Cora Wilder never dreamed her world could collapse—let alone twice.
When an asteroid strike decimates the country, Cora Wilder and her family flee aboard their 32-foot sailboat, seeking refuge from the fallout on the open water. But during a fateful trip ashore, the unthinkable happens when a ruthless gang kidnaps her sister, leaving Cora and her father grappling with an impossible stay together for safety, or split up to cover more ground. In a moment that will forever define their lives, the decision is made—he'll scour the shoreline aboard their sailboat, while she heads inland on foot, determined to save her sister...or die trying.
Venturing into the lawless interior, Cora forges an unexpected alliance with Zee, a lone wolf haunted by the loss of his own family to the same ruthless gang. United by their shared pain in a desperate race against time, they brave a brutal landscape where morality has long been replaced by the primal need to survive. Together, they face the unforgiving disaster of this new world, soon discovering every choice can lead them down one of two a step closer to rescuing her sister, or further away from who they once were.
From award-winning author Jordan Barnes comes Dead Coast, a post-apocalyptic survival thriller that navigates sacrifice, savagery, and the unbreakable bonds of family. Set against the treacherous backdrop of the Pacific Northwest waters, this propulsive first installment in The Shoreline series is perfect for fans of Station Eleven, The Last of Us, and A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World.
Jordan P. Barnes is a grateful alcoholic & addict in recovery and Sand Island Treatment Center is his home group. When he’s not sharing his experience, strength and hope through writing or talking story, he enjoys bodysurfing and gardening. Residing in beautiful Kailua, Hawaiʻi with his lovely wife Chelsea and two sons, Jordan has been sober from all mind and mood-altering substances since August 29th, 2011. Jordan is a member of the Hawaiʻi Writers’ Guild and his debut book, One Hit Away: A Memoir of Recovery won 2020’s “Best Book of the Year” award from www.IndiesToday.com, was a B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree as well as a finalist in both the 15th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards and the 2021 Independent Author Network Book of the Year Awards.
Jordan Barnes is my favorite author and I was excited to see him switch gears into a new genre. Dead Coast is a post apocalyptic thriller set on the coast and in the waters of the PNW. The plot was exciting and the story was filled with well-developed characters. I cannot wait to read the next book in The Shoreline series.
Dead Coast and its accompanying prequel are a triumphant entry into the post-apocalyptic genre. The prequel does a great job explaining how the world was destroyed and is recommended before the book. The last 3 members of the family survive on their boat, scavenging to stay alive. A seeming ally turns on the family, separating one of the sisters, sending the other in a desperate bid to save her, while their father fights to keep ahead of a violent group called 'Gulls'. A different, actual ally emerges with a crossbow. Dead Coast is character driven, emotionally charged and is about as good as books get. It might be beak, but that doesn't mean it is no exceptional in every way. The wait for the sequel, "Deep Water" is going to be is going to be a long one. If Dead Coast is any indication, Barnes could become a major player in post-apocalyptic fiction.
What a great first post Apocalyptic book . I was very impressed with the writing. What a great storyline with rich characters. I couldn’t put the book down! My only regret is I have to wait for book 2 in the series. 5 stars I highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a great start to the series. The story moves at a good pace and the characters are well developed. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book.
I have read many post apocalyptic books' but I must say this was so different then most. The reading was fast paced and the characters were very life like.
This is a book I highly recommend if you want something different in this genre.

This is a really great read! A really good continuation of the story following the same main characters as the prequel & oh what an adventure! Really well written, I was pulled into the fast paced & exciting storyline. Some nasty moments, so not for the faint hearted but I found it was a really amazing read & a great addition to this genre!
Great storyline! Loved the characters! Novel idea. However, Amazon & BookFunnel will not allow me to download the prequel without a password from an account I no longer remember, even though I have a password in my hand written logbook. So, I wanted to read more but cannot because of the strict reactions from a free download from the GIANTS! Great job, Jordan!!!
This was an ok post apocalyptic story with its different environment of a sailing vessel. I am not a fan of the different chapter to tell the story from the viewpoint of different characters. Spoiler alert not everyone survives which I admire because it makes for a more realistic story. Also the author’s history of a recovering addict shows up in the story along with his faith.
A great start to an apocalyptic series. Plenty of action, some conflicts of conscience, great visual descriptions and engaging characters. Nothing missing here. I'm certainly looking forward to the next episode.
This is more of a Christian morality tale than a dystopian adventure. So if that's to your taste, this is a well written book with beautifully descriptive prose. The amount of philosophizing made the action a bit slow for me rather than enhancing the story. The characters were fully developed with their morality tested along with their survival skills.
