Quake-powered time travel...

Tarawera, 1886. Napier, 1931. The formation of Rangitoto Island. The Waimangu Geyser.

Deadly eruptions and earthquakes dot New Zealand's history. When an ancient artefact opens a portal, Anira, Tiger, and the Earthcore team are scattered into dangerous events of the past.

Their abilities and knowledge of history give them the power to survive—but can they change the past, or save lives they know were lost?

Meanwhile, Manaia realises stepping through time might lead to her lost husband, and sets out into the past to seek her young son’s father.

All their powers will be called on to fulfil what the guardians ask. If they can find the the right place and time, they might just become part of a legend.

I enjoyed the time-travel aspects of this Earthcore book. I also enjoyed getting an understanding of Manaia's history. Her story is the most fleshed out in this book, but the other members of the multi-generational team all have a role to play. A little subtle humor is always a nice plus and tidbits like time-traveling with a baby in a pram, as well as an ordinary cat with superpowers lighten the dangers of their adventures between disasters. You will just have to read the book to find out about fairy penguins.
