What a disappointment. I'm a huge fan of the "do penguins have knees" series, with small science bits of all sorts of random trivia. That's just so perfect read between anything else, and while deciding what to read next.
The best part of this book was the cover (pretty green, and cute bunnies). The font for the questions in the book was also cute. The graphics and a nice feel of the book raised my rating of the book to 1,75 stars.
Unfortunately, nomen est omen for what comes to the content of the book. Pretty much. Nothing worth reading once you realize everything is just made up. Nothing is reliable. Fine, I should have read the fine print on the back, but maybe the title and the cute bunnies eating excrement with a fork on the cover got my attention first. Yes, it does indeed say "what you find is plenty of nonsense, lots of lies, and just enough truth to make you doubleckec the 'facts' with a reliable source." Maybe if I was the type of person who likes to habitually read and write in Uncyclopedia or Conservapedia, then maybe I could have liked the book, or found it funny or something. There was about one funny question in the book. The rest is just pure rubbish.
Now, would anything eat this book if you compost it?
When I picked this up I figured it was a legitimate book that answered disgusting questions. Then when I realized that 50-75% of each answer was blatantly false I kept reading under the impression the made-up answers would at least be funny. Nope.
I suppose the book was interesting enough to keep me reading it because I was curious about whether any of it would at least elicit a chuckle from me. That did not happen. I usually love British humour but that was just not the case here. It felt like they were aiming for the randomness of Monty Python but they couldn't capture the funniness that comes with MP's randomness. Maybe I just wasn't the target audience (maybe British middle schoolers are the intended readers?) but even then I can't honestly recommend this.
