Worst. Route. Ever. Being reincarnated as an otome game villainess is hard enough, but fate sure didn't hold back on stacking the odds against Cecelia. Her engagement is broken off, the heroine is harassing her, and she's forced to work in a brothel! To make matters worse, her first customer is none other than the heroine's childhood friend and debaucherous leader of the Imperial Guard, Duke Lucas Herbst. Terrified, Cecelia finds herself relentlessly pursued, only to wake up the next day in his mansion--marked as his fiancee?! Bound to this unhinged knight, the troubled villainess must endure his obsessive love. But is his intoxicating affection a curse...or is it a blessing in disguise?
Unhealthy relationship? Check. Anatomically bizarre and overwritten sex scenes? Check. Borderline rape romance? Check. Yep, this book ticks all of my boxes for something I didn't enjoy.
Not sure what I was expecting when I picked this up, but while it’s not terrible or anything, there are way to many issues for it to be enjoyable. I can ignore the questionable circumstances marking the start of Cecilia and Lucas’ relationship, even if it involves her getting sold to a brothel and him buying her. I’m also fine with his do-S yandere traits, even if it makes him feel like an outdated otome game trope from the 2010s. It’s still within the tolerable realm for me, really. But everything else? The heavily unbalanced ratio of plot and smut? The fact that Cecilia and Lucas mostly bang and barely talk, so the relationship has no depth? The way they fall in love at the speed of light? The inner monologue that strives to be funny but falls flat most of the time? The super stilted translation?
Nope.
There’s also absolutely no reason for this to be a reincarnation story. It plays no part in the plot aside from just making it easy to gloss over character introductions and even the general flow of the story. You could take out the whole reincarnation aspect entirely and it wouldn’t change a single thing, so it just feels like lazy writing.
Honestly if you just want smut and don’t care about plot, you’ll probably love this. I just prefer something that has a bit more story rather than just pages and pages of mindless sex scenes, even for light novel standards. A bit sad to drop this because the art is gorgeous, but plenty of better villainess books out there.
Overall main female character (and all the dialogues) feel like they were written by a 13 year old... and not in a good way... Can't even say the smut was worth the terrible inner monologue of the main female lead, or any of the dialogues between characters. I'm used to way better quality/standards from Seven Seas Entertainment. This book was a total let down. I get it's from their "steamship" collection, but that shouldn't be an excuse!

I have this as a DNF for now, but who knows maybe I’ll come back to finish it one day.
The introduction to this series was rather concerning, but I was able to push past it. Our FL was sold to a brothel, and her first customer is a man who’s clearly obsessed with her. So, when he barges in, stating that he paid for her for the whole night and instantly demands she takes her clothes off… again I didn’t like it, but I felt like it was going to go SOMEWHERE.
After all of the incredibly aggressive sexーliterally he bites her breast until she bleeds multiple timesーshe passes out. He wastes no time and drags her body like a rag doll to his residence.
There, the poor girl wakes up confused and surrounded by blushing servants. Yesterday, she fell asleep as a prostitute, and today she’s woken up in her first customers house. While she’s still trying to come to terms with the violations she faced the previous nightーagain, the sex was INCREDIBLY roughーthe servants are gushing about what a good sexy time she probably had with their master.
Literally, can no one read the room? Shes sat up all but sobbing and in shock, and the girls are giggling around her.
Side noteーit’s revealed that all of the maids are out through training so that they can help the would-be wife of the house blindfolded. Because his entire family knows that should he get married, he would force her to go through physically abusive sex. Rather than get him some therapy, they just decide to not let anyone else see the abuse. Lovely.
The master then barges into the room to tell our FL that it’s HER FAULT that he was so rough with her, she’s just “too naughty”. And he says it in front of a room full of servants, and tries to go right back in for more sex.
Thankfully he’s soon kicked out of the room, but it’s here that we learn what ultimately was the final red flag for me. It turns out our FL was never actually a prostitute. She was given room and board in a brothel for her own safety while some politics played out. She was never ever expected to sleep with anyone. No one told her this though, so she genuinely thought she was going to have to sleep with men for money.
The ML orchestrated this, so he barged into her room LYING that he paid for her, and demanded she have sex with him. She, thinking she had no choice now that she was a prostitute, agreed. While it was always rape, this just made it so much worse for me. I genuinely hate him so much.
In the background he gets her father’s permission to marry her (I guess all the men in this world suck), so she has no choice but to marry her rapist.
Oh, he also further violates her body by putting a seal on her while she’s asleep. One that would literally propel any man slightly interested in her should they approach her with flirty intentions. It’s okay though, because subconsciously she wants it, he explains to her.
Just, a big, big no from me.

The Villainess and the Demon Knight is a pretty lengthy book, compared to the other light novels I have read. I would say a good portion of the book is smut and I have no complaints there. I liked the premise of the story. I love a good reincarnated storyline and I love an obsessive Hero. Even though a lot of the boxes were checked, I just couldn't get sucked into the storyline.
I love a damsel in distress storyline, but after reading 380 pages of submissive writing, even I started to get annoyed. And I LOVE submissive writing too! Cecelia is reincarnated, but honesty, it has no point in the story. She doesn't really use any of that to her advantage, so I am not sure why that was written in.
Lucas is very obsessive, to the point where it's a little unreasonable? If this was a dark book, I would be all for locking her up and throwing away the key (that doesn't actually happen, but he does sort of lock her up). To be honest, Cecelia is just there to be with Lucas, she doesn't really serve any other purpose.
The entire volume is about Cecelia accepting Lucas feelings and his crazy appetite for sex. Yes, he fucks her until she passes out and doesn't wake up for days (that is kind of funny to me).
I'm not sure if I will continue the series, because I can't really get into the world building. I think the book focuses too much on Cecelia accepting Lucas, instead of them just living their best life and giving me interesting story arcs. I'll have to think about volume 2.
To start, I am not giving a low rating to this book because it was poorly written. It was actually fairly well written. Mostly I am giving it a low rating because I was expecting a light novel and got a book of smut. Don’t get the wrong idea. There is nothing wrong with smut. I just wasn’t expecting this book to be so much of it. I’ve never read a proper romance novel. Or to be more precise, a spicy “romance” novel. But I imagine a lot of them are what this book is. Tons and tons of sex and not a whole lot of storytelling outside of the sex — I am sure there are some that feature well developed storytelling, but I expect many are mostly sex bits. Frankly I feel like this title should not have been marked as a light novel and instead should be shelved in the romance section. This “story” was effectively pages and pages and pages of sex with very little occurring in between those pages other than to get us from one sex scene to another. If you like stories with lots and lots of sex and not a whole lot of plot, you are going to love this book. Absolutely love it. Unfortunately for me, that is not what I was desiring. I am going to be one and done with this series. There is definitely an audience for this, but I am not it.
Wow I should have read the reviews… its rape on page
-⭐️ Forced prostitution -⭐️ FL is absolutely terrified of ML -⭐️ ML is obsessed with FL’s virginity and lack of experience -⭐️ ML threatens FL with a sword to kiss him -⭐️ Toxic and obsessive ML -⭐️ ML started to rape FL after passing out -⭐️ ML stopped so he could break FL’s hymen when she was awake
I stopped there. Surprised and upset I even made it that far.
Dnf. Noped out in the first or second chapter when the main character is sold to a brothel and purchased for her first night by the smirking ML. Her reaction? 'It's by the hour.' Deleted with prejudice. This is the opposite of why 'villainess' novels can be simple fun--the autonomy of the MC. I don't usually review light novels, but this one was too creepy not to.
i still cannot believe i looked the cashier in the eyes when i bought this. honestly, reading the back, i knew what to expect but didn’t know what do expect, if that makes sense. i haven’t even finished but i really don’t need to. this might as well be porn without plot, i cant even bring myself to dedicate more than 15 minutes at a time to this. the nicknames bring me to TEARS.
I love this series in manga and really wanted and tried to enjoy the light novel but it didn't knock my socks off. Read the manga its better and the art is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! 😍
it's smut, so don't use your brain to think of the plot. i gave up after half of the book. continuing just because i'm curious if there is any end for this story, because i think the first book is enough already.
