Moonlit Magic: Wolves of Maine

Rate this book
I'm Jenna Rivers, a witch born into a world of ancient grudges and deadly secrets. My life as a small-town veterinarian takes an unexpected turn when I cross paths with Marcus Wolcott, the alpha of a powerful werewolf pack. Our forbidden attraction ignites a powder keg of hostility between our kinds, threatening to reignite a centuries-old war.

As I grapple with newfound powers that both exhilarate and terrify me, a sinister force emerges from the shadows. Dark magic, more potent than anything my coven has faced before, begins to prey on the werewolves. Caught between my loyalty to my family and the undeniable pull towards Marcus, I find myself at the center of a looming catastrophe.

Time is running out. To save both our families, I must master abilities I never knew I possessed and forge an alliance between sworn enemies. But as the body count rises and the dark magic grows stronger, I realize that the greatest danger may lie in the depths of my own heart.

Love becomes a liability and trust a rare commodity as I'm forced to make impossible choices. The fate of two ancient bloodlines rests in my hands, and one wrong move could doom us all.

I absolutely loved the intertwining of magic (witches) and the supernatural (werewolves).

*I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*

What did this book have?
- Strong FMC
- Fated mates
- Great spice (not a lot of it, but what's in the book is pretty well written)
- Family / loyalty
- Magic spells

I would definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a fast-paced, quick read with shifters, spice, and magic!

4.5 stars, easily. I have an absolute special place in my readers heart for shifter/paranormal romances and this book is right up there with the best of them. I sat down to read for an hour and ended up devouring this. Devouring!

From the very first page, the characters, families, the drama, I was hooked. This wasn't reading a book, this was watching a film. It was easy to insert myself into the story and become completely invested in what was happening. Usually I am pretty good at figuring out the twists ahead, but this one? Nope. The gasps I gusped!! The 'one more chapter' lies I told myself. The depth of the world that the author has built is remarkable and I sincerely hope that this becomes a series. I see characters I want to learn more about, romances to be spun, and families to mingle among. On top of that, I need more backstories of the older characters. The glimpses we got of their past was such a delicious tease, I officially am requesting a prequel.

The only downside I found was I wanted more. More of the relationship building between our MC's, to be specific. Even if it added 100 pages, I would of liked to see more of the MMC's pack, the politics there in and the bonds they nurtured and put at risk. There was a small disconnect on that side of the story, where the coven got a bit more time and attention with their close family. I am a greedy reader, for sure, and this is the only reason this book didn't get that last half of a star. So near perfection and one of my top 10 reads of the year.

Sophie Stevens, your backlist and I have a series of dates ahead because ma'am, you are spectacular.

She's a vet; he's a shifter. Can I make it any more obvious?

Sorry, had to. But! This one had a certain amount of grit I really enjoy in a story. The settings and descriptions really come to life. Marcus (MMC) is part of a pack that has generational issues with witches and a member was just attacked by a witch. Jenna gets called in as the vet to see to the problem…. and she helps, cuz she just happens to be a witch.

Things I liked: I liked the back and forth between the MCs, I liked the settings and atmospheres, and I like resolution <3

Not as much: the overly dramatic familial issues that stuck their wolf-or-otherwise noses into every other aspect of the story.

Overall, really good read! Smart and engaging. More than happy to share my honest review; I received this ebook for free.

"Moonlit Magic" by Sophie Stevens invites readers into a small-town supernatural romance with a touch of mystery, where witches and werewolves navigate a mostly one-sided, centuries-old feud. Our main female character is Jenna Rivers, a witch with healing powers who finds herself caught between her growing abilities and family expectations. When Jenna is called to aid the Wollcott werewolf pack, she encounters Marcus Wollcott, who has just returned from searching for his mate when one of his pack members is injured. Despite the direness of the situation and long-held prejudices against witches, Marcus can't help but be drawn to Jenna.

While the story follows a familiar romance trope, it manages to inject enough charm and intrigue to keep the reader engaged. The mystery surrounding the dark witch attacking the Wollcott pack adds depth to the plot. Although it's not hard to guess the dark witch's identity despite limited page time, there's still a small twist at the end to make the reveal intriguing.

Jenna emerges as the standout character, her compassion and personality stealing the show as she navigates her growing powers and attraction to Marcus. In contrast, Marcus is incredibly frustrating with his stubborn prejudice against witches. His constant denial of his attraction to Jenna, based solely on her being a witch, occasionally drags the story down.

The writing style is generally engaging, though the book stumbles at the start. The first chapter, told from Marcus's perspective in his werewolf form, fails to grab attention effectively. Minor editing errors are present throughout, but they don't detract from the overall reading experience.

"Moonlit Magic" is a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. I look forward to following this series and seeing where Stevens takes it.

I'm thankful to the author and BookSirens for the complimentary advance copy, which I've reviewed honestly and independently.

Sophie Stevens has created a world full of witches, werewolves, and other supernaturals and filled it with rich detail and rules. I enjoy a book that can go beyond "these people have magic and these people are shifters" and really dig into the nitty gritty of how and why the magic works. This book didn't disappoint.

I had to giggle a few times at some of the spoken spells the witches used, they're all rhymes and poetry and while I appreciate the work that must've gone into writing them by the author, they were a little cheesy at times. Not too cheesy to ruin the book for me though.

The romance between the two main characters is a slow burn, and I mean, last quarter of the book before anything happens between them slow, so if you're looking for a smut-fest, this is not it.

- - - WARNING SPOILERISH!! - - -
I'm a little baffled how she went from mega powerful abilities to do certain things all by herself, and then in the final big scene couldn't do it even with her coven helping, and then ended up doing it with coven + others helping. Did she suddenly lose that power? Why was it so much harder with target B instead of target A? Both were supernatural targets. This didn't ruin the book for me either, as I understand it lent more dramatic effect to the conclusion of the story.
--- END SPOILERS ---

I'll certainly read future books from this series, because I like the world and systems the author created and it didn't drag at any point and make me want to stop reading.

The book blurb was quite intriguing and the story did not disappoint. I was fully engaged from the beginning. I became absorded in the mystery and danger occuring among the werewolf clans.

And I enjoyed the way Jenna stood up for herself, especially in the face of such animosity. She stayed true to herself and her convictions. She's proud of herself, loves her family, is a great veterinarian, and respects nature… no apologies for being a witch.

(I will say the absolute disdain of witches by the wolves was a bit intense and annoying after awhile… especially with Marcus. I need you to save my packmate..but I detest you because you're a witch. My wolf likes you but I don't. I need you help me on pack land… but I you are an enemey. It took a long while to find out why the wolves felt like that… and I get that it was an important part of the storyline, but it did try the nerves .)

That being said, I thought there was good character development, the plot kept you guessing (although I had an inkling of a suspicion), the intensity of the conclusion left you holding your breath, and the epilogue summed everything up in a neat HEA. Very entertaining !

This book had me hooked from the very start. I don't read a lot of shifter/witch books, but I'm glad I read this one. Two strong characters whose lives are intertwined. Marcus' pack hates witches, and he doesn't like the fact that he has to work with one, in order to keep his pack safe. They see all witches as evil. Marcus comes across a big stubborn alpha-hole, but it's all a facade.

Jenna is a healer; she is selfless and there is more to her magic that meets the eye. Even though she is hated for being what she is, she is still willing to help the wolf pack and tries to keep them safe. She does however get herself into some trouble along the way.

I actually liked the fact that Marcus didn't know who Jenna was to him at first. He didn't know why his wolf liked her and he certainly didn't want any connection with her. Even when the realization hit, it took time for him accept what fate had chosen for him. When they finally accepted everything, it was perfect.

Those last few chapters were quite a ride. I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy reading this kind of trope.

This is a fantastic, thrilling and action packed story with amazing characters, magic, fated mates, devastating betrayal, heartbreaking loss, power hungry dark witches and ritual murder. Marcus Walcott is the alpha wolf, his pack hates witches because of betrayal long ago. Jenna is a powerful healer witch, she’s a vet at the Paws and Claws veterinary clinic. Jenna tries to save one of Marcus pack, Brandon is badly injured and cursed by a dark witch. Marcus must learn to trust Jenna, to save Brandon and work with her to find who the dark witch is and stop her. I love Jenna she’s so beautiful, courageous and kind, Marcus is conflicted, he must fight his ingrained hate for witchcraft, save his pack, and his fated mate Jenna. Their enemies are powerful, dangerous and vicious, Marcus and Jenna must stop the dark witches, victory will come with a devastating loss. But Jenna will save her mate. Heart stopping action with a powerful spellbinding ending you will love 🥰

4⭐️ 1🌶️

I did not expect to get so hooked. I was completely absorbed by this story.

Jenna is a witch working as a vet. She gets an emergency call but she did not expect that she needs to treat a werewolf. She meets Marcus and his pack, who despise witches. But as someone is trying to hurt the pack, Jenna and Marcus are forced to work together despite their differences.

This book is no mere shifter romance. It is much more. The plot is so interesting, it had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book, anxious for the plot to finally unfold.
Though I kinda guessed quite early on who the dark witch is so there was not much surprise at the end for me there, it didn’t make me enjoy it any less. The action and tension still had me in a chokehold.

Thank you for the author and BookSirens for the advanced copy, I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

Witches and werewolves collide in this story, and what can be better than the fact that they're always at war with one another than the fact that a witch and werewolf have to work together and possibly even **gasp** fall in love?? Can it happen? SHOULD it happen?

This was a fun, quick read and I'll say that though I had a few times where I could call what was coming (not totally predictable, but little things might have been), it was also way too cute and way too fun to get sucked in to. The only reason I didn't give a full 5 star review is because I feel there were plenty of things that needed more history, more facts. Loved the spell work, loved the characters themselves, and of course, I love a good HEA when it comes along.

Moonlit Magic was a wonderful read that left me craving more. Like seriously, I desire the next part of tjos fun story! Jenna and Marcus had great chemistry right from the beginning. And I adored the snap retorts and sassiness of Jenna and her witchy family. Talk about some nice comebacks. I couldn't wait to dove back into this book, honestly. ^_^ I so want to spoil things just so I can fangirl about this cute, entertaining, and strong story. But I won't. Not yet at least, because I gotta read it again. But it’s definitely a good read and one I recommend for werewolf lovers or anyone who enjoys paranormal romances as much as I do.

3.5 stars rounded up. I really enjoyed this book! I’m excited to have a new paranormal series to look forward to. I liked the world building, and I really liked Jenna as a character. The story was engaging from the first chapter.

I do feel like the romance between Marcus and Jenna could have been a little more developed—he went from “I hate all witches” to “I want to be your husband” in what felt like 5 seconds. But, it didn’t bother me too much—the fated mates of it all, etc. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Description of this book had be intrigued and this did not disappoint. In a world of witches, werewolves and other supernatural beings, I really enjoyed this. Two good strong characters who's lives intertwine. The last few chapters, I could not put the book down and plowed right through to the end. Good character development and the story does keep you guessing even when you have an idea of what could happen, you're still intrigued to find out.

This my first book by this author and I could not put this book down!! This was a small-town supernatural romance with witches, werewolves, fae, vampires, and more! Our FMC is a witch and our MMC is a werewolf whose family has LOATHED witches for decades, and they happen to be mates. I loved all the spellwork contained within the story and the FMC is a badass! I will definitely be checking out other books in this series.

Moonlit Magic by new to me author Sophie Stevens is a wonderfully refreshing take on the old witch/werewolf trope. I was captivated by Jenna and Marcus' relationship, how strong they both are and am looking forward to seeing their romance grow. The book starts off a bit slow but hang with it and you will be so happy you did. I always go into a book from a new author with skepticism and lately it's been 50/50 but I am now a fan of Sophie Stevens and recommend this book. I can't wait for the next book!!

This Werewolf shifter romance didn’t disappoint and with Witches thrown in too, it was a really enjoyable read.

I liked how the drama built up throughout the book and the descriptions of the surroundings and characters helped carry me away into their world.

This read was full of action, mystery, intrigue and romantic scenes to make you sigh. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I once read a book about a vet treating a pair of werewolf twins and then go the shock of her life when they transformed into hot men. So this was right up my alley with the surprise of having weres instead of actual animals. It was a real treat to read and had the added suspense to keep me on my toes! It was fun for me to try to figure out what was to come and to solve the mystery behind it!

A wonderful journey into the world of witchcraft and shifters. An attraction between a witch and a shifter. It will be forbidden because their families hate the other so much. It will not be easy for them as they try to prove their love to their families.
I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I fell in love with them both and their struggle for love

This is a slow burn paranormal romance about a which and a wolf. In this society the pack and the coven have been at odds with each other for a very long time and Jenna and Marcus find that they are drawn to each other…even though they should hate each other. I loved Jenna’s giving soul. She gave of herself without regard for what it could do to her. Marcus may be slow to accept but the pull doesn’t give up! The novel included light spice and lots of suspense and mystery!

Heart pounding, body tingling, witchcraft, mysteries and a mmc to die for! I loved the amount of history and depth this book offers the reader, we are connected to the characters (we either love or hate them) right from the start as the story grows and develops so do the mc's. Magic, spellcraft, ww heat, enemies to lovers, ancient terrors threatening to take any character at any time it leaves you on the edge of your seat as you turn the pages.
Personally I wish the story was a little deeper after the main twist happens because these characters deserved more pages, more history, more explanation of the rules of magic to help explain how and why it ended the way it did. I just feel such an amazing book could have easily been 5 stars if only there was more to chew on in the last 15-25 mins of reading, its almost like the writer had 30mins to finish the book and although they ended it well -if they were less rushed and spent a little more time then it would have been perfect!
The spice was hot and tingly and left me wanting more! Really well written lustful scenes that leaves you begging for someone- either one- to just damn it all and make a move ! Fwahr- what a feeling these scenes leave you with! I'd say spice level 3 out of 5, if there was more I'd have gone higher but as it was written so well I'm not sure adding more would have felt right as the spicey scenes really felt natural and enevatable that adding more may have read as forced or uneeded... I wouldn't have complained though.
I can not wait to read the next one and see where this new dynamic leads or what it unearths... I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
