TITLE: Daredevil: Mayor Fisk AUTHOR(S): Charles Soule (Author), Christos Gage (Author), Ron Garney (Illustrator), Stefano Landini (Illustrator), Dan Mora (Cover Art) GENRE: Superhero/Crime Drama PAGES: 160 FORMAT: Paperback PRICE: $19.99 Hey there, book lovers! It’s your old pal, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes Loves Books Headquarters. Today, I have my review of Daredevil: Mayor Fisk. I have coffee in my system and my thinking cap on, so let’s get to it! Before I start, I want y’all to know that this is the book that is the source material for the Disney+ television show, DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN. It took me a while to find it and I am glad I did. The unthinkable has happened, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin, has become mayor of New York City. But there is something even more unthinkable happening, Matthew Murdock becomes an advisor for Fisk. What? Did I just say that? Yes, I did. What better way for Murdock/Daredevil to keep tabs on Fisk’s activities. So, let’s weigh the scales here in this fight. Murdock has his unique abilities and the law on his side. Fisk has the entire city, and he has outlawed. masked vigilantes. You would think this ties Murdock’s hands, but remember he is the son of a fighter, and he is a thinker. Where some people would be boxed in, Murdock sees no box! But there is a fly in the ointment, a serial killer who calls himself Muse. He is leaving his artwork all over the city with a unique paint. Surely this is going to put Daredevil through his paces. This book has embraced more a crime drama than a superhero book, and it excels in that. The writing is fluid and tense, and it is enhanced by some of the better artwork I have seen in a while. The artwork enhances the words, and it made me pay attention to the words on the page. There were surprising twists and turns throughout the book that led to an intense conclusion. This book is a perfect blend of art and word, and it left me wanting more! This book collected Daredevil #595-600. I give this book 5 bookmarks out of 5, and a major bookgasm!
one of my least favourite daredevil comics :( the muse arc is my favourite, i just wish they dedicated a whole story to him rather than entwining it with the mayor fisk story (his character design is so beautiful)
the character design fits the show’s casting, rather than their designs in previous comics
this being born again inspo is CLEAR AS DAY
matt wasn’t as depressed for my liking but that’s personal preference 🙄
A great Daredevil story. Charles Soule is such a consistently good writer—no matter the character or the property (Marvel, Star Wars, etc.). I also really liked the artwork. A lot of the character designs, themes, and story beats reminded me of the show. Also extremely well paced and does not drag. I would have given it 5 stars, but it ends on a cliff hanger.
This book is phenomenal. One of my favorite art styles ever, looks so cool. The story is fantastic, engaging, and has lots of action and cameos. If you like Daredevil or want to get into Daredevil for the first time this is a good book to start!
Such a cool plot, I loved keeping up with Daredevil and his many allies in this one. Each hero shone through with their own unique character despite being guests in this volume, which is impressive given each had about two lines of dialogue. This was definitely an interesting read to tackle while the race for NYC Mayor was running. It's so easy to see how Fisk became mayor given how many similarities I was hearing between his campaign and Mamdani's (even though the people themselves are not terribly alike).
