Can Ann open her heart and let Duane in?
Unable to Resist is a story about love, loss and finding healing in unlikely places.

This is a beautifully written wonderfully sweet swoonworthy love story through and through. Not a lot insecure drama, no cheating, no acting stupid, but two people hurt in the past trying to find their way and along the way they find each other. Once they find each other, one falls hard but sees he needs take it slow because the girl is scared and has walls around her due to her past. He opens up her world and eyes to see that it is okay to let someone in and love again. He supports her and helps her to let go. She helps him to live again.
Duane is a cowboy/lawyer who was always to busy with careers to let someone in. When he meets Ann his breath is taken from him and he begins to see life is more than just work. Duane is the kindest sweetest guy out there. He just exudes sexy and confident but he also sees Ann needs to be eased into a relationship and into being loved. This guy will have you swoon ladies. His patience is so precious to see. Ann likes Duane even dare I say loves him but is afraid due to her past. It's not some horrible my boyfriend cheated on me deal. Hers is not heartbreak that has her having trust issues, no hers is tragic loss that cripples her.
These two will have you smile and the intimate scenes are never over the top but romantic and make you feel warm and fuzzy. They do not come together until the end and this is Duane's doing. He wanted her to feel loved and needed. He wanted to complete her like she did him. He wanted the moment to be perfect. Such a wonderful guy.
A story of love healing old wounds and opening a world of romance, support and kindness. A beautiful wooing of a girl by a boy who just wants to love her with all his heart.
This book was TOO adorbs!!!!! It was so cute and swoony, I think I fangirled my way through the entire thing!
I wasn't sure if I'd like the book because I think Duane is a terrible name, and I wasn't sure if I could swoon. But oh goodness. Give it five minutes, and he could be named Kermit. Honestly, he is getting put on my book boyfriend list pronto! Ann is also hilarious and a totally cute heroine, and I want to be her bestie!
Add in some awesome quotable quotes and awesome secondary characters, and this book is perfect for anyone wanting a light romance with some mystery thrown in.
If you're looking for a sweet, tease-filled, romantic love story complete with a dash of heartache and a whole cup of hilarious - this is your book.
You can read the synopsis and get a good feel for the story line of this book, but what you won't pick up on is how you're in for so much more than you could imagine. There's heartache, discovery, breaking down walls and finding a way to re-build them with someone new. The character growth in this book is very well done and for a debut novel, the plot is strong and fun to read.
What I loved most about Cassie's debut book was the humor. My goodness, Ann had me cracking up pretty much the whole way through! I mean, don't get me wrong, there is some serious heartache going on - but Ann has a way to lighten almost any mood - even the sexy ones! I don't want to give anything away, but my favorite quote is the "tick-freaking-tock" one. Once you read it, you'll understand. ;)
Cassie is such a tease - and I do mean that in every sense of the word. She teases with the plot line, with what will come next, with when the story will shift and turn, and most of all - with the sex. Good LORD, the woman almost killed me with the sexual tension. So fun and so, SO much teasing. And Duane? Hello, Cowboy. One word - SWOON.
I read this book in the beta stage and there were a few grammar issues, but nothing the editor won't fix up. My only warning for this book is if you aren't a fan of love at first sight/touch, don't pick this up. I say that not because I don't think this is an amazing story, but because I know there are some people out there who absolutely loathe that instant connection and I don't want that one quality to distract from the overall element of this book. If that's not your style, steer away so the fairy tale lovers can jump in and enjoy this one, instead. :)
Overall, I am so incredibly proud of Cassie. I know first-hand how difficult it is to write a book and throw it to the wolves. She is a brave soul and her debut novel is one you do not want to miss out on. I can't wait to see what comes next from this young author! (ahem... Jennings please!) Oh, and PS - BEAUTIFUL cover!
Unable to resist is a very well written book and until i was finished reading it I had no idea it was Cassie's first novel, that being said here is my review!
Ann is a young woman who has had several hard knocks in life by the time she has reached 18, and it is heartbreaking to read about. So she moves from her hometown in Arizona and establishes a coffeehouse in Nashville. Here she makes friends with a girl around her age and they wind up becoming as close as sisters. Ann is surviving- but she is not living. Day in and day out she exists, haunted by dreams of the past and what she has lost.
One night while Ann and her friend are out and about, Ann meets Duane and this is when things start to happen. Duane is a lawyer and is very important to what happens overall in this book!
Duane too has had bad breaks in his life, and forced at a young age to take over care of his family's ranch, attend school to become a lawyer all while taking are of his younger brother, his life is all work, and nothing else. While he is happy with his life an living with his brother and a good career as well as running a ranch that pays for itself, he too is just surviving.
This book is well written, and has a lot of things going on at the same time, but it is what gives the book character, has a great plot, angst between the characters as well as a lot of laughter and hilarity at some of the situations that happen.
Most of all this book is about love, learning to let go, dealing with loss of the worst sort, but at the same time learning how to overcome and let new people into your life and just learning how to live.
I gave this book 5 stars as it was a great read, and I am sure I will be seeing more from this author, she has a great style of writing!
Ann has her own bakery, lives and works with her best friend Liv in Tennessee. From the outside looking in, it appears that Ann has a good life, but that is far from the truth. She has a past in Arizona that continues to haunt her in her dreams and in life. She has come to except that she is destined to be alone and to never be loved, that she maybe too broken to be loved.
Duane is a gorgeous, southern gentleman, cowboy, lawyer, who had to take on many responsibilities at a young age when both of his parents died. He was left with the family farm/business and his younger brother to raise. Duane has a busy life. He has decided there aren’t any ‘real’ girls out there to be found, so he has given up looking. Until one fateful night when he went out with his brother and guys from the farm to a bar, he had an instant attraction to a girl but wasn’t quite sure what to do about it.
Fate stepped in a second time, when the next day after Ann and Duane’s brief encounter at the bar, Duane showed up on Ann’s doorstep as her new Attorney to help with her father’s unsolved case. At this point neither realized the attraction that the other one had, it was quite a site to watch the two try not to make contact and keep it professional.
The instant attraction and love that Duane and Ann felt for one another is what fairy tales are made from. This book is an amazing story of finding out everything is not always as it seems and sometimes you have to let people in to love you and help you to understand that you are not alone. The characters in this book are truly lovable. Jason, Liz and Mia are amazing friends to Ann. The connection that Duane has with his brother is also a joy to watch.
Here is one of my favorite 'serious meaningful' quotes from the book (there were many funny ones between Ann and Duane that I would have loved to share but there is just not enough space, LOL);
‘It’s moments like these when you begin to appreciate all of the hell you went through and endured because it only made you better. It made you stronger. It made you who you are today. Find a way to thank the people who made your life miserable. Make them understand that, because of the shit they put you through, you refuse to back down. Live to prove yourself right. It only takes one second to change your future. So, follow your heart. Take the time to laugh and play-find the good in every moment.’
To me this quote is a great summary of the lessons and meanings that are shown throughout the book. Bottom line life is not all roses and rainbows, everyone has their own struggle, and it is what they chose to do with it that will determine the life they will lead. This story touched me, it made me laugh and it made me cry, but in the end I LOVED every bit of it.
This love story is a very well written piece full of wonderfully swoonwothy love!! When you think of a debut novel falling within the reigns of YA or NA you think of lots of drama and other issues. That is not the case with this book. Within the pages you are introduced to two people who have been hurt in the past and trying to find their way; while along the way they find each other. Once this occurs, one falls hard but sees he needs take it slow because the girl is scared and has erected a fortress around her heart. He slowly breaks down the walls and opens eyes to see that it is okay to let someone in again. While he supports her and helps her to let go, she helps him to learn to live again.
Duane is a cowboy/lawyer who was always extremely to busy with his career to let someone in. Ann and Duane meet one night when he goes out with his brother and a few friends to a bar. When he meets Ann his breath is taken away...love at first sight, if you believe in that he. At this time, he is unsure of himself and how to move forward with this breath of fresh air. Duane is the all "American" guy...the total package. Although, he exudes sexy and confidence he also sees Ann needs to be eased into a relationship and into being loved. This guy will have your heart ladies. Ann likes Duane even dare I say loves him but is afraid due to her past. Her past is not simply one where you fall in love and and cheating happens...NO, hers is not heartbreak...Hers is a tragic loss that cripples her both emotionally and physically.
Fate steps in a second time after Ann and Duane’s brief encounter at the bar. Duane shows up on Ann’s doorstep as her new Attorney to help with her father’s unsolved case. At this point neither realize the attraction that the other one has. The sexual chemistry between these two were out the roof ...it was quite funny to see them fight their emotional ties and chemistry while trying to stay at a professional level rather than just giving in to it and going carnal on each other.
A story of love, healing old wounds and opening a world of romance, support and kindness. A beautiful wooing of a girl by a boy who just wants to love her with all his heart.
I received this book as an ARC, for an exchange of an honest review.
I give Unable To Resist 5+ swooning stars.
I absolutely loved this book. I only regret not knowing about it sooner. It was one of the best books I've read.
The characters were awesome. I loved them all. Duane is just ahhhhhh, to die for, sexy as hell, H-O-T, big hearted, loyale, loving, wonderful all around southern charming guy. He had it all, but was still losing something, and didn't realize what it was until Ann came along. And she was perfect as can be. She was everything he wanted that he didn't know he needed; and now cannot live without. Now THAT is the kinda love we all wish for. He had so many great talents, and experience. I mean a lawyer, a cowboy, and song writer, singer, the looks, and the body. Like hot damn!!!!!!
Ann was also a great character, she went through so much that not to many people could have done, but she was a strong, warm hearted, fiesty, devoted, beautiful girl, who took off, and started over all alone, except she found a great friend to do it with; and she accomplished everything she was going for. She was so conservative, quiet, and overly friendly UNTIL you pissed her off. Then holy hell mother of god, do i feel sorry for you. As in the barbie ex-girlfriend. I wish she could have gotten her hands on her though!!
Now the best friend and brother, are also having there happliy ever after, right across from Duane and Ann, which I think is just fricken awesome. Two great, respectful southern gentlemen. How did they ever get so lucky!!!!
With both of there families growing are like dreams coming true. And that my friends is how it ended.
It was just amazing. I loved the book, and I'm so glad it didn't have all that cheating going on, it was just perfect!!!
THIS BOOK IS SO STINKIN SWEET I WANT TO CUDDLE IT ALL DAY AND NIGHT !!
This was a quick sweet and healing read , perfect for a nice summer day and perfect when you need a break from all the lying and cheating kind !! Ann is still heartbroken over losing her high school sweetheart Kyle and also losing her father. She is plagued by nightmares of her fathers death and also plagued with the lack of desire to form relationships with men and find love again. Though she is a happy person with a few close friends and running her bakery/cafe , she had to run from Arizona to accomplish this. Duane is a die hard worker , lawyer and runs his family ranch. He is a great guy and also unlucky in love but not really searching for it either. Fate has other plan when Ann and Duane are forced into each others lives 2 times in a matter of days.
Duane helps Ann through some very difficult findings and it is during this time that they fall for each other and although you may say ewww insta-love , this is not cheesy at all. It is fun loving and heartwarming. They both find love and healing and I loved following their journey. I love reading both POV's and the sexual build-up is phenomenal !! The epilogue really brings the story full circle and now all we need is some more JASON !! Of course I would also like Aiden and Liv's full story !!
Sidenote- I had my very own Kyle , no word of a lie , met in 5th grade and he was the class clown , beautiful blue eyes !! Anyhow , was my 1st love and he died a few days before his 20th birthday...this book really hit me a few times in good and very emotional ways , I could really relate to Ann , it has been 18 years and it still feels like yesterday.
I had the pleasure of beta reading this book. This debut novel has everything in it. The sweet swoony Duane will sweep you off your feet and sassy Ann who you instantly want as your friend. Ann has a tough time in her past and is afraid to let anyone in until she meets Duane. For some reason, she wants him in her life. This isn't your typical love story. It is a sweet romance where their relationship slowly builds. There is so much tension being built throughout this story, it will keep you on your toes.. or at least questioning the outcome.. (so much sexual tension!!!!) Ann is witty, humorous, and will having you laughing through the book. Even though is she dealing through tough situations, she brings a light to them and tries to make them not as bad. Don't worry y'all, Ann has great friends in book that you will simply adore.(maybe we will hear from them in the future?!)
Sweet, sexy Daune will have lady wishing for their own southern gentlemen. The way him and Ann interact together will make your heart melt and sigh.
(that's all I'm giving you, no spoilers from me!)
Pick up the book today, you be disappointed! You will enjoy the growth, the love and the relationship of all the characters in this book. You will have lots of laugh, some tears, loads of sexual tension and the most heart felt relationship.
Expect big things from this author! This debut novel knocked it out of the park, which makes me extremely excited for her upcoming works.
Ann Daniels is doing her second favorite thing that she is good at baking and owning a bakery. The other love for her was singing but she left that behind seven years ago with the tragic death of her high school boyfriend on their graduation night. It was also the night she found out they both found out she was pregnant with her boyfriend Kyle’s baby. They decided to go out to celebrate their graduation and future when they ended up in a car crash where Kyle was killed and she ended up losing the baby.
One night ends up at a bar with her friends she ends up force on stage to sing to the crowd. She meets Duane Rynard as they bumped into each other literally. There is chemistry between them but only exchange first names as they go their separate ways.
Next day they meet again as he turns out to be her lawyer who is investigating the mysterious death of her father several years ago which was thought to be a suicide. Ann would dream of her father talking to her about the answers are in the questions. A possible break in the case has Ann and Duane taking a trip back to her hometown as their attraction grows knowing that they cannot be involved since there are client and attorney.
We watch as they flirt with each other and yet be distant. Ann reveals her secrets to Duane as he tries to be honorable and prove to her that she is worthy to be love. It’s a feel good romance that we root for their happiness.
If you are looking for a book about an amazing connection between two people and amazing writing this book is for you. This is Cassie's debut novel and I had the pleasure of beta reading it for her. She takes you on a journey of heartbreak, a little bit of mystery, lots of swoon (*cough Duane *cough) and lots of laughs. Ann is hilariously sassy and beautiful. She is a fiery southern girl. She has had some hard times in her past and is working on getting past them. Ann has a special way of making everyone around her laugh with her southern sass. Her inner dialogue had to be one of my favorite parts of the book. Duane is a sexy lawyer by day and mouth watering, swoon worthy ranch owner by night. The secondary characters were just as amazing. Liv, Aiden and Mia were the icing on the cake of this amazing story. The connection between the characters is beautifully written and I hope we hear more from some of them. I can't wait to read more from Cassie because I know she's only going to get better as she continues writing. It is an absolute honor and a privilege to not only know Cassie but to call her a friend. I hope you all give this book a chance, you won't be disappointed.
Author Cassie Graham is now 2 for 2 on writing books that I couldn't put down! Yesterday was an 'Unable To Resist' marathon for me, and I was truly unable to resist absorbing each and every word of this delightful novel.
In just a few pages I was fully absorbed into these wonderful characters. The author's writing style flows effortlessly and draws you into the characters' lives with ease.
The character of Ann is so relatable and I found myself empathizing with her and cheering her along as she made her journey to rediscover love.
In this book, the author brings back the ideals of unconditional love and undeniable attraction. The love story advances quickly, and being a hopeless romantic myself (who found myself falling in love with my husband on our very first date), I relished every word. I love Ann and Duane's love!!!
Unable to resist if about a woman named Ann who has struggled with the guilt and loss of her father who was murdered. She throws herself into work at the bakery she runs with her friends.
When she decides to fight to get answers about her fathers death, she enlists the help of Duane, the gorgeous, sexy lawyer whom she ran into at the bar the night before.
Duane is a successful lawyer and ranch owner who has no time for a personal life. He has dated women before but has never found one to peek his interest. Until Ann.
Both are drawn to each other immediately and cross the lines of their professional arrangement. They are both what each other need to mend their broken hearts.
This book was great. It was a touching story and the characters were wonderful. A definite must read.
I was caught the first page! A debut novel that hit everything you would want in a book and more. Cassie gives us a book that is filled with love, passion, laughter and heart ache. Ann, looks at life with humor making light of the most serious of situations. Hot and heavy Ann and Duane heat up the pages of this book. You won't want to put this book down, but make sure you that you are prepared to run through the gamut of emotions as this book will hold you till the end. I loved it!
From the very start, Cassie Graham grabs at your interest in Unable to Resist. It's so very refreshing to read a true, romantic novel where the hero and heroine don't jump in bed with each other five minutes into the first chapter. You could cut the tension on these pages!
Unable to Resist is a stand alone book by Cassie Graham. The storyline was solid and well thought out. Love the depth and emotion the Cassie put onto the characters. The characters also had some amazing chemistry and truly a beautiful love story.
Sweet, romantic read. My kind of book! Ann is so funny and a bit of a smart ass but easy to like. This book had a great story line and likeable characters.
A story about a chance few encounters between Duane and Ann that take them from lust for one another to solving her dads death, to healing her heart post Kyle, and overcoming his broken childhood.
It includes their support, her 3 best friends, his brother and the love that blooms.
It's a beautiful story after overcoming that sadness. I love that we get to see Liv and Aiden (though I'd love a book about their story), and the story concluded with the birth of their son, and knowing how Aiden & Liv are. Plus Mia.
It's just missing Brent and Jason. Especially Jason
The story rushes in some places and slows down a lot in other spots.
Otherwise I liked it. It was an easy read. And cute
This book is centered on Ann who us trying to find out about her father's death. There is speculation surrounding how he died and she needs answers. She is plagued with nightmares and can't move on until she finds the truth.
In order to get Ann's mind off her nightmares and to give her a reprieve, her friend, Liv takes her out to a bar. It's there that she first lays eyes on Duane. Of course he notices her as well. But, they each leave the bar with out getting names.
Ann decides to hire an attorney to look in to her father's case. The police aren't getting anywhere and she is growing impatient. Duane just happens to be the attorney she hires. This threw me off a bit. Why did she hire an attorney and not a P? I'm not even 100% sure what kind of law he practiced. In addition to being a lawyer, Duane is also a rancher. Ranching is where his real passion lies.
The two try to deny the attraction they have for each other, but as get to know each other better and delve deeper into the case, it gets too hard to ignore. Cassie Graham created very likeable characters and they were all very well developed. Each one had their own distinct personality and filled their role well. The story was also pretty well developed. It had a great flow and kept me interested the whole time. There was a lot of fun, witty dialogue as well. All in all, this book has a lot of elements that I enjoy from a hot cowboy to suspense and mystery.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. Let me start by saying that I read A LOT. IF I am not working or being a mom, I am reading. And I think that is why when I read this book, I felt like I had read it before. To me it is a great story of finding oneself mixed with a little mystery and drama, but it stops short because it feels like a rerun.
Ann has lost everything, her parents, her boyfriend, and moves to a town and denies herself love for over 7 years. Duane (I had a little issue with the name, I keep thinking of “The Rock”) is a farmer/lawyer/singer who literally runs into Ann at a bar. One thing leads to another and Duane shows up at Ann’s house to represent her in the case regarding the death of her father.
The character development for Ann was great, but I wanted more about Duane. He seemed so rugged and loved farm-life, but I wanted to know why he picked law school, when he hated it so much.
The book was told in 2 points of view, which I always like, but it needed more! I wanted more interactions between Ann and Duane, and we needed to hear more from Ann’s bestie Liv! I did find the tension between Ann and Duane very evolving and felt like a real relationship that was condensed from a 3 year courtship down to a week. I mean I think true love and love at first site exists, but getting engaged after a week might be a little too much!
I didn't like this book at all. The first half and the second half are basically two separate books with the same characters. All the little mysteries get solved in the first half and then we are introduced to crazy Lauren who I guess is obsessed with Duane even though it's been three years since they dated. She even works with him, but this is the first time she goes nuts. Seems probable! The cheesiness in this book is over the top. I wanted to barf through most of it. Last, the don't actually have sex until the VERY end of the book. That's fine, but all of a sudden they become different people when they have sex. Their characters take a huge turn which was just odd for me. Where everything was referred to as her core or her center, all of a sudden it's her pussy. Actually, I think the characters didn't change...just the authors speech pattern. Parts of the story were good. I think there were some good ideas in there. Unfortunately, it's as if the author took every idea she had and crammed into one book.
The execution just killed it. The writing and the characters were so sappy sugar sweet my teeth hurt. I'm contemplating a call to my dentist. This couple read like two best girlfriends. Always.....forever.....these two words played over and over until I gagged. I know it was over and over because I skipped 75% of this book, possibly more, just begging for the end. Even with all the skipping, and I'm talking page after page, it just kept going on and on with sappy sweet. I think that dentist visit is too late and my teeth are rotting.
Started off strong and different but then everything happened so fast and then it was over and I still had 40% of the book left to read- where nothing really happened. The obvious quick ex was a small play but literally NOTHING HAPPENED. I also became tired of the extra heavy mush. It felt as though they didn't have conversations anymore except those covered in a flower mush.
This was a cute book. Not the typical story-line, which was good. But overall wasn't overly amazing and it was a bit corny but it was sweet. Dual POV adds an extra bonus.
This story was amazing. It was sweet and fun with a little bit of drama built right in. Ann and Duane melted my heart and had me cheering them on through the entire story. I believe everyone needs a little Ann and Duane in their life.
