5++ stars!

Wings of Desire is hands down one of the best Sci-Fi erotic romances I’ve read this year. Echo works in the lab with a group studying a planet. When they’re attacked, Echo escapes and finds herself rescued by a sentient moth looking alien/monster named Xakiras. The attraction between them runs deeper than simple lust and Xakiras is taking every opportunity to tease and taste Echo.

“Take these off so your sweetness drips onto my face.”

The language barrier between Echo and Xakiras doesn’t last long and thank goodness for that because danger is at every turn. The planet on which they live has many formidable foes. Whenever Echo and Xakiras find peace for a bit, they discover each other in more ways than physical touch. I was hereeeeee for it.

“I will ravage your body until you cannot stand without my help. Your body will be clay in my hands to mold and shape. Do not worry about the pain, little one, I will take care of everything.”

Leona has a beautiful gift of writing vivid description. Her ability to create unique worlds, creatures and hierarchies while still staying true to building an authentic romance is unmatched in my opinion. She’s able to seamlessly weave story and steam and keep me engaged and entertained to the very last word. I feel like I’m actually immersed in this world with our characters and can picture it in my mind as I’m reading.

Her characters are deeply developed with flaws and personalities that feel real despite the shorter length of the story. Xakiras was the perfect alpha male. He balanced dominance, depravity and devotion in a delicious way. I loved when he was pushy without “clipping her wings.”

“You will eat, Otoki. Once you’ve done that, like the good little girl you are, I intend to show you just how good you can be.”

I loved his adoration and obsession with his little bug. Xakiras was a warrior and proud but was not afraid to show vulnerability when he needed to. He believed intimacy was strength and there’s something so passionate about a hero not being emotionally constipated.

“You came from the stars and, out of all the constellations in the sky, to me you shine the brightest of them all.”

Echo was a wonderful heroine. She never pretended to be anything she wasn’t and accepted herself and the budding romance between her and Xakiras. Listen, I love some angst but I also love when the angst comes externally rather than internally. Echo and Xakiras felt solid to me and so I believed in them and their ability to build a life together despite anything and everything that gets thrown at them now and in the future.

Echo fought for herself and Xakiras and they worked as a team in the best ways. Their connection they shared intimately was everything I wanted for the two of them. Sweet at times but rough and filthy at others.

“Do not tempt me in punishing that sweet body of yours for misbehaving. Do not think I will not choke you while I fuck you senseless, just to prove who controls whom.”

What else can I say to convince you to read this? I don’t know. If you’re into Sci-Fi romance with a bit of paranormal undertones, I highly suggest this read. The ending was lovely with the right amount of intrigue left to open the door for so much more in this world. You can tell a lot of thought, story boarding and heart went into creating this because it felt completely fresh. I read this author when she was Opal and she has held true to the way she writes and puts an incredible amount of care and meaning into every sentence she puts to paper. I can’t wait for what’s next!!

What a spicy little alien monster romance novella!
Echo and a team of humans set to work on a planet believing it to be free of sentient life. When their camp is attacked Echo gets separated and has to flee into a forest where she discovers further dangers.
She's saved by a mysterious creature, he's protective and commanding, and she's confused by his unexpected passion towards her, alongside her own heated lust for this alien stranger who sweeps her off her feet - literally.
I loved the worldbuilding in this, it felt like a cross between Avatar and ice Planet barbarians, with different species, monsters and conflicts, and a human V alien brewing romance.
It's an entertaining story with a lot of spice and some quirky body parts!
One to read if you want to know more about a dominant alien with erogenous wings, extra arms, growing parts, and a vibrating tongue that has the hots for his human.

✨"Every bit of his otherworldly beauty holds me captive. I don't know if I can or want to look away from him"

✨"I want her so desperately, and the moment I find us shelter, i'm taking what's mine"

✨"Nothing else besides making your knees quake and hearing your sweet keening sounds as I ravage you like the delicious little thing you are"

✨"You came from the stars and out of all the constellations in the sky, to me you shine the brightest of them all"

✨"I desire you like no other, and no matter what happens from this moment on, I want you ruined for anyone else"

Sexual awakening: horny for mothman
(thanks to this book)

I wasn’t expecting to fall so instantly in love with Xakiras, much like Echo does, but gahhdamn if I’m not head over heels for this 7ft tall, domineering fuzzball. As soon as he said “do not argue with me!” I sat down and shutup!! YES SIR.
I really loved how the language barrier was there but quickly rectified—it’s giving Ice Planet Barbarians, just quicker. The pet names in this book are superior, but I won’t spoil them! They make more sense in the moment lol

Echo’s snark and auto-attitude responses were valid and relatable! Was it weird having an fmc with the same name as my autistic wiener dog? Yeah lmao but I love them both sm that idc 🖤

Recommending this quick read (125 pages on KU) to anyone who likes when their mmc is a bossy (hot), otherworldly (hot) monster (hot).

”This little flower will be mine.”

I had the best time reading this! It was such a fun, fast paced novella with great spice.

The FMC, Echo, is working on another planet when her unit is attacked. She ends up being rescued by one of the friendlier species, a mothman alien named Xakiras. You then follow them as Xakiras makes it his job to keep Echo safe from all the dangers on this planet, and there are a lotttt🤣

If you enjoy alien/monster romance, especially something with similar vibes to ice planet barbarians, then I think you’ll love this too!

As far as Mothman romances, this is one of the best I’ve read. I loved the idea of humans being the invading species on a currently inhabited planet, and despite being completely different species they managed to find love and comparability with one another.

There is almost instant chemistry between our two MCs. And with some questionable interventions they were able to effectively communicate and become involved. The spice is spicy and the plot is fantastic.

It’s a rather short novel with an HEA.

If you like sweet but smutty monster romances where the MMC is overprotective and possessive of his mate then this is for you.

This was a deliciously spicy mothman filled good time.

It's a short quick read, with some world building, and very insta love between a mothman-esque creature and a human woman. I really loved the world building and I'm excited to see more! I liked the characters. Our MMC is a sweet protective and hornyyyyy creature. Our FMC had a little less personality. I wanted a little more from her, she was very damsel in distress.

But I enjoyed the story! The spice was top tier. I am VERY curious about that peen situation 👀👀

Like 3.5, it was okay, like the background story, it’s a great set up for the *possible* future duology. But hated how romantic and lovey-dovey they got so quickly. Like hey so you’ve known each other for 5 days why are you saying I love you and claiming each other as mates. That’s insane.

I did not get very far in this book. I think I DNF it about 30% or more. I honestly can say that it didn't hit right for me. I hated how the MMC was so disgusted by her and then did a whole 360 but still found parks of her ugly. That was uncomfortable for me. I also did not enjoy the dialogue. It felt bland to me. So, I give it a two/five stars. It was not for me but maybe it will be for someone else.

The start was wild, Echo our FMC was exploring a new planet when a violent species from that planet attacked her. While escaping, she was trapped by a wild plant and rescued by Xakira, our MMC. I'll just say they had a lot of fun together 🌶️, fin.

This was a sweet and quick read, the characters are good and the world is crazy. Like the whole planet is trying to eat our fmc, literally lol. If you want a short, spicy book with aliens then this is the book for you, I like it so I recommend it. Also, the cover and the aliens? just gorgeous.

You guys! I am SCREAMING! This was Leona Wilde’s debut novella? Stop it right now, because she gave me the most delicious mothman monster romance I didn’t even know I needed. Yes, mothman. Did I know I had a thing for a man that’s part moth? Nope. Do I now? Yup *popping that p* Seriously, I mean…I now know what it means to touch a mothman’s wings and let’s just say I’ve got my spirit fingers ready to go 😂

🖤MF Monster Romance
⚔️Warrior MMC with Daddy Dom Vibes
💜Intelligent & Curvy FMC
⚔️Touch Her & 💀
🖤Special 🍆 & “Take all of me”
⚔️Warnings/Light Punishment 🤭
💜“Little Bug” & “Life of My Life”
⚔️“Mine”

Echo is a lab assistant who is part of the USS Peony, a team responsible for terraforming Azgul – a planet without suns that was thought to be without sentient life. When Echo’s team gets attacked, she finds herself in the very capable hands (seriously, he’s got more than two) of Xakiras. Who knew that a delicate caress of Xakiras’ wings would communicate more than she intended 🤭

Xakiras is a fierce warrior and protector and he never expected to rescue his tasty little bug. Echo is loud, feisty, and everything he’s ever wanted in a mate, and he will stop at nothing to keep her safe from the dangers of his world…especially when she communicates she wants more by touching his wings.

But…on Azgul, most creatures and wildlife are out to eat you and war is on the horizon. Echo knows her people won’t stand for the violence that took place at her camp…but will her people be allies with Xakiras’ or will each of their duties get in the way of their chance at happiness?

I devoured this novella in one sitting! This was fast-paced, high-action, and a cute insta-lust to love story! I ATE UP Xakiras’ BDE and his penchant for being in control when it came to protecting his little bug, as well as delivering her pleasure. Let me tell you, the SPICE is SPICING! I cannot wait for more of Echo & Xakiras’ story to unfold!

If you're looking for a fast-paced, spicy romance with a dommy Mothman alien this is for you! The world is a crazy place (the action was non-stop for poor Echo) and there seems to be a lot of history and cultural politics that we'll get to know more about in future books.

There were a few things that just weren't just my vibe. There's a lot of dom/sub play between the two of them but there wasn't a lot of discussion about what they were comfortable with beforehand. Although some moments Xakiras does check in with her. But I personally don't really enjoy spicy scenes where the FMC feels a lot of pain and describes having to "disassociate to a place where I feel hollow" and "the numbness feels safe". I was also a little uncomfortable with the descriptions of the other species on the planet. One species was treated horribly by the moth race and described as basically slaves. I hope in future books we learn more about that group and they are treated better. Another species was described by the MC as being "predators that are unable to feel remorse for their actions and are unintelligent" but the species were able to speak and communicate with the MMC so not sure what it was meant by them being unintelligent?

This was a short introduction into a bigger series so maybe some of these questions will be answered in future books.

I loved how protective Xakiras was of Echo. Can I be flown around by a fluffy Mothman alien? Enjoyed the found family vibe he had with his hunting party. I was giggling at them teasing him for getting stung by the scorpion monster. Poor guy.

"You came from the stars, and out of all the constellations in the sky, to me you shine the brightest of them all."

I would melt if a moth looking alien man said those words to me. Let me just start with that.

This is a prequel novella, and it does end on a cliffhanger, so if you don't like cliffhangers - keep that in mind. I believe it was said that it is going to lead up to a duet that takes place in the same world with the same characters.

Echo and Xakiras aren't quite fated mates, but Xakiras chooses Echo as his mate despite being from different worlds, and being different races. The he chooses her is so wholesome too. Now there is plenty of the book that isn't wholesome though, so keep that in mind. Those wings are quite... sensitive to touch if you're picking up what I'm putting down.

Both Echo and Xakiras must be transparent with their governments about what has happened and neither side can know truly about the nature of their relationship. But what will happen when their worlds truly collide? Will their relationship survive? These are the types of questions left unanswered with the cliffhanger. Echo's team was killed by another race of aliens, and she had to tell her team about it, which went back to the government. Xakiras had to do the same thing, and his team isn't trusting of Echo either. They are both currently in really tricky spots, and unsure of how things will go.

But the one thing they are sure of? Each other. They chose each other and I know they will do whatever they can to make things work.

I cannot wait to see how the story continues. I am beyond intrigued!

This book was such a ride, I'm obsessed! It's short but full of action, suspense, sexual tension, and spice.

Xakiras was top-tier alien boyfriend, and Echo couldn't keep her hands off him, which got her into all sorts of delicious trouble. I mean, who could blame her? A 7ft tall, gorgeous, sweet-smelling, four-armed, winged creature would be pretty hard to resist in my opinion.
Xakiras might have been frustrated with Echo at first but she was able to bring out the sweet loving male from under that protective and bossy layer.
I love that he calls her "little bug" and ends up completely obsessed with her, even though he found her annoying and strange-looking at first.

When they were not busy escaping the billions of hostile creatures inhabiting Azgul, they were busy exploring each other and it was hot! The spice was spicing; there was dirty talking, a vibrating tongue, numbing cūm, a growing appendage, and did I mention the four hands?

The story kept me on my toes, I enjoyed every second of it. I might have internally screamed when it ended on a cliffhanger though, because I want more. I definitely recommend it if you're into hot alien males with interesting attributes who are obsessed with their girl, plus-sized FMCs, action-packed novellas that you can read in one sitting, and good spice.

I came expecting fun monster/ moth smut and was not disappointed!! Our FMC Echo is on a mission with her team to explore a planet to see if it was habitable, they were not expecting to land on a planet with sentient beings that represent bugs. After her team is attacked by scorpion like creatures Echo is rescued by our MMC Xakiras who is a being that looks similar to a lunar moth.
I loved the initial language barrier between the two and how he gives her a translator kind of similar to the Khui in Ice Planet Barbarians. I also loved how this gave similar sci-fi vibes to Swallowed by Meg Smitherman. I think if you’re looking for something with those types of vibes you need to pick this book up! This book is the prequel to a series so I am super excited to see what happens next!

Okay so the story itself wasn't bad, but i did have a few issues.

To start, Echo was annoying. I found that she was extremely naive, and acted quite immature even though she was supposedly an adult. Constantly screaming and crying, and because she was so naive she'd start arguing because she was too uneducated to comprehend and therefore would lash out as a defense.

I didn't find that there was much of a connection between Echo and Xakaris. They only knew each other a few days, not even having legitimate conversation other than Echo constantly being petulant, and yet somehow they fall in love?

The fact that Echo was part of a space expedition, that supposedly has high tech enough to have spaceships and plan to terraform a planet... yet somehow they were completely ignorant to the fact that said planet had sentient life on it? That just seemed like the dumbest thing.

Also, i think that if you're gonna commission someone to draw your cover art then it should at least be accurate, which it's not. While Xakaris is white, yes, he also has four arms and pale green wings with eyes on them like a luna moth... the cover art doesn't fit that description, completely missing a set kf arms and portraying the wings as greyish.

It wasn't the worst book, but I think it could've been better.

I have to say i think i am officially in love with mothmen. This is my 2nd mothman book in a row in the month of march 2025. This story needed in a cliff hanger, and i knew it, and i still wanted there to be more I want so desperately for the love story between echo and Xakiras to continue. Alas, for now, we will not know what happens next in their story.
I really liked getting to see Echo from Xakiras’ point of view, and learning a bit of what he’s thinking when he’s not burying his face, or other parts of himself, between her thighs. I also really like the fact that he broke tradition with her, and stood his ground on that decision.
There were a couple of times echo seemed to be a bit whiny, or perhaps not fully polished as a character, but seeing as this story was an expanded version written for an anthology, and is a prequel novella, having slightly under developed characters isn’t something that i am letting effect my rating of the story.
as a whole, i am a sucker for the micro trope of not being able to communicate at first when it comes to alien/ sci-fi romances. I will also always Stan a love interest that is borderline obsessed with the main character once they have a taste of them.

"Wings of Desire" is a mesmerizing story that combines science fiction with the intensity of a forbidden romance. Echo, a human lab assistant stationed on an alien planet, finds herself rescued from an attack on her camp by Xakiras, a captivating Nocris warrior.

Once rescued, Echo begins to try and understand the complexities of her emotions towards a being so different from her own kind. Xakiras, with his striking wings and feather-like tendrils, embodies both the fierce strength and gentle tenderness that define his race.

Their relationship challenges the norms of both races as each views the other as an outsider. Leona wonderfully crafts a vivid world, filled with such rich descriptions and jaw dropping spice that it makes for an enthralling read for anyone seeking a unique and heartwarming monster romance.

I am ready for book 2 to see where their story continues.....

This was a steamy and fun read with lots of insta-lust. We have Echo and Xakiras, who meet when he rescues her from a near death experience. There was a brief moment of a language barrier, but that was quickly solved. Xakiras is a dommy mothman alien who becomes Echo's protector during the story. I wish there would have been more of a discussion on consent and boundaries, but it is established that Echo likes his actions. I did like their out of the bedroom interactions; they were quite sweet. I did not realize this was a prequel, so it was expected to be short and surface-level. I did not realize that this was the case going into it and did not expect it would end in a cliff hanger. That being said, I did enjoy it overall and would like to read more of the series to come. The story to come should be really interesting! Also a really good first release from Leona!

I wanted desperately to enjoy this. It sounded perfect. I was just left…meh.
There are bits and pieces I really liked.
The erotic scenes are probably the better part of the book. Some of the best dialogue and lines are from when the MCs are naked. But I’m not totally sold on the dynamic. Dom/sub? Excellent. “Disassociating to a place where [you] felt hollow” being the only reason you can continue having sex? Girl.
I liked how protective Xakiras became of Echo, and how even though she realized she needed him to be protective, she was still going to be strong.
I’m hopeful for the future of these books. Since this novella is meant to be a prequel for a duet, I tried not to get too hung up on whether I could parse out the politics or history of the planet. That will come with time, I’m sure.

Leona had me sold at alien mothman with a vibrating tongue and absolutely delivered! This novella was fast-paced, steamy, and packed with action from the start. Echo is a human working on an alien planet. When her camp is attacked, a beautiful mothman, Xakiras, swoops in and whisks her away to safety, at least for a moment as the world of Azgul is anything but safe. Things start heating up from there as their attraction to each other grows, and they fight to survive.
The spice is HOT and heavy on dom/sub play and just waittt until you learn about the 🍆 situation because it is probably one of my favorite ones I've come across!

I this novella is a prequel to a future duology, and I absolutely can not wait for more of the world of Azgul!

Expect:
💜 Erogenous wings

💜 Numbing 💦

I did enjoy this story I love the characters and their passion for each other is so sweet, it was a nice change with the monster this time him being a moth man type of creature. The Author made him beautifully I love all the details about him and the very Alien world he lives on. I will say I feel like the plot got lost in the spice scenes as I feel like there were more spice scenes then there was the actual story line. I would have liked to see more about them getting to know each other and the MFC learning about her planet she now calls home.

This little monster romance is a spicy quick read where our alien FMC is stranded on an unknown planet where she meets her monster MMC who saves her from the bad guys or rather the bad creatures and she learns she's the only survivor...

Amidst all the gory scenarios, we have some super spicy and a few action scenes.. there is some airborne stuff (he's winged after all) and tree houses and huts and camps!

It was a fun, quick read! And I'm grateful to the author and FlyingPigPR for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review! ThankkYouu sm!💕

Wings of Desire is a sci-fi romance set on a planet brimming with sentient life, much to the surprise of our FMC and her team. Echo is a fighter, she’s lost her best friend and is stranded in a completely new space and on top of that she’s gained some scary moth privilege in the form of Xakiras. Xakiras is a Noctis, a big furry mothman who would do anything to protect what’s his. Wings of Desire was an enchanting and engaging read set on a lore-rich planet with interesting fauna and flora alike! I’m very intrigued to see where Xakiras and Echo go next - especially with the dangers of the plot

This prequel grabbed my attention and never let go. Echo and her team are on a planet with the hopes that humans can live there. When the humans become prey Echo finds herself in the arms of a moth man alien. She demands to be taken back but the alien refuses. Xakiras thinks of the human as a bug. She is weak, lacking any protection, and looks weird. Despite his initial thoughts Xakiras quickly becomes obsessed with Echo. He is determined to protect her and he proves this multiple times. The sexual tension was great and I loved the world building. This is a short novella prequel so it does end on a cliff hanger. This was a spicy, and intriguing introduction to this world and couple. I'm looking forward to seeing where this story goes.

Ok ok ok. My first monster romance. Did I love it? Ehhh. (Look it was good, I just don’t know if I’m a monster romance girly but those of you that are, I fully support and encourage this fully) Was the writing and story good? 1000000% YES!

Leona Wilde is a phenomenal author and I absolutely loved her descriptive writing. It was easy to imagine exactly what she envisioned.

Xakiras and Echo go from strangers to VERY intimate, overcoming the language barrier in a way that would make the Duolingo owl very happy.

It’s a very short read, super fun if you’re into the sci-fi / monster/ human trope. So if you need something quick and fun, go for it! 🖤

A really cool mix of sci fi and fantasy, this was a fast paced and steamy alien romance. Really intrigued by the different species and the world and I enjoyed the relationship between Echo and Xakiras. Definitely intrigued as to where this will go as it is a prequel novella for an upcoming duology.

I have been on a mothman romance kick lately and I not only enjoyed the spice of this one but the plot as well! the fact that our fmc is plus size as well is just an added bonus!

Sci-fi world with killer species and moth like hero's. I loved the world that the author has created and I cannot wait to see how much more the world grows with each book.

I really enjoyed this book, the only reason I’m giving it 4.5stars is I feel like something was missing. But I’m not really sure what, I think it was something with Echo.
But this was such a unique novella for me, and the world and creatures were amazing! The details of Xakiras description was amazing! Absolutely loved the imagery of him!
