One goal: Hunt the demon that killed my family. Make that two goals: Survive.

It's been over a year since Director Greene recruited me to join the CGE. Things aren't exactly going as planned. I've been chased down by demons, I survived a vampire bite when no one ever has before, and last Phase, I found a demon that liked me because of my DNA. The thing is, I liked it back and I don't know why.

I was convinced this year couldn't be any worse, but I was wrong. Almost everyone is scared of me or hates me. People are saying I'm dangerous. They're calling me a freak and a demon.

And I can't argue with them when I think they might be right.

Lanie Jordan writes stories. Sometimes her characters drive her crazy, but then she gets her revenge by making their lives more difficult. Fictional payback is fun.

I love the Breed series and Breed of Havoc simply added to that love. In Breed of Havoc, we're really seeing how the character of Jade has grown. From book 1, I've adored her snarky inner commentary, often self-directed, but now that snark is coming out more and more in dialogue as she becomes more social and comfortable.

Jade and Linc are now in a relationship which has grown out of friendship and is one of the few teenage/dystopian/angsty relationships where I feel these two would've still fallen in love eventually under other, more normal circumstances. The bond between them is strong and the focus is mostly on dealing with the complications of being demon hunters in love like what happens when the one you love is in danger? But what if that is their job?

Jade is also trying to learn more about her demon DNA and what that means for her and for the human race. Let's just say, I never saw the events in the last third of the book coming and when they did, I couldn't read quickly enough.

I enjoyed these three books enough to wish the story line to continue. The problem is this book ends on a cliff hanger with a traitor/mole in the institute and no answer about Creeper and his people or what Project Faith is and what is Brian's deal? The writer apparently has a block with the following book Breed of Discovery and it is three years and counting for answers. Writers should really answer every question raised in a book...in that book. It is not fair to readers to try to dangle a carrot for the next sale when there is every chance you might never actually be able to produce the promised and necessary conclusion. If it looks like you cannot actually complete the book then post a recap and just give the answers and put us out of our misery.

Dear Lanie,

You have yet to disappoint me. Okay, maybe I am disappointed a little bit. But mostly because A) the book finished (WAH, I want to cry! I was hoping it would never end!), and B) Director Green didn't welcome Jade into the next phase at the very end of the book. But, whatever, I'll get over it. But mostly now I don't have anything else to read in this series, and I have to wait until you finish the next book before I can read it. Boo. Again, I guess I can get over it...

So, like I was saying, this book was amazing. As usual, I couldn't put it down. There was even more action in this one, and I actually found myself getting really into it this time. I probably shouldn't admit that I (unsuccessfully) tried to do some of the moves myself, so I won't do that. Especially since I am super uncoordinated and that would only result in some kind of damage to my body and them having to explain to some children why their teacher has a huge bruise on her arm... but I digress...

The best line in the book, hands down: << "Don't blame me if you can't handle her." Brian shrugged, grinning again. "I can." >> I thought I was going to die laughing during this whole scene (which was awesome and one of my favorites!), which was kind of awkward since I was on a mostly empty train at the time and drawing a lot of attention to myself from the seven or so other people who had the misfortune of being there with me.

I also kind of love the cliffhangers you left us with: what's up with Doc? (Groan... seriously, I didn't intend for any pun there!) She has a crush on someone, doesn't she? What was the secret that she was going to tell Jade but then never got a chance? GAH! WHAT IS IT!?!? TELL ME NOW!!! And there is something else with Brian going on... maybe he really does think he can handle Jade better than Linc can... heh heh.. I like it. And let's not even mention the little bug that was planted: could CGE really be the bad guys?!?!? Whoa... mind blown... And ADAM!?!?! Every scene he was present had me sitting on the edge of my seat... in excitement, anticipation, and then in fear. Way to manipulate my emotions there, Lanie. With just one minor character. Do you have any idea how the rest of these guys are getting to me!?!?

Okay, I am exaggerating a bit now, but seriously, you have such a way with characters. They're very real to me. I love them, if I haven't said that before.

Can't wait for the epic 4th! Happy writing!

Your devoted fan,

Still going strong with the plot and character-building. I approve.

This third book in the Breed chronicles starts off as all Lanie's books do; with the beginning of a new Phase. It's Phase three now and Jade is not starting the year off well. She has more than allies; everyone is either terrified of her or they despise her for what she is. Jade finds herself hard-pressed to keep out of trouble, especially when she finds herself getting furious at the smallest annoyances.

Jade's strength and speed are greatly improving, along with her sense of "sight," though when she shouldn't be able to see in certain circumstances, this sight is a bit more complex than simply seeing what is right in front of her.

More problems are arising than the everyday drama of demons and rowdy teens however; someone is trying break into the CGE, which is especially concerning as it has rarely happened in the past. More concerning is that no one knows why they are trying, or what they want. They know things about the CGE and it's people that they shouldn't and everyone's on high alert. In times like these, it appears that demons are the least of Jade's problems.

As always, Lanie did an excellent job of developing her characters and the situations that they found themselves in. It is very easy to become a part of the story, and I enjoyed following along every step of the way. I can't wait to find out how Jade handles her newest obstacles and how everyone else around her will react to the changes they themselves have discovered.

This book was: unbelievably good! Loved everything!
The plot was: crazy, in an awesome kind of way.

The beginning was: maybe a bit slow... but not too much that I minded it.
The middle was: super!
The crescendo was: freaking amazing.
The finish/ending was: wow... I'm not sure if my nerves are all fried or if some managed to live through that crescendo and ending.

Would I recommend this book? Yes/no? Why/why not? Yes!!! God I want, no need the fourth book now; and I mean pronto! Though that's not going to happen, since the fourth book hasn't been released yet (and I don't even have a date for when it does! :( ).

Too little havoc

The series has a good story line and interesting characters, but suffers from too much inner struggles and un coherent thought processes. This distracts from the fluidity of the book.
