The Disciple is on a mission to rid the city of sinners. With a twisted view of the Bible, he finds unique ways to kill those he believes deserve to die, then puts their bodies on display for all the world to see. He claims he’s teaching the city a lesson. It turns out he’s done this before. But this time, there’s a major difference—the Disciple has now discovered how much he enjoys executing his mission. The thrill of the hunt, elaborate methods of murder, and a city on edge are the ingredients of the Disciple’s perfect cocktail. Intoxicated by the pursuit, and armed with a long list of names and a twisted desire to please God, he is just getting started.

Travis Parker, a.k.a. Parker Travis, is the lead hand in the produce department at the local grocery store. However, he fancies himself a journalist. When he stumbles across a grisly scene in a dark downtown alley in the city of St. John’s, Travis alerts the police, but not before taking his own pictures and slipping away before the police arrive—and taking with him a note that the killer left in the victim’s pocket. Travis has big plans, but his amateur sleuthing lands him in trouble with the police, and unbeknownst to Travis, he catches the eye of a very dangerous man with a plan of his own.
. . . the Disciple’s list.
Corporal Sunny Bronson and her partner, Sergeant Roscoe Pratt, are members of the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit in the city of St. John’s, Newfoundland. They’ve just been handed the most difficult case of their career. The body count is rising, and the mountain of evidence is growing, yet they can’t seem to connect the dots. If that wasn’t enough, someone named Parker Travis is one step ahead of them, and he’s flaunting their case on the front pages of the city’s newspaper. With a case that spans three countries and two continents, the pair scramble to bring a killer to justice. The Disciple’s list is growing, and time is running out for the next to die.

Her debut, Hunting Helena was voted into the Top Ten most circulated local authors for 2023 throughout Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries. She is the warped mind behind the Sunny and Roscoe thriller series (Next To Die, Someone Else's Secret) set in St. John's, Newfoundland, and in various communities beyond the overpass. When she isn't writing her own spell-binding thrillers, you'll often find her chasing villains between the pages of her favorite authors' books. Her free time is spent extracting poisons from her flower garden, wandering secluded trails in search of new places to bury a body or relaxing at her remote cabin in the wilderness - her favorite place to summon the words to fill the pages of her next thriller!

Unsettling and downright terrifying. If you want a book to keep you awake at night and trigger an anxiety headache- this one’s for you! I never read dark and gruesome thrillers and this one might be my last because I am not built for this type of fear 😂 The writing is impeccable with magnificent descriptive detail. More than I wanted, at times *shudders. I literally urged at the eyeball scene….
I loved that the setting was in NL. The characters were developed perfectly with depth and care. It was clear that a lot of research went on before writing this because details in this text (such the history of St Johns, the church, and justice system etc.) were delivered and explained with clarity.
Five stars for my book club buddy! Fantastic job Natalie!

Even though suspense thrillers are not my favourite genre, I am delighted to say, I couldn’t put this one down. Great writing, plot and characterization. Can’t wait for Sunny and Roscoe to get back on the streets! Great gook, Natalie!
I love this. Fast paced, very interesting, and a local author to boot! One of the greatest things was so be able to imagine every scene because you’re actually familiar with the areas described. Definitely looking forward to the next Sunny and Roscoe thriller!
Natalie has once again outdone herself. This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I was thrown for a loop. That is GREAT writing. I was putting pieces together, thought I had the killer figured out, then thought it was confirmed just for a twist to come in and blow my mind.
Thank you Natalie for yet another amazing book, I can not wait for the next one!

Hello readers! I hope you'll love this book as much as I loved writing it! Taking on a project of this magnitude is both exciting and daunting. The continuous need to maintain suspense while keeping you, the reader, in the dark is freaking hard! And if this isn't enough, I wanted to present some really great characters for you to love or love to hate! As this book is the first in a series, my hope is that I've done both the characters and you justice, and that you'll become invested enough in their lives that you'll want to know more. I've given myself a five star rating because honestly, I believe this is one hell of a story and if I didn't think so, I probably wouldn't want you to read it! But I'll let you be the judge! And don't hold back! If you love it, tell me why, and if you hate it, tell me that too. It's how I'll learn to do better next time! So happy reading!!
This phenomenal Author has written another page turner. You will be engrossed in the pages, amongst the words she has written and find yourself walking through this book along with the characters you will grow to love. It’s gonna keep you guessing, wondering, and gasping into the wee hours of the morning. You won’t be able to put this book down, and her amazing talent to write a phenomenal thriller will leave you wishing you had the next book in this series already in hand so you can continue reading what comes next in this amazing series . Anxiously awaiting for your next book, I wish I could give this book more stars because it certainly deserves the recognition!!! What a fantastic read!!
Years ago, I read a book that kept me on the edge of my seat from the first paragraph on. It was the most sensational read that I ever read , a micky spillane novel called "Kiss Her Goodbye." It was a good old police mystery. I loved every page of it. Many years later not another book has done the same until I read "Next To Die" by Natalie Carter-Giles, such a edge of your seat novel , could not put it down, every page was equipped with intrigue and mystery in trying to figure who the disciple really is. The way the author's imagination and her ability to write in such detail just awes me . Way to go, Natalie, I can not wait to see what comes next .
This thriller is one of those books that you read in a few days. The storyline and plot hooks you in the first few chapters. The location of St.John's is front and center throughout the whole story, which adds to the story if you're from the capital city or have visited there for business or as a tourist. I can see this novel being made into a movie or mini series. Natalie-congratulations on another well written novel.
Just Wow! This book kept me wanting to read until my eyes could no longer focus! It had me guessing to the very end, and when I thought I had it figured out, nope I was wrong. This is a page turner for any one who loves a real thriller! I would give this book a 10 star review if I could and would highly recommend to anyone who loves a great psychological thriller!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!
I absolutely enjoyed the book. This is my first murder mystery book ( I normally read romance) and it has left me anxiously awaiting the next in the series. It had such description and detail, now when I visit St. John's there are many things that I want to visit and see. There were twist that kept me guessing and wanting to read more. Loved it.
Great crime thriller, wonderful story keeps you at the edge of your seat, one more chapter after every chapter. Wonderful local knowledge can easily visit locations mentioned in the book.
