Untwisted #3

Into the Light

Rate this book
Into the Light, the third novel in the highly addictive Untwisted series follows on with the complex and intensely erotic relationship between the dark and domineering Nathaniel Jackson and timid Stella Marsden.

Passion runs wild as Nathan and Stella continue their illicit 'no-strings attached’ meet-ups, but as Stella begins to fall for Nathan, his jealous side rears its ugly head.

After a misunderstanding threatens to end their relationship once and for all, can Nathan move past the engrained behaviours of his past and learn to trust Stella, the only woman to ever tempt him to consider a ‘real’ relationship?

Where to start? I’m really a lot more boring and normal than my books might suggest. It may disappoint some to know that I’ve never had an illicit affair with a domineering pianist, nor have I ever met or dated a man who frequented sex clubs in London. I have however always had an overactive imagination, which may in part explain where my stories come from! My books may be fiction, but the setting of London was a deliberate choice, I was born and raised in London and as such it holds a special place in my heart which I hope comes across in my writing. Some of my best times have been spent with friends wandering the markets of Camden or sipping beers in Covent Garden.

I moved to Manchester to study, where I ended up living for over ten years. Originally I qualified as an archaeologist, but I soon realised that jobs in that sector were minimal and decided to put my enthusiasm to use by becoming a teacher. Now I split my time between teaching, and engaging my wildly over active imagination by writing. Currently I’m living abroad spending my days exploring, teaching and writing. Where ever I find myself I live with my ever suffering, but hugely supportive husband, our dog and a crazy half-wild cat who keeps the whole household on its toes.

Music is a huge influence in my writing, I listen to everything from Snow Patrol and Linkin Park to Evanescence and REM, in fact, those of you with a good memory for lyrics might even spot one or two lines popping up in my writing as you read. I enjoys writing a wide range of genres including comical real life stories and youth paranormal fantasy, but my first published novels are the adult themed trilogy series 'Untwisted.'

Book 3 of the Untwisted Series continues the dual POV format for Nathan and Stella. At the end of “Out of the Darkness” Nathan effectively chooses his brother, Nicholas, over Stella. Ushering her out of his apartment and possibly, though not in his mind, out of his life Nathan does what he always does, he takes care of Nicholas.

A distraught Stella finds some relief in the form of her brother, when he returns home for a brief period of leave. Glad of the distraction, she is enjoying the company of Simon and his Navy colleagues in Claridge’s Bar only to find her dark and brooding bad boy locking his gaze on her from the bar.

Knowing Nathan as she does Stella’s stomach is in free fall as he stalks towards her. Not waiting for introductions, Nathan grabs her arm and begins to haul her away before Simon interjects. As is her nature, and not wanting a scene in an expensive London establishment, Stella placates her brother and moves with Nathan. Backed into a cupboard and anticipating facing the wrath of Nathan, Stella does not expect to be, in her words, “claim-fucked”, to be on the receiving end of a Nathaniel Jackson apology or to be experiencing “apology sex” in the immaculate ladies’ off the hotel foyer a short time later.

In this book, it is Nathan’s turn to ponder the alien feelings that Stella is rousing within his normally über controlled self. His self-discovery makes for both entertaining reading and an entertaining Nathan, as his marginally lighter side breaks through.

Characteristically, anything Nathan is never straightforward and Stella finds herself walking a highly volatile tightrope in her efforts to ‘love’ her mercurial man and wishes that sometimes she’d given a little more thought to her sometimes impulsive actions. As she cautiously makes her way along the rope, little does she realise that in the background Nathan is striving to find the culprit behind the potentially company destroying 18% undercuts and in typical Nathan style he asks Stella if she behind the leaks whilst holding still within her.

As Nathan tussles with his strange and new feelings he draws back from Stella and cancels their customary weekends together. His mood is not alleviated any by phone calls with a deliriously happy Nicholas. The do prompt rather un-Nathan like behaviour when he decides that he does want what Nicholas and Rebecca have; he does want more with Stella, but he has no idea how to go about it. Returning to his alpha self, Nathan then simply does what he’d do if he were in a boardroom; he zeroes in on the person he determined as responsible for his brother’s new found happiness and asks Rebecca.

Of course, this being Nathan he doesn’t necessarily approach things in quite the right way and misunderstandings are inevitable. It isn’t helped when Nathan’s past intrudes in a tangible way. Stella’s unequivocal and pitiless acceptance of his past finally compels Nathan to risk all in his pursuit of Stella’s heart. Unfortunately he neglects to inform Stella.

A wonderfully ‘normal’ day and evening is followed by a morning where Nathan considers his actions to be moving their relationship out of the D/s realm and into the ‘vanilla’; however, Stella’s interpretation is the polar opposite. Whilst Nathan is oblivious, Stella endures a horrendous week. The very words Nathan had spoken whilst they were drawing up their contract now haunting her every moment.

Returning to a thoroughly empty apartment, Nathan has no concept of what has happened or why Stella is not there. Tracking her down, he presses the intercom to Stella’s home but being unaware of Nathan’s original intentions she feigns her absence and returns to wallowing. Evading Nathan, however, is not easily done and that evening a tenacious Nathan has circumnavigated the intercom and is hammering on her front door.

With no other real option, Stella lets Nathan in, and so plays out their confused reunion; an utterly mystified Stella and a crazed and bewildered Nathan. They both agree that they need to talk, but are unwilling to with an audience so Stella agrees to go to Nathan’s apartment once he states that he’ll bring her home if she doesn’t want to stay.

Once there, Nathan realises that being absent all week means that he has nothing in and so leaving Stella to settle, he heads off for food and a bottle of wine. Perplexed by the state she finds Nathan’s apartment in, Stella’s confusion over Nathan and their relationship grows.

Stella’s nervous anticipation of Nathan’s return is interrupted by the appearance of Gregory and his attempt to access Nathan’s office. Trusting her gut, Stella prevents him gaining entry and instead endures Gregory’s unwanted advances. As she finally rebuffs Gregory Stella articulates her growing feelings for Nathan and looks up to find an empty space where Gregory once was.

Having overheard Stella Nathan attempts to uncover the truth of her feelings for him, but still believing Nathan’s position unchanged, she does her best to placate him and prolong what she perceives as her ill-fated relationship. Nathan’s admission that he too wants more finally leads to a conversation apropos the torn contract and the removal of her collar necklace and the prospect of dates et al.

Just as the couple are contemplating the evolution of their relationship, what Gregory said finally hits Nathan and he goes all out to save his business. So with that in the background, they embark on a relaxing day before heading to Nicholas and Rebecca’s for dinner.

Did I say relaxing? That may not be an accurate description as they encounter not one, but two exes and the resulting jealousy and to top that the question of the 18% is finally resolved but can Nathan overcome his past and believe that words are meaningful and utter the three little words that Stella longs to hear?

And so I await “Enlightened” to check back in with the Jackson brothers and their wilfully strong women with an affectionate smile.

Stella and Nathan’s voyage of discovery continues, aided and abetted by Nicholas and Rebecca. I love the relationship between the Jackson brothers and the love they clearly feel for each other. Nicholas and Nathan are complex, closed off men and so many of the misunderstandings between them and their partners are a result of their inability to articulate their true feelings. An other enthralling read

No normalizo para nada esas actitudes. No son normales, no están bien. Sé separar la ficción de la realidad. Es entretenido como LIBRO. Necesitaba aclararlo. :)

Loving every line

Don't get me wrong, the first book is great but books two and three, with much more of the dom/sub stuff, is much more of an intriguing story to me. I feel that the evolution of Nathan and Stella as a couple is what really makes it good. You get to see Nathan change and I like that you feel like you really get to know him from Stella's point of view. It's just much more of a change for me to see Nathan falling in love. From the first book I really felt like I didn't like Nathan's character much. But the parallels these next two books draw from Nathan's small role in the first book are well incorporated. I almost want t to re-read the first book to see if my impression of Nathan changes. I bet it will!

Book three did not disappoint. I absolutely love how Stella is slowly changing Nathan and I love it. This book was quite interesting. It was nice to see Nathan have doubts and concerns and questions. I suppose if one was raised the way he was with an abusive father who was dominate in every way and demanded so much from his family and punishments were handed out if they were not to his standards they too would wonder what love was. I have no doubts that he loves Stella and one day he will be able to say the words. Can not wait for the final installment to come out and then come to Kobo. This was worth the wait and the read.

not sure what happened...

Not sure what happened between book 2 and 3, but the tone and character behaviors shifted greatly. I fairly liked book 2. I didn't read book 1 since it wasn't on kindle unlimited, but I don't see where I missed anything. Unless it was about a different set of couples maybe? But this book was cheesy and I felt detached from Nathan. I didn't feel the connection between him and Stella as I started to in book 2. About 10% into the book I felt like I was reading from a totally different author. I skipped the majority of the book because it just didn't keep my interest :/

I have been enjoying this series very much. However, I have to say that this particular book was a little more on less exciting side of things. It wasn't as believable as the other books due to Nathan being such a hard core Dom and then just turning all warm and fuzzy at the drop of a hat. I would have liked to have had the book a little longer to see him struggle a little bit with letting that side go but all in all it was an enjoyable read and I am excited to read the last book in the series.

3.5 - got to know these two characters better - and I really like them. However, I do prefer Rebecca and Nicholas's story, as it was geared towards their relationship outside of the bedroom. Nathan was a great character - he's literally feeling his way through a relationship and dealing with another human being. His straightforwardness was amusing and kept my interest.

Great read!

Complex character writing with great story background. Fantastic chemistry with light BDSM. Many books struggle to provide a convincing back story as to why the characters are dominant or submissive. The set up for the two characters in book 2 made their relationship transition in book 3 credible. Keep writing Alice and I can't wait for the next book!

The story which continues with Nathan and Stella is awesome. How they continue to move more towards a "normal" relationship. The kindness that Nathan really displays is wonderful. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
