Vera Valdara knows how to hide, tucked away in a chemistry career with her magic sealed up tight. The blades she carries were sharpened the day she was born, her head taught to be on a constant swivel. Because normal doesn't exist when mercenaries hunt for your treasonous family, not when their employer has no concept of forget.
But living and breathing defense only take her so far when a birthday surprise goes horribly wrong. The walls she worked so carefully to build are torn apart, and she is thrust into a conflict that has the continent divided. Hidden factions come to light, and each of them are racing against the same deadline, chasing the same prophesied blood. But they all want differing outcomes. Spilling that fated crimson will reopen the portals to her realm, but five centuries of propaganda blur what waits on the other side - and why it was sealed to begin with.
Beakers and burners won’t solve the mysteries of the gods, but Vera’s ex and some unlikely allies might.
The countdown tolls. The lies unravel. The prophecy awaits.
Sins of Light is the first in a New Adult Romantasy series. This debut novel has a prophecy deadline, unique magic, fated mates, spice, and a dual POV featuring a badass female main character and a hot mess male main character.
This was such a fun read! The world building is easy to digest and the magic is cool and unique. The pacing was fast and the multi POV allowed for pieces of the puzzle to be revealed little by little which made it hard to put down.
The FMC, Vera, is a sassy and sarcastic chemist, whose world gets turned upside down when everything she thought she knew turns out to be a lie. Despite the betrayals and lies, she finds herself learning more about her heritage and herself as she finds new connections with new characters.
I loved so many characters in this story. Vera’s BFF, Faye, is one I’d love to have in my corner. She’s so fun and loyal. There are multiple male characters that I also have a soft spot for. I don’t want to give anything away about the male characters 🤭… but I do want to share that the romance is so well done! The evolving friendship between Vera and her man, the flirty training scenes, the growing sexual tension 😮💨, and the delicious spice… I ate it up!
I loved how the story ended. It’s not super cliffy but it does leave you wondering, questioning, doubting, hoping… I’m so looking forward to continuing this series!
I highly recommend if you love: ✨sassy and nerdy FMC ✨morally grey MMC ✨fated mates ✨banter 🤌🏼 ✨prophecy countdown ✨gods/goddesses, fae, demons ✨flirty training scenes 😏 ✨found family 🥹 ✨”Eyes on me...” 🔥🌶️
✨ "Sins of Light by Melissa Curtis: A Spellbinding Start to an Epic Romantasy Series!" ✨
From the very first chapter, Sins of Light drew me into its intricately crafted world of divine prophecy, magic, and fated love. Melissa Curtis’s writing is vivid and immersive, making every moment feel like you’re right there with the characters.
Vera Valdara is a force to be reckoned with—her strength, intelligence, and vulnerability make her one of my favorite heroines of all time. The dual POV was a brilliant choice, giving readers a glimpse into both the badass FMC and the hot mess MMC (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a little chaos?).
The steamy moments? Perfection. The battles? Epic. The twists? Unpredictable. Curtis weaves a narrative so intricate and gripping that I couldn’t put the book down. The fated mates and light vs. dark elements add so much depth to this story, and it’s a must-read for romantasy fans who love books by Sarah J. Maas or Jennifer L. Armentrout.
This book is the start of something special, and I cannot wait for the next installment. If you love fantasy romance with complex characters and high-stakes action, this one’s for you! 🌟
This book was so refreshing and fun, I dived in not knowing much about the plot and I like doing that with books. I was not able to put it down. It was so intriguing. The journey of Vera’s self discovery of herself and her powers is beautiful. There were so many twists here that I didn’t see coming. The end of the book was so satisfying and epic yet leaves you wanting more. Let’s talk about Lukan 🫠🫠🫠 we need more men like him in the world. There was some good slow burn, angst and banter. The world building, character growth and the magic system were beautifully crafted. This debut novel is amazing and worth every minute of reading. I recommend you pick up this beautiful book. Can’t wait to read book two It is going to be one of my anticipated reads.
Hold onto your hats, folks—this new adult fantasy is a whirlwind of epic proportions! From start to finish, the pacing is relentless. It’s like a rollercoaster that won’t let you catch your breath! 😂
We’re talking a countdown that cranks up the tension, snappy banter between characters that’ll have you cackling, and a plot packed with spice, found family, and a badass female lead who’s ready to take on the world. Plus, there’s a hot mess of a male lead to keep things interesting.
With prophecies, unique magic, and some serious fae royalty drama, this debut has all the tropes you love—friends to lovers, who’s really the enemy, and a dynamic dual POV that keeps you on your toes.
Did I mention the best friend relationship? It’s the kind of friendship we all need in our lives! Now, excuse me while I impatiently await the next installment. This series is off to a fiery start!
Hi Book Besties!💕🌻 I am so excited to share my review with you guys for Sins of Light 😍 By @melissacurtisauthor A Giant thank you to @HiddenHollowBookTours for the gifted eARC! This is the first book in this series!. It does have some pretty dark themes so you should absolutely check out those trigger warnings before jumping in! Your mental health is always more important than a book. This was an awesome book! I love that Vera is this crazy powerful weapon before she ever knows the extent of her power! Plus she’s brilliant and doesn’t let anyone tell her who she is inside! This book was such a fun read and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
I really enjoyed the pacing of this new adult fantasy story, it is full on right up to the end. It has so much happening that you cannot turn the pages quick enough. The countdown bringing a whole new level of peril and stress 😂There is lots of banter between the characters. All the characters are fleshed out really well. This book has spice, found family, lies and deceit, a bad ass fmc, prophecies and magic. It really does have it all.
I love that this story captures your attention from the beginning and does not slow down much. The main character's relationship with her best friend cracks me up and we should ALL have that best friend. So now I am anxiously awaiting the next part of this story. Love it!!!!
