Boyfriends. is the polyamorous story of a jock, a nerd, a prep, and a goth who are learning to love one another and make a four-person relationship work in their own sweet way. Through navigating the adventures of dating life, the boyfriends come to understand themselves and each other better.
The boys have just taken a huge step: moving in together! This means some major milestones for the polycule, like learning how to share a space, cooking for one another, and finding a dream couch that will fit all four of them. As their polyam relationship matures, the guys also work through some insecurities, evolve their understandings of gender, and learn about expressing and accepting love.
There’s always plenty of space for joy when the boyfriends are together though, from cuddling, to gaming, to anime conventions, to competing to be the ultimate malewife.
Laugh-out-loud funny and always heartwarming, Boyfriends. is filled to the brim with moments of pride big and small.
Collects episodes 149–200 of the delightful WEBTOON comic Boyfriends.
I’m so happy that I picked up these books. They have everything that I love: queer people, bright colors, and a fun plot. The story is not only funny and sweet, but unlike any other book that I’ve read. This has a poly quad who not only live together, but are successfully there for each other and share their time equally. These characters are relationship goals!!
We’re now 4 volumes in and I can’t get enough of them.
Thank you to WebToon Unscrolled and WattPad Books for sending me a finished copy of the book.
I love this series so much! I loved seeing the boys finally move in together and getting a little more depth from each of the characters. This comic is so special to me <3
This series is really cute and wholesome with pretty artwork and a host of different LGBT representations that are done mostly well. A little fetishised and over the top at times but it's a gay adult author writing about gay/bi/pan adults so I don't really care?
Only thing is that this does get quite stale at times with how repetitive and samey it is. I wasn't expecting a huge plot or masterpiece but it does feel a little tired. I'm maybe hoping for some more development and depth in future volumes
THIS IS THE CUTEST STORY EVER! Based on author/artist refrainbow’s Webtoon of the same name, we experience the lives of 4 characters (who don’t have names; keeping it more relatable since you can see yourself in the characters) as they start living together - this follows the events of the third volume. This story has so much representation and phenomenal queer experiences that I’m blown away every time I re-read it.
The colour palette was a breath of fresh air and perfectly conveys the relaxed vibe of the story. It also makes the characters more personable and 3 dimensional because the colours are constantly intersecting with their personalities (this is most visible with our goth-like character). Throughout each volume these characters navigate through their attraction to each other and what do you do if you love more than 1 person equally.
There is bisexual, pansexual, gay, transgender, lesbian, butch, and non-binary representation and it is truly beautiful how refrainbow does this with complete balance. Even as someone who is aro/ace, I felt there was representation of my experiences through what the characters go through and how they question themselves as they learn more about what makes them them.
‘Boyfriends’ is adorable and perfect for people who want a lighthearted LGBTQ+ story or are fans of cozy cutsey reads!
Thank you @netgalley and @Wattpad Webtoon book group for giving me access to Volume One, Three and Four (I read Volume Two through the library). I would have likely never found this game changing series if it wasn’t posted on Netgalley. You can bet I will be purchasing personal copies when my book buying ban (which is not going well lol) ends. Volume Four is released on June 3, 2025, which gives you plenty of time to read the other 3 volumes in preparation!
I’ve been (impatiently) waiting for volume 4 to drop, so I was definitely fangirling when I got approved for this ARC!
This installment of the series follows the boys as they move into their first apartment together and learn how to navigate cooking, cleaning, and coexisting under one roof. There’s a lot of sweet wholesome moments, as well as some more vulnerable ones where they work through various conflicts together. I love how supportive the boys are of each other’s interests, the cosplay and fashion show scenes were especially adorable! Lastly, I really enjoyed seeing more of the guys’ relationship dynamics within both the polycule and their one-on-one interactions with each other.
So if you’re looking for a cutesy fluffy BL graphic novel that will have you giggling and kicking your feet, look no further than the Boyfriends series!
Thank you for the ARC NetGalley! I can’t wait to pick up a physical copy for my collection this summer 🩵
P.S. I propose a Girlfriends series featuring their baddie group of friends next 👀
4.25 stars. I really liked the Jock’s storyline in this one as well as getting to see the relationship as they are living together. They dynamics that they have with each other have always been sweet, but now they are developing even more and they are getting more spicy. I did get annoyed when I thought that we would finally get to see a name of one of the characters just for it to be blacked out.
Took me a little longer than planned to finish but so worth it. I loved the Boyfriends. Series it is so fun to read. I'm so glad the Polycule worked out in the end and they got a happy ending. Bun is my favorite and the cutest. I won't spoil anything. Highly recommend.
The boyfriends move in together, the art keeps getting better, and their bonds grow stronger as they work through their feelings, new developments, and new obstacles. It's the cozy pastel light in these bleak times.
Hat Spaß gemacht mal wieder. Wie immer ist irgendwie das Bonus-Material das Beste an dem ganzen. Ich weiß auch nicht, diese Charaktere brauchen irgendwie keine große Story.
After book 3, I was excited that we were expanding on the backstories of the boys, and in volume 4 we got a little more plot progression as well! Moving in together, the relationships moving forward, gender identity questions, and more. Unfortunately, we also spent a few chapters focused on the girls and their characters just aren’t as interesting to me since they’re basically copy and paste of the boys. Then towards the end it felt like we started to regress back into Volume 2 territory where we sacrifice plot for cuteness.
Le iba a dar 2 ⭐ porque sentía que la trama seguía estancada sin ningún tipo de conflicto... Pero en los últimos capítulos hubo alguna trama interesante (que me gustaría que se desarrollara mucho más) que me hizo darle 3 al final.
Damn these bitches gay!!! Good for them, good for them.
I really liked this installment. With this series you have to know what you're getting into: 100% fluff, plot-lite (sometimes plot-nonexistent lol), sickeningly cute, occasionally-cringe Internet slang. And that's sometimes exactly what I need between "serious" reads. "Boyfriends" fills a pastel-colored hole in my heart that yearns for coziness and uncomplicated love.
That being said, I like that each subsequent volume gets a little bit more depth than the last! I won't get into spoilers, but I felt like all the characters (with maybe the exception of Goth) got interesting character development building on what we learned about them in previous volumes. It's nice to see such a fluffy, nonserious series have some continuing plot threads; it makes each installment that much more special. And, of course, the art was SO pretty. It probably took me double the time to read this than I would have otherwise because I kept flipping back to stare at my favorite panels multiple times. It's peak, I fear.
Here is the thing - this is one of my favorite series ever but I will say that the E-ARC of this was impossible to appreciate. The art is blurred a bit and then there is a huge distracting watermark on the pages. I understand wanting to protect the work but also I’ve read dozens of E-ARC graphic novels without any of these precautions. That being said I am not going to force myself to read this until I can get my hands on a physical copy - reading it as I have it now would ruin the experience for me. Rating 5 stars because this will no doubt be a perfect read for me once I can focus on the story and the art as it was meant to be seen. (ARC provided by NetGalley)
This latest installment was a bit less compelling for me than the previous ones. It's beginning to feel a lot more tell than show when it comes to the relationship dynamics. The artwork is still very adorable and I did chuckle many times. It's becoming a bit repetitive and losing some steam is all. I'll still likely read the next volume.
Thanks to NetGalley and WEBTOON Unscrolled for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Boyfriends. by refrainbow continues to be a cozy comfort series for me. While it started as just a silly, kind of tropey queer rom-com about four college students trying out being in a polycule, it's been very heartwarming to see them grow and mature, especially with the increasing emphasis on healthy relationships. I've also appreciated that as the series continues, the creator has chosen to move away from the trope style (though not entirely) and begin placing heavier focus on fleshing out the characters themselves. This is still meant to be a light series, so don't expect anything too in-depth, but there's still a lot to explore. In this volume, the main polycule members move in together and learn what that new level of domesticity means for them. Certain characters must face various individual emotional insecurities, and while Goth was already clearly trans (woot woot!), someone else also begins more openly questioning their gender as well.
Though I used to mainly read this comic online on Webtoon (and do still occasionally dive back in), there is also finally new content in print that I haven't previously seen, so this was extra exciting. For several reasons, this is a great series to read during Pride Month (or really, any time of the year). It's perfect for comic fans who like light, silly fluff, and the pastel color palette adds to the vibe! It's been great fun to see the creator grow--perhaps refrainbow's horror works will be next? In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to Volume 5!
Readers may also enjoy: Muted by Miranda Mundt, Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao, Castle Swimmer by Wendy Lian Martin, Love on the Horizon by Machi Yamashita, Tripping Over You by Suzana Harcum and Owena White, And They Were Roommates by Page Powars, and A Song for You & I by Kay O'Neill.
Thank you so much to Wattpad Books for sending me a free copy of this graphic novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Boyfriends by Refrainbow is a graphic novel series that was originally published on Webtoons and has now been re-released in bound volumes by Wattpad books. This follows the four boyfriends as they are finally all moving in together for the first time. They continue to navigate some personal insecurities in this volume along with some deeper topics. There is a discussion of gender identity and expression in this volume which I felt was well handled and showed the other boyfriends being supportive. I appreciated just how open and accepting they all were of each other's issues, but most importantly, of the idea that the others exploring their identities.
We get more exploration into each of the boyfriends' internal lives in this volume and we also get to know more of the backstory or past history between prep and goth who were previously childhood best friends. It was a really sweet story and I found myself surprised at the depth and range of the topics explored here when compared to some of the earlier volumes. I think that this graphic novel series was perfect to read in Pride month but these would be great to read any time of the year!
This was so adorable!!! I loved it so much 🥺 The boyfriends make my heart feel warm and fuzzy 💖
As always, what I appreciate the most about this series is its focus on the characters communicating to solve their problems. Their relationship is far from perfect, but they always make the time and give each other space to deal with what they're feeling. This is especially evident in the chapter where Jock is trying to navigate his own insecurities, and the one where Nerd is trying to figure out their gender identity. The characters don't magically and automatically say the right thing or figure out why they feel the way they do, but they still lean on each other to navigate the situation.
Something else I really enjoy about the series is how it shows that growth is not always linear. For example, Prep struggles with feelings of inadequacy. He sometimes has bad days, and feelings start to overhwhelm him, but not only do his boyfriends support him, but he also finds ways to try to change, so he no longer feels this way.
It really is such a wholesome series! I love it 💖 I hope the creator comes up with a new story soon🤞🏼
the polite perfection is grating. i’m all for characters having healthy conversations and i don’t take issue with characters saying or doing the right thing, but these characters are always so polite and it feels like they’re reciting therapy talking points instead of having normal conversations.
rep; goth bf/felix is trans, gay, polyamorous, and chinese. jock bf/kevin is bisexual, polyamorous, and vietnamese. nerd bf/adrian is a pansexual, polyamorous, and japanese demiboy. prep bf/vincent is gay, polyamorous, and singaporean.
For those who love LGBTQIA+ romance and slice-of-life stories, this is a comic about four college students who begin a polyamorous relationship and navigate the adventure that is their dating life.
I caught up with Volumes 1-3 of Boyfriends and got acquainted with the “jock, nerd, goth, and the prep” as they worked their way through their soap opera lives. These are light, fluffy, fun, and humorous reads. The plot is straightforward, and the illustrations are colorful and easy to read.
In Boyfriends, the boys all move in together! With varying personalities, they all have to learn how to live together and share their space, as well as learn how to be in a poly relationship.
The series has been pretty addictive for me, in a soap opera way. It was fun, and again, I loved the illustrations.
I loved following the webtoon and I'm so glad I finally get to have the physical copy of this series. I know that each one of them represents different stereotypical caricatures, considering that their names are literally Goth, Jock, Prep, and Nerd, but it's crazy insane how I can relate to each and every single one of them. I really feel like I'm a good mix of everyone.
I cried when it came to Jock's issues in here, because I totally resonate with feeling like I'm being put on a pedestal. I cried when I saw how Nerd's egg was cracking; it was so cute. In previous volumes, I cried when it came to Prep feeling useless and not having a lot of skills and being a spoiled brat, I FELT that so hard. I more or less resonate with Goth more in the transmasc way, not so much in the ace and depressed way haha. Seriously, why and how am I practically all of them?? I can't wait until more of it comes out! I want more!!!

Refrainbow brings back Jock, Prep, Nerd and Goth as this polycule moves into their apartment together. From furniture mishaps, fashion shows, serious chats, future plans, self-doubt, and gender identity crammed into this story of love, hope and support, as only they can tell us.
Now, I know that even if this is the end of a Boyfriends series, I wish that I had been more interested in the cosplay side of the story or of Jock's sister's story (I genuinely wasn't. I only wanted the Guys!)
Refrainbow does a great job of blending and separating each strong personality with looks, innuendos, implications, wit and a good dose of heart. The artwork is very good too, Refrainbow has created a beautiful world of characters and appearances. Loved that!
Thanks to NetGalley and WEBTOON for providing me with a digital ARC
This was my first encounter with the series, and I found the topic to be intriguing and thought-provoking. It's refreshing that not many series explore polyamorous relationships, and I believe this one did an excellent job of addressing the theme with both sensitivity and charm. The art is delightful, featuring vibrant images that are visually captivating, while the storyline is infused with a genuine warmth that resonates. Overall, it struck a perfect balance between lightheartedness and deeper emotional connections, making it a truly enjoyable experience.
Came for the art style, stayed for the boys! Another great installment of one of my favorite series, vol.4 was such a fun expansion on growing into yourself and your relationships. I will always be a fan of how this author writes about relationship dynamics, and not just romantic ones! I found myself really identifying with the theme of insecurities in this volume and really enjoyed how the author showed how the same things can affect people so differently. I’ll always recommend these books to anyone, just such a good read!
In this book, the boys have finally moved in together and are now learning to navigate life under the same roof. It’s definitely a learning curve for all of them, with a few issues popping up along the way. It’s always fun to see what they’ll do next as they figure out their relationship and how to live together. I still absolutely love the art in this series—it captures their personalities so well and brings their dynamic to life!
