RANDOM THOUGHTS

-Okay, so Marie Force is killing it with this series. She’s got this way of pulling you into the crazy worlds of the Washington PD and the White House, mixing high-stakes drama with everyday life stuff that just works. It’s the characters, the stories, and all the little details that keep me hooked. Like, I can’t stop coming back for more.
Sam and Nick? Total couple goals. They’re out here dealing with the wildest situations, juggling insane jobs, and still managing to raise this amazing, loving family. Like, how do they even do it? They’re the definition of power couple vibes, and I’m here for it.
So, there’s this moment where Sam’s famous gut instinct—her “tingles”—totally lets her down for the first time. It was kinda shocking, honestly, because she’s always so on point. But you know what? She owned it. She messed up, apologized, and fixed it. That’s what makes her such a great detective and leader. No ego, just doing the job right.
Eva Kaminsky’s narration? Solid. Her voice is smooth and easy to listen to, though I kept thinking how cool it would be to have a guy voicing the male characters too. Still, she nailed it and kept me hooked.
The story itself was packed with twists, like always. I’m already dying to know what’s next for the First Family and their crew. But, okay, there were a couple of things that bugged me. Freddie and Lindsey’s reaction to Sam’s confession? Weird. Like, you’re both cops—how do you not get that national security comes before friendship? It felt off.
Also, Sam’s work-life balance was kinda… yikes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for women having careers, but she was barely around for her kids, even on weekends. It made me sad for her and her family, especially since Nick seems way more present.
But hey, the book is still a great read. Nick and Sam together? Magic. Their chemistry, their banter, even the boring everyday stuff—it all just works. And the way they parent as a team? Love it.
Oh, and every scene with Scotty and the twins? Pure gold. Those moments added so much warmth and humor to the story.
The case in this one was super interesting, too. It kept me guessing, and it really tested Sam’s skills. Plus, Nick’s storyline with the military officer’s death? Intense.
This book also made me curious about the Fatal series. I kinda want to go back and see how Nick and Sam first got together—like, how did he flirt with her? How did they even start? I feel like it’d be so fun to see where it all began.
All in all, this series is still delivering. It’s got suspense, heart, and characters you can’t help but root for. Yeah, there are a few things that bug me, but it’s a world I’m always excited to dive back into.
