Mary Campisi is the author of over 40 emotion-packed novels that center around hope, redemption, and second chances.
Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.
When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab, Henry, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley.
Mary Campisi has done it again with this 3rd book in the Family affair series... This is the story of Daniel "Cash" Cashendon and Tess Carrick...they parted under such traumatic and sad circumstances 8 years previous just before their marriage it turned their world upside down... neither had forgotten each other.. they still loved each other.. even if they did deny it to themselves.. so much heartache and tears.. hurt and anger had been in their lives.. so many harsh words said before they parted.. they were both running away.. was it time to stop running away and run to each other?? Could they ever learn to trust.. forgive.. Put the hurt behind them... With the rest of the town determined that this couple should be together Pop Benito leading them all to make this happen.. but could they do it?? would it all end in heartache again... I cried like a baby reading this book.. I have loved every one of Mary's books.. this one seems to have stuck in my heart.. If you want to know the outcome of the story you have to read it... I detest spoilers and will not give the story away.. I would love to give it more than 5 stars.. I recommend this book so much.. Mary Campisi is among my all time favourite authors.. make her one of yours please
I don't know any other author who can make me love fictional characters and an entire fictional town like mary campisi. this is book three of this series and this time it was not focused on the main characters of nate and Christine. I wasn't sure I was going to like this one because of it but I ended up loving these two just as much. Tess and Cash are the focus. they were to be married and tragedy tore them apart. years later it will be bad luck and a little scheming that throws them together again. when the town's "godfather" pop Benito here's about this he gets the whole town to help get these love birds through the hurt and anger and back on the track to happily ever after. read this and you won't be disappointed. I for one can't wait for book four.
I think I'm getting fed up with these books now, or maybe it's because I've read several soppy books in a row.
Little things start to get on my nerves like The girls "sipping" air and the guys "sucking" it. Surely she could come up with less annoying description for breathing.
Why the repetition? Yawn.
The book took a turn for the super naff when Nate sat at the piano and they all sung along to "I will always love you". Whyyyyyy?
I do like this series, but it kind of reminds me of stories I used to read as a kid. Young adult romance, or almost even Christian romance. Hallmark channel, the whole town getting together to root for a couple. A little hokey.
Ever since running into this series years ago I have enjoyed many of the titles in the series. Although this book main characters were Cash and Tess I loved that I was able to catch up with Christine and Nate from the previous books. Cash and Tess were the sweetheart couple of Magdalena. When they first set eyes on each other its like no one else existed. The story starts with their love and Tess trying on her wedding dress when in a short time tragedy strikes and Cash and Tess was no longer. The novel fast forward eight years later and both individuals although living separate lives are still hurting of what could have been their lives from years ago. Ms. Campisi Family series has a way of drawing you in and weaving a place in your heart and this was one is no different as always with her novels they are emotionally charged, reminiscence wholesome and just chuck full of a town and lovers who are striving to be their better self.
Read and Cash get their own story. O!ivia, Will and Ramona all have own issues to work through as well as ones to work through together. Secrets of the past and present are revealed. Gloria has either come to some great epiphanies or is up to her old manipulating ways in her last several months.
The truth in the lies of the past and present come forth a d the lies in the truth that may be there are always revealed in the end.
Another amazing read in a fabulous series. Looking forward to what is to come and more Li!y, Pop and the gang. Did someone say Gina might be pursued? Nah, that can't be. She has sworn off men. And what is up with Olivia? Hmmmm...
I think this author set about finding the absolute worst narrators that she could find and used them for her books. I thought the woman who did the first two books was bad and was looking forward to a new narrator for this book. Well, silly me. This guy was absolutely horrible. His women's voices were laughable. They all sounded like aging southern bells from the civil war era. I honestly can't even really say what the story was about because his narration was so awful. I think it was a second chance romance years later or something to that effect.
Thankfully I borrowed it from the library and didn't buy it or I would have been really upset.
‘A Family Affair: Summer’ was touching. Its plot was filled with anticipation of a wedding, a tragic accident, secrets, heartache, giving up on dreams, moving on, interesting family dynamics, reconnecting, reconciling, happening upon a letter, a confrontation, some well-meaning busy-bodies, having a heart-to-heart talk, and love. Furthermore, Tess and Cash, the protagonists, were ideally suited for each other despite their baggage. I kept rooting for them. Additionally, I liked the author’s vivid details including imagery, bits of humor, and down-to-earth word choices that created a heartfelt tone. Overall, I liked the moving narrative.
I found that I often did not like Cash, the male protagonist. His anger at the thought that maybe Tess had had another relationship in the eight years since they broke up is selfish given his behaviour and series of one night stands. Additionally, he was angry at her not telling him about her pregnancy when she had sent him a letter but his aunt had sent it back; plus the idea that he would be angry that she was unlikely to be able to have further children after she lost the first, is so unfair. Having said that, I did like the other characters, and Cash was a decent bloke otherwise.
This is one of the Magdalina stories; this opens Years ago, 3 days before their wedding, her troubled brother robs a convenience store and pulls a gun on her fiance cop who promptly shoots him, not realizing who he has shot. She blames him; town takes sides; she leaves town but the life she builds is now crumbling under her and she might return to Magdalina. That’s just the opening. He get shot again and also returns to town. Now the town works together to bring them back together. (Feel free to skip Chapters 11 and 12 as they are an update of Christine and Nate’s story.)
I always look forward to the next book in the Family Affair series. I love catching up on the previous characters, seeing what's going on in their lives. Then on to a new adventure in another episode. This book was especially interesting with the trauma between Tess and Cash. Their story was very complicated. Can't wait to read the next book.
This story focuses on a couple who split up just before they married 8 years ago. Over and over you read about how much they still love each other but haven’t been home in 8 years. Then when they are in the same place, you read about how they avoid each other, though the love is still there……. Over and over. Not much plot, not much character development. Not that interesting.
Lousy editing. There is no warning that you need to read other books before, the scenes are interrupted giving way to others without connection, there is no definition if the story is Cash and Tess or Nate and Christine. It gives the impression that the texts are randomly cut, so that the book is not too long. I couldn't finish it, something I'm not used to doing, but this book sucked, I hated it!!! One star is too much !! It should be ZERO STAR.
Another delightful read. The same characters that we have grown to love and some new ones ae present. This is a tragic story of love lost and then found. It has a unique plot for the matter of the lost love. This book I also checked out from the library. The writing is true to form and while one could read this as a stand alone, I don't recommend doing that.
I love a plot with unexpected twists and turns, and this book has enough to keep things interesting. Secrets, tragedies, and other bits of melodrama are also featured. I appreciate the ethnic names and details; too many romances sound as tho almist all white Americans come from the British Isles. Well worth reading.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was a male, but when he did female voices it was like listening to nails on a chalkboard!! The story line was ok, but a bit annoying how the town is so wrapped up in the business of one couple who have been broke up for 8 years. A bit far fetched and over the top.
This is a close knit town where everybody knows everybody’s business..This is an interesting look at a small town. Great story! I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
This story just drug me right in! You wind up immersed in all the characters lives and personalities. The author brings them right into your life and you can't wait to see what happens next. Just loved this story! Terrie Stamey
The small town of Magdalena N.Y. Has residents who seem to ignore social boundaries to influence each other. This book is focussing mostly on Ted's and Cash who have returned after 8 years apart. Nate and Christine are also featured.
I truly enjoyed this book and am very jealous that I don't live in a small town!! Enjoyed all the characters and the story each had and the love for each other and all the troubles coming and getting straighten out!! Next book for me!!
Tess and Cash were days away from marriage when tragedy struck. But when the whole town is plotting to reunite them eight years later, love is in the air.
As always, sequels become less and less interesting. Small “explanations” of what happened to characters in earlier novels, now part of sidelines. Adding new protagonists with a supposedly convincing drama of what happened ... and less convincing of how we get back together again. I liked the first book but the two subsequent ones come nowhere close to the first. I call this TV-episode syndrom : one has to continue the story whatever it takes, adding new characters, with some glimpsies of the old ones. It’s not literature, it is screen writing.
Kinda boring to much romance stuff for my taste. No drama nothing to hold my attention. We knew they would end up together so get on with the story ...made me lose interest in the series 🤷♀️
