This best-selling author of all time wrote 66 crime novels and story collections, fourteen plays, and six novels under a pseudonym in romance. Her books sold more than a billion copies in the English language and a billion in translation. According to Index Translationum, people translated her works into 103 languages at least, the most for an individual author. Of the most enduring figures in crime literature, she created Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She atuhored The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the history of modern theater.

После вскрытия могилы фараона умирает археолог, затем — ещё двое участников экспедиции. Жена покойного просит Пуаро выяснить правду.
А вот по-настоящему хороший рассказ, упирающийся как в потолок в собственную краткость.
Выбрав Египет, Агата Кристи не просто использовала его как нестандартный задник, но и как следует им воспользовалась, отправив своего героя ругаться на пирамиды и страдать в поездке на верблюдах.
Вообще у Пуаро тут настоящий бенефис. Он то рисует пентаграммы, то читает лекции о чёрной и белой магии, а то вообще притворяется мёртвым, не давая читателю заскучать. Преступление получилось излишне бытовым, и, возможно, не самым эффектным в карьере писательницы, да и материал, совершенно точно мог бы без потерь увеличиться раза в два, и только бы выиграл, избавившись от ощущения стремительной спешки, когда по фабуле протаскивают как ребёнка за руку, будто боясь куда-то опоздать.  Уверен, стань "Проклятье египетской гробницы" романом, пусть небольшим, оно, даже не имея его сложно исполнимого злодеяния было бы перспективнее какого-нибудь "Убийства в Месопотамии".

I think my very 1st encounter with Hercule Poirot was on the Orient traveling all over parts. When someone doesn't know the reputation of a brilliant detective they're much more likely to make mistakes like assuming their tricks work on everyone... Mummy's curse? seriously? 😁
