Mellie Rose Devlin never intended to move to Los Angeles. She never intended to work as a pastry chef at her cousin's cafe, and she most definitely did not intend to fall in love with a movie star.
Jackson Traver wasn't paying attention one day, and that was all it took for sweet Mellie Rose to come crashing into his life. This is their story.

This book is fantastic. The character and plot development was excellent, except the lead female character was whiny. The lead male character appeared to be much older than the lead female character and equated sex to love. Their needs to be a sequel.
An absolute page turner from start to end. Joelle's expressive, descriptive writing puts you right in the scene of the story and makes you wanting more! It's intoxicatingly good with bits of naughtiness that makes you not able to put the book down. To put it simply, I read this book in one day. It's that good!
Loved that one of my favorite bloggers wrote a book! It's a sweet story that keeps you turning pages. The characters were interesting, and the overall love story was thoughtful. Nice read!
It started out ok. I found myself smiling at the interactions between Mellie and Jackson. But as the book went on I started getting annoyed.
First, like other reviewers said the editing was awful. I can’t believe someone got paid to edit this book and left so many things not edited.
Second, Mellie gets kind of annoying with how insecure/babylike she is. Grow a pair.
Third, I’m not sure if a sequel was intended but there are too many things mentioned and just forgotten about or dismissed. For instance, did Seth ever ask Darcy out? What was up with Blake checking Mellie out and giving her the creeps, was there a reason or was she just being weird? A few others as well.
The ending was just pretty Meh. I was surprised about the attack and then bam the end. Like what?
The whole thing just left me disappointed I spent a day reading it instead of either something else or rereading something I love. (Like the hating game by Sally Throne.)
Again, this was an unexpected surprise! Mellie was a sweet character, and I liked seeing her progress through the novel. I liked her connection with Jackson, the male MC, as well.
This was a really hard book for me to rate. The story itself deserves 3.5 stars at the very least, but oh my god, this was maybe the worst editing I've ever seen in anything published. I'll get to that, though.
First, the story: Mellie's had her life in Kansas planned out for her, but when her fiancé cheats on her, she moves to LA and starts working as a baker in her cousin's coffee shop. While there, she delivers a cake to a Hollywood birthday party and Jackson, Hollywood star extraordinaire, doesn't watch where he's going and causes her to drop the cake on herself. Cue the most embarrassing meet cute in the history of meet cutes. Anyhow, in those short moments he falls for her, and most of the book deals with her adjusting to a.) really being loved by someone, and b.) the Hollywood life, Paparazzi, and rowdy fans. The love story is a great one, and even though the ending was a bit too intense for my liking (trigger warning for crazy stalkers and assault?), it was a great story. All of the characters were relatable and even the supporting characters were fascinating- I do hope there's another book about the story between their friend Lucy and Jackson's brother Seth- but please, with better editing...
Speaking of, the editing here was horrendous. I feel like the edition released is the only one so far, so I can't even blame it on the release. It really feels like not even the author read the book all the way through to correct mistakes. Some of the mistakes in it are also really weird, it feels like the book was written on an iPhone with autocorrect on, because sometimes words are replaced by something else that looks similar, but makes no sense. Words are also missing a lot, or there is one too many that doesn't belong, not to mention countless grammatical and spelling errors. I'm not going to complain if that happens once or twice- it's easy to overlook that- but there were large portions of the book that had weird mistakes on every page, and when I get taken out of the story this much just to try and figure out what the author actually WANTED to say, as opposed to what was written on the page (the most egregious one, I think, was when the f was left out of the word 'shift' because it gave that sentence a whole new meaning- ummmmm), it just makes me mad. Especially because there's so much potential there.
So yeah, I'm happy to give this book the 3-4 stars it deserves if there's ever a next edition of it that fixes the (literal) hundreds of mistakes.
I loved Jackson, "I can't let him eat a cake from the grocery store," he said, his voice a little huskier than before. "Not when that," he motioned down the length of me, "looks so good," he said, his eyes roaming the length of me." Jackson that boy has no qualms about being naked anywhere, "by the time I finally did wake up, Jackson was already out of bed. When I opened my eyes, I could see him brushing his teeth in the bathroom. Naked. Hell. Yes. He caught me looking at him and I threw the blanket back over my head." I just loved his manliness, "as much as I love the smell of you all over me, I haven't showered since I left Paris yesterday morning." He said, standing up from the tub. He was wearing his briefs." He's also a straight shooter, "I got in your way because after I checked out your a**, I saw your face. And I knew I wanted to get close to you. You had me all confused, and that's why I wasn't paying attention." He'd give is girl anything, "Jackson laughed, and got up from the bed so he could hold me from behind. "Just say the word Mellie," he whispered into my ear, "and I would give you the world. Or my Amex, at least. You know that." I loved this story and I loved Jackson if ya'll couldn't tell.
Mellie Rose Devlin is getting by in life. She left a crappy family/relationship and moved to California to work at her cousin's small cafe as a baker. Her delicious treats made her noticed by some celebrities and she was delivering a birthday cake when she bumped into Jackson Traver. Literally, they bumped into each other and she dropped the cake! As the relationship progresses and Mellie has to deal with the celebrity lifestyle can their relationship endure?
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They seemed like real people that I would like to get to know better. If another book came out, I would pick it up. The ending came out of nowhere and was intense.
My biggest complaint is that this book simply needs more editing. There are some points where facts don't add up. In quite a few places it felt like autocorrect picked the best word choice in a sentence. That made me confused and it took a moment to work through. I'm looking at you beginning of Chapter 23 (he did what in his seat?! oh, wait, ADD a letter). So the bones of a great story are there, it just needs a little more polishing.
This is more of a 2.5 star rating. Breathe Again had the potential to be a great story, but it was too vague and needed some enhancements.
Melanie aka Mellie is your average girl next door who has a chance encounter with famous and sexy actor Jackson Traver. From that point on he pursues her and a relationship evolves. The plot itself was cute and interesting. The characters however, largely under developed. Not too much info was given on the 'whys' of things so it felt as though the author was just scratching the surface. On top of that, there was a whole lot of cheese which led me to cringe at many of the things Jackson said.
Overall, it was a bit one-dimensional but kept me entertained. It was a decent enough first effort. There is definitely room for the author to grow.
I really enjoyed reading this i. Nice story. Wish it would have gone on a little longer. Would have like to have seen more into what would have happened. Also would have liked to find out what happened to Collin in the end. But overall great story. Hope there is a part two to Jackson and Mellie. Also want to hear the story behind Lucy and Stephen.

I absolutely loved this book! Once I got into the story I could hardly put it down. I'm so impressed that this is the author's first novel because the writing was so good. The characters were very likable and I was drawn in by their love story. I'm also major pop-culture junkie so it was fun to read a love story between a regular woman and a movie star. It's the perfect story to curl up on the couch with or to read by the pool. It's a nice quick read that I would definitely recommend to any of my girl friends.
Free on Kindle right now. Cute, fun, snowy Sunday read.
There are some places where the narrative and timeline get a bit confusing. Several copy-editing misses, too, including a number of places that probably didn't get updated when the story changed POV/tense. Nothing too egregious that they pulled me out of the story, though.
What an awesome book!! Joelle Duff has really written a amazing story!!! I highly recommend this book. It was great to find a story that you can root for both characters. Would love to read more from these characters.
Solid 4 star read. The characters were interesting. The story was fast paced and actually a brilliant read. I loved the ending. The only reason I did not give this five stars is because it needed some serious editing. Well Done!
I loved this book! I was so sucked into it and felt like I was living in the main characters life. I found myself feeling what she was feeling, and I couldn't get enough of this book! I really related to the characters, loved the romance, and the story was original. FIVE STARS!
The story was a romance love affair, but with a twist. It was a person finding who they are through love. Overall a great story to read. This a solid 4 star book, loved Jackson, he's my hero
Cute, I liked it all the way through. Then at the end, the ending seemed hurried and I wasn't clear why it ended at that point as I didn't think the story was resolved.
Debated on whether to give this a two or a three star...the premise for the story is good, just the editing is horrendous and it doesn't flow all that smoothly.
