Max stirs to life in the back seat. 'Puppies?'

MY THOUGHTS: I think I have missed a couple of installments of the Lily Dale Mystery series, but it doesn't seem to matter. There were no problems with continuity of plot or character development, with each book containing a complete mystery.
The Lily Dale series is a heartwarming and amusing cosy mystery series with just a smidgeon of the paranormal thrown in. At one point it seems as if the paranormal aspect is going to overwhelm the storyline, but that never actually happens.
The cast of characters are very entertaining, especially Max and his friend, Jiffy. Odelia and Pandora can get a bit wearing, but both are essential to the storyline, and it seems as if Pandora may an even bigger role in future stories.
I like that the psychics in the story argue and squabble with one another and don't always get it right! Actor Kevin Bacon gets a mention, as does the movie Footloose (which I remember well) and some of the songs from the movie. This was a lovely shot of nostalgia for me!
The other thing I like is how close-knit the Lily Dale community is. The characters all rally around one another in times of trouble and collaborate for the best (if not the most legal) outcome.
Dog Days really is a slow burn - in fact, at one point I wondered if anything at all was going to happen. Rest assured, it does, but not until well into the novel. I did enjoy the resolution.
A quick and entertaining read.

Dog Days by Wendy Corsi Staub is the sixth in the Lily Dale paranormal cozy mystery series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Severn, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background: (Warning – Contains spoilers from previous books)
Lily Dale is a small gated community in New York State. It was the birthplace of modern spiritualism back in the 1980's and today's population predominantly consists of psychics. The energy in the town is known as Spirit, and most residents speak with this entity. In the summer season, it is a very busy place, as tourists from around the world come for readings, as well as physical, spiritual and emotional healing. Bella Jordan and her son Max ended up in the town while trying to return a cat to it's owner...who, it turned out was dead. Bella ended up not only looking after the dead woman's pregnant cat, but also her bed & breakfast, The Valley View Guesthouse. Bella is a skeptic.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Bella and Max are heading home after attending the wedding ceremony of her mother-in-law, when they both glimpse Bella's dead husband Sam in a golden car. As they stare at each other, he drives off. Did they see his ghost, or a double? But Bella doesn't believe in ghosts. When her psychic neighbour Odelia tells Bella that Sam's spirit has contacted her, things just get more confusing.
Then Bella seems Sam again.
Meanwhile, Bella has some strange visitors, and the owner is on the way. Hopefully he will be willing to fork over some money for the repairs this house needs.
My Opinions:
OMG, I really dislike kids in books...they are always portrayed as brats, and often are center stage. This book was no different. Both Jiffy and Max get on my nerves. Speaking of other characters I dislike -- Pandora has got to be number one of the adults that annoy me. I could do without all three of those characters in the books....and they are almost enough to put me off the series....cause let's face it, they are here to stay. I am seriously considering abandoning the series.
On the good side, I really like Bella, Drew, Odelia, and Luther. These characters really help to even things out.
As well, the plot was really good, and it was another light and fast read - which I desperately need from time to time. So, all that being said, I'm still on the fence whether I will continue with the series. If you don't like so many of the main characters, it's hard to pick up the book.

We both grew up in the same small town (not far from Lily Dale itself), graduated from the same high school (one year apart), and attended the same church with our families. I am proud to say I knew Wendy long before she became a best-selling author with over five dozen books under her belt.
Of course, I know of Lily Dale too which, as noted in the book, is just ten miles from where we grew up. Surprisingly, I've never been to the Dale, but that is okay. Wendy very much knows it and brings it visually to life in the pages of her novels. She also fills it with a cast of interesting characters. While I have not read any of the previous books in this series, it was very easy for me to get into the world of Bella and her neighbors. This story has a light, cozy vibe to it while still maintaining those spiritual elements that are the hallmark of the western New York community where it takes place.
After reading this one, I am encouraged to check out the earlier titles in the series.

Another of Corsi-Staub's books featuring Lily dale, NY as its locale. Quite fun and entertaining but the mystery does get very serious! A conversation with a Chauffeur and a Lily dale Medium had me laughing out loud!!!! Beautiful Lily Dale is the star of the book. You learn about the history and the significance of its history, as you read. You learn about Mediums and Psychics too! The characters in the book are likeable, but the kids, dogs and puppies, steal the limelight! The Spirit residents add interest too!!! Fun characters, enjoyable story.
I have been to Lily Dale many times, it is the most peaceful place on earth, that I have ever walked. It has some of the oldest woods in America! Its history and its involvement in history, like the Suffragettes, and visits from Presidents and other famous people and the grounds itself make for a very pleasant and educational visit!!!! It has old hotels, BEAUTIFUL old homes, gift shops etc.
I love Corsi-Staub's Lily Dale books and still have a few to read. Highly recommended. These are not scary or horror driven books. Any age group can enjoy them.

Back inLily Dale, Bella finds herself having to face the reality that there may be something to the afterlife. After seeing her husband, Sam, she may just have to chocolate one up to an actual ghostly encounter. A hard thing to admit for a former science teacher grounded in facts that explain everything.
This is one of my favorite series, I love Lily Dale, and all of the quirky characters that are written into the series. Lily Dale is a real place, the author makes her version even more realistic to the reader. Every time a new entry comes out, I reach for immediately. It’s a favorite of mine and will continue to be for as long as the author continues to write it.

This is one of my favourite paranormal series and this latest does not disappoint. Great characters, a great setting of Lily Dale and a whodunit that is top notch. The regular cast of characters continue to intrigue me.
I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading more books in the series.

Still filled with the same quirky characters, this book follows Bella as she leaves Chicago with her son after her former mother-in-law's wedding. Back in Lily Dale, Bella sees her husband Sam, but she can't have seen him, because he's dead...or is he?

It is a good story. The characters are well written and have their distinct personalities. The rolled along nicely with a twist at the end.

It has been years since I read a book by Wendy Corsi Straub but the premise of this book quickly got my attention. I also felt a bit of a connection with Bella as someone who to is grounded in logic and facts. However, and this next bit, is what caused me a moment’s trepidation. When she would catch glimpses of her husband, I could clearly relate having lost the first love of my life to tragedy. It was easy as I read those scenes to remember feeling his presence or imaging seeing him once upon a time. The author did a nice job there of evoking a bit of the feels as I let the story take me back.
Enough about my felt connection to the story, although in my opinion, having a reader connect to the story is a good thing. That is where the connection ended, Bella’s live is quite different living in a town full of quirky characters that skirt the edge of paranormal which is in direct opposition with Bella’s beliefs. Her strength and the need to put her sone first make Bella a great character just one full of questions as she grapples with the possibility of Sam’s spirit being back in her life. As tough to overcome her lose with the help of her friends. Bella needs to push forward and build a new life and sometimes I wondered if that spirit held her back a bit.
Before I go any further, kudos for the animals in the story. The always see to add something. As to the quirky guest, beginning with but not limited to Odelia, there are a few. Don’t dismiss the Kevin Bacon clue…it is close but not what you think. I found that to be a bit refreshing that the physics in this story were flawed and didn’t just automatically have the perfect vision at the perfect time to save the day. Back to Odelia, she is just one of the quirky characters, we also have Specter Inspectors, Eve filming everything, people who aren’t who they appear and claim to be and host of other red oddballs that keep it interesting. Regardless of how quirky the town residents are they are close knit and look out for each other. Those close-knit kooks are the lifeblood of this story and possibly the series.
I have quite the TBR list but may throw another book of the series on this list. It is good but at time a bit uneventful. Star rating is tough because sometime a book doesn’t fit the scale perfectly. This is probably a sold 3.25-3.35.

Bella Jordan is a young widow who runs a guesthouse in Lily Dale, a peculiar small town in upstate New York. Lily Dale is famous for its spiritualists and mediums. Bella and her son attended a family wedding in Chicago and while at the airport saw the impossible ~ her dead husband. Bella is a former science teacher and doesn't believe in ghosts, yet she can't find an explanation either. When one of Bella's psychic friends gets a message from Sam, things get even stranger. Bella knows she has to get to the bottom of things even if it means letting go.
I've really enjoyed this series and this book's no exception. It was well-written and the characters were well-developed. I was immediately drawn in and kept hooked throughout although it was a bit slow-moving in a few spots early on. It did pick up and become more fast-paced especially in the second half. The story was captivating with a touch of romance along with the intrigue, mystery, and suspense. The paranormal aspects were also great. I loved this book and am looking forward to the next one. I highly recommend both book and series which I believe is best read in order.

I enjoy this series. Lily Dale is an actual place and I've visited several times with friends. This is book 6 in the Lily Dale series and it's probably a good idea to read a couple of the previous books. After attending a family wedding in Chicago, young widow Bella Jordan is returning to the guesthouse she runs in Lily Dale - the quirky upstate New York lakeside village famous for its spiritual mediums - when she catches a glimpse of the impossible at the her late husband Sam.
A former science teacher, Bella is grounded in facts and logic. She doesn't believe in ghosts. But even when she's back home with the competing distractions of her quirky guests, small son Max, resident pet cats and a very unexpected litter of puppies, Bella can't find a good explanation for what she's seen.

Dog Days is book #6 in the Lily Dale Mystery series by Wendy Corsi Staub.
This was the first book I’ve read in this series and had no trouble reading it as a standalone book. I was immediately drawn into the story. Bella lives in Lily Dale, New York's Spiritualist home where she is a sceptic when it comes to spirits. And then she sees her late husband. It was interesting to see if she really saw him or not. And then there are the messages from the spirits. I like Bella and Drew. Lily Dale certainly has its share of quirky characters. I want more time with these characters so I plan to catch up the earlier books.

The town of Lily Dale is full of wonderfully quirky characters who form a close community. Bella is a strong woman, coming to terms with the death of her husband and learning to live again. I enjoy this series and the mystery with an unexpected twist.

Was that Sam? Bella's life changed with his death but now she and their son Max are happily ensconced in Lily Dale, a town filled with quirky people and the paranormal. Not her thing but now she's questioning her viewpoint as she's seeing Sam periodically and wondering why. This is the latest in a series that plays off ghosts and I read it as more or less a standalone (I'd only read one of the previous installments)- and it was fine that way. I liked Bella, Max is a good kid, there's a crew of cats and dogs, and the residents of and visitors to the town make for an entertaining cast. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

This is one of my favourite series and Bella, Max, Drew and the quirky characters are sort of friends I love and I'm always happy to meet.
I would be happy to see Bella happy with Drew and to read about a long travel of one of her neighbours who ignore the concept of boundaries
That said I liked this story, liked the clash between paranormal and Bella's scientific trainings, the puppies and the mystery.
Lily Dale is a place I want to visit one day, these series always made me travel there

I love Wendy Corsi Staub’s Lily Dale series! I was so happy that she finally wrote another in the series. Having been to Lily Dale, NY, and the “Stump”, I see the town as she describes it more vividly and the characters more realistically. The story was interesting and really made you wonder if Sam was indeed still alive.

I felt like this is one of those books where you need to read the previous books in the series. I wasn't familiar with any of the characters or their back stories. I didn't realize this was part of a series when I picked it, and honestly, I only picked it for the title and the dog on the cover. I had to DNF this one since nothing kept me interested and I didn't care for any of the characters.

I absolutely love everything that Wendy Corsi Staub writes EXCEPT for the Lily Dale Series. It's just a little too weird for me, and I quit reading it several books ago until this one (which I didn't realize was Lily Dale when I asked to read it). Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity.

A feel-good mystery story featuring spiritualism and hauntings. Definitely not scary, but an interesting read with a catchy cast of characters. Part of a series but could easily be read as a stand alone book.

I love this series and always look forward to a new book coming out! This book did not disappoint. The characters are quirky and intriguing, and the mysteries that Bella seems to find herself involved in make for an entertaining read every time.

Since I’m from this area, graduated from SUNY Fredonia & visited Lily Dale many times..these books have the comfort of the familiar for me. The author masterfully fleshes out all the characters especially the children..which is not easy to do. The stories are cohesive..with just enough intrigue to make them page turners. I listened to Dog Days, 6th in the Lily Dale Mystery series, and loved it. I love this charming cozy series. All books help with the doldrums, but this series is the perfect mood booster, and you can’t help but smile while listening/reading!

3.5 stars. I loved this visit to Lilydale! It wrapped up quite a few different ongoing story lines, so it makes me wonder if this might be the last of the series!

I enjoy this series because it is pretty light reading mystery wise, and sometimes that is what you need. Do not get me wrong, by light reading I in no way mean it is not good. These books I would probably say along the lines of Cozy Mystery and are very well written with relatable characters and good storylines. Although each story is a Stand Alone, the series does cover the lives of other minor and not so minor characters throughout, so for more enjoyment I would recommend reading them in order.
