Almost is the electric second installment in the Bad at Love a second chance, sports romance that will capture your heart, leaving you wanting for more with every turn of a page.
You never truly forget your first love, always wondering what almost could have been.
After a proposal gone awry, Thalia and Sebastian's love story abruptly ended.
Three years later, Sebastian Walker, quarterback for the Charlotte Panthers, is engaged to Kiera Davis, his girlfriend of two years. Thalia Lewis is a world-renowned photographer, and Kiera is hell-bent on hiring her to photograph their special day. Thalia is unsurewhether she can set aside her feelings toward Sebastian to honor his request for his bride, until he agrees to leave her life forever if she agrees to the job.
Will Thalia and Sebastian finally beome an almost in each other's lives with two simple words? Promises are easier to make than they are to keep, and the truth always has a way of slipping into the open.
Almost is not recommended to read this as a stand-alone. Please read the first book, Little Do You Know, to have full hindsight into the tumultuous love story of Thalia Lewis and Sebastian Walker to maximize the reading experience for Almost.
Oh my gosh MY HEART CANT TAKE IT!!! I knew the angst in this was going to destroy me, after reading book 1 - I just knew. And wowowowow did this H U R T in such a good way though, I’m obsessed. The Bad At Love Duology must be read in order, and they hurt, so be warned. I felt sick to my stomach sad the entire time in book 1 and book 2 wasn’t much different, but I loved literally every second of it.
Laurea writes some of the best angst, emotional tension, healing and lowkey toxic (but in a Love Letters to Whiskey kind of way) love I’ve ever experienced and I’m hooked. Anything she writes, I’m gonna read. 🫡🙂↕️🫶🏻
Almost follows Thalia and Sebastian again, same as Little Do You Know, but we start in a much different way. After a proposal gone not as planned Thalia and Sebastian part ways after their HFN ending in book 1, three years later Sebastian’s new fiance Kiera is determined to have Thalia photograph their wedding and as you can guess, nothing goes well for anyone involved in that uncomfortable situation 🥲🤭
I don’t want to spoil too much, so I don’t want to say too much - aside from I loved this. Everything about it. All the stars, all the praise, everything. I really mean it when I say you need to read this duology, especially if you loved Love Letters to Whiskey, I think this will be your jam!! 😍🫶🏻
Thank you so much @authorlaureamatthews for the beautiful paperback ARC!! Thank you for Thalia and Sebastian, and all my pain. I loved it and them and you. 🥲🫶🏻
What to expect in Little Do You Know (book 1): 🏈 Sports Romance 💘 Brother’s Best Friend 🤝🏼 Forced Proximity 🤫 Secret Dating 🔥 “One Time to Get it Out of Our System” ❤️🩹 Allllll the angst
What to expect in Almost (book 2): ❤️🩹 More Angst 🕊️ The One That Got Away ✌🏼 Second Chance 🏈 Sports Romance 🫂 Found Family 💍 Engaged to the Wrong Person 🌶️ Open Door ❣️ HEA
Okaaaaay I liked this one!! book two of two and a real heartbreaker of a romance (omg am I a romance book girlie??). Better than book one cuz obvi the characters have grown up and more mature in this one. Again, we looooove a sports sub-plot
Thalia and Sebastian’s story continues. I loved the first book little do you know but this one was even better. There’s just something about their love story from childhood friends to lovers but than also being able to see the growth from young adults out of college to now that was so entirely fulfilling.
As always Laurea did such an amazing job with real life topics that can be difficult and challenging as well as life altering. One of my favorite things about this duology is the friend group/found family. One of my favorite series I’ve read this year for sure!🤍
If this book could be summed up into a song it would be Champagne Problems by Taylor Swift. The angst, the drama, the emotions. I felt them all in this roller coaster duet story of Sebastian and Thalia. I love emotional stories and this one pulled me in from the beginning. This book picks up three years after the first book and we find our characters where they are in their current lives. I recommend going in blind as it’s best to just experience the story as it unfolds and feel the raw, angst, emotional journey Laurea takes us on!
This book was EVERYTHING I needed it to be. It was stunning.
Lia and Bash’s story needed to be continued and boy I was not expecting it to be continued in this way but I’m not mad.
The twists were twisty and the way I cried like a baby was unreal.
After a failed proposal Lia and Bash are broken up. Lia has been traveling the world and Bash now has not only a new girlfriend but actually a whole fiancé. Bash’s fiancé has decided for some umm random reason that Lia HAS to be their wedding photographer and so they are thrown back together. Will they stay apart permanently and always be an almost?
I've been thinking about how or where to even start.... The start of this book had my heart crying!! The continuation of Lia and Bash's relationship in this book is everything I didn't know I needed. All I can say everyone got what they deserved except maybe Owen💔 Please read as soon as you can! I will definitely be placing my order for a physical copy ASAP!!
Couldn't wait to read this after the first one!! I love these characters and this book did not disappoint. Absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next!!
This series is full of flawed humans just trying to get it right, and TWISTS you won’t see coming that will keep you hooked the entire way! I loved reading their stories and can’t wait for more.
Thalia and Sebastian. Bash and Lia. What are we going to do with these two?!
I love this couple so so much but the breakup in this book is a big fat miscommunication trope and while somewhat realistic, it makes me psycho-screaming-throw kindle levels of mad. I did not enjoy the getting back together journey that followed for that reason.
On the other hand, the last half of this book picked up the story and gave me the giggles for these two again. I adore Bash so much and he proves worthy of my love on every page of the later chapters of this book. He is pookie and I adore him.
I also love how Lia remains her fiery independent self while also loving Bash and having their kid. She is hard and gentle, sassy and kind, independent and lovingly dependent. She is the dichotomy of women and I love it.

“I want nothing to do with you.” You broke my heart, is what I don’t say.
Almost, the second book in the Bad at Love duology, is an absolute must-read for anyone who loves second-chance romances! This story dives deep into the messiness of second chances and the ache of “what might have been.” Thalia and Sebastian’s story is packed with tension, nostalgia, and sizzling chemistry, making it impossible to put down. Three years after their heart-wrenching breakup, Sebastian—now a superstar quarterback—asks Thalia, his talented ex, to photograph his wedding to someone else. I mean, talk about complicated! Thalia is torn between her lingering feelings and the opportunity to be a part of his life again, especially when Sebastian promises to walk away for good if she takes the job. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and every moment is filled with tension and nostalgia that will leave you breathless. Each page pulls you further into their tangled emotions, and you’ll find yourself cheering for them to sort through the past. If you haven’t read Little Do You Know yet, definitely start there to soak up all the juicy backstory before diving into this unforgettable sequel. Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions!
A big thanks to Laurea Matthews for sending me a digital ARC of this book!
OH THE DRAMA!! I was expecting some drama with this one, but had no idea I would find it around every corner. My biggest advice for this book is don't get comfortable, because every time you do you will be so surprised. That is probably my favorite part of this one, I loved being surprised and shocked, I loved ALL the curveballs we got. I couldn't stop gasping and absolutely freaking out the entire time I was reading. It was so hard to ever put this down, it was always on my mind and I constantly wanted to know what on earth was going to happen next. I loved getting to see another side to the characters and watching them mature and really try to find themselves and deal with tough situations. I, of course, also adored the romance and was routing for them to get back together the entire book. This book gave us so much real life and I really appreciate that, because most romance books simply focus on the gooey stuff but miss out on the real life stuff. This one gave us all of that and then some, I also really loved that I went into this thinking it won't be that wild but in reality it WAS! The epilogue was absolute perfection and I am so excited that the author will be continuing with these characters in a new series!

*Possible spoilers ahead*
This is the second book in the duology and even though I hated how they broke up for a while, they came back stronger than ever and needed that time apart.
Thalia and Sebastian were together for a couple of years, but after Bash proposes and she says "not yet" he doesn't listen and ends things. Now 3 years after they've broken up Bash is getting married and his fianceé wants Thalia to photograph their wedding. Feelings are brought up between Thalia & Bash, sparks fly, and while they're both trying to move they can't now that they're back in each other's lives.
I hate how Bash was hurt by his fianceé and how things had originally gone down with Thalia but I feel that they really truly did need to spend those years apart to grow and mature into who they turned into so that when they eventually did find their way back to each other, they were the best version of themselves.
I'm so glad that the two of them were able to find their way back to each other and work through everything in the past. As well as work through what is happening to and around them as their lives go on.
"Almost" is available to read now. I'm so glad Sebastian and Thalia found their way back to each other and got their happy ending. I can't wait to read the books about their children now.
"I didn’t think it was possible to fall more in love with this man, but I was wrong." - Thalia
Absolutely obsessed with Almost by Laurea Matthews! 📚✨
This book has everything a sports romance lover could ask for, Thalia and Sebastian are the kind of couple you root for with every page. I thought at times I was a background character in the book it felt so real. When this ARC arrived on my doorstep It took everything in me to not read it all at once. I wanted to savor every moment with these two because I knew this book would be perfect.
I'll admit, it put my heart through the wringer a few times. But it was worth it for the ending these two got. Im so excited to see what els Laurea has up her sleeve - I know she’s going to break my heart a couple more times.
Thalia and Sebastian break up after an engagement mishap and don’t speak to one another until Sebastians new fiancé wants to have Thalia photograph the wedding…
You can imagine all the drama that causes when his new fiancé doesn’t exactly know everything about their past relationship.
*Thank you to Laurea for providing me with an ARC for an honest review!
When I saw that Laurea was going to rip these characters apart in the second book, I was devastated and needed this book immediately!
This book hurts. Laurea really puts Lia and Bash through the fucking ringer but man was it worth it! Their love was so obviously still there. It was clear from the moment that you started reading that these two were going to walk through fire to get back to each other.
I was so on edge throughout this book. My heart was constantly beating through my chest. I was so sad for both Lia and Bash and the hurt they caused each other.
Laurea really excelled in this book and did such a fantastic job! I am such a fan of her writing! I still think about this book every day!
Almost is the second book in the Bad At Love duology. This book was recommended to read the first book( Little Do You Know)before starting this one which I did, but I could see someone reading the second first, and still understanding the story. The story starts with an engagement gone wrong, then a fast ward 10 years. Sebastian’s calls Thalia with a favor because his fiancée wants to hire her to photograph their wedding do to the photos she took at her brothers wedding(Bash’s best friend/teammate). I will be honest the beginning had me thinking I was going to get every far, but this story has a twist that I wasn’t actually expecting. Which made me super engaged and wanting to finish the end had its own crazy twist that I actually couldn’t see coming any book that can get me to fight through like I did and I’m meaning I close the book. It just sat there for a while before I opened it again is a winner. I really recommend reading this duology by Laurea Matthews.
I absolutely adored this book. Laurea has this phenomenal capability of making you feel the emotions alongside the characters. The way this story is written, is like watching a movie. It is so easy to read, it flows well. I was excited for this after the first book, and I was so happy with how everything turned out.
Bash is so loving and doting even though he’s experienced so much loss in his young life. He is talented and smart. Thalia didn’t lose any of her spunk or firecracker personality, which I was thrilled about!
I laughed and cried throughout the story. I’m incredibly sad it’s over but am excited to see what’s next for this author! 🫶🏻
This is a beautifully written exploration of love and self-discovery. Matthews’ engaging style pulls readers into the lives of relatable characters, whose journeys resonate deeply. The story blends heartfelt moments with humor, making it an enjoyable read. With its rich themes and captivating storytelling, "Almost" is a touching reminder of the beauty in life's imperfections. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an uplifting and thoughtful book.
This was the continuation I NEEDED! Such a bittersweet ending to the duology. I'm so sad it's over!
Almost really put me through the wringer. The beginning had me STRESSED and sooo sooo angry with Bash. He really redeemed himself in the end but I still think he needed to grovel more. Honestly I'm still a teensy bit mad at him. Thalia is too sweet and forgiving and deserves the world. They both have gone through so much heartache but they never lost their love for each other. Kiera is a wreck and never deserved "Seb" (ugh that nickname 🤢). I wish we got more of the aftermath because I was FUMING for Bash but also super happy things worked out in Bash and Lia's favor.
One of my absolute favorite parts of this duology ... OWEN!!! And Blake together! But Owen even on his own is ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! I kept dying at the comments he'd make. The way him and Thalia woke up poor drunken Bash was sooo funny. Him and Blake are literally the perfect couple and I NEED MORE!!! I'm so sad that they don't have a book!
Overall, this second chance romance was so good. It wasn't as spicy as book 1 and the ending felt a little rushed (maybe because I didn’t want it to end 🥲) but I can't wait to see what else Laurea Matthews has in store!
*Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I love Bash and Lia together. It’s definitely explosive between these two and I couldn’t imagine their story ending not being together. The way Bash’s engagement ending though…..did not see that coming. I can’t wait for a next gen series for them!
I just feel like they didn’t fight for each other, at all. From Vera to Keira. Are you kidding me? “I did love Keira but I never stopped loving you” dude seriously? 😐 I kept feeling he’s a man whore throughout the story. I just kept reading because I enjoyed the angst and the author’s writing.
This was the perfect ending! I was so excited to see how Bash and Lia would be in the future, and they didn’t disappoint. I cannot wait to see what else Laurea Matthews has up next!
no because I loved them! I couldn’t put them down and ate up every moment - the growth, the learning, the remembering, the soulmatism, oh they’re so special!!
Please, for the love of God, why couldn't they have stayed broken up. This dude is a nightmare and needs therapy. She also needs therapy, because why in the actual hell would she ever agree to that type of involvement in his life? Freaks deserved each other I guess.
