Montgomery Ink Legacy #9

Last Chance Seduction

Rate this book
The last time I saw Lexington Montgomery, he held my sister in his arms as my fiancé left me at the altar.

Neither one of us knew it would be two years until we saw each other again. Or that it would be the last time my sister was part of our core group.

Grieving, I’m back in Colorado trying to start over. I have no family and have no intention of dating ever again.

Only fate has other plans because Lexington Montgomery is my new neighbor.

I want to stay away from him, but there’s no chance of that now. Especially when his ex shows up to rub her new husband—and the chance at his dream job—in his face.

I didn’t mean to do it, but now I’m Lex’s fake girlfriend over the holidays and there’s nothing fake about the attraction between us.

Except once we finally give in, it turns out the past I ran from wasn’t so far away after all. And the dangers we never saw coming might end what we have—fake or not—before we even have a chance.

**Last Chance Seduction is a fake relationship, forced proximity, holiday romance in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series featuring Lexington and Mercy. Each book can be read as a complete standalone. An HEA is guaranteed!**

After being left at the altar when her would be husband ditched her for the wedding planner, audiobook narrator Mercy had no time to waste on lamenting that loss as she was swept into a nightmare when her beloved sister was diagnosed with a swiftly moving cancer and failed to respond to treatment. After more than two years away from the scene of the beginning of the toughest period of time in her life, Mercy returns only to find out she’s moved right next door to her old friend and witness to her fiancé ditching her.

Contractor Lexington has always wondered what happened to the beautiful Mercy after her life took a sharp turn. He was always interested in her as more than a friend but when his friend called dibs on her, he graciously quit the field and was a reluctant witness to their courtship and subsequent spectacularly unhappy ending. Now, though, Mercy has agreed to pose as his fake girlfriend to get Lexington in good graces with a developer who dangles several lucrative and prestigious contracts in front of gun while emphasizing his requirement that Lexington must be a dedicated family man. With the irresistible Mercy in such close proximity to him, Lexington decides to pursue her in truth, but will it blow up in their faces?

This was a sweet and steamy old-friends-to-lovers after a series of disasters separates them, and a perfect end to this particular series. As ever, Carrie Ann Ryan brings the tension and heat.

I was generously provided an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Carrie Ann Ryan takes her readers back to the Montgomery Ink world with Last Chance Seduction. This is the ninth book in her Montgomery Ink Legacy series. In this installment she created a steamy and heartfelt romance served up with a side of suspense. It perfectly captures passion. vulnerability and second chances.

Readers who have been following the Montgomery Ink Legacy series will recognize Mercy and Lexington from earlier books. New readers can jump right into Last Chance Seduction and enjoy it as a standalone.

Two years ago, Mercy faced back-to-back heartbreaks that left deep scars. Her fiancé abandoned her at the altar, and shortly after, her twin sister received a rare cancer diagnosis. After that, Mercy cut off all contact with the Montgomery family.

Fast forward to the present, and Mercy has returned to Colorado—only to discover that her new neighbor is none other than Lexington Montgomery, her childhood friend and a witness to the most devastating moment of her past.

Lexington never forgot Mercy. Though they were friends, his feelings for her had always run deeper. But when his best friend showed interest, Lexington stepped aside, only to watch, powerless, as that same friend humiliated Mercy on what should have been the most important day of her life.

Now Mercy has returned, and she has agreed to act as Lexington’s fake girlfriend. Their arrangement is meant to help him secure a pivotal business deal and prove to his ex that he has truly moved on. But with Mercy back in his life and closer than ever, old feelings resurface, and the line between pretend and real becomes increasingly blurred.

Last Chance Seduction kept me hooked from start to finish. Romance, friendships, family drama, and a suspenseful thread from the past made it impossible to put down.

I enjoyed watching Lexington overcome his insecurities about relationships. With Mercy, he learned that being with the right person opens the door to unconditional love.  They both deserved happiness, and it made my heart soar seeing them find their way to each other.

Last Chance Seduction delivers romance, emotion, and suspense in perfect balance. Mercy and Lexington’s story is heartfelt, steamy, and utterly captivating making it perfect for longtime fans or newcomers alike. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

Lexington and Mercy are sweet; however their journey is a series of "you dropped the ball" moments.
First, it starts with Lexington missing out on dibbs (or 1st dibbs)!

Lexington and Mercy

Lex and Mercy were childhood friends. Growing up together Mercy was immersed into his family some with her twin sister. Lexington is the guy that is always smiling and laughing, the one you can count on. Mercy was the one that was always out reach. Mercy has been through so much in her short time in life. Losing members of her family had taken a toll on Mercy that being left at the altar seemed insignificant. After years of being away, she finally comes back home. She wasn't expecting to find Lexington as her new neighbor. Now that she is back in his life, he doesn't want her out of it.

When an ex drops by to see Lexington about a proposal that he wants to put at her families business, Lexington enters to save him. But in doing so, they create more chaos than needed. Now with them having to fake a relationship to get the gig. Can these two let their insecurities go away to give this relationship a shot? Do they believe that they truly can have a happily ever after? Will their past come back to haunt them?

These two have their own battles within themselves. Lexington wants the family life but feels like he is bad luck. Mercy is just trying to survive everything thrown at her. Mercy cannot handle how Lexington really feels about her because she never saw it before. Lexington has a filthy mouth on him that Mercy ends up enjoying.

i love the Montgomery family series. It feels like coming home every time you read these books. You will also learn that no matter what someone ends up in the hospital LOL. I also learned I need to stop reading the last chapter because it makes me wait until the next book hehe.

Loved Lexington and Mercy! Their spark and chemistry were off the charts—equal parts heat, heart, and connection. A great old friends to lovers story. I always love when the Montgomerys get together, and this story delivered all the family feels, banter, and passion I’ve come to expect from the series.

The Montgomery family continues to get bigger and bigger.

I genuinely thought we'd have to wait forever for Lexington's story as the family's teasing of his 'supposed' relationship with his best friend seemed to be on everyone's lips.

I'm so glad that wasn't the case as Mercy is his perfect match (although a possible third would have been equally as epic).

I think I say it every time a new Montgomery novel drops, but Lexington is my favourite!

Mercy has had more challenges than any one person should have had to face, and Lexington has been there for them, making Mercy reluctant to rejoin the wider Montgomery arena on her return to Colorado after time away.

However, on discovery of her return, he is determined to look after her and re-establish her connection with the Montgomery clan.

Their relationship, although beginning as fake, very quickly develops and becomes real very quickly.

The road is difficult due to miscommunication and misunderstandings, but I'm glad to say they make it to their well-deserved HEA.

Last Chance Seduction is a worthy addition to the Montgomery Legacy series, and I can't wait to discover which of the extended family is next in line for their chance at finding 'the one'!

This story will keep you guessing, who is after your neighbor? And, what for? Then the exciting thing happening between you and said neighbor.

The last person Mercy expected to see next door was her ex's friend, and her own old friend, Lexington. When her ex dumped her and her sister was diagnosed with cancer, Mercy closed off her old life, which meant no more friendships with people like Lex. But now she's here trying to start over, when he walks into her life and doesn't want to leave. She can't help herself coming to his rescue either, when his ex tries to show him up. And now they're faking a relationship they don't have, so Lex can close the deal he's been eyeing. But all this faking is bringing up feelings she never thought she'd have for her old friend. Is it possible Lex feels the same?

Lex always wondered how Mercy was doing, after she left with her sister and didn't keep in touch with anyone. He hoped deep inside his heart where his true feelings for her lay, that she was living a life full of the happiness she deserved. So imagine his surprise when he finds out his new neighbor is Mercy, and she seems very unhappy to see him and all the noise his construction crew is bringing her. But that old Mercy, the one with a genuine heart, is still there, and she comes to his rescue when his horrible ex dangles his dream job in front of him. He's going to use this fake relationship now to claim her, the one thing he wanted to do the first time he lay eyes on her, before her ex called dibs.

I love the Montgomery clan, and Lex is part of why. He is such a sweetheart, always with a laugh and taking care of everyone else before himself, but hiding insecurities that had him questioning himself far too often. Mercy is the perfect person for him with her compassionate but bruised heart. It's no wonder he fell for her the first time he saw her, they just took a long, circuitous route to get to their happy. Mercy and Lex's old friends to lovers has all the feels, intense chemistry and the sweetest HEA, it has me really impatient for the next Montgomery's love story - Brooklyn falls in love with Reece in Kiss Me Forever.

Last Chance Seduction is Lexington Montgomery's happily ever after. Lex is the adopted son of Beckett Montgomery and Eliza Wilder Montgomery; it was actually shocking to me once I realized who his parents were as it feels like just yesterday Eliza and Beckett were earning their own happily ever after and adopting new additions to the Wilder/Montgomery clan.

Synopsis:

Mercy's story is one of great emotion, having lost both her parents at a relatively young age, she was left at the alter on her wedding day and on that same day her twin sister fell terminally ill. After moving away from Colorado and allowing herself to take two years to grieve, Mercy has come home. She has no family to rely on and only a handful of close friends, most of whom live long distances away. It was quite the surprise when she learned her new neighbor was Lexington Montgomery. And their re-introduction wasn't the greatest. Lex is remodeling and all the construction is quite disruptive to Mercy's personal business.

Lex has secretly had feelings for Mercy since they were children and she for him. A close friend of Lex's swooped in and claimed Mercy as his own first. What was a best friend to do except step back and let two people he cared for greatly have their chance at love. As a leading member of one of the up and rising Montgomery construction businesses, he puts his all in getting the biggest get. Unfortunately that leads to faking a relationship with Mercy to make a good impression on a potential client who looks favorable on those in a committed relationship. It doesn't take long for the fake relationship to become something more.

I love, love, love that Eliza Wilder-Montgomery came in full force and embraced Mercy as one of her own, regardless of whether or not Lexington had feelings for Mercy. It was impossible to not cheer for Mercy to find some wonderfulness for herself and Eliza and Brooklyn, Lexington's cousin and business partner, were a support system Mercy didn't realize she needed. I loved everything about Mercy, she is a successful narrator for audio books, she is an introvert, has a cat named Mr. Darcy, she even references the most wonderful scene from Pride and Prejudice. Lexington is a little overbearing at times, an extreme alpha male, but ultimately, like most Montgomery's, he understands what it takes to make a person happy. Another great installment to the Montgomery Legacy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

**Audiobook Review**

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: Those Montgomerys are something special. “Last Chance Seduction” is an emotional, romantic and action packed friends to lovers that was a great addition to the Legacy series.

The last time Mercy saw Lexington Montgomery was when her fiance left her at the altar and she learned just how sick her twin sister was. Fast forward two years later, Mercy is back in Colorado and her next door neighbor has been renovating his house which is not good for her as an audiobook narrator. And when she’s out in the garden one morning, she’s even more shocked to see her neighbor is Lex. Lex is just as shocked to see her and tries his hardest to be her friend again. Mercy tries her hardest to keep her distance when she overhears an ex giving Lex a hard time, she can't help but help him and say that she’s his girlfriend to help him secure his dream job. But the lines quickly blur as they spend time together and when an unknown danger threatens Mercy.

The opening of this book pulled me in with the drama of her ex and her poor sister. I loved how Mercy left but came back to start her life back over after losing all of her family. I know deep down she knew the Montgomerys were there and would gladly take her under their wings. Mercy is genuine, strong and I loved how independent she was. Lex is so amazing and has the Montgomery swoon. He cares with his whole heart and isn’t afraid to show it. Lex is close with his parents and all of his cousins. But one line from him that hit me the most: “Always the groomsman, never the groom.” That just showed me so much that there are men out there that want to be married and get their happily ever after too. The two might have been fake dating in the beginning but the crush Lex had always had on Mercy was what they needed to develop feelings for each other. I loved the added suspense of the person coming after Mercy because of her ex. The ending was so romantic and perfect for them.

Jason Clarke and Rose Dioro narrated as Lex and Mercy and I love listening to bring this story to life. Jason’s narration was genuine and vulnerable just like Lex and he was the perfect choice to portray Lex. Rose was amazing as Mercy. She brought her sweet and caring personality alive perfectly.

Lexington and Mercy have been friends for years. But the last time Mercy saw him, her fiance was leaving her at the altar, and her sister was in Lex’s arms in a medical emergency. Returning to Colorado wasn’t easy, but she has nowhere else to go and needs to start over. She doesn’t imagine she’ll run into Lex again, it is a big area, but as luck would have it she learns he is her neighbor. When his ex shows up bragging about her new family and dropping hints about Lex’s future business possibilities with her family’s company, Mercy jumps in to save him by claiming to be his girlfriend

Lexington and Mercy have a lot going on -- a fake relationship for business purposes, dealing with grief and loss, and some weird hangup phone calls. Add in that the fake relationship is based on a real friendship and real suppressed feelings, and there is a lot to love about this story!

I loved watching them navigate the issues that come up from pretending when they are both feeling real feelings the other is unaware of. I’m a sucker for a good fake romance, and this one hits all the right notes.

This is an entertaining, heartwarming, and hopeful story as they navigate feelings they have ignored for a long time. Wires get crossed in the fake label, and they explore what could have been if Lex had spoken up sooner (years ago).

I don't know how Carrie Ann Ryan continues to make each story stand alone and feel so fresh, while also tying things together and building suspense and expectation about future couples even as this family continues to grow. The teaser at the end has me so excited for the next in this series!

Last Chance Seduction is book 9 of the Montgomery Ink Legacy series and follows Lexington as he gets his second chance at love.

Lexington (Lex) is the oldest son of Beckett and Eliza Montgomery. He and his cousins run the local branch of Montgomery Construction. Years ago, he was interested in a girl until his best friend called dibs. Since then, he has tried to find love, but has found himself being the guy the girl dates before she finds the ONE. Now, he is focused on work and remodeling his new house.

Mercy is a jilted bride. To top off being left at the alter, her sister collapses and they are rushed to the hospital. Little did she know her sister was keeping secrets from her that will alter Mercy's life. With no roots left in Colorado, Mercy leaves the state to start over.

After escaping from everything she lost for a couple of years, Mercy is now back in Colorado. She is a voice actor (also known as a narrator) who works from home. Sadly, her new neighbor is remodeling his home and it is hindering her ability to work during the days.

When her cat starts going crazy towards something outside the screen, Mercy goes to investigate. What she finds will is not even close to what she was expecting and sends her in to a tailspin. Lucky for her, the construction crew hears her yelling and comes to see what is wrong.

Who comes running to her rescue? None other than Lex. Talk about a blast from her past. And not a good one.

Mercy has avoided Lex for years. But now she has no choice. He is her neighbor after all.

These two start talking and the Montgomery's envelop Mercy in their family throughout the holiday's. But when a situation arises between Lex and his ex, Mercy is there to swoop in and "save the day". But will it come back to bite her in the booty?

When a threat, from her ex fiance, emanates, the Montgomery's are there to protect and support Mercy. But will it be too late when it knocks on her door?

I love that Lex and Mercy get a chance at love given that, years ago, he wanted to date her. But his best friend, Justin, called dibs. Bro code says you do not date the girl someone calls dibs on, nor do you date them once they break up. But fate has a way of people two people who belong together in each other's orbit.

What started as a fake relationship to help Lex show his ex and her father he was committed and settled, turns out to be reality. But there is always a hiccup in the best laid plans, and Lex and Mercy will have to navigate some treacherous ground.

I loved seeing Beckett and Eliza Montgomery, plus all of the others, visiting in this book. Seeing her embrace Mercy was a joy to watch. And the sage advice they give to Lex is tough love, but love all the same.

It has been awhile since I have listened to Rose Dioro and it was a joy to listen to her in this book. She has such a fresh voice full of emotions for the characters. And Jason Clarke is a dream to listen to. These two play well together and listening to them as a pair was delightful.

My review is written after listening to the audio version of this book.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish. I experienced every emotion possible, from grief to happiness, as I followed the story of Mercy and Lexington. The book started as Mercy was about to be married to his best friend, but just as the Groom was about to make his vows, he turned tail and ran - but then, as she turned to ask Lex, who was acting as Best Man, what was happening, her twin sister collapsed!

Jump forward two years, her twin is dead, and she has no other family. She is determined never to date or fall in love again, content to give all her love to Mr Darcy, her cat. She returns to Colorado to start over. During those two years, she had cut all ties with her old friends and had unknowingly bought a house next door to Lex.

Lex has suffered some heartaches too, his last two relationships ended because the women he thought loved him had been cheating on him. He wonders if he will always be alone - the man you date before you find your lasting partner!

Although Lex and Mercy were childhood friends, things are now strained between them, but when she hears his ex gloating about her marriage and hinting that his dream job is out of his reach because he's alone, Mercy steps up and claims to be his girlfriend!

What begins as a fake-dating setup to ensure he lands the contract soon turns into something much more profound and a whole lot more emotional than either of them expected. But when their deception is discovered, Lex reacts badly. Will he be able to make it right with the woman he has always loved?

The Montgomery clan features in full force in this sizzling second-chance romance, with unwavering loyalty and love, strong familial bonds and lots of support for both Mercy and Lex.

The narration is expertly provided by Jason Clarke, one of my all-time favourite voice actors, and Rose Dioro, together they bring every emotion to the fore.

Dating in this world can sometimes leave a person jaded, and with all these two went through it truly could have been their last chances, but they found in one another the missing pieces of their hearts and healed from all their breaks. Mercy went through the most heartbreaking day of her life, being left at the altar then almost losing her sister, but since that day she has lived through two years that could break any persons heart. She is trying to live again and having Lex and the Montgomerys in her life might just be the very thing she needs to remind her that having love is all we need in this life to keep moving forward. Lex has had his share of disastrous romances and when Mercy forces them into a fake relationship he never imagines just how real it would become, but there is no denying the woman owns him heart and soul. He knows that the woman that he almost lost is the only one he’ll ever want again, but if he isn’t careful he just might lose her again and he refuses to give her up this time—to anyone or anything. I loved watching these two fumble their way through their fake feelings and ultimately finding the passion too much to hide anymore until the fire burned the walls down between them. Their love and connection are obvious to everyone but them from the beginning and it was fun to see their friends and family teasing them as they found their way through to one another. I am looking forward to seeing more of them in future stories. Brooklyn’s story is coming next and I am truly not sure I’m ready for the pain (Kiss Me Forever), but I know that Ms. Ryan will give her an HEA in the end, even if we have to cry buckets to get there. For now, I will bask in the heat and beauty that was Last Chance Seduction and the love of two people that were truly meant to be.

There is so much to love about this book. First, Lex and Mercy, make it impossible not to be immersed in their story. They have both had a rough couple of years and work has become more important than romantic relationships or dating. Her return Colorado and his purchase of his own home makes them neighbours and turns out to be a godsend for them both. They are given a chance to reconnect, to see if the attraction and crush that each felt for the other in the past could lead to something besides friendship between them. They have the foundation of their past friendship and shared memories to build upon.

Next to love is Lex’s big, gregarious and meddling family. They are quick to welcome Mercy back, include her in the family’s activities and events, and refuse to let her be alone for the holiday season. They become her found family, a blessing since she is now without any relatives of her own. The clan, or cult as some call them, also show up to support and protect Mercy when it becomes obvious that trouble has found her and she is in danger. Advice, solicited or not, support and encouragement are offered by various Wilde-Montgomery family members when Mercy and Lex are trying to navigate a fake relationship that both want to be real. The various text chains are hilarious and rather enlightening. I couldn’t stop giggling as I read them.

I have to say that Lex is a master at talking dirty. Mercy certainly thinks so. These two generate a whole of sparks and steam when they finally acknowledge they want to be more than friends. I love their deep connection and how they step up to protect each other. They just have to learn to communicate a little better and not shut down or put distance between them before they work things out in a disagreement. These two really do belong together.

This entertaining, emotional and engrossing book has my heartfelt recommendation.

Diving into amother most anticipated ARC by @carrieannryanauthor of the next installment of the Montgomery Link Legacy series, "Last Chance Seduction"

Audiobook narrator, Mercy was left at the altar as her fiance left her to be with their wedding planner. Carrie Ann knows how to start a book off because she is one the best authors. Every girls worst dream, right? Mercy's sister is also diagnosed with fast moving cancer and its not responding as it should and it beclmes the hardest two years of her life and she returns home and moves in next door to an old friend, Lexington and he also witnessed her fiance leaving her at the altar.

Que in Lexington, local contractor and well known Montgomery legacy always crushed on Mercy and in a sort of way was the girl that got away. Mercy agrees to a fake relationship to help Lexington land a huge deal with developers and the story really begins. Was it really fake for Lexington? No. He just hoped it didn't go sideways before his feelings really come out and he shiws Mercy the love story she alway a dreamt of was actually hidden away in the background all along.

Carrie nails "Last Chance Seduction" in true fashion with this friends to lovers and brings the HEA to the table as she always does. The spice gives off the touch her and 🔪 vibes with a heavy dose of dirty mouth from our Lexington. This is a must read series and I cannot be more excited to be apart of the team that gets to read her books and show the world why they need to read them. And don't get me started on who is next for "Kiss Me Forever" that is the next installment of Montgomery Ink Legacy series.

The last time Lexington and Mercy saw each other was when Mercy's cheating groom and Lexington's former best friend left her at the altar, and Mercy's sister collapsed in Lexington's arms. Two years later and grieving for her sister, Mercy is back in Colorado and works as a voice actor from her home. Mercy finds it hard to work with all the construction noise coming from next door with her new neighbor and is surprised when she comes face to face with Lexington. Lexington is the lead architect and works with his cousins for the local branch of Montgomery Construction. Lexington is tired of being the guy the girl dates before she finds the one she is going to marry. Will Mercy saying she is Lexington's girlfriend save Lexington and his chance to get his dream job or blow up in their faces? Will Lexington confess to Mercy that he wanted to date her in the past before his ex-friend and her ex called dibs? Will Lexington and Mercy's fake relationship lead to real feelings and a very real relationship? What happens when trouble comes knocking on Mercy's door thanks to her ex? Will Lexington and Mercy find their happily ever after? I loved Last Chance Seduction by Carrie Ann Ryan. Lexington and Mercy are a great couple with amazing chemistry. I loved how they both crushed on each other in the past but missed their chance when Mercy started dating Lexington's former best friend and her ex, Justin. I would highly recommend getting Last Chance Seduction and the other books in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series by Carrie Ann Ryan. I received a free copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Wow. This book pulled me in from the first chapter and didn’t let go.

It starts with heartbreak—Mercy getting left at the altar while her sister is comforted by Lexington Montgomery, a guy who’s always been part of her close-knit group. That moment? Painful. Raw. And it sets the tone for a story that’s as emotional as it is romantic.

Fast forward two years—Mercy’s back in Colorado, grieving and just trying to put her life back together. She has no family left, no interest in dating, and zero desire to revisit the past. But of course, fate has other plans.

Lex, the one person tied to that awful day, is now her next-door neighbor. Cue all the awkward, tense, undeniably hot moments.

What I loved is that their connection feels so real—slowly rebuilding trust, navigating grief, healing in unexpected ways. And then there’s the twist: when Lex’s ex comes back into the picture trying to make his life miserable, Mercy steps up as his fake girlfriend… and the lines blur fast.

The chemistry? Off the charts. The emotional stakes? So real. And just when I thought they were safe, the past Mercy thought she left behind shows up with serious consequences.

This book isn’t just a romance—it’s about finding your footing again after everything falls apart. About learning to trust, to love, to hope.

I laughed, I cried, and honestly, I’m still thinking about these characters. If you love fake dating with real feelings, emotional depth, and a bit of suspense thrown in, you need this book in your life.

I received an advance copy from BookFunnel for my honest opinion.

Nine books in, and Carrie Ann Ryan continues to deliver heartfelt romances in her Montgomery Ink Legacy series. Last Chance Seduction is the story of two people whose friendship went on hold after two life-changing events. Lexington Wilder-Montgomery is the older son of Beckett Montgomery and Eliza Wilder-Montgomery, the younger son being Silas, and he's part of family-owned Montgomery Construction. While in the middle of renovating his home, he's surprised to find out that his neighbor is none other than Mercy Caddel. It's been a couple of years since Mercy left Colorado along with her twin sister, Emily, right after Mercy was left at the altar by her groom. Now she's doing her best to move forward without her twin by her side, but rekindling her friendship with Lex has her a bit confused, especially considering how she's now seeing him in a different light. When she steps in as his fake girlfriend in order to help him with a potential project that could take Montgomery Construction to a new level, she wasn't supposed to fall for him, but then, their lives weren't supposed to be in danger either.

The beginning of this book grabs your attention and the rest of the story keeps it for the long haul. Lex and Mercy were such an interesting couple, and their back stories provide a better understanding of what motivates them throughout. Now, the whole fake relationship trope isn't my favorite, but Carrie Ann Ryan has enough meat on the proverbial bone that had me going from one page to the next, needing to know how everything would work out for Lex and Mercy. I could see why Mercy was hesitant when it came to Lex, and these two had to work through their respective issues in order to get to that happily-ever-after of theirs, but more often than not, it's the stuff you need to work for that ends up mattering most. There's some suspense thrown into the mix, making for an already entertaining read more so, but the romance remains at the forefront. Last Chance Seduction snags 4.5 stars. Bring on more Montgomerys!

Welcome back to Colorado…where you might spot a Montgomery (or two…or three) somewhere within the state…not to mention their friends & extended families.

Last Chance Seduction is Lex’s & Mercy’s story….set during the holidays…

Lex & Mercy grew up together…and Lex was the best-man in the her wedding…until her fiancé left her at the altar…for the wedding planner.

Two years have passed since that incident…and while Mercy is back in Colorado…she’s back trying to piece her life back together.

They’re neighbors…though she isn’t happy with him…more to do with the massive amount of remodeling he’s doing on him home…and how the noise is interfering with her job…

So…what happens when you’re “accidentally” eavesdropping on your neighbor & his ex shows up?

Well…it could cumulate in pretending to be a couple over the holidays…

Do they give in to their feelings (since they both had a mutual crush on each other when they were teenagers)??

What happens when you feel like you’re being followed? What happens when another certain ex’s problems arrive at your doorstep?

The answers…within the pages of Last Chance Seduction, the latest installment in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series.

Five out of five stars for the book…and can I say—I’d love to smack both their exes around…

Nothing says holidays like an Montgomery Ink family get-together…where there is cheese, food, and drinks. Also…if you haven’t read an previous book—no worries, Last Chance Seduction is a perfect ‘entry’ point for the greater Montgomery Ink world…

Mercy’s wedding day was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. However, it was just be the beginning of her world slowly crumbling down. Left at the altar and heartbrokenly witnessing her sister’s illness, Mercy decides to distance herself from all those memories. But two years later, she’s faced with the one man she’s been avoiding, who just so happens to be her new neighbor. But when a turn of events has them jumping into fake dating, lines start to become blurred…But are they willing to risk everything and cross that line for good?

Lex and Mercy’s story is by far my favorite. I have always appreciated the friends to lovers trope, but this book made me fall in love with it all over again. These two had me kicking my feet and swooning, page after page. Their chemistry is beautiful, natural, and radiates off the pages.

Lex is a humble and kind-hearted man, yet he consistently appears to finish last as the “nice guy.” And Mercy, she had me laughing with some of her witty comments and in awe of her strength and perseverance. These two were the best kind of slow-burn you never knew you needed.

Leave it to Carrie Ann Ryan to deliver perfectly paced heart-warming moments, woven with a dash of heat, and a sprinkle of suspense that will have you hooked from the beginning. Every. Single. Time. (And a holiday book that just hits you in all the feels!)

I appreciate the opportunity to have received an advanced copy and my review is honest and voluntary.

I loved this one! I loved getting to know Lexington better and seeing him deal with what has been thrown at him. He wants to be in love and settled, finding his person but he just seems to be the person that everyone dates before finding the one and so he is tired of dating and decides to focus on work and remodeling his house. He used to be interested in Mercy, before his best friend called dibs and he stepped back. He left her at the altar and her sister collapsed and things went south and Mercy left Colorado for a few years but now she is back and living next door to Lex. I enjoyed getting to see this two reconnect through some forced proximity with them being neighbors and then some fake dating as Lex's ex shows up to rub things in his face. It forces them to deal with some things and take that chance to be together, since they would have been avoiding each other without it. I love how the Montgomery's include people into their circle and seeing them do so with Mercy was great and I loved seeing it over the holidays with everyone. This book can be read as a standalone but is great if you have read some or all of the other Montgomery books as you will see familiar faces and get to catch up with past characters. This story was well written and I was engaged with the characters very early on and throughout the entire story. It flowed well and I am excited to see what comes next.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

The Cover! Oh my! Am I the only one who thinks the man looks like a young Tom Cruise? I’m talking Top Gun here! 😂

Whew! Ok, the cover is definitely a winner and so is the story!

Mercy has faced some really difficult times. Not only was she left at the alter, her twin sister became violently ill at the same time and never recovered. Having lost both parents, Mercy was now truly alone and returned to Colorado.

Fate being what it is, who ends up being her next door neighbor? Lexington Montgomery, the same man who stood with her fiancé at the alter, caught her sister as she collapsed at Mercy’s wedding and a friend from when she was young.

Lex has had troubles of his own. Ex-girlfriends finding their “true loves” shortly after breaking up with him, Lex feels like he’s always the groomsman but never the groom.

And while Mercy and Lex are both surprised to discover they’re neighbors (with a bumpy start, given their history at Mercy’s almost wedding), Mercy can’t help herself from coming to Lex’s rescue when an ex shows up at his house one day.

So begins their fake girlfriend/boyfriend relationship. But is it fake?

As always, the Montgomery family and friends are there to support and annoy Lex and Mercy, which is both touching and funny. This is another enjoyable story in the Montgomery series!

I received an ARC of Last Chance Seduction and absolutely loved every second of it. This book was such a joy to read — full of heart, laughter, and the kind of romance that makes you smile from start to finish.

Lex was everything I hoped he would be: fiercely protective, steady, and impossible not to root for. Mercy was such a strong and relatable heroine, and watching their connection deepen had me squealing more than once. Their banter, their tension, and the way they showed up for each other felt so genuine. Mr. Darcy the cat absolutely stole the show in the best way, and I adored the presence of Lex’s mom, who added so much warmth to the story.

There was more angst than I anticipated, but it never overshadowed the sweetness of the romance — if anything, it gave their story an added depth that made the happy moments even more precious. Carrie Ann Ryan also did a fantastic job setting up the next book, and now I’m already counting down until I can return to this world.

With dual POV, fake dating, friends to lovers, only one bed, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, and just the right amount of spice (for those who want the heads-up: chapters 12, 13, and 16), this book checked so many of my favorite boxes. It’s a swoony, heartfelt romance that left me smiling long after I turned the last page.

Two years ago started the worst time in Mercy's life. Her groom left her at the alter for the wedding planner and her sister got sick and ultimately passed away. Mercy left everyone behind, including her childhood friend, Lexington Montgomery, in search of help for her twin sister, and now that she is truly alone, she has moved back to her home town. What she doesn't know is that Lex is the recent purchaser of the house next door that is under construction and is disrupting her life. When Mercy overhears Lex's ex, Gia, telling him he should be in a relationship if he wants to win the bid for the work on her father's estate, Mercy pretends she is Lex's girlfriend and so a fake relationship is borne.
But one bed in the hotel starts a change in the relationship that both are open to whatever this is. But always the specter in the background, Mercy's ex is involving her in his bad decisions and putting her life in danger. Through all of this, the Mercy is discovering just how good it feels to be embraced by the every growing Montgomery family.

This book is amazing. A page turner that you can't put down, with fast paced story lines, characters who are delightfully flawed, but incredibly relatable. This is a story of childhood crushes, love, trust, found family, and most importantly a wonderful HEA. Love this book!!

𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is the 9th book in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series by Carrie Ann Ryan, featuring a fake relationship romance for former friends Lexington and Mercy. I have been waiting for Lex to finally get his chance at a HEA, and this book did not disappoint! I was hooked by the emotional prologue and further captivated by every heat-filled glance, Montgomery family antic and banter exchange, and shocking twist and turn that came along!! I absolutely adored the fact that Mercy was a voice actor! This might actually be my first main character with that job, and I’ve read a ton of books! I enjoyed the flow of the plot and the way the fake relationship came about. Their chemistry was phenomenal, although it took awhile for them to find time together without interruptions🤪, the payoff was so fiery!! I sat up and took notice of Lex and his dirty talker side! Man, I wish I had the audio!😍🔥 The holiday vibe gave the Montgomery family an extra opportunity to show Mercy how they take care of their own. Once you’re in, you’re in, and I love that about this family. What’s not to love when a story represents healing and finding love and family with a side of suspense? Be ready for some emotion, too! I cannot wait for the next book!!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I liked this book but for me Lex just didn’t feel like an internally consistent character. I really liked Mercy and I was disappointed in myself that I hadn’t written a review for myself of Beckett and Eliza’s story as I could remember much. My struggle with Lex was a few things. I get that the Montgomerys as a group a pretty growly but it didn’t seem like that’s who Lex is so when he was growly with Mercy I didn’t really understand where it came from. Not going to lie I appreciate a dirty talker but I didn’t feel comfortable with it from Lex, I’m not sure if it was that the content felt a bit dirtier, or that the first time she was not there or just him not sitting right with me as a character. The other issue I had was that he was portrayed as bright and articulate and yet he seemed completely clueless, even when Mercy responded exactly as you would expect he remained clueless. Then this man who had been treated really badly by ex girlfriends treated Mercy poorly and did nothing to try and fix it until his family intervened. The grovel was fine but I guess I kind of wanted him salvaged as a character but it wasn’t good enough for that, not to mention Mercy had nothing to apologise for and I personally hate a grovel that includes a mea culpa from all parties that is just not warranted.
All this said I’m still looking forward to the next book when it’s released

Talk about a book that will take you for a ride on the rollercoaster of emotions. One moment I was smiling, next my heart was breaking, then I was full of hope and dreams. Ms. Ryan does a wonderful job of weaving her storylines and characters into your hearts. Last Chance Seduction is the ninth book in her Montgomery Ink series and with each book, I want to be a part of the Montgomery clan, which also includes a Wilder or two. Brilliantly written love story that is so easy to get caught up in and lose track of time.
Lex and Mercy are two souls who have been friends for a while but due to heartbreak and a loss that can never be forgotten, have lost touch. Imagine that your new neighbour is the girl you have always wanted but never got. Now they are neighbours and Lex's hopes are high, hoping he can get her to open her heart and trust again. She has been through hell, a cheating ex-fiancé who left her at the altar and losing her twin sister. The connection between the two of them is hard to ignore. Lex needs help and Mercy steps right up to help him. Lines get blurred and hearts begin to open and feel again.
I love how the Montgomery clan opens their hearts and arms for Mercy. Talk about a found family that will have you one of them even if you try to fight it.

Endearing Fake Relationship Romance
Lexington has spent most of his life being the brother who smiled and laughed but the one you could count on. He has even been the one to push many of his cousins into finding their perfect match and taking a leap when it came to romance. All he has wanted for so long is to settle down like his family has, but his last two serious girlfriends left him when they found “the one”, who turned out not to be him. Now Mercy is back in his life and he cannot give into his attract to her. Mercy had always been attracted to Lexington, but she did not want to ruin one of her best friendship. They are better off to stay friends. They both know their lives are far more twisted and complicated than others. Another well written emotional romance by Carrie Ann Ryan that I was not able to put down. It incorporates betrayal, grief, emotion, steam, fun family banter and even an element of danger. Also a great lead up at the end for Carrie’s next book in her Montgomery Ink Legacy Series. My heart is already bleeding.
I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.
