Collects The Ghost-Spider (2024) #6-10. Spider-Gwen is in the 616, making new friends - and deadly new enemies! Gwen Stacy's arrival on a different Earth hasn't gone as planned. Having to keep secrets has driven a wedge between her and the other Spiders. She could use an ally - and she finds one in the form of Jessica Jones! But Ghost-Spider also has a new the Black Tarantula! He's got his web strung through all manner of crime in New York City, and it would be much easier to take him down - if it weren't for the undeniable spark between them! And as he begins his biggest and most audacious crime yet, she finds herself wondering whether he's right! With the city held in grips of fear, Gwen needs to decide which side she's on. And the secret of her multiversal relocation is about to come to light!
I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book. I wanted to rate it 4.5 stars, but I could not round it down. After the first book, I was a bit worried, but I really enjoyed this book. It might be in part to the guest star who is one of my favourite characters.
Gwen has choices to make. Maybe the friendly neighbourhood moniker is not for her. What is the alternative? Working from the shadows? Maybe someone can give her some advice? As long as it is not dating advice. How far will she go to capture the Black Tarantula? However, there are line that can be blurred, but will they be crossed?
I enjoyed that character interaction, especially the mentoring by the guest character. There are some more clues as to Gwen leaving her own Earth. I definitely want to see what is next. The book finishes with a varient covers gallery.
overall a cool story arc that managed to fumble the ending. ik we’re not COMPLETELY through with black tarantula yet, but we’re mostly moving on and i feel like it does all of the work in the previous issues a disservice. i will say that this series is doing wonders for gwen’s story arc! i feel like she’s had some good minis that always revolve around the same thing, but here we are getting something new which is refreshing.
Gwen Stacy of Earth-65 has a new home in New York City…of Earth-616. She was supposed to be in hiding, but she has somehow collected her very own new antagonist! And crossed paths with dozens of Spider-themed heroes. So much for keeping her presence under wraps.
The Black Tarantula is proving to be quite a threat, weaving his way through the criminal underground. Worse, he’s primed to make a major change in the city, and almost all that most people can do is sit and watch in fear.
Review:
I still have so many questions about what is going on in Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider, so I was excited to get back into this series. Also, I adore Gwen, so I’m happy that she landed another solo series.
Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider Vol. 2 brings familiar faces to the forefront, including Mister Fear and Jessica Jones. The latter is not something I was expecting, but I do love the idea of a Gwen x Jessica team-up. Can we get more of that, pretty please?
The romantic subplot is still in full swing, and I’m conflicted about it. On the one hand, enemies-to-lovers can work really well. On the other hand, I’m worried that the relationship won’t have enough time to develop in Gwen’s solo series. I guess only time will tell.
Overall, Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider Vol. 2 is a fascinating addition to the story. I’m curious about where it’s going to lead next, as there’s clearly at least one more (major) twist in store for us. If we’re lucky, there will be more than that.
Highlights: Ghost-Spider Now in Earth-616 Jessica Jones Cameo New Villain
Unraveled (Ghost-Spider Vol. 2) was good until the end. I like Gwen's efforts to find Black Tarantula and her work with Jessica Jones. Gwen runs into many challenges along the way. From dealing with criminals to facing her fears, she goes through many struggles. They kept the story intriguing.
I also like her work with Jessica. Their banter together is great and Jessica has great detective skills. I enjoyed their interactions together and how well they work with one another. Both are great characters and Jessica was a fun and great addition to the story.
With that said, I felt that the last couple of issues were a bit rushed and playing on old tropes. I can't go into too many details, but the dynamic between the two antagonists and Gwen's realization of who it is played on tropes that I've seen often in stories. Also, the last parts of the book moved along a bit too quickly. There was an interesting and fun twist at the end though.
Still, I enjoyed the book overall. Jessica and Gwen are awesome and I like their friendship. The story was good, albeit rushed and playing on old tropes at the end. Nevertheless, I plan to read on and am looking forward to Volume 3.
Gwen teams up with Jessica Jones, as the Black Tarantula's plot comes to light, and everything goes very, very wrong. Oopsie.
It's clear that this series is going to be telling one big 15 issue arc, because this is definitely the middle of the larger story. We get a couple of answers to questions from the last volume, and a few more questions to wrap up in the final one, but this is a satisfying read on its own. Gwen's struggles feel real, and are very uniquely hers given her history, and the artwork's gritty without being too dark - I very much like the new Black Tarantula costume. Not quite on the level of Gwen's, but still a great redesign, and it works very fluidly in the panels.
Literally, it's not. Spider-Gwen (or whatever we call her now) is living in the 616 now. She just came back to find out that Black Tarantula had hired Chameleon to destroy her name and kill her. Now, she's got to pick up all those pieces and figure out who/where Black Tarantula is and what he's planning.
There's also... potential romance(?) with a boy who (shock!) is part of the villains out to get her. At least she can lean on superhero PI, Jessica Jones for ...dating advice? ======= Bonus: I like that they're TRYING to figure out separate paths for core Spider-Verse members. Not everybody is Peter Parker.
Yeah this was even more fun than the last volume. Stephanie Phillips has been bringing me so much joy with her take on Gwen so much here. Once I finish the next volume I’m gonna reread what came next and go from there but yeah I love this a ton
I was excited for a new Ghost Spider ongoing series, it had been a while since we've had a good one. Vol 1 started out strong, imo, this volume doesn't really do it for me
The appearance of Jessica Jones has vastly improved my enjoyment of this series. I'm still wary of where this is going, especially given that ending, but I'm here for the ride.
3.5 rounded down. It wasn't bad per se, and I loved seeing Jessica, but I felt like Gwen was kind of dumb in this arc? Just felt particularly out of character.
