Best-selling romance author Claire Greene confines her passions to the pages of her books, afraid of being hurt again. When she receives a 1Night Stand date “to give her something to talk about in interviews,” can she let herself be swept away?
A rock star who needs to let go….
The past has a chokehold on former rock star Ty Krause. Instead of killer tunes, he kills time writing passable songs for a British boy band and spends his nights wishing he had the balls to say good-bye. In a last ditch effort to move on, he signs up for 1Night Stand, thinking that a night of no-strings-attached sex will help him break the leash of his past.
From the moment Claire and Ty meet, sparks fly—but can they overcome their pasts or will their potential love story end on a sour note?
Catherine Peace has been telling stories for as long as she could remember. She often blames two things for her forays into speculative fiction—Syfy (when it was SciFi) channel Sundays with her dad and The Island of Dr. Moreau by HG Wells. She graduated in 2008 from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in English and is still chasing the dream of being super rich and famous, mostly so she can sit around in her PJs all day and write stories.
Catherine currently lives on a farm in South Carolina. E-I-E-I-O.
This is the third work I’ve read from Catherine Peace. Her writing style is consistently good. Her characters are real, witty, and interesting. *minor spoilers below*
Decadent Publishing’s steamy 1 Night Stand Series (to which this book belongs) involves two characters being set up for one night of passion that may or may not lead to more. In “Complete Me,” perpetually single romance author Claire is paired with Ty, a rock-star whose glory days may be behind him. The two have great chemistry, but Ty is packing some major baggage.
I found Claire to be loveable- a character I would want to befriend. Ty, however, was not my cup of tea. At one point fairly early on in the date, Claire was ready to walk out, and to be honest, I very much wanted her to. Of course, that would have deprived us of some spicy scenes. I suppose that Ty manages to redeem himself, but if I were Claire I’m not sure I would have given him a chance to do so.
My distaste for Ty aside, this is still a highly enjoyable and sexy read. I’d recommend it to any romance fan.
I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Complete me is the story of Claire Ergleston and Ty Krause both seem to be searching for someone or something they are lacking. Ty was in a band that was a one hit wonder because the band imploded when Ty's then girlfriend hooked up with another member of the band. Even now he can't let her go ten years later and when she calls he runs to her. It isn't healthy and he knows it but he's stuck. Claire is a writer having trouble finishing up her latest book and her PR lady tells her she needs to get out there and date for her image as a romance writer. Bother Ty and Claire get hooked up through the 1nightstand website for one night of whatever. Ty has to get past his need for his EX and that becomes more evident when he meets Claire. Claire is attracted to him too but when he leaves before morning for his ex she's done. Maybe. ... Claire and Ty each have issues to deal with but you feel a connection between then right from the start. This was a fun fast paced quick sexy read.
I’m not usually a huge fan of short stories because I always feel like I didn’t get the full picture and the characters never had time to really develop. Not the case here. The story was short, sweet, and left me completely satisfied. I’ll definitely pick up another in the series.
Short stories don't give an author long to show their writing chops but Catherine Peace has done a superb job with Complete Me. She has a flawless writing style that immediately pulls you into a world incredibly well formed in the first few pages and introduces you to characters who are solid, likeable and relatable. The story grabs you from the first line - "You did what?" - and leaves you wanting more when it ends less than a hundred pages later. This is the first book of hers I have read but I am off to find her back catalogue. Do yourself a favour and do the same!
The beginning was rough because I wouldn’t blame her if she walked right out on him. Once we find out about his past and his life then things make more sense. He changes, growing once he knows the love of a woman like Claire.
I’ve always wondered what life is like for the one-hit-wonders of the world, and we get a glimpse of that here with the once famous Ty Krause. Having hit it big with the song that he wants everyone to stop remembering, Ty had gone from celebrity status to washed-up boy-band songwriter. Granted, we all know boy bands make it big with the fans, but he took no pride in the drivel he came up with for them. He’s stuck in a rut with his work, unable to let go of his past unhealthy relationship, and itching to move on. Nothing a one-night-stand can’t solve, and romance novelist Claire was looking to test out some of the steam she likes to write about.
Ty definitely had the alpha-male sexiness going on here, and as he and Claire got to know each other on their one night, she brought out the less cynical side to him. He was disappointed in himself for not doing more with his career, and for allowing himself to get pulled back in by his ex every time she beckoned. He needed someone like Claire to make him snap out of it, and she did that and more as they took full advantage of their evening! They both felt drawn to each other from the start, but Claire also liked the confident side of him that came out, and Ty felt himself finally seeing more in his life with Claire next to him.
I like the concept of this 1NightStand series, you’ve got to love the simplicity of taking out all the complications of finding a guy to have a one night stand with! But I was worried that I wouldn’t connect with these characters over such a short story, and that did kind of happen here. I don’t think it was entirely the insta-lust factor, more just that Ty’s lack of motivation to move on in life that took away some of his appeal. I get being hung up on an ex, but I wish Ty had more of a backbone when it came to her. Thankfully Claire is confident enough to not put up with an indecisive man, and it added a bit of drama to this sexy short.
Overall, it was a steamy read with a decent amount of character development for so few pages, and a sweet ending that will leave readers happy!
Quotes:
She pulled up the e-mail and opened the attachment, labeled, 1NightStand—Claire Greene. After a few moments, her date’s profile dominated her laptop screen. Dear God, there’s every romance writer’s dream.~p. 1
A breathy moan hit him straight in the cock, and she rolled onto her side, her sleepy,
A childlike giddiness flooded her. Everything she’d ever dreamed of surrounded her. Except for the missing piece. ~ p. 31
We meet Claire whose a writer in chapter one. We learn that shes having some trouble with her latest book, and her PR Penelope has taken it upon her self to help out her friend. Penelope feels that by setting Claire up on a blind date and not just any blind date. Will help her get over her writers block. This blind date is said to bring her to her soul mate. Then we meet Ty whose a one time musican that now writes songs for some new boy band. He signed up for this blind date thing on a whelm in the hopes of forgetting his ex love of his life, who still has her claws into him. This story has it all, intrigue, an ex that just wont go away, a rick star who just wants love, and so much more. I would love to have had more of their story, but Catherine does wrap it very nicely.
