention of helping the vampire and her friends, but when one of her an escape attempts turns deadly, it is a vampire that comes to her rescue. Talk about been surprise.

Chad has been a vampire for many, many years. He is good looking, in a dangerous king of way and he is also the perfect specimen for the science project happening. Together, him and Genevieve team up to find a way to defeat a monster even worse than killer vampires and while doing that they also discover that not everything can be explained by science, like how a nerdy college scientist and a killer vampire end up falling in love.

At first I didn't think I would love, especially after reading the previous one about Rachel and Alex, but I loved it. Genevieve was hard headed and with a hard heart too, and Chad? Wow, he was so not your typical vampire. I was on his side 100% from the beginning, there were a lot of times that I just wanted to slap Genevieve, how could she be so cruel to him? But then, when you stop to think and put yourself in her position, he was the vampire, not the poor girl. So, I understood her and didn't hate her as much, but I still loved a little more. lol.

In this book you will not only get the romance, but you will get to see a little bit of science as they work on finding a way to defeat the dangerous monsters, and lots of action as they get to fight the same monsters they are trying to defeat. And you do get to see a lot of other characters in this book, so of the good oldies and some new ones, which could have been potentials for other books???

4 out of 5 stars for this one, why? Because the end left me wanting more and there isn't any more books available. But I really, really recommend all the 4 books that I read from this series. I got the Beloved Enemy from NetGalley as an eARC (Thank You NetGalley for the ebook, took me a while to get to it, but I'm so glad I finally read all of them).

What other vampire books do you recommend? Have you read this series?

Genevieve was kidnapped against her will by a group of crazies who just might be vampires. On one of her many escape attempts, she sees an attractive man injured and she tries to help him, only to find that he too is a vampire. When the two of them are thrown together in a life or death situation, Genevieve realizes that there may be more to this crazy world than she thought.
This is the third book in the series, and they have to be read in order otherwise the story will not make any sense. All the books are pretty quick reads, with roughly 150 pages, making them like an ongoing book just put into sections. Each story is about the romance between two separate characters, alternating between the couples view points, but the plot stays the same in all the books. The general theme of the book is a great war between the good supernaturals and the bad supernaturals, with unlikely romances popping up along the way.
Genevieve was a very interesting character for a protagonist, incredibly socially awkward and very lost in her own head. She did not spend very much time interacting with others, instead by herself or in the lab. The only person she really would open up for is Chad. I have a solution for her 10 year rush, but I am not sure that is an option but I would be ok with her as a vampire.
I loved Chad. Yes he use to be a bad guy, but whatever, I am fine with it. He is so rough around the edges, not a very friendly person, but he will protect the weak and accept responsibility when needed. I really liked his character, especially when he was dancing in the lab with Genevieve. I found him to be incredibly cute and likable, you know for a vicious killing machine. I also liked the fact he was incredible straightforward with her when she asked him personal questions or about his feelings. There was no denial here, more like he became aware of the situation and he stepped up to it. It was refreshing to see such an easy relationship, without the drama and angst usually found in books.
I was a little disappointed to not see any of the past main characters in this installment, like Maggie and Shane, but I liked these two. I really need a book with Lily and Caleb though, because the tension between those two is intense! Overall a good quick read and I look forward to more in the series.

As in the other books, we meet some new characters this time and get to know others a lot better. This book focuses on Genevieve, a brilliant and slightly nerdy MIT student, and Chad, a somewhat broken vampire. Genevieve really blossoms in this story, but even her growth doesn't make her lose the most endearing part of her... her social awkwardness that makes her so cute. I like that Chad wasn't created to be vampire perfection. Instead, he had doubts and he was, at least in his own eyes, broken. It was a great twist to the standard YA romantic hero.

Fans of Maggie and Shane are going to be disappointed because there is little of them in this book. But the story is growing and it is obvious that they will be back. I like this way of building the story, getting different perspectives in different books by focusing on different characters. There is a lot of action and a whole lot of mystery and intrigue building and building. I can't wait to see where it goes next!

Things to love...

--Genevieve. I like that she finds her own strengths and starts to appreciate herself.
--Anticipation. The story is building to a climax, adding layers with each book!

Things I wanted more/less of...

--Chloe, Maggie, and Shane. These three are fan favorites and even though they aren't the center of the story right now, I wish there had been a little more of them.

Some Quotastic Goodness

--My chest is so tight, it hurts. I pant, trying to keep quiet when I want to gasp. I wish I had a paper bag, but my captors have taken everything from me- most importantly, my freedom (Loc. 37).
--And holding her against me as we hung off the side of that train... I felt something (Loc. 751).
--It's a ton of pressure on her, putting the lives of so many humans, and our group in particular, on Genevieve. But she hasn't complained once. She's a fighter, she just fights with a unique set of tools, the best of which is her exquisite mind (Loc. 1793).

My Recommendation: This is a great series. Vamps and mystery and romance... what more could you want?! Next up is Delicate Accord, due out in the summer of 2014. This will be Lily and Caleb's story.

*I received a copy of this book from the publishers via NetGalley, (Thank you!), in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my opinion in any way.*

I love reading a series in order, and I didn’t realise Beloved Enemy was the third book in a series until shortly before I began reading. I haven’t read the previous two books, and I do think this had a big influence on my overall opinions on the book. I’ve read a couple of series out of order before, but I find I don’t get to know the characters as well as I want to. Plus, it usually cuts out the confusion of not knowing what is happening in the overall story line.

I’ll hold my hand up and say this is my fault, and I know that if I had read the previous books, I would have had so much more knowledge and familiarity towards the characters and story arc. I was confused for the first 20% or so. There are a lot of characters introduced very quickly and they are either fully human, vampire, warlock or Chaser. With all the names floating around I did get a bit confused with who was who, and who had what abilities.

Beloved Enemy is a very quick paranormal read. I’m not the fastest reader, and I finished it in one sitting. For such a short book, a lot happens. Our main female character, Genevieve, has been abducted and the book begins with her trying to escape her vampire captives. On her second attempt at escaping, she runs into Chad, our male MC, and the hormones kick in.

I feel like so much of the story was lost to me, and I would have liked to find out what happened to the characters before this book started. Several characters are mentioned but we don’t get to meet them, so my focus was really on Genevieve and Chad’s budding relationship, and the Catatatoares – bad vamp – problems .There might have been a hint of insta-attraction, but I enjoyed the way it played out. They didn’t immediately jump into the I-wuv-u’s which is so nice to see.

Overall, I did enjoy Beloved Enemy, but I really recommend reading the series from the beginning. While I did feel a bit lost at times, and I know this could have been avoided.

I couldn't help but read it immediately. My first thought when I read whose story would this be was, "Oh, no! It's Chad and Genevieve. What about Andi?" Well, when I finished reading it, I got my answer.

Like the previous book this also had multiple perspectives although enjoyable it was a bit confusing in terms of the scenery in which the next is not really related from the previous one. I enjoyed reading Lily's pov. I had an inkling of where her interest lay and I was right. It was fun reading this side of her and I never expected her to be a computer whiz besides being an expert at drawing blood.

For some reason when I read the beginning when Genevieve wanted to escape, I laughed. I find it quite amusing although I do understand her fears even though her being kidnapped was for her own good. I kind of find Genevieve's character weak although I do rather pick that than the strong, stubborn, and pigheaded heroines these days. They irritate me more but she does have her strong moments.

I never expected Chad as a vampire to have a problem with himself and that he thinks he not enough for Genevieve. I felt for Andi when she gave him the pep talked. That she loves him enough for him to be happy. When I read Andi's pov, I was like, "Don't worry girl, a guy will sweep your feet and he's right in front of you". I never saw that coming too.

I find it too short though and the ending was the same like the previous once. Abrupt and unsatisfying. I also want to know how they can continue their relationship with what being a mortal/immortal. I've been reading that line over and over. How it would work since the humans don't have forever. Another positive in this book is that they finally have a way to destroy the Cat. That was interesting but at the same time the method of how they die touched me.

The thing that I never expected the most was the traitor in their midst. And I felt bad for Josh.

I can't wait for the next books in this series and it makes me wonder who's story is next.

This is the third book in Lady Yager's Unholy Alliance series. We get to see more of the characters we've already met and we get to learn more about some of the newest ones from book two. BELOVED ENEMY mostly focuses on Genevieve and Chad.

Genevieve was kidnapped by Lily, Maggie and crew to help them figure out how to deal with cats, not furry, loving cats but evil hybrid, hard to kill vampires. Genevieve wants to escape and tries on multiple occasions. On her third attempt she is caught and gets stuck with Chad as they are on a mission to try and capture one of the cats. Chad risks his life to save her but he makes sure Genevieve gets out of the mission alive and unhurt. Chad and some of the rest of the crew sustain injuries but they all heal quickly between the vampires being able to generate and the warlocks helping the rest.

After Chad saves Genevieve she is suddenly curious about how the vampires heal and what they really want her to learn. She decides to willingly stay and help them. She learns more and more about vampires and as she analyzes the blood of the vampires and that of the cats she discovers the difference and ultimately Chad helps her figure out how to kill the cats. Meanwhile there is a growing attraction between them, but Genevieve is so convinced Chad is a murderer because he's a vampire that she's having trouble seeing him as more. Can she ever see past it?

I really enjoyed this installment of the Unholy Alliance series but I wish we'd seen more action in this book. Other than capturing the cat it was just inside the compound and Genevieve's work. I was just expecting a little bit more. Especially after how Rival ended. All in all it was a well done book.

I received this free eARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

So, just going to say this, the first line of the synopsis? "She's the unlikeliest vampire hunter ever. A scientist."? Totally misleading! Genevieve is so not a vampire hunter. She is, in fact, a scientist who is trying to find a cure to kill the inhumane vampires (also called Cats) in the world. But the hunter ya'll are thinking of? The one that can kick ass and use weapons and run fast? Yeah, that is totally not Genevieve. Which is quiet all right, but I was waiting for her to sprout some ninja moves and that never happened. I'm actually glad it didn't happen. I loved the sciencey, geeky Genevieve so much! She was brave but so so smart and was extremely into science it was adorable.

And Chad, the vampire, was trying so hard to stay away from normal, human Genevieve but seemed to always be stuck with her throughout their mission to kill the Cats. And he kept trying to ignore his feelings for Genevieve, but that didn't really work out too well for him.

I really liked this novel. I was a bit confused when I first started reading it and everything probably would have made a lot more sense if I had read the other novels in the series, but I wasn't aware that this was the 3rd novel until much later. However, I did catch on pretty quickly and fell into the story pretty well to understand what was going on.

So glad I got this eARC and am very sorry it's not so much of an "advanced" review as it should be. But I am glad that I got a chance to read this and I think a lot of readers will really enjoy it as well!

3.75 stars. I'm partial to nerdy girls :D so I'm liking Genevieve. She's a klutz and small, but brilliant. Usually, I complain these stories are too short, but this was a little slower because of the science aspect. I am looking forward to the next installment and the next couple.

Likes:
* Nerdy girl
* 3 guy categories: ignore her, want to be her lab partner (so she can do all the work) and talk to her once and figure out she's weird
* Lily taking care of Genevieve
* Chad is an interesting vampire always with something to prove

Dislikes:
* Cast of witches/warlocks, vampires, Chasers and other humans is getting difficult to track
* Geek U nickname
* Josh is a jerk

With-reservations:
violence, death, bullying, cripple

I received a copy of this book from Netgallery in exchange for an honest review.

This is book four in the Unholy Alliance series by Lacy Yager. If you haven't read the previous books I suggest you do. Although technically this can be read as a standalone it makes more sense with the background information of the previous three books.

What does a seventeen year old science prodigy have to do with vampires? Apparently a lot. Genevieve Quinn was kidnapped from her college campus by a vampire to help them with a vital project. Scared and not understanding why she was really being held hostage Genevieve is determined to escape. After several unsuccessful attempts she meets Chad and starts to rethink her opinions on vampires and her willingness to stay and help.

Chad Matthews is a vampire who is always up for a battle. Kind of. He didn't want anything to do with Genevieve but is confused about his almost instant and constant need to protect her. When her life is threatened all bets are off.

I had a hard time liking Genevieve. She was so timid most of the time that I found myself practically yelling at my kindle for her to stand up for herself. The few moments of spark were very welcome. Chad on the other hand was closed off and didn't want to let anyone get close to him. I was happy to see that by the end he worked thru his issues. All in all it was an engaging novella. I'm hoping the next book in the series comes out soon.

Beloved Enemy by Lacy Yager

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Genevieve is only seventeen, but she is already in college and trying to find a cure for cancer. However, this is ruined when she is kidnapped by vampires who want to use her so she can help them. At first Genevieve does everything she can to escape from them, but eventually she wonders if maybe she should stay and help them and she also can't help but wonder if the vampire Chad isn't all that bad after all.

First off I really loved Genevieve. She isn't like most characters with a vampire love interest. She has her own hobbies and passions. She is a very smart good who really wants to cure cancer and make a difference in the world. She also is able to take care of herself. Sure she's not the strongest person out there, but she still tries her hardest and she stands up for herself.

I didn't much like Chad's chapters as much, but he was okay, too. I found it interesting that he had an injury even though he was a vampire. He was easy to relate too for the most part but I didn't find him to be near as interesting as Genevieve was, but that's just me.

Overall I give this book four out of five.

I enjoyed reading Beloved Enemy; the story was interesting, the writing was good, and the characters were likeable. I also liked the POVs from both Genevieve and Chad. They have good chemistry and I liked how they realized (and denied) and developed their feelings for each other.

I love the protective side of Chad although he's a bit fragile because of his leg. I also felt sad for Andi, especially when I read her POV. It was heartbreaking for her. I love her character, she's a good friend and she definitely deserves a good guy.

I liked Genevieve's personality — being a science geek focused on her goals. She may be not as headstrong as I want her to be, but she's strong enough to continue and help with fighting the Cats. I hope in the next installment we could see some of Genevieve's fighting scenes. That would be interesting given that she'll be trained good enough ('cause you know, she's really not that physically strong).

The only thing is that I hope it was longer. The only major fight scene was the tunnel encounter with the Cats and I hope there could be more to that. All in all, I enjoyed the journey of reading Beloved Enemy and I will definitely read the next one in the series.

And oh, that evil, traitor warlock. Get him!

"As in the interstate? My mind and heart are racing. I have to get out of this car."

Genevieve is a scientist who has been kidnapped by vampires.

After executing the quickest escape ever, she accidentally gets into a car full of vampires.

Chad is a vampire with a bum knee (weird I know ok) who is embarrassed that Genevieve saw him get his ass handed to him.

And that's 20% of the book.

This was probably one of the fastest books I've ever read.

And, of course, id be the one to accidentally read the third book I a series, but thankfully, these are companion-ish so I wasn't that confused.

Genevieve is probably one of the most annoying characters I've had to deal with and I've read a lot of YA.

Genevieve is afraid of vampires because they drink blood. Okay. Makes sense.

But unless you have been bitten and/or killed by a vampire your fear is unjustified and you're a whiny bitch.

And uh oh we have another anti social protagonist who just doesn't like people and gets bullied because she's so young and geeky *sad face*

She's such an idiot though that she doesn't realize that this guy is blind except calls him stupid and more socially awkward than she is.

Chad calls Genevieve mature when the literal opposite is true.

I really enjoyed this book, my only problem being that it wasn’t long enough! Genevieve is a geeky MIT prodigy who gets kidnapped by a group of vampires and warlocks who need her help to wipe out a species soulless, vampire monsters. Of course, after a vampire saves Genevieve’s life, a love story ensues.

First, you should know that this is not a standalone book. I have read Unholy Alliance and still found myself trying to remember names and events because this story refers to that book but very little is said to jog your memory. That being said, I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I’m not a huge fan of novellas but this one made me wish that it were a full-length novel. The main characters were interesting and even with the short length, I felt like I got to know them enough to enjoy the story. Genevieve had to be saved quite a few times in this book so if you’re looking for a kick ass heroine who is a master at martial arts, look elsewhere.

In short, if you’re looking for a quick fun read and have already read Unholy Alliance, I highly recommend this novella.

This was definitely not a stand-alone book. I received this ARC from Net Galley for an honest review so I hadn't read the first book "Unholy Alliance". I spent the first half of the book trying to figure out who was who and how they relate to the story. There are a lot of characters in here thus leading the way for more spin-offs. Once I got everybody straight it was entertaining and I got into it. I did feel like the main characters fell in "love" too quickly. I have a feeling this is going to be the way of it in most of the following books because they seem to all center around a new couple. The point of this book, other than the romance, is to scientifically find a way to kill off super strong super evil vampires that are moving close to the human population and killing them. This has the potential to expose vampires and to make them all look bad. This leads to all the supernatural creatures banding together to try to solve this problem even if it takes a human scientist studying them to make it work. There are several books in this series following this one that are already published so you don't have to worry about cliffhangers overly much.

Walking into the middle of a series is never an easy thing. Plot points and key conversations have happened that you don't know about - BUT not with this series.

Even not knowing the first 2 books, this story was very easy to get right into. It starts off quick, counting the days that Genevieve has been abducted. From there the story is fast paced and well plotted. The characters are believable - even though they are paranormal.

The writing is very well done - it flows easily and seamlessly through each part of the story. And Lacy Yager did an amazing job of catching me, the reader, up on at least some of the previous books because I didn't feel confused or lost at all.

Best of all was the love story. It was "insta" but only in the attraction part. The rest was a slow build that left me wanting to turn the pages faster - just to know what would happen next.

There are Cats, Warlocks, Vampires and humans - all perfectly placed in this story. Whether you've read the series or are just starting with this one - I'd recommend giving it a try!

So, yes, this is a novella. Something I was unaware of before I started reading. (I thought it ended really fast...) What I also didn't know is that this is a part of a series, the third book in said series to be precise. But hey! That actually worked out in this novella's favor. While being a part of a series, I didn't feel confused in the world Ms. Yager created. (I mean, yea, I questioned things, but that's typical of any book anywhere.)

Now, I did want more from Genevieve and Chad. I wanted to see more of the bond between these two characters. I know, I know. It is a novella, but I just felt like everything happened too quickly... Is this a paradox?

The story line felt a bit like it was in the background. I mean, this book definitely focused of Gen and Chad. Which, hey, fine with me. But I definitely wanted more, especially concerning Gen's research.

I guess all in all, I just wanted this novella to be a novel. More from the story, more from the characters. Maybe then it wouldn't have felt so hollow.

Beloved Enemy was one of those novels that I didn’t think I would be able to get into. The vampire genre is a little overdone right now and I didn’t feel this was anything to write home about. That being said I did enjoy this book. I liked the characters and the little development that was happening in the novel. I also liked the fact that it was told from dual POVs. I enjoyed the supernatural and science aspect of the book and it was really cool how those came together! :)

I thought it was a bit short. The ARC that I received comes in at 132 pages. A lot happens in those 132 pages. I thought some scenes could be fleshed out a bit more, such as the fights, to make a long more enjoyable book. The writing style felt a bit short and halting too. Maybe that was just me though… It did have enough plot-wise going on that it kept me interested and got me hooked enough to want the next installment. (I think this is a series? If not it should be or it should be turned into a longer book)

The Unholy Alliance series continues with the story of Chad and Genevieve. Chad is one of Alex’s vampires from the Alex/Rachel storyline while Genevieve is the kidnapped MIT prodigy that Maggie and crew were helping to have study the Cats. Unlikely pair? Just like all the others, this one smashed these two characters together until I was rooting for their reluctant romance.

Chad is an almost 100 year old vampire with a chip on his should (or in his knee) who, during one of Genevieve’s failed escape attempts, gets saddled with “babysitting” duty. Genevieve is finally exposed to what she was originally kidnapped to study. The scientist and fighter somehow find some common ground that blossoms into yummy YA romance.

These books are quick and fun reads that are all ultimately pushing the bigger plotline. If you’re looking for a YA paranormal romance that will make you smile, laugh, and sit on the edge of your seat through the action of it all, this series is for you.

Review Copy from NetGalley

Beloved Enemy is a short story about a young scientist Genevieve being taken by some vampires to help with their cause. The problem is she doesn't understand anything or why they really need her. So she tries to escape, until she meets Caleb. After the initial attraction, Genevieve figures Caleb doesn't like her so she continues on in her mission. She also finds out that Caleb is actually a vampire, so even though at first she was skeptical she slowly starts to trust him. Caleb on the other hand is trying to get her out of his head, but he knows that's impossible. He likes her but feels he isn't good enough. But they may not have a choice when they realize her life might be in danger..

This book was very short, but it was very interesting as well. Since I hadn't read the two previous books I was slightly confused about a few things here and there, but over all the actually story was okay. I liked Genevieve for the most part, and Caleb too. Not sure I really liked any of the side characters, but I did like the main two.

I love these books. They are short and a quick read, but each one has a different story of hope it tells in a world that seems to be falling apart for the main characters.

I have read all of the previous books by this author, and though I didn't expect this perspective I loved it.

I am often turned away by books that have vampires as good guys, but I really love these books and I am glad I became hooked on the book that didn't have vampires as the main characters so that I could become hooked on this series.

I enjoyed the story for the story it is telling about hope and love even in the middle of a secret war between evil vampires and chasers/good vampires.

I loved the change of pace with the timid human who didn't want to be there. It caused some quite interesting conflicts and brought a lot of humor to the story.

I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast lightweight read.

I have really enjoyed this series so far and this latest installment, BELOVED ENEMY, is no exception. Genevieve has never really fit in. Too smart and far to young to be in college, she does her best to keep her head down and continue her research into cancer. That is until she is kidnapped and given a research assignment that really intrigues her.

Watching Genevieve come into her own is a real treat. She gains confidence and the attention of a vampire who has his own issues. Chad is a real sweetie but because he doesn't heal like a normal vampire, he is really down on himself and doesn't feel that he is worthy of the plucky little scientist.

BELOVED ENEMY is a shorter novella but there is a surprising amount of character growth that takes place. We are also given the opportunity to check in on some of the leads from earlier novella. It's a quick and satisfying read. I do recommend it to my readers who enjoy paranormal romances. It is robust enough to stand on its own but I do recommend picking up the entire series.

I really enjoyed Chad and Genevieve's story.

Chad's story was really interesting. I loved that he is a strong, invincible vampire with an injury. I enjoyed how his insecurities around his injury challenged him at the same time it hindered him.

I have enjoyed Genevieve since she came into the story. The smart girl who was kidnapped for the greater good. I loved that initially she didn't stop fighting to get away. She just didn't fall into the situation and agree to it and comply. She fought to escape and against what she was being told.

The story of these two falling for each other was really sweet. The story was well developed and there was a lot of interesting twist to the story as well as old characters from the previous books. It was such a great read and I'm glad the author gave me the chance to read it and review it.

I will continue to read these action packed, well thought out stories.

I would like to thank the author for giving me a chance to read it. The book was amazing. Though in the start I felt as if I was missing something in the book because I didn't understand how Genivieve was kidnapped, but then later in the book it was told that she was there voluntarily to help them with a research so that she can get enough funds for her cancer research. I really liked the chemistry between Chad and Genivieve. It wasn't too fast or too slow. The author showed how they gradually developed feelings for each other. I was captivated by the way they fought and got away from the Cats . There was a mix of romance, mystery of the Cats, as well as thriller. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone.

I really liked this edition to the Unholy Alliance series! Genevieve and Chad were both excellent! I love how Genevieve uses her intelligence to help fight against the creatures, and I thought Chad was a sweetheart; while still maintaining his strength. I liked Chad and Genevieve as a couple; I think they both have attributes that help the other be a better person. I like the world this series is set in; having many types of supernaturals together helps keep it interesting, and the action sequences are fun and exciting.. Beloved Enemy was a very quick read, and it kept me interested till the end! I have read the 2 previous books in the series, and I loved both of them, so I will definitely continue to read anymore books in this series! I hope there will be a book where all the characters get together for a big finale!

The Unholy Alliance series carries on with the tale of Chad and Genevieve with Lacey Yager’s Beloved Enemy.

The plotline is stimulating in itself, although the story develops a tad slower than the earlier novels. It was a little too slow for me for the most part.

As it was such a quick read, I felt like there were a few questions that were not entirely answered. I am anticipating they will be answered in the next book. Overall, I did enjoy this book but would have liked it better if it were longer. If you are looking for a YA paranormal romance that will make you grin, laugh, and sit on the edge of your chair over the action of it all, this series is for you.
