Matilda Oliver and Dominic Hart fell in love as teenagers.

After eight years apart, when Matilda returns to their coastal hometown of Skelney Creek, Dominic is devastated to learn that she cannot stand him, and he has no idea why.

Determined to get his girl back and live the life they’d always planned on, Dom enlists the help of his brother and Matilda’s mother to bring her back on side, while also trying to get to the bottom of who is stealing from the cash drawer in his pub—The Seahorse.

With each shovel of the spade into the bottomless hole he's digging on Matilda's absence, Dom finds the universe biting back, threatening the possibility of his happily ever after.

A hometown costal romance

Matilda - Met Dom at school, to start with they wasn't friends, Matilda's mum and Dom's dad got together.
Madilda and Dom became very good friends, as did Jack's brother.

Dom - Started to become friends with Matilda more since their parents were together.
Their parents split up and those feelings grew.

Dom and Matilda had gotten together as a couple, as did her best friend and Dom's brother. Everything was going well for them minus the beatings Dom and his brother took from their father.

Dom and matilda went their separate ways to Oxford and London to college, it was on the understanding that they would find their way back together.

Dom took over the pub his father once owened and was taking care of his brother, he didn't get a chance to get back to Matilda.
Matilda came back to her hometown after having falling down their stairs and loosing her memory, she hated Dom and he wasn't sure why, he was determined to find out why.

He learned that she had a fall which had took her memory away from her, he made sure he had that determination to win her back.

There is just the right amount of spice in this novel!

This was a beautifully written novel, it flipped between past and present day between both characters.

You get to see two characters fall back in love again, bringing their relationship back.
Matilda finally got her memory back and remembered everything of her life.

This was the first book by this author I have read and will most certainly not be the last! I loved this story from start to finish!

- Small town romance
- Best friends
- One true love
- Memory loss
- Coastal living
- Happy ever after

I really enjoyed this book and thought the storyline in itself was sweet, two people rediscovering each other and falling in love twice despite life's challenges.
The time jumps were easy to keep up with, both main and side characters likeable - I'd love to see a little peak into Hannah and Jack's HEA - and I enjoyed the letters aspect. Felt the ending was perhaps a little rushed with everything suddenly coming together, but that sometimes happens with a good book!
Overall a lovely read and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Such a cute read with so many powerful themes, so effortlessly written!

I love how much this loves love, one direction and books!

Really enjoyed the idea of love conquers all and no spoilers but a HEA is my favourite 🫶

I had really high hopes for this book going in but sadly it didn't work for me. Matilda and Dom are a couple for a lengthy period of time throughout school (Academy, College, High School) but when it comes time to go off to college/university (60 miles apart so an hour travelling), despite being madly in love with each other, they deem the only option is to break up (without a conversation about it really). But not only that, they decide the best way to see it through is to NEVER speak to each other but that once they finish Uni they will meet up again and live happily ever after. It just didn't make sense.

Anyway, we then have them meeting up again 8 years later (not the 3/4 originally planned) still having never spoken in that time and knowing nothing about the others life despite having mutual friends and Matilda has amnesia and has no memory of her time with Dom. He is all, it's always been you and you were always my end game and professing his ongoing love for her (except for that period at Uni where despite knowing he was going to get back with Matilda he sowed his wild oats right, left and centre and everywhere in between). Matilda moved on too but only with one long term partner who she led on knowing she had no intention of sticking with him because…you guessed it she was still madly in love with Dom!

The crazy in the last 10% of the book with the bar staff member and her ex-boyfriend just dove this one off a cliff for me!

For this book to have worked

- The separation didn't make sense and if they both loved each other as much as the author wanted us to believe and that the other was always end game neither would have moved on;
- If they did move on then it needed to be a drunken mistake where they felt too much guilt. It felt too much like cheating to me despite how the author tried to convey it as a mature break up;
- The not speaking was just madness as there is no way you wouldn't stay in contact or at least find out about each other from your mutual friends (his brother was dating her best friend);
We are supposed to believe no-one thought to tell him she was in a coma and had amnesia?

[no spoilers] Dreamy, beautiful, emotional, and a bit spicy!

Dominic and Matilda are childhood sweethearts in an idyllic small town, until it’s time for university and they decide to amicably break up, for now. When they cross paths again in their late 20s, Dominic is thrilled to reconnect but Matilda… hates his guts?!

Little by little the puzzle pieces come together as Dominic learns what he must do to win back the trust and love of Matilda.

This story is dual POV, with clearly marked flashbacks that will have you piecing together the puzzle alongside both Dominic and Matilda. This is a dreamy and atmospheric romance with relatable main characters that will make it impossible to put down the story until you’re done! This also is the perfect remedy to tide you over until Vikki’s next Bennett Siblings book comes out. 5 stars! ❤️
