This is a love story about a king and his knight...
The popular fantasy BL with nearly 7 million views on Webtoon, available for the first time in full-color paperback and featuring a never-before-seen side story and exclusive bonus illustrations!
Polaris is king of the stars; with his celestial paint brush he breathes life into constellations, which protect his kingdom. Yildun is his loyal knight, ever at his side, but always in shadow as his station dictates him to remain unseen. Together, they will face a battle for the throne from Polaris' brother — as well as their own conflicting feelings. A love story written in the stars!
(This is my review for both volumes together as I read them at the same time... so yes I did copy and paste. Apologies!)
Beautiful artwork, not the most inventive use of paneling. Pacing was whack, and the plot didn't have much of a through-line. The hook of volume 1's blurb is resolved entirely--something that could last an entire prose novel--within half the volume. Beyond premise, the plot is sacrificed to smush characters together without much depth at all. Personally I feel that this is the product of a skilled artist without the writing chops (yet! there is always room to improve!) to produce a grand story like the one that could have been set up, but wanted to make a graphic novel/comic, it got popular online because the artwork is understandably stunning, and a publisher snapped it up on clout. It's a fresh trend in publishing that isn't one I particularly like.
Pros: -Beautiful artwork -When worldbuilding does happen, there's the potential for something cool. I found the magic system unique, the world too. -Interesting character designs
Cons: -Rapid, haphazard pacing -Lack of narrative depth as a result -Inconsistent and shallow worldbuilding + magic system despite interesting premises -Some artwork, when placed next to other panels, is too visually busy; not enough balance. -Storylines are wrapped up as quickly as they are introduced--no core narrative identity to fall back on -The two romances (I'm literally just copy and pasting this for both volumes b/c I read them at the same time) are introduced with very little chemistry, though the second one is a bit more apparent. --I'm really telling on myself as being more chronically online than I want to believe I am, but I refer to books/comics/etc. like these as--and maybe I'm projecting too many theories about the behind the scenes--victims of scrunklification... a creator takes their scrunklies [OCs] and makes a body of work for them, and because they love them, they miss a lot of the things that are needed in the picture to make a solid story for their very cool character ideas! There is a cure for scrunklification, which is a heavy lesson in kill-your-darlings, good conflict, and the structure of a scene. As someone who once had this issue... there is hope.
Endnote: I really do like the art style--I hope this creator continues to make comics and hopefully we will watch them grow and improve and do some really cool things!
While this volume still has some issues with the plot hopping, there is a lot more substance in this volume as a whole along with the continuing beautiful art. The additional depth to the characters and the resolution of the star beast conflict give it enough added weight that I rated this one slightly higher overall. It could be argued that the story isn't necessarily over entirely given Polaris and Yildun still keep their relationship a secret in the kingdom, but they have a few in the know that are supportive and seem to have found their peace for the moment. There is a lot of potential in the intricacies and the unique worldbuilding here that could really be expanded upon and turned into something even greater if the author were so inclined, but as it is currently, is still an enjoyable piece and a quick read.

As lovely as the first part. I'm going to miss Polaris and Yildun. Tokyopop edition is great, but my book has some guillotining issues 🥹. If you want to know if this story is for you, you can Read it legally and for free in Tapas app or the author's IG. (There there's also some cute extra content 😁).
As far as the plot is concerned, this was much better than Volume 1! Much more action and way less scattered! I still loved the art and the characters, and the ending was so sweet! I'm glad Polaris and Yildun got their happy ending!
LOVE THIS! Omg so cute. The art is great the secret relationship is so cute. I loved seeing the relationships between multiple characters grow. The first volume was an impulse buy and I was so excited to find the second volume at a convention to tell the author how much I loved it.
This was such a great second volume! I love how strong and capable Polaris is and how easily Yildun complements him. I died over Polaris being taken and hurt and how Yildun went after him and protected him. I love the two of them to no end.
I really enjoyed getting so much of Alcor and Mirach! I died over their entire story and how they fell into bed and then became friends and how Alcor fought for him. They were so cute and amazing and I loved getting to see their story! I need so much more of all of these characters!
