Not a success. Aside from truly bad writing, the biggest reason for my failure to connect might be because the characters defy reason.
That ten year old girl is way too chipper for having lost her parents to a gruesome murder less than a day ago, not to mention walking onto the scene and having to help bury them.
Wait. A few books ago they wanted to kill Dominic because he might get upset about being told he’s a wolf, but they send off young Ian to break the news about wolves and mating to Will, who was that same day mauled by wolves and probably is traumatized, without any backup? Eh, must be because Roderick is not explicitly in on this plan. He’d be the first to yell, “Kill them! Kill them all!” Anyway, they’re lucky that Will, like any other character in this story, doesn’t have the reactions of a real human being.
And I know I stopped mentioning this in my reviews because it keeps happening, but almost every protagonist in this series has blue eyes. And I know this because it’s always pointed out lovingly. The author must have a serious thing for blue eyes above all other possibilities.
Overwhelmingly people and reactions here do not make any sense to me, but I frankly was too lazy to document this in detail.
However, once Ian things become a little more interesting. I mean, he still does not behave in a particularly reasonable way (), but that part of the plot feels considerably more fun, simply because the situation deviates from the always same sex and mush stuff. Things turn fairly gruesome towards the end (Ian’s family sure is messed up; ).
As if to make up for the (more interesting) Will-less portion of the story, we go straight back into mush and boredom. I might have gone with a two-star rating until then, but really, people are just so one-dimensional and I still don’t get them at all and, worse, I find myself simply not caring about any of them, that by the end I have to accept that I simply don’t like the book at all.
Oh-my-forkin-gravy! THE ERRORS!!!! Is there not an editor? I normally do NOT nitpick on spelling errors, but there were SO many in almost ALL of the books. Not to mention the damn NAME mix-ups. I have no idea how many times the screw ups with names happened. I kept trying to figure out who Damon was, when I *think*, *hope*, the author was talking about Viktor seeing as he's Shane's mate. Erik was Erik in the first 10 books, then became Eric. It was just bad. I hate to say this, but it really took away from the stories and I had to drop my ratings :(
I did like how the humans were tops and the wolves were bottoms and most of the time they were verse. It was a nice surprise.
By the end of my reading I really didn't care for nosy Aiden. He kept pissing me off. Then we have Ethan talking to Ian about "what if something happens to me", really Ethan? Are you the one to be giving advice?
It was nice to finally add some girls into the mix though. Kat and Kelsey are going to make some nice additions.
I'd say the book is more like a 3.5 I Thought the plot itself was unique and entertaining. Not super unpredictable but not mind-numbing predictable either. .. right in the middle. I do think that there weren't enough love scenes between will and Ian but is difficult to do that when like 1/2 of the book is spent with the couple being apart. I also thought that their reunion after being seperated for like a month was quite tame... almost unremarkable. We all are aware for Mates behave when apart from their other half and Will didn't even know if Ian was alive or not for all that time and then they were able to be content with one 30 sec phone call...???... umm wtf? I wouldn't even be satisfied with one 30 sec phone call after not talking to my bf for 1 month let alone my non existent mate! ! Anyway that aside it was really cute and it was nice seeing a young character like Ian be so mature and responsible. Not all 18 year Olds are retarded...lol.... It was nice meeting new characters for the series too!!
Ian being an alpha.. see for a VERY brief time, wolfie side included, that he could be considered an alpha. Otherwise for an alpha he's kind of a pansy.
Ian and Will's relationship... they are separated after such a brief time together that I didn't get a chance to feel the connection between them.
Sasha ... psychotic bitch who raises a boy named Kyle AND manages to hide her true personality for years to him? Don't buy it. Plus the reasons of why wanting to keep a lockdown on him when he's almost an adult didn't make a lot of sense to me.
Katrina and Lucas relationship: = Grandmother and half brother baby... grandma really not trying to change what her evil daughter was doing.. and Lucas. Why wait this long to go for another round?
The BIG HUGE nice neat bow that the ending turned out to be. Everyone is back together, with extended family added in and baby Lucas felt like a burden dealt with to me.
So that is pretty much my issue list for this book. I was mostly with it and overlooking a few things until someone's kidnapping and the rest as they say is history.
Chapter one read on May 12, 2014 and let put on hold
