✎𓂃 “I will never hurt you, Bailey. Not like Ethan. Not like anyone. You can trust me. Let me in. Let me love you the way you deserve to be loved. Let me show you how love should feel.”

☆Summary:
Bailey Clarke, once a popular Instagram influencer, is living at home with her parents after The Video surfaces and she effectively gets canceled. While trying to figure out her next steps, an all-exclusive resort reaches out to her to join a small group of fellow influencers for an all-expense paid couples retreat. The kicker? She has no boyfriend, as the whole world knows due to said Video. But she’s in luck, because her brother’s best friend Cash (who absolutely despises her) is in need of a vacation, and is more than willing to fake a relationship in order to do so! But what happens when she discovers he’s not all he’s appeared to be all these years, and will The Video ruin all her future plans?

☆What to Expect:
🏖️ Fake dating
🏖️ Vacation romance
🏖️ Brother’s best friend
🏖️ Seemingly enemies-to-lovers
🏖️ Diverse characters
🏖️ ONE bed!!
🏖️ Open door smut
🏖️ He falls first
🏖️ One first-person POV from the FMC, with the epilogue in the MMC’s POV
🏖️ A story that flies by, with super short chapters

☆My Thoughts:
One Week in Paradise was a very cute, fast read. I flew through this in a single day thanks to the super short chapters and the way the plot kept moving. Sometimes you need these short books to help with the slump! I loved seeing the representation, and it is so much more meaningful coming from a Black female author 👏🏼

Unfortunately I felt the “ILY” was a bit jarring and too soon for me. Dowwwwn boy, hold your horses! But the romance was definitely hot and Mr. Cash Money was everything Bailey deserved. Moral of the story? Ignore the haters and NEVER let your brother dictate who you should be with! 😅

☆Would I Recommend?
If you’re in need of something fast-paced, absolutely. I wished I was sippin’ a spicy drink on the beach while I was reading this, so I’d also suggest for anyone going on a sunny vacation! ☀️🍹

3.5 ⭐️ I prefer it when characters know exactly what they want , especially the male main character. Cash didn't give me that there was no BDE but he was very understanding and sweet it was just the hesitation. This book consisted of a few swoon-worthy moments. However, I found it to be too brief. We didn't receive much background, so I'm not sure how Cash could have been so in love. Due to the time hop to the epilogue, I'm not sure how Bailey found love. Overall, this is a cute read. I believe readers who like brother's best friend, pretend dating, also where the male mc falls first, and romantic getaway will definitely like this one!

- This would have been the perfect beach read because it was so fun! I really enjoyed the story so much and literally gasped at multiple points during the story. It was really fast paced and I love how you could literally feel the emotions of the mmc through the pages.
- I wish the ending had been longer and we had been able to see the fmc feelings more than we did. I also wish that the epilogue had been even longer into the story.
- I immediately purchased the second book in this series because this one was so fun! I love happy fluffy easy reads like this one and I’m so glad I picked it up!

“Just focus on me,” I say softly as I reach out to hold his hand. As soon as our skin makes contact, Cash yanks his hand away. The sting of his rejection hits me harder than I expect. “Sorry,” I mumble. “I was just trying to—” Cash brings his hand back, entwines his fingers with mine and squeezes tightly. “Like this,” he mutters. His eyes are shut, and his jaw is clenched tightly. “If you don’t mind.”
↪ plot:

An all-paid couples trip to Jamaica sounds like a dream, right? Well, not if you're Bailey and:
1. your influencer career has gone downhill after an unfortunate video of yours went viral,
2. your last relationship ended in the worst way possible,
3. you keep getting harassed online enough to not have posted anything in months, and
4. the only way you can go on this trip to try to save your career is by taking your brother's best friend Cash (who seems to not like you at all) and pretend to be in a relationship with him.

↪ thoughts:

This was okay. It was cute at times and I liked these characters, but it would've been better if was dual POV. The reviews already tell you this and you can clearly notice it, so it's not a spoiler, but Cash has had a crush on Bailey for a while and I would've loved getting his POV too, especially since he was sending so many mixed signals.

Bailey, on the other hand, stressed me out, not because of her lack of trust in relationships (that was understandable), but from the constant mention of The Video without any more context. I've found out I hate when a character in a romance book mentions this one event they went through, like, millions of times before telling us (the readers) what actually happened during this event. I understand not telling their love interest until a specific point in the book but I hate when they keep me in the dark too. Let's do that in other genres, not in romances.

I was also not a fan of them jumping to something physical in a moment they weren't even talking to each other. Everything was tense but they still started something sexual very randomly and in public, and I did not like that. It was a very anticlimactic start to their relationship.

Not an awesome experience with this one but it had some cute moments, the cover is stunning, and the little glimpses I got from the next book had me giggling and kicking my feet so I'm very excited over that one and I think I'll start it immediately.

(I'm trying this new format for my reviews by adding a little plot summary before my in-depth thoughts since I read lots of indie books and want to get y'all interested in more of them and their authors, regardless of if I liked them or not.)

𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐎??! I’m convinced my blood sugar levels increased significantly from the sweetness of these two.

Imagine my shock and amusement when I found out this is a summery romance that takes place in my home country, Jamaica!! This honestly led to high expectations when it came on to the world-building aspect but we will dive into that later :)

———

𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐭- ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
- The plot was definitely something new for me and I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy the storyline as much as I did but I’m not mad about it. 𝐈 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐒 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄!! It follows Bailey Clark, a black hair influencer from London, and her older brother’s best friend, Caspian Reid. Bailey had moved back to her parent's house after a video (related to her ex-relationship) went viral and painted her in a bad light. After being intensely harassed online and losing brand deals, Bailey decided to take a break from social media. Amidst all of this, Bailey was offered a huge brand deal. I was an invitation to a couples resort in Jamaica for one week, with her and her significant other! The thing is, she had broken up with her ex-boyfriend who was publicly known and she had also not posted in months! She decided on declining the offer until a certain someone showed up and stayed for dinner(MMC). After revealing the offer at dinner her brother insisted she take his best friend who supposedly “hated Bailey's guts” their whole childhood. So they agreed on pretending they were together for the entirety of the trip and if you know me you'll know I'll go 𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋 for the fake dating trope!! Like most books I've read, the first portion was pretty slow and I wasn't as hooked as I needed to be, some of the writing felt a bit... 𝐚𝐰𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝? But I can proudly say for a short book the writing improved drastically by 30-40 pages and the story became so interesting I was glued to one spot. This is the perfect summer romance and a good book to carry on your vacation or just looking for a feel-good novella with decent spice! The best part about the plot for me was the third-act conflict. It made me love this book even more because it wasn't too drawn out and the characters approached it in a mature manner which is expected because most of them were in their late 20s! It's genuinely a feel-good summer romance and it had me squealing and kicking my feet every few paragraphs. 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐈'𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐫!

𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞- ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
- The spice wasn't 𝐓𝐎𝐎 crazy but it was so well written it made me feel things between my legs and in my chest haha. You could feel the love mixed with lust and MMC praises added a lil razzle dazzle for me! One thing that had me a bit disappointed was the lack of communication when came on to safety! 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐎𝐑 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐗𝐓, they didn't use protection and there was no conversation prior to that about any form of contraceptives. It wasn't until he was ready to...yk, that she mentioned being on birth control. That slightly threw me off so just a heads up in case this isn't your jam.

——

𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝:
- brother’s best friend/best friend's sister
- holiday/summer romance
- fake dating
- forced proximity
- found family
- one-bed trope
- undercover love

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤:
- The writing. This is surprising because one, I wasn't liking it at first and two I checked and this is the author's first book and it is really incredible.
- The summery romance aspect. I'm not even sure if this book took place in summer but it gave that vibe which exactly what I was craving.
- The pacing was perfect. No parts felt rushed or drawn out to me and I was just inhaling every page. Finished in one setting.
- The supportive characters were actually supportive. They way I knew someone was a snake but I guessed wrong but that made the experience more interesting.
- The representation for LGBTQ couples! I'm glad that it wasn't added in a weird or forced rep kind of way.
- Both main characters and their banter. It's so rare to find MFC’s who aren't a bit annoying these days but thank goodness for Bailey. She gets me and I get her! She had some questionable moments but its okay because I love her. Cash, 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐀𝐑𝐄!! This man is a walking standard for men. I'll admit I thought he was a dick at first but throughout the story, I got to know him and he's actually the sweetest!! He's so gentle and loving and almost everytime he opens his mouth I get butterflies. Did I mention he's a 𝐈𝐆 𝐒𝐈𝐌𝐏?? 𝐆𝐔𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 (𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐇𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐋) 𝐁𝐀𝐃. There was also some banter sprinkled in and a handful of angst, which had me chewing my lips, stressed out like it was my love life.😭😭
- I'm such a sucker for lovey-dovey but still has your toes curling kinda spice and this served exactly that. He was saying all these sexy but sweet stuff and had me wanting to jump in the story and join in 𝐋𝐌𝐀𝐎𝐎.
- The length. I've been in a bit of a slump and I knew I wouldn't make it through longer books but I still wanted to keep on the habit of reading and this novella was perfect for my case.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤:
- As mentioned above, I felt like they just went into the spice without some precautions which had me worried.
- That one girl who was trying Bailey! I wanted to insert myself in the book and give her good slap to shut the hell up. I'd say that's a job well done on writing a very hate-worthy antagonist.
- Lack of research?? I felt like there could've been better world-building and details on their experience in Jamaica. I guess I was just expecting more especially with the Jamaican characters and their dialect. I think it would've enhanced the story if it was played with a little bit more.

𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬:

Overall I'm so glad I picked this book up because I quite literally drank the words in, all in one sitting. If any of my friends are looking for a quick and cute summer read I’d highly recommend this book. I already started the second novella before writing this review and I just think this book and author deserves more recognition.

This book made me feel like I was on a vacation. It totally put me in the mood and here I am, suck at home surrounded by snow…

Bailey is a social media influencer who gets a chance to go on a free trip to Jamaica. The only problem, it’s a couples resort and Bailey is just trying to get over a bad breakup. Cash, Bailey’s brother’s best friend, is hopelessly into her so he humbly offers to go with her and pretend to be her boyfriend. Only problem, Bailey thinks he hates her.

This was cute. It was on the shorter side but as most of the book is focused on the week they’re in Jamaica, it didn’t feel too short. It was a fun, vibey, vaca book. Plus who doesn’t love a man who worships the FMC?

While Cash really did worship Bailey, sometimes it was to the point that he almost fell in what I like to call the “limp noodle” category. He was constantly hot and cold, could not communicate and basically pouted for the majority of this book. He initiates a very physical action that has no emotion involved in it then gets upset when Bailey assumes he wants a little friends with benefits with her. I must have missed that class that taught being completely cold to her to having you’re fingers up her skirt is a declaration of love.

Bailey was fine. I empathize with her and how horrible her break up was and for the most part, she was a straight forward woman which I liked. However, there was so much underlying dread around “the video” and “the secret” that it was just frustrating. I don’t think keeping the reader in the dark for either secrets was necessary. I would even say they weren’t that serious. I can’t get into it too much without spoiling but she acted like it was the worst thing you can do but she wasn’t even in the wrong. She did take an emotional hit which I get, but for how long it was hyped up, it wasn’t that bad.

Putting my own personal preferences aside, this is still a very fun read. Perfect for a vacation or beach read!

OMG I KID YOU NOT I FINISHED THIS BOOK IN ONE SITTING!! And I CANNOT stop thinking about it!! From the fast-paced chapters to complex yet simple characters AND the subtle British culture references, I can't get enough of, as a British author myself. This book left me feeling giddy and instantly craving more. Cash is a dream come true in very short, shorts and Bailey is a breath of fresh air as she struggles with insecurities whilst she rediscovers her passion. I NEED MORE!! can't WAIT for the rest of the series, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

The FMC was annoying and childish, the MMC failed to communicate his feelings clearly. Anyone could see that he was inlove with her.
It was like reading a YA with a little spice in it, the characters were just immature. It had cute moments though. The idea was great but some marks were missed.

Something about "the video" and how the fight actually played out doesn't sit well with me. It's simply her confronting her cheater in this career-ending video, like oooohhh nooooo. She clearly made a foolish move by going back. However, that isn't the drama I anticipated. It's not like she intentionally cheated. If anything, the other girlfriend is incorrect for going after the main character. The romance seems incredibly hasty and forced in my opinion. The spice is decent but mostly just hot. I very rarely DNF books, but because this one was so short, I persevered and finished it. Personally, I think the way it finishes is a little bit unsatisfying. Wouldn’t read it again as there are better fake dating stories.

Edit// one last job is a better story but not by much. I wouldn’t personally pick anything up by this author again unless you prefer light spice and high insecurities in MCs.

This was a sweet story about an influencer on the brink of losing it all who gets a second chance with a brand trip but the catch is has to go with her brother’s best friend, who’s secretly been in love with her for years.
While the romance was adorable and had its moments, it took a bit too long to get to the main conflict, which is why I gave it 3.5 stars. Still, it was a light, fun read overall!

Tropes: fake dating, brother’s bff, long unrequited love, one bed, praise

These two are hot af. Both the characters and the plot were refreshing in terms of chick lits. I love that Bailey speaks her mind. She tells off Cash when she had something on her mind and I love it cause I feel like miscommunication is so common in chick lits. Cash adored Bailey and it was felt while you read it. This book is just happy and sweet. I was smiling the whole time I was reading it. The conflicts aren’t the end of they world and they handle it like real humans would. The spice was GREAT. Not overbearing but enough that I was taken care of lol. This was a pretty short read but it hit everything I wanted in a chick lit - heart, funny moments, characters I liked (& related to), and spice.

I can’t say enough good things about this. It’s the perf summer read and I can’t wait to read Anise’s next book!

Bailey Clarke is an Instagram influencer. Although, her family doesn't like that and thinks that's not a real job, she continues to influence people from all around the world. She knows that she can make a difference, and even though sometimes it's a rough road, she is determined to continue to inspire people and make them feel good in their own skin.

She had it all — gorgeous apartment in London, nice boyfriend who supported her and her followers who appreciated her content. Funny how one moment can change it all. One video ruined her relationship, job and life. Within seconds, she lost everything. So now, she is back at her parents' house, locked in the room that used to be hers, not wanting to socialize. But it seems like life is giving her a chance, pushing her to get through this situation. One of those depressed days, she receives an email with a proposal from one company. A free trip to a couples only resort in Jamaica. Jamaica!! Well, it's better to be sad in sunny Jamaica than in rainy and gloomy London, isn't it? But there's only one problem. The company must've not seen the video, therefore they don't know she doesn't have a boyfriend.

Her brother who had always supported her, unlike their parents, finds one brilliant idea. She can go with his best friend, Caspian. No one knows them, so they wouldn't know if they're faking their relationship. Bailey knows that he hates her, so when he agrees, to say she was surprised is an understatement.

As they enjoy their free holiday, their secrets start to tear them apart. Will they be brave enough to share them, or will they let the past control their future?

I LOVE everything about this book!!! First of all can we take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous cover... such a summery vibe filled with positive vibes. Just looking at it you feel like you're on an island, sun softly kissing your skin as you lay on the beach hearing the waves. I can't stop looking at it!

The story itself is perfection. It represents the modern life in a unique way. Also, I like how the influencer life is shown from behind the camera. We all have seen the perfect photos that you can see the person took hours to edit. And we don't always get to see what happens behind those cameras. But even if we don't have a chance to peek, we can always read between the lines, we can tell who does it for the money and who does it because they simply want to share some messages, to influence people in the real meaning of the word.

All the characters (except that one person) are lovable and interesting to read about. The main characters are a perfect match and I love how the author build their story. Cash is my new book boyfriend and when you read the book you'll know why.

I am amazed that this is Anise's debut novel, because her writing style is so good. She has a natural talent for writing stories, and because this book is the first book in the series, I can't wait to read her upcoming books! She has that power to make the readers feel like they're a part of the story. To feel like they're following the characters to Jamaica and observe everything from under the shadow of a palm tree.

Funny, steamy, humorous and irresistible book that will make you feel like you can achieve everything, make you feel unstoppable. If you want to read a good book this summer, let it be this one!

Usually can’t stand the hesitant, taking forever to speak their mind, I like you but scared to tell you trope, but I do like a romantic getaway, fun and flirty easy read. Don’t get me started on the fake dating because we all know they end up dating eventually kmt. The Jamaican in me was read to “thump” Bailey for being redundantly ridiculous, but I appreciated Cash being sweet and patient with her, amongst other things uhmm uhmm.

3.5 stars. I really did enjoy this, it was such a quick read, I love the romance and the plot was really good.

My only problem is when she got “canceled” is how she didn’t even try to defend herself because it honestly could’ve been over if she just made a follow up video. Also I hated how long it took to reveal why she was supposedly “canceled” and then you find out the reason and realized the fallout didn’t have to be that bad if she wasn’t wallowing in self pity. It was also kind of annoying how she believed Cash hated her when that man literally did nothing to back up him hating her, it’s like she just pulled that out her ass.
