Gods of Myth #1

Hades and Persephone - Keeper of Sins

Rate this book
For new adult and adult fantasy book lovers comes a new spicy gods romantasy packed with banter and chemistry featuring a reimagined tale of the ancient myth of Hades and Persephone.

What if the myth of Hades and Persephone isn’t just myth? And what if there is more to the story?

Hades
The story the world knows today is only a fraction of our truth. Mine and hers.
I took her, yes. I schemed and deceived to keep her.
I loved her wholly and completely. Selfishly.
She loved me…
Lore tells the tale of an eternity of love, and it’s not wrong. But the eternity has not been one of bliss. Betrayed in the worst way, my wife was stolen from me—and my eternity of love has been spent searching the world for her reborn soul.
The Underworld suffers in her absence. I suffer…
Now she is back. Just in time for an Olympian war.
The clock is ticking. Her human body makes her vulnerable to vengeful Gods.
I must find a way to possess her heart so that I may protect her eternal soul.
But the more time I spend with her, the more I come to think there is a darker truth to the story of our past. More to the story of her end.
For there are some secrets that are worth killing for.

Persephone
Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve heard a voice in my mind. A man’s voice. Filled with anguish and rage. The doctors threatened a personality disorder while my parents eyed me with horror. I learned to hide the voice, to fit in.
For years, I’ve kept the secret of the man who screams my name from everyone in my life.
With a name like Persephone, it’s no surprise I’m attracted to Greek lore, or to a career in unearthing the secrets of an ancient past. It’s because of this attraction that I’m on my way to Greece now.
Or am I chasing a voice only I can hear across the globe?

The Gods of Myth Series is now complete.

Born and raised in Alberta, Canada, Alannah Carbonneau is only a short drive away from the Rocky Mountains that have a staring place in so many of her novels. With seventeen novels and counting currently available on Amazon, Alannah is not only a full-time author, but a full-time mom of two beautiful boys, and wife to an amazing man who always has her back. She lives in a rambling ranch house that needs way too many renos and has one too many cats, but she is happy and in love.

With a solid circle of friends and family, and a very manly, supportive husband who does his best to make sure his family is taken care of, Alannah’s novels feature manly men (sometimes they can be a LOT manly) and friend/family relationships weaved into the stories, because life is about a whole mess of people, and although this is fiction, the best fiction is sprinkled with sweet (and sometimes not so sweet) bits of reality.

Because she loves romance, Alannah writes Contemporary and New Adult Romance. Soon to be released is the Creekwood Valley Series that has ties to the reader beloved Donnelley Brother Series, where light suspense and romance weave to create titillating stories that not only steal your heart but keep you on the edge of your seat. She is the author of the highly rated Teach Me Series, an emotional read about love, life and lessons learned. Our Dark Design is a standalone erotic romance peppered with enough suspense to keep you turning the pages, and The Choice is an entirely unconventional standalone romance about three.

She is currently working on a Cross World Fantasy Romance Series for Adults she can’t wait to share with you, because this will feature hot men who are a little bit dominant and a lot protective who are head over heels in love with stubborn, magnificent women.

When Alannah isn’t writing or spending time with her three men, she can be found in her garden, or with a paint brush in hand. But no matter where she is or what she’s doing, you can bet that she’s thinking of a love story she can share with you.

And the fact that we are two, feels universally wrong when I am certain we were made to stand as one.

I truly felt their connection, his deep love to her and her pull towards him. Her soul still remembers Hades even when she wasn't supposed to (loooved those moments).
I'd say this book is way too descriptive sometimes and I had hard time to push through some pages. But overall the story is so lovely and I was feeling mythical so it's a "yes" for me.

It's a really good story and to be honest it didn't make that much difference to me that it was a re-telling as I didn't really know much about Hades and Persephone anyway.

Persephone - 19 years old from Alberta Canada hears a voice calling her name from a small age. The poor girl gets fed up of test and stuff so she tell her parents that she doesn't hear the voice anymore and everyone things that she just had an imaginary friend. She developed a love for Greek Mythology and Archaeology. So when a change to go to Greece for a dig comes up she jumps at the chance. Her parents don't want her to go so she flings all her savings money on the trip. I did leave me wondering if her parents know she is the reincarnation of the Goddess Persephone.

Hades - seemingly 36 years old owns a nightclub and is a tortured artist. Although it turns out the artwork is actually his way of imprisoning people. He's been stuck for eon's trying to find the soul of his lost love that was tragically murder by her own mother. His mission is to find Persephone and make her fall in love with him so that history doesn't repeat itself.

I do love the fact that she is oblivious to who she is. Granted the way she was murdered originally completely wiped her memory but the fact that she's into the mythology and only thinks it a coincidence that's she's meet 3 people with mythological names.

It does end of a cliff-hanger but it does pretty much end with her agreeing to see were things go and I think she's just hoping to go home to Canada in 3 month with a lot more life experience that she left with. I think the only way she is leaving Greece is if she is going to the underworld with him.

I’m in love with anything Hades and Persephone, and Keeper of Sins just hit all the right notes! Alannah Carbonneau brings a beautifully dark, seductive twist to this timeless story, filling it with longing, possessiveness, and a love that defies eternity.

Persephone has been haunted by an anguished voice calling her name since she was young, a voice filled with desperate rage and endless sorrow. It’s a connection that pulls her all the way to Greece, where she encounters Hades, the brooding God of the Underworld, who has waited lifetimes to find her again. This book is everything I adore in dark romance: consuming love, an air of danger, and intense, steamy scenes. Hades’ obsession with Persephone leaps off the page, and I loved every minute of it.

Some of my absolute fave quotes:

• Persephone’s voice echoes his longing: “I’ve always been so fascinated with his obsession of her, and how it drove him to claim her—even against her will. I’ve dreamed of a love like that, dark and consuming, that takes everything and gives back even more.” This passage is such a beautiful look into her inner world, hinting at a desire she doesn’t fully understand.
• “Her body knows what her mind can’t yet accept. That she is mine. That she belongs with me,” Hades says, reflecting a possessiveness that feels almost overwhelming. Just ughhhh I love it! Gimme more!!!

Carbonneau’s writing is lush and atmospheric, perfectly matching the story’s mythological backdrop. The romance is intense, with plenty of adult themes - iykyk😉, that just added to the story’s depth and passion. For anyone who loves mythological retellings filled with dark romance and a hint of danger, this is a must-read. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next!

Thank you to Book Sirens and Alannah Carbonneau for an eARC of this book.

Wow. I loved it. This is a second chance story between Hades and Persephone. Persephone was murdered by her own mother to get her away from Hades, and his soul has been screaming for her for centuries. While finally in Canada, a girl was born who had been hearing a man’s anguished voice saying her name for as long as she can remember. She even thinks she’s mad, because no one else can hear him. The way they are finally reintroduced, and all that transpires throughout this book has me just wanting the second one, even before this one has been published. (I believe this will release on Oct 24.) I’ve read many Hades and Persephone retellings, and this one is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Why this book has such a high rating, I’ll never know.
What happens in this book you ask? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Love a Hades and Persephone book, but this was so bad. The writing was basic, and it was such a wet wipe of a plot.

I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite Alannah Carbonneau book. Hades and Persephone retellings have become so common it's almost a cliché at this point. Then, Audrey, why did you request the ARC? To be truthful, I wanted to test if I could still request books on BookSirens (a lot of authors weren't letting me download their books because I had rated their previous books 3 stars, or wanted me to finish the books I had) and because I like Alannah's books.

The premise of this Hades Persephone retelling is that Persephone's been reincarnated in the soul of a 19-year-old girl from Alberta, Canada (where the author's from). She's heard this voice calling her name her whole life, and she follows it to an archeology program in Greece, where she meets the mysterious, handsome, wealthy Hades. Hades hires her to keep him company, but he's trying to get her to fall in love with him to come with him willingly to save the Underworld, which is dying.

I was surprised that by the end of this book, Persephone still didn't know who she was. I wondered if her mortal mother was the goddess Demeter. I was so into Greek mythology as a kid, and I never liked Hades all that much. However, I liked him a lot more in this book. I liked how fixated he was on Persephone rather than Zeus who couldn't keep it in his pants. If you think about it, Persephone is Hades's niece both ways, LOL. Love how that wasn't mentioned once in this book.

Persephone was sweet but kind of boring. I felt like Hades was only so infatuated with her because she's the reincarnation of his wife and contains the soul of the goddess Persephone. I wonder if anything will be done with the reincarnation of Adonis, Addison. Like will he get his own book?

This book was a slowburn, though very sensual. The book ends with Persephone still being a virgin, as Hades wants her to be in love with him like he is with her before they do that.

Thanks to the author and BookSirens for this ARC! In no way has this affected my review or rating.

'Something inside me quivers because until this very moment, I've never before felt as though I were the prey. I think I might like it. '

This was a nice book. I am a sucker for Greek mythology, especially Hades & Persephone retellings. I liked this authors take on their story. I just wish it wasn't a multi part book series. it could easily bee done all in 1 book, since the first book is pretty short. I wouldn't say that it ends on a cliffhanger, but more just fine a nice place to stop. but again, I wish it was all just one decent sized book instead of multiple short books. that's just me though.

The only thing that I didn't like about the book was when they refer to a certain body part as a 'pipe'. it just gives the the ick and kills the moment for me. other than that is a good book and I can't wait to continue the story with book 2.

It has potential

Nothing happens in this book. Girl meets guy, they dance around mutual but unspoken feelings, book ends. I have a feeling this entire series could be condensed into one 500 page book and it would be better off.

I also can’t tell if this is AI or needs another pass at editing. Featuring phrases such as “blades of sand,” “sting of hot heat,” and “plush green blanket of soft green” to name a few.

Hades and Persephone is a very popular topic right now. This modern version of it is an interesting premise. I just wish it were fleshed out better.

The first quarter of the book is a copy and paste A touch of Darkness. This book would have gotten 5 stars if there was some more originality. The author clearly read A Touch of Darkness first then wrote this book.

I do like the idea of a Euro trip and fate bringing the two together and how the author had their relationship evolves. It does tend to drag on and sometimes you get lost.

What a surprise this was. I have read Alannah’s work before and found I really enjoyed most of it, but none of it was in the paranormal genre. I have found that I don’t enjoy everyone’s style of paranormal but I think Allannah’s done a great job with her retelling of Hades and Persephone.

This tells the story of Hades and Persephone finding each other again after Persephone was taken from Hades and the Fates destined them to find each other again.

It takes parts of the Greek myth and Alannah’s unique spin on it to turn it into a great story.

I can’t wait for the second book to come out.
.
.
.
Persephone has been hearing the voice in her head since she was a child. It’s an anguished voice calling for her. After seeing the stress it caused her family and community she decided it smarter to keep the voice to herself but lately, the voice is calling to her more and more.

Now she is leaving her small life behind in Alberta, Canada to experience a summer in Greece studying the ancient world and Greek mythology. The mythology she has loved since a teen has called to her since discovering it.

Since arriving in Greece she has felt a sense of freedom, joy, and peace. She’s never felt before.

Hades has been missing the other half of him since the moment that Persephone was taken. From him. he has searched for her for so many years that he’s wondered if he would ever find her reborn soul again.

When he’s alerted that she’s been found his inner god demands that he once again steal her away and take her back to the underworld. But the human side he’s been hiding in while searching for her knows that this time he has to do things differently.
‘No, now that I’ve found her, I will not rest until I possess all the parts of her. Until the soul I’ve loved for eternity is stitched to the very fabric that weaves mine, knotted in such a way that even the Fates cannot unravel the ties that bind us.’

Persephone can’t explain the pull to the rich older man and the fact that they are named Hades and Persephone seems to be an unusual coincidence but at the same time feels right.

Getting mixed up with her new boss is sure to be a mistake and lead to complications that she doesn't need but resisting him seems impossible.
‘I think his words are supposed to assure me, but instead, I can’t help but read the underlying promise within them. The delicious threat. The dark assurance that it’s only a matter of time before this man devours my virtue, corrupting all of me until I’m so wound up in the darkness of him, I won’t be able to unthread the knots we foolishly weave.’

Hades knows he has his queen by his side he just needs the time to. make her fall in love with him again and hopefully gain her trust so that she will give him something that will stop anyone from taking her from him ever again.

Happy Reading.

As a person who spent an inordinate amount of time as a teen devouring every Greek myth (as well as taking Latin and a Classical Mythology class in high school), I have always been obsessed with modern retellings of the stories. THIS is how you do it!!

I have only read one other book by Alannah Carbonneau and it was very mid for me, but I picked this up because it was SO different from Keeping Ruby's Mafia story that I thought, "why not?". Well, why has the second book in this story come out yet????? Because I need more, STAT.

What's Inside ↴

✨ Hades and Persephone in the modern world
✨ Soulmates (but she doesn't remember him)
✨ Hades knows better than to kidnap her again but it's killing him not to
✨ Surprise appearances from lesser known Greek myths for the nerds out there (holla)

Pros ↴

✨ This is exactly what a modern retelling should be. No campy vibes, no plot holes. The gods are in the mortal realm waiting to find Persephone's reborn soul and that's it.

✨ Hades having offscreen personal growth was so fun. Watching his internal battle to be a "mature god" and not kidnap his soulmate again and constantly justifying this to his friends was so fun. An eternal god would probably take AGES for character growth, so I like that it happened in the past and we don't get some weird, forced progression in the story to show it to you in real time.

✨ Persephone being a sweet summer child is awesome. I love her whole "I feel like this is wrong but whatever" vibe that she brings. Feels like I am reading about a true 19 year old.

✨ I loved this like I loved Song for Achilles, but in a different way. I think the author truly has perfected her brand with this story.

Cons ↴

✨ Why in the world is this just a part one?? Give me an 800 page novel, idc, I just hate waiting for more!!

Mythology nerds, THIS is the book you need for a good time!

A Surprisingly Enjoyable Read

Okay, this book was… a pleasant surprise. I just finished reading it, and while there were a few elements I didn’t enjoy, I found the novel to be engaging overall. It’s simple in a way, making it quite enjoyable. The writing style is good, though I feel the story could benefit from more "show" and less "tell."

**Potential Spoilers Ahead**

**Things I Liked:**
Persephone being reborn as a human to farmer parents was a refreshing change from other retellings I’ve read. The fact that she was raised as a Christian creates an interesting conflict between her beliefs and the actual nature of things, making for a compelling read when the time comes for her to confront who she truly is. The chemistry between her and Hades is fantastic; their intense interactions were a highlight for me.

Things I didn’t like:
As someone who has read countless omegaverse fanfics, I’m used to characters referring to aspects of themselves as a separate entities. However, I found this concept somewhat bothersome in this particular setting, especially at the beginning. I eventually got used to it, but I’m still not entirely convinced by that element of the story.

Another aspect I struggled with was the portrayal of Leuce and Minthe. I find it challenging to see these two characters as fundamentally good. Having read many retellings, I’ve come to dislike them a lot, so it’s difficult for me to like them even when they’re shown in a positive light. That said, it’s worth noting that there aren’t many stories that present these characters in a good way, so kudos to the author for trying something different.

Despite these points, I genuinely enjoyed the book and I’ll be reading the second one when it comes out.

A Greek Mythology story reimagined. Persephone grew up on a farm in Canada and had been raised to believe in the Church. Unfortunately, the man that screams her name (in her head) has anyone she tells thinking she is mentally unwell or possessed by the devil himself. Little does she know that an archeological dig in Greece will have her meeting several of the “characters” she has loved about ancient Greek lore, and one in particular will set her heart on fire. Hades has been searching for his Goddess, stolen and murdered from him, reincarnated in these current times. When she is finally found, after centuries of calling for her, he wants nothing more than to steal her again as before. This time, he wants to do things right, but the Underworld is crumbling, and his sanity might not last if he waits for her love. Will the world be thrown into chaos or will her unexplainable attraction to this older billionaire be the end to everything she knows as reality?
I enjoy Greek mythology and feel like I need to brush up on it to better understand the backstory of the Gods/Goddesses, even though a lot was revealed in the book. This was definitely a slow burn and sometimes felt repetitive at times, but I did enjoy the interaction of the MC’s, as well as the others. There is a cliffhanger, and I look forward to reading how these two progress and if the suspected danger will be revealed. Some minor grammatical errors but nothing too distracting. Overall, a great introduction to a retelling of these two very different, yet compelling characters. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is by far one of my favorite re-imaginings of the story of Hades & Persephone.

This is a modern, globe-trotting re-imagining that will have readers following Persephone who's a budding archeology student with a deep fascination with ancient Greece from her family farm in rural Canada to a summer archeology program in Greece.

During a night out at a popular nightclub, she runs into tortured artist & nightclub owner Hades Pluton. Who clearly knows more about her than he's letting on since while he's every inch the god of the underworld, her soul had its memories tragically stolen from it so she has no idea who he is aside from a rich guy who shares his name with a mythological man she's been obsessed with since she was a young girl.

Hade's definitely has his work cut out for him because he's determined to do thing right this time & properly gain her love. The only problems is that his power is weakening, he's got 3 months to make her fall in love with him & he's not the only mythological man who's trying to win at least her physical affection.

Since this was only book one in the series & it ended on a cliffhanger, I'm genuinely excited to see where the next books takes us & if Hades ends up being successful in winning the heart & love of his queen before its too late,

Contemporary retellings of Hades and Persephone are common but I have skipped a lot of them. I think sometimes they just don’t feel, accurate. This one however blew me out of the park.

Persephone is a simple girl. She lives with her parents and goes to church on Sundays. She keeps her head down and the only thing out of the ordinary about her life is that she hears a man in her head, calling her name. The man sounds desperate and in pain and she clings to that voice. It drives her to keep it a secret and eventually she feels a pull towards Greece.

There she meets Hades, and though she finds it odd they share the names of a couple she has always enjoyed studying she kind of goes with the flow. She has questions of course but after meeting Leuce and Minthe it feels like a coincidence she can’t ignore.

Hades is desperate for her. But he refuses to make the same mistakes. I enjoy age gap so this one didn’t bother me and I appreciate the way it’s done. The language used is so romantic, so otherworldly and I’m so ready for the next book already. I’m grateful we got a pretty big secret dropped on us but not one that makes me want to tear my hair out. Just one that makes me think.

I can’t wait for the next one!!

I love Greek myth retellings—especially anything about Hades and Persephone—and this book is probably one of the best takes on their story I’ve read!

One thing I really enjoyed was how Persephone wasn’t some powerful goddess right from the start. Instead, she’s just an archaeology student from a small town in Canada who feels this strange pull toward Greece and these ancient myths. It made her feel so real and relatable.

Hades was also really well done. Even though he still had that possessive vibe like in the original myth, he genuinely wanted Persephone to love him for who he was—not just because of attraction or fate. I liked how he was aware of his own flaws from their first story (the OG myth), and it made him feel more genuine.

Surprisingly, I didn’t hate Minthe in this version! Usually, she’s written as the jealous villain, but here she’s portrayed more like an old friend of Persephone from before she was killed eons ago. Plus, Minthe being with Luece was really interesting—Luece had such a strong, confident presence that it made me want to learn more about her, even though she didn’t have a huge role.

Overall, I’ll definitely read the next book! I think Alannah Carbonneau really nailed the balance between mythology and modern storytelling, and she deserves way more hype for this series

A hot urban fantasy retelling of this Ancient Greek myth

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this retelling of Hades and Persephone myth but I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this. I also don’t know much about their original myth so I didn’t have any set expectations for these characters.
There’s amazing chemistry the two MCs - things are on fire between them! Hades being a wealthy philanthropist artist and Persephone as a Canadian farm girl who’s obsessed with the Greek tales, but has no clue as to who she really is, is an interesting combo which the author has woven into a great urban fantasy version of this story.
I had a lot of love for the side characters Leuce and Minthe, and later Addison. They’re brilliantly crafted and the way the author wove them into the story really helped to bring it to life. Not to forget the pups - Noc, Prim and Jas are adorable!
The book has quite a lot of internal monologues but don’t let that put you off as it really works well for these characters in setting the scene for the story to then unfold.
There is a cliff-hanger ending (which, hilariously, confused me as I totally wasn’t prepared for it!), but there’s not long to wait for the next book, so we won’t be left stewing for too much longer!

**Received as an ARC in exchange for an Honest Review**

A modern day take on Greek Mythology. Gods walking among men. Souls of Gods perished reborn to find their way.

This story of Hades and Persephone is complete perfection for me. It’s rare I feel everything is completely and wholly fleshed out, but this is. The story has a definitive plot and storyline that flows beautifully. Characters are fine tuned, and side characters are fleshed out enough to make interactions feel right.

The slow burn smut was absolutely delicious, and was so well written. The angst of the burning desire between the MCs building until it blares to a beautiful inferno.

I found myself not able to put this down when I picked it up. If it wasn’t for my job interfering with my reading, I would have flown through this. I was so enthralled with the characters, and the overall story, that I just couldn’t stop. I even skipped meals to read!

The ONLY downfall for me was the cliffhanger that I knew was coming from the beginning. When I read the last word I audibly yelped because I didn’t want it to end.

I absolutely can’t wait for the next in the series!!

Hades & Persephone
By: Alannah Carbonneau
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5/5
Spice level: 🖤🖤🖤3/5

YES! Finally, a Hades and Persephone story that exceeds every expectation I could have imagined. It incorporates elements of the original myth and puts a unique spin on it that I absolutely devoured. We don’t get an exact "retelling," but we get the backstory mixed with all the new additions. This story is more of a continuation after the myth.

Persephone is taken from Hades, and he spends his eternity searching for her soul. He is obsessed, in love, possessive, and nothing will stop him from finding where or within whom his beloved is now. She has been reborn within a human shell with no memories of her past life as a goddess. The only thing guiding her back to her true love is his voice screaming her name in her head for as long as she can remember. She doesn’t know who he is, but everything within her is being pulled to him. This one ends on a cliffhanger; I cannot wait for the next part!

Hades and Persephone: Keeper of Sins by Alannah Carbonneau
4.5/5 ⭐️
4/5 🌶️

“I want her like I want breath. It’s more than want. Deeper than need.”

Alannah Carbonneau has done an awesome job of introducing her Gods of Myth series with Hades and Persephone: Keeper of Sins!

Persephone is a small town girl from Alberta, Canada, who has an inexplicable need to go to Greece, and for as long as she can remember has heard a man desperately calling out to her in her mind.
Hades is exactly what you’d expect, the ancient god of the underworld.

In this modern retelling, Carbonneau has created an intriguing tale of the reincarnated Persephone and the reunification of the love story that has traversed centuries, with a modern twist.

Was this story absolutely and positively a 5 star read across the board? Maybe not, but it was definitely close! I’m so excited to see what happens next in book two!

I’ve always been intrigued by the tale of Hades and Persephone, so I couldn’t wait to dive into Carbonneau’s fresh take on this classic story. What stood out to me was the unique twist—setting the fated mates in the modern world, with Persephone unable to remember their past life.
As Persephone seeks to forge her own path, she’s haunted by a mysterious male voice in her thoughts. Enter Hades, who offers her an irresistible job: serving as his personal companion at night. But only Hades knows the truth about their shared destiny and must patiently wait for her to rediscover it.
I really enjoyed following Persephone’s journey of self-discovery, as she proves to be anything but meek or easily swayed this time around. With just the right amount of spice, this story kept me invested in both the characters and their fate.

I really enjoyed this Hades and Persephone retelling.

There are several moments towards the start and peppered throughout of religious experiances effecting someone's ability to trust themselves and to figure out who they may be sexually/emotionally and it was heart wrenching to read the internalised confusion at the implications of romantic and sexual feelings when someone has grown up in that environment.

I LOVE how this version of Hades is so focused on getting it right this time, of gaining her trust and earning her consent to make up for how he treated her before.

The touch her and die vibes are just amazing and I'm looking forward to the next book and finding out what her reactions will be to learning all about her past.

I absolutely adore Hades and Persephone retellings and this modern take on the myth was a sheer delight to read.

Persephone (who goes by Annie) is a young woman who has heard a voice calling her name in her head for her entire life. Everyone was convinced she was a bit mad, so at the age of 7, she said the voice stopped. But it didn't. In fact, she now hears it more frequently.

She has been drawn to all things Greek mythology since middle school and now that she's in college, she is taking the opportunity to study in Greece for her major, archaeology. Her parents are less than thrilled that she is going…

Once in Greece, Persephone feels like she is finally home, for the first time in her life. Her friends take her to a club, The Pluto Tower, where she meets Hades. He knows she is his greatest love reborn. He will do anything to keep her. Anything.

My word, I could barely put this book down until I finished it. What an amazing story!

If you’re a fan of dark, brooding romances with mythological twists, Keeper of Sins delivers on all fronts! The chemistry between Hades and Persephone is electric, with their slow-burn romance packing just the right amount of intensity and possessiveness. Carbonneau’s writing creates a lush, atmospheric world where every encounter crackles with tension.

I especially enjoyed the unique twist of bringing Greek mythology into modern day—it makes Hades and Persephone’s connection feel fresh yet timeless. There are some minor quirks, like the occasional offbeat word choice (“pipe,” anyone?) and a few grammar slips, but nothing that takes away from the story’s pull.

Overall, Keeper of Sins is a must-read for lovers of myth retellings with a dark edge. I’m already excited for Book 2!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A Hades and Persephone retelling story. I quite enjoyed learning about how Alannah Carbonneau incorporates the aspects of Greek mythology within the modern world setting. It’s dual pov and we get to see the innocence of young Persephone and the passion Hades has for his love, Queen, and mate.

Persephone’s soul has been reborn into that of a young woman who grew up sheltered on a wheat farm in Alberta, Canada. She gets the opportunity to explore her dreams of archaeology and her passion for art and Greek mythology while attending a summer internship program in Greece.

Hades had spent centuries looking for the soul of his lost love, and comes across Persephone while she visits his business one night in Greece. We learn through his POV chapters what happened to Persephone and his ever burning love and passion for her.
