Jess Michaels is a USA Today Bestselling Author who likes geeky stuff like Star Wars, playing video games (she ships herself with Dragon Age’s Iron Bull FOREVER), Bob’s Burgers and collecting POPs! It's some time since I read this author and this story, IMO, is like the earlier ones (Simply, Allbright sisters) that I used to adore. Marianne is a wallflower and on the death of her fellow wallflower, Claudia finds Claudia's list of things she would like to do. It's a trope that has been used before but it works. Marianne starts on the list with the aid of her brother's best friend, Sebastian and I think it dawns on her that what's keeping her back is her own mental attitude to the societal restrictions of the day. It doesn't hurt that she has her Aunt Beulah (not an English name imo) example of what happens if she doesn't get herself motivated. The sex scenes are well described. I see that this is book 1 and it will be interesting to see what Marianne's brother has been getting up to in book 2?

I recommend this story.

Jess Michaels was one of the first authors I started reading when I got a Kindle in 2015. This is my 74th book by her. I think after 71 books, you might guess I consider her one of my favorite authors. I love that she has a new series out.

OMG I loved Marianne and Sebastian. I smiled reading this book. They were so adorable. Their “friend” banter was so cute and just made me smile quite often. Even thought every single book I read is a HEA, I just couldn’t wait to see how things played out and it didn't disappoint. I am definitely adding this book to my favorite reads list for Oct, 2024. It was just so well written and their sex was hot and they were hot...just loved it. So damn good.

Aww I just loved Marianne, she was just too wonderful. She was caring but not a push over which can be such a fine line for FMC. She has a crush one the one man who always seemed out of reach and ,in her opinion, see her as her brothers kid sister. She has worked hard to be a wallflower and has decided she doesn’t want to blend in anymore. Sebastian was lovely too kind, caring, the correct amount of jealous cause I LOVE that especially on paper. And her brother, I kind of wish we understood him a little more in the context of their relationship, but he was so good to Marianne. I’m smiling and I can’t seem to stop. This just gave me the warm and fuzzies while being very open door and hot. I can’t wait to read the next. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this story and this is my freely given opinion.

This is the first book of a new series by Jess Michaels, a sad-sweet, bucket list, friends to lovers, childhood crush historical romance, and Jess Michaels always writes with a story that is more on the steamy/sensual side.

Lady Marianne is mourning the sudden death of her best friend, Claudia. They have been good friends and fellow wallflowers, since Marianne's disastrous debut. On her death, Claudia left Marianne a prized possession, a beautiful case, and hidden in that case, Marianne found a wish list written by Claudia when she was ill - a list of things she wished to accomplish in her life. Marianne, in honor of her friend, and also feeling the loss of opportunity for adventure for herself, as she sees herself becoming a forgotten spinster, makes the list her own, and vows to accomplish the things Claudia never got to achieve for herself.

Sebastian, the Earl of Ramsay is a popular rogue and rake, and best friends with Marianne and her brother since childhood. He has never seen Marianne as anything more than his good friend, and sister to his best friend. Marianne has hidden her deeper feelings for him, though her brother suspected, but Sebastian would go against his friend's edict against his turning his roving eye towards his sister. He values their friendship too much to harm it in such a way.

But he has notices that Marianne has been behaving oddly and it concerns him, and in his concern, he starts noticing Marianne more and as she becomes a greater part of his focus, he starts to notice feelings for her that did not seem to be there before. When he discovers her secret wish list, and feels forced to interfere, he finds himself becoming jealous of others taking notice of the formerly socially insignificant Marianne, and when he acts on his growing feelings, Marianne gives into her own hidden feelings, and they fall into a torrid, secret affair.

I always enjoy a friends to lovers trope, and there is the added element of tension here as Sebastian risks losing the friendships he values so much here, by engaging in the secret affair. But this is a bittersweet romance because of the death of Claudia opening the present day story and the sad note and sense of loss, mortality, and a life unlived that her death gives to the story throughout much of it. There is an HEA, but still with a bit of sadness because of that flavour note being added in the beginning. I hope there is a later epilogue where perhaps they name a daughter after Claudia in memory of her... actually, I will choose to believe that for my own sake.

The start of a new series & it drew me in from the start. I loved both Sebastian & Marianne both were strong characters he was a rake & she a wallflower but as she began to complete Claudia’s bucket list she gained confidence & was suddenly noticed. I loved the dynamics of their relationship & how things changed as the chemistry between them sizzled. I also loved it that Finn & Marianne were close. The story was straight forward but the way the author delivered it made it an engrossing read

I always enjoy when a character steps out of their comfort zone, finds passion, adventure and eventually love. Marianne has had several moments of loss and pain in her life and I was happy to see her find a new kind of joy, like herself a bit more and spend time with her brother’s best friend, Sebastian. Sebastian is the just rake Marianne needs to complete her late friend’s list of things to do before she dies. Sadly, she wasn’t able to complete the list so Marianne is taking her life into her hands (and Sebastian’s hands too of course). This friends to lovers romance is a nice easy read. Their romance is sweet and full of passion. Sebastian and Marianne both fell for each other at different times but in the end, they really found happiness and something a bit unexpected. Her brother, Finn, really loves her and I’m looking forward to his book.

When her best friend and fellow wallflower Lady Claudia dies unexpectedly, Lady Marianne is heartbroken, especially by the small showing at Claudia’s funeral. It sets her to thinking about her own life and when she finds a list of things Claudia wanted to do before she died, she at first shocked and then intrigued. Wanting to honor her friend and live the life her friend so clearly wanted, Marianne sets out to complete the list. And starts by having her maid alter one of her gowns to be more daring, thus accomplishing one of Claudia’s items “Wear Something Daring” and to her complete and utter surprise, this small change triggers a huge change in her life. For the first time she feel “seen” and even garners the attention of her brother’s best friend, Sebastian, the Earl of Ramsbury, a man she has long considered a friend, but one who clearly never saw her as a woman until that night. She asks his help in completing the list (without telling him of the list) and finally admits to herself that what she feels for Sebastian is much more than friendship but knows he will never want a wallflower like her. But that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy the attention while she has it.

Sebastian, the Earl of Ramsbury has been friends with Phineas “Finn”, the Earl of Delacourt and his younger sister Marianne for as long as he can remember, they are two of the most important people in his life and he would never do anything to threaten those relationships. But he starts to see Marianne in a new light when she makes a splash at the Brighthollow ball and has to force himself to remember that he promised Finn that he would never seduce his sister. But some promises need to be broken and when he shares a forbidden kiss with Marianne, he is lost and might end up losing everyone he cares about if he can’t control his desire for the only woman he absolutely shouldn’t want.

I liked this book, but it wasn’t really the story I was hoping for, as Marianne turns out to be a sort of Regency era Pollyanna. She was a very nice character – maybe too nice and even with her “daringness” to complete Claudia’s list with things like: Fill my dance card, learn to play billiards, and go to a party uninvited. There was nothing really shocking (save the last item on the list) to my jaded mind. And as much as I love a good “Brother’s Best Friend” trope, this wasn’t quite that, since Sebastian was already legitimately good friends with her, so I think I had a hard time accepting that he never “saw” her until that ball. Anyway, it was a cute story with a bit of drama and some fairly steamy scenes, but I just felt like this could have been so much more than it was, that being said, I did enjoy the book and would happily recommend it. I am also looking forward to reading Finn’s story which is the next book in the series.

The Wallflower List (About An Earl #1) by Jess Michaels - 3 stars

I received an ARC from the author/publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
I give this book 3 stars because it was a quick, enjoyable read that delivered on the promises of its premise. However, the story didn't leave a lasting impression—the characters felt flat and were ultimately forgettable.
The story follows Lady Marianne, who, after an unsuccessful debut, is content to remain a wallflower as long as she has her friend Claudia by her side. However, we only see their bond in a brief prologue, and after Claudia's death, we only witness Marianne's reaction to her absence. This loss propels the protagonist to take bold steps forward, but I would have loved more glimpses into their shared past to deepen the emotional impact, some stories about them together would have improved the story.
One of the scenes that got stuck to my mind was the scene of Claudia’s funeral. It portrayed how being a "wallflower" affects your social status even after you have left the world – only her family and her best friend graved for her. It not only affected the main female character, but it also made me consider mine social status and relationship. The idea of not leaving anything meaningful and memorable behind scared me - passing without a significant impact is haunting.
Lady Marianne receives a secret list with her friends wishes – her wildest desires and unachieved dreams. She is deeply affected and starts plotting how to do some of the stuff from the list. This is when Sebastian comes to play. He is the one who first sees Marianna’s strange behavior and suspects something is wrong. I found the relationship between the main characters a bit strange, I didn’t really feel their connection in romantic aspect. We could feel their physical attraction and the tension between them, but the emotional side was a bit lacking.
Sebastian’s character was also not that well-built. There was more from his story that we could have gotten that would have made his character deeper. On the other hand, I really enjoyed Lady Marianne’s development – how she became more confident in her own skin and started expeiriencing live. It was awesome to see her stand for herself and express her opinions.
The book is good quick read, and I would love to read more books from this author. I already have suspicions about who is going to be the next main character in the series and after reading the prologue sparked my interest.

Overall, a nice read which opens the door for even more interesting books in the future.
Some quotes that I have highlighted:
- "Perfect" he said softly. "Yoy are perfect"
- " I'm sure you have far better things to do than to spend time with me." He blinked at the statement. In this moment he could think of nothing he'd rather do than exactly that. Not one singular thing.

Thanks again to NetGalley and The Passionate Pen LLC for sending me this book and for giving me my first opportunity to review an ARC.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I really love Regency romances. I thought the premise sounded really interesting. I love the idea that Marianne is an introvert who is stepping out for the first time and doing things that are outside her comfort zone. I loved that it was her friend who passed away who inspired her. I would’ve liked to see a little more background for Sebastian. I thought their relationship was really good, but it seemed like he was a little more mysterious. I would’ve liked to see more of why he was interested in her. It seemed a little sudden. But overall, I really enjoyed the story. I would definitely check out another book by this author.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Regency romance!

OMG, this story was pure fire! The Wallflower List is a must-read for anyone craving an intense, forbidden love story that dives deep without the typical self-sabotage. Jess Michaels takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, leaving you breathless with passion, agony, and everything in between.

Marianne, a wallflower with a fierce spirit, is in love with her brother’s best friend, Sebastian. At first, Sebastian only sees Marianne as a friend—a comfortable companion—but when Marianne inherits her late friend Claudia’s jewelry box and discovers a hidden bucket list, her life takes a turn. Inspired to break free from her wallflower shell, she blossoms in ways that spark a whole new fire in Sebastian. Suddenly, the friend he thought he knew ignites something he can’t ignore, and the chemistry between them explodes.

What I loved about Marianne is how she takes control of her life, breaking out of routine and embracing the courage to pursue the man she’s secretly loved. Her boldness is inspiring, and as she transforms, so does Sebastian’s view of her. He’s always felt excitement around her, but now he feels a need that borders on torment. And when they finally give in—holy smokes—the passion practically burns off the page!

This story hits every emotion. From the thrill of Marianne embracing her desires to Sebastian’s heart-wrenching struggle with his own feelings, Michaels weaves in all the tension, longing, and tender vulnerability. Sebastian’s struggle, torn between his feelings for Marianne and the fear of betraying his closest friend, is beautifully handled, making their journey that much more impactful.

Jess Michaels brings every moment to life with raw intensity. The way Sebastian slowly realizes he can’t live without Marianne is absolutely heart-melting. Moments like these will stay with you:
• “The last ten days without you have been the worst of my life. All I have thought about, dreamed about, written about is you…”
• “I want to see you, Marianne. I want to see you and touch you and taste you until you are weak with it. Tell me yes. Please tell me yes.”

The Wallflower List is one of those romances that reminds you what it’s like to be utterly consumed by love. It’s passionate, emotional, and unforgettable. Highly, highly recommend!

Tropes: friends to lovers; MC's haunted by their pasts
Steam level: 3
First in a series.

3.5 stars. This is a bit of a "guilty pleasure" author for me. I was on the fence between 3 and 4 stars but ultimately nudged up due to the MC's and how much I was rooting for their HEA. Often in HR's there's some 2nd or 3rd act convoluted complication or misunderstanding that makes one or both MC's look rather TSTL or like a poor bargain, just to create angst. But that isn't the case here. MFC Marianne has led a quiet, mundane existence, in large part because of her late parents' awful behavior, but the passing of her best friend prompts her to break out of her shell. MMC Sebastian has been a "bad boy" to try to bury his own childhood demons. They have been friends for years, until they start to shake free of their roles and finally realize they're perfect for each other. At the heart of the steamy scenes is a refreshing sweetness. Marianne, especially, is charming and kind without being sugary or Mary Sue-ish.

Not that this is a perfect book. Sebastian's attraction to Marianne comes across as shallow at first. I wanted more of his introspection to focus on their pasts together and how she helped heal him emotionally when they were young, and less obsession with her clothes and hair. The pacing in the middle drags somewhat. Also, I wanted more backstory on Marianne's best friend's passing; it's abrupt and the secondary characters' reactions are too crass. Her brother and even Sebastian are indifferent to the point that it casts them in a negative light. In fact, Marianne's brother seems cold through most of the book, until suddenly near the end; I'm wondering if the next book will uncover the reason for the character inconsistency.

One last nitpick: the writing style isn't as refined as it could be. A smidge of editing would have helped the clunkier phrases.

Overall, though, if you're drawn in by the MC's, you'll enjoy this.

I read an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my honest, voluntary review. Thanks to the author, publisher, and Net Galley.

As a spinster wallflower, who do you secretly enlist to complete the bucket list your late best friend and fellow wallflower left you?
Your brother’s best friend childhood crush!
He likes you plenty, and it’s not like a renowned rake is ever going to choose you… or is it?

~ Marianne & Sebastian ~
She’s devastated over her best friend’s loss, and how little society seems to care. So when she finds a hidden list of things her friend had wanted to do before she died, she’s tempted to step outside of her comfort zone and do a few daring things. And why not try a few on a trusted family friend, a man she’s known and loved for as long as she remember?
He’s an earl living a life of leisure and pleasure when his best friend’s little sister - also his only female friend - starts acting different. Is it grief? Or is it something else? And why is she suddenly all grown up and invading his every single thought? He promised her brother he wouldn’t touch her a long time ago, but someone has to keep an eye on her...

Forbidden fruit never tasted so sweet!
This novel is different from what I’m used to by this author - the sweep me of my feet, swoonworthy, melt my heart kind of different. But, the steam remained as wickedly delicious as ever!
It’s a pretty straightforward cliché plot, but the execution makes all the difference! It’s naughty, playful and daring - as the list suggests - but there’s also a touching vulnerability, deep-rooted friendship, and the agony of choosing between what’s right and what the heart desires. It’s honour, protectiveness and the complete inability to stay away. There’s laughter and tears, a beautiful bond between siblings, just a hint of drama and tons of love!
It’s was a wonderful and entertaining read, and I’m eagerly looking forward to what’s next in this series!

The Wallflower List by Jess Michaels
About an Earl #1

An author that never lets me down ~ Great beginning to the series ~ Can’t wait for book two!

What I liked:
* Lady Marianne: quiet, unassuming, wallflower, crush on Sebastian, good friend, loving sister, caring, good listener, grows a lot in this story
* Sebastian: an earl, a rake, best friend to Marianne’s brother Finn, Marianne’s friend, had a difficult childhood, avoids emotional entanglements, grows a lot in this story
* Claudia: Marianne’s best friend, wallflower, dies too young, has dreams, leaves a life changing gift to Marianne
* Finn: Marianne’s older brother, an earl, kind, protective, good friend, caring, seems to have something on his mind, looking forward to his story in book two of this series
* The strong friendships: Marianne and Claudia, Finn and Sebastian, and Sebastian and Marianne
* The open communication between the characters
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* That Marianne was no wilting flower but a bud waiting to open
* That Sebastian needed a key to unlock his emotions and found it in Marianne
* Claudia’s list and how it impacted both Marianne and Sebastian
* Knowing that Finn’s book is next
* Everything except…

What I didn’t like:
* Both main characters’ parents – it wouldn’t be easy growing up with them
* Thinking about how women were relegated to wallflower status and what that meant for their futures

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This is an amazing beginning for a new series! I’m already waiting for the next one. Marianne is a wonderful character. She is strong and resilient. Them being friends was amazing; the way he helps her and it’s there for her is beautiful to see. Sebastian is sweet, and sexy and really loyal. Jess has the ability to break my heart in a million pieces and mend it in the next paragraph. Her stories are full of steamy moments but also aghast, complex characters and meaningful dialogs.
I HIGHLY recommend not only this, but all her books.

"Well, you know best when it comes to desire. If you say it will fade, then I believe you." (famous last words)

After the unexpected death of her best friend, wallflower Marianne finds the unfulfilled bucket list she had left behind. Vowing to accomplish the list herself, Marianne starts crossing items off -- with her brother's rakish best friend, Sebastian.

I really love the premise of a woman who realizes that she's settled in to a sort of half-life on the fringes of the Ton and deciding to make changes. And who doesn't love a brother's-best-friend and my-brother-can-never-find out! I appreciated that the thing keeping them apart wasn't that Sebastian was a huge jerk and Marianne had to find a way to forgive him for it. He's always very sweet with her, even before it's obvious that their relationship will grow into something more.

That being said, I wish there was more evidence that Sebastian had been interested in her before she made these big changes to her life. His friendship with her brother is obviously very precious to him, but the concern is always that he would lose his friendship and never that he might lose hers. And I wish there was more a connection between Marianne and the friend who had left the list, Claudia. I think there was a missed opportunity to talk about why it was so important to finish this list on behalf of her best friend, outside of just making her own life more "daring".

Overall a 3.5 out of 5 stars! I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure I'll reach for it again as a re-read

(I received the book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion)
The intro was stellar and made me invested in the FMC, Marianne, and her friendship with Claudia, which made Chapter 2 all the more gutting. The friendship between Sebastian and Marianne's brother was also well developed and you could see how much they meant to each other.
I really appreciate that this book deals with heavy subjects but is low angst so it doesn't leave you devastated. Sebastian says some particularly filthy things that had me blushing, but I'd consider the spice level 🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of 5?

The main couple grew on me by the end of the book and I’m looking forward to the next in the series, which will be about Finn.

- Mild spoilers -
At first the book was hard to get into because there was frequent “I’m an old virgin spinster no one loves me,” but luckily the 2nd half of the book had less of that as she found her confidence and value as a person rather than a potential wife. The beginning was also difficult for me because I found it hard to believe that she has a brother and still doesn't know what the f-bomb means (she could have at least asked the maids?), has never accidentally seen a naked man (really? not even swimming in a river at the country estate?), and knows literally nothing about boxing (despite it being popular and probably in the newspapers). But hey, this is historical romance so I forgive it 😅

The Wallflower List is the first in Jess Michaels’ new series, and I like the concept overall, even if it missed the mark somewhat in execution. I generally like the idea of a wallflower “going wild” with her rakish companion by her side (and in her bed), and this one has a special twist that the female lead, Marianne, is paying tribute to her friend, Claudia, who was a fellow wallflower, and had daring dreams she tragically died before she could fulfill. And in theory,
But I struggled to really become invested in the characters beyond their archetypes. I don’t go into a Jess Michaels book expecting a ton of emotional depth, but I at least expect the leads to make an impression, and both Marianne and Sebastian are very forgettable, essentially cardboard cutouts of what you’d expect from the wallflower and the rake. The sexual chemistry is there, but I didn’t feel any emotional bond, despite their prior acquaintance, and I know from other books that Michaels can build it in her characters, so it’s a disappointment to find it lacking here.
But for a short read, it’s serviceable, even though it did not rock my world. I’d still recommend it if you’re looking for a short, sexy historical romance.

This book completely surprised me—in the very best way. What begins as a quiet wallflower story blooms into a heartfelt, sensual, and deeply emotional romance that lingers long after the last page.

Lady Marianne’s grief over losing her friend Claudia is tenderly written, and the idea of honoring her through a secret bucket list is both bittersweet and empowering. Watching Marianne step out of the shadows, question the life she’s accepted, and slowly claim her own desires is incredibly satisfying. Her growth feels earned, vulnerable, and inspiring.

Sebastian, Earl of Ramsbury, is the perfect foil: a charming, wicked rake who has always seen Marianne as untouchable—until he can’t. The friends-to-lovers tension is exquisite, layered with longing, restraint, and that delicious “we shouldn’t, but we want to” energy. When the lines finally blur, the passion is intense and emotionally charged, not just steamy for the sake of it, but transformative for them both.

What I loved most is how the romance intertwines with Marianne’s journey of self-discovery. Each item on the list brings her closer to the woman she wants to be—and to the love she never thought she deserved. This is a beautiful story about courage, grief, and risking your heart, and it’s impossible not to root for Marianne and Sebastian every step of the way.

Lady Marianne has been a wallflower since her disastrous debut, but has always had Claudia to keep her company. When Claudia dies, she leaves Marianne her jewellery box and a hidden list of things her friend wanted to do in her life. Marianne begins to question her life and future and so she decides to attempt all of her friend’s bucket list and enlists Sebastian, the Earl of Ramsbury, to assist her. Sebastian has been best friends with Marianne’s brother for almost his entire life and has stood by his friend’s edict, to never be anything more than a friend to Marianne. However, her proposal makes him see her in another light. Soon their attraction has them rethinking their future.
This is a romance filled with some tension as Sebastian realises that his burgeoning romance with Marianne, posing a threat to his friendship with her brother, Finn. Their romance is sweet, as they have been friends for several years. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I do love me some Jess Michaels even though I don't know that "The Wallflower List" is one of her best. FMC Marianne is a long-time wallflower who sets out to complete a life goals list written by her recently deceased best friend. MMC Sebastian has long been in Marianne's life, being her older brother's best friend. She has been in love with him for nearly that entire time, though she has hidden it - along with much of her true self - quite well. The list, though, brings out some of that true self - and leads Sebastian to see her in a new light.

This book has Jess Michaels' trademark spice and I enjoyed Marianne's journey to being more than she might have ever expected. Sebastian and Marianne have excellent chemistry, and the reasons for why they both thought his friendship with her brother should take precedence over their feelings for each other actually made sense - even as everyone knows those reasons will soon go by the wayside. I think "The Wallflower List" is a historical romance worth reading.

3.5 stars, rounded to 4. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. These opinions are my own.

The Wallflower List is the first book in Jess Michael’s About an Earl series and can be read as a standalone. Lady Marianne, a wallflower since her disastrous debut, finds a hidden bucket list left by her late friend Claudia. Inspired to complete it, she seeks help from Sebastian, Earl of Ramsbury, who has always seen her as just a friend. As they grow closer, unexpected passions ignite between them. But will an old promise to Claudia stand in the way of their connection, or will Marianne's last wish be to fall in love with a charming rake?
It has been a while since I read anything by Jess Michaels but I am reminded why I do enjoy her books so much. This was a well-paced and entertaining read with many of my favourite tropes [rake/wallflower, brother’s best friend etc] all working well together. Marianne and Sebastian were a charming couple and I loved reading their story. Marianne’s relationship with her brother was really sweet.

I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am a fan of jess michaels but this book just was average for me at 3 stars.

Marianne is a wallflower and when her best friend and fellow wallflower Claudia dies and is not mourned by anyone but herself, Marianne worries that she would also not be missed. When she recieves a jewelry box bequeath to her by Claudia she finds her list of things to do before dying and becomes determined to finish the list for both Claudia and her own sake.

She sets off on accomplish the list which is actually is pretty stereotypical for the time. Learn how to play billiards, have a full dance card, have a love affair. She gets her brothers best friend to become her unknowing accomplice and the man she had liked since she met him.

Both Marianne and Sebastian were just a little bland and the story just didn't stand out in any way. It wasn't bad but just not different in any way. Very much felt like hitting tropes.

3 stars.

Lady Marianne has been a wallflower following a disastrous debut. Her best friend is fellow wallflower Lady Claudia.
Sebastian, Earl of Ramsbury, has known Lady Marianne since she was a young girl, as he is best friends with her older brother. He is also a bit of a rake.
While it seems unlikely that Marianne and Sebastian will be more than friends, the universe has other plans. The unexpectedly swift death of Lady Claudia serves as the catalyst. A list she leaves behind helps to bind Marianne and Sebastian to each, but the road is not without dips and bumps. Their relationship goes from friendship to love in a most organic way, and it's quite pleasant to read & watch unfold.
This was my first time reading Jess Michaels, but it will not be my last. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Marianne, the wallflower lost her friend who was just as shy as here, and in doing so is given a chance to rethink how she has accepted what her life will be like forever until she dies. Her friend Claudia bequeaths her a list of things she wanted to experience before dying and so Marianne decides she would be her champion, not only for her friend but for herself.

The attracting to her brother's best friend has always been a part of Mari's life with him but as she gains confidence and explores the world more fully, not caging herself like the society has taught her, she attracts his attention as well. And there begins the attraction and the affair that finally opens Sebastian's heart up to the possibility of a future of love with Marianne.

Good read with some daring and some heartache.

I was really excited to read this one but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be. Around 35% of the book, the chemistry of our main characters completely fizzled out. I was enjoying the book up to that point but suddenly everything was starting to get rushed and the slow development of our character's relationship went off the rails into insta love territory.

After that, I couldn't feel any chemistry between our characters. Marianna's growth which was just starting was completely sidelined which led to her having almost no character. I think the pacing may be to blame. Adding a companion to Mariana and focusing more on her growth would have really helped, I believe.

Thanks to the publisher for this ARC!

Lady Marianne, sister to the Earl of Delacourt, was a wallflower who started to enjoy her life after the untimely death of her best friend Claudia. After she finds a list Claudia made for herself in a jewelry box she left to her, Marianne decides to act on the things contained in the list. Sebastian, the Earl of Ramsbury, is a friend of Marianne’s and best friend to her brother. The Wallflower List is a perfect example of what can happen when an assumed spinster lets her hair down and becomes daring with someone she trusts to keep her safe and also keep her secrets.🔥🔥💕💕. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.

A great start to this new series! Marianne had a disastrous coming out years ago and is now just a wallflower with no prospects. After her best friend Claudia dies, she discovers a list Claudia had made a bucket list and she decides to set out and complete them for her friend.

Sebastian is her brother's best friend and she has always been attracted to him and he has always been fond of her as well. After she starts acting different because she is secretly doing the list, he is intrigued and has trouble staying away.

The romance is spicy and sweet and the story is so good. I can't wait for Finn's story!

Marianne lost her best friend, Claudia, a fellow wallflower. Gifted a jewelry box after her death, she finds a concealed note of her friend's list of wishes to do before she dies. Marianne decides to fulfill the list herself with her brother's best friend, Sebastian, the Earl of Ramsbury.
Surprised at her requests, Sebastian is willing to do whatever she asks. But things are changing between them that leaves him confused and constantly thinking about Marianne. She sees the challenges on the list as opportunities to be closer to Sebastian, the man she loves. Will this bring them closer together or destroy their relationship?
A very clever trope with sizzling kisses and explicit sex.
