After a failed romance in Texas, Bryce Enders has carved out a new life in the harsh wastes of Montana’s gold fields. But when a newspaper headline reveals the wild escapades of his younger brother, Bryce’s path takes an unexpected turn. He heads for Ogallala, Nebraska, where he’s shocked to find Cort not only married, but also thriving as the owner of a sprawling cattle ranch.
While their reunion is far from smooth, the brothers quickly rediscover their old affection for one another and Cort offers Bryce a job on the ranch. As he settles into his new life, Bryce becomes entangled in a new set of troubles—this time of the heart. His growing affection for Hannah May, a neighbor struggling to keep her ranch afloat, soon becomes impossible to ignore. But there’s a catch. She’s already married to a brute who abandoned her for the lure of gold. Torn between his sense of honor and his undeniable feelings for Hannah, Bryce faces a dilemma as old as time.
Hannah is trapped between her steadfast Christian values and the harsh reality of her situation. Despite her husband’s cruelty, her sacred vows keep her tethered to a man who may well be dead. Bryce's determination to free her only deepens the conflict, as a dark secret from his past emerges to haunt him.
Knowing their futures depend on resolving this standoff, Bryce and Cort embark on a perilous journey back to the gold fields. What they find will test their brotherhood, challenge their resolve, and ignite a conflict with Hannah’s husband neither could foresee.
Enduring Promise is the second book in the promises series by Susanna Lane, in the book we meet Bryce he rides in to Ogalla and asks the bartender if he knows any Enders. When the man says yes Bryce knows his long ride is over he has been looking for his Younger brother Court. When he finally reunite with his brother his long weary journey of heartbreak is an over not too long after arriving he meets the neighbor Hannah who he falls instantly in love with which is married to a jerk of a man who is MIA and has left her destitute trying to keep the little farm together. Then relatives of his first love arrive with his 12-year-old son Ray and Bryce doesn’t know what to do with this nor how to raise a child but intend on doing his best. The whole time begging Hannah to divorce her know good husband and marry him. When things couldn’t get any crazier a tornado happens then they learn the husband of his first lov Gabriellae and the reason he left Texas isn’t search of Reyes and the whole time Hannah is still clinging to the oath she took to a man she didn’t love nor wanted to be married to. Will Hannah‘s husband Lars ever come back or will she ever be rid of him so she could be with Bryce and will Bryce and his son Reyes have a cordial relationship at the very least? Let me just say I am a big fan and I mean a humongous fan of historical western romances and was so excited to get this one but this book has a lot going on. I mean for one thing Bryce it’s unlike any cowboy I’ve ever read in any romance book he reacted to problems like a petulant child not to mention this book pretty much played out like the first book that and I’m OK with knowing somethings going to happen but every chapter they hear a tornado then Gabriel‘s husband was around on his way to his brothers they almost hung him and I could go on and on not to mention when he went to the ribbon Catillia and said he was coming back with a wife and he came back and the whole family including the ranch hands were upset with him. Not to mention the big wedding dinner that lark and Teresa made for when he returned from the dance, even though they knew he wasn’t returning with a Bride. I’m going to be honest and say I stopped reading this book at 88% because when the final thing happened and Bryce once again threw a hissy fit I was out and was so done with this book. I find most Romance stories are basically wash rinse spin and repeat except for a few great reads but most of them are basically predictable but this one was not only predictable instead of letting you get to know the characters to extend the story it seems she kept putting one dramatic part after another whenever things would become OK there would be something else happening. I love historical westerns and read a lot of them I would’ve finish this one it’s not for the excessive need for anger tears and forgiveness over and over again it just got old. Not to mention these were the strangest cowboys I’ve run into in the western romance. I feel bad and as if I’m being too hard on this book but having read so many historical western romances I’ve come to expect Cowboys to be Cowboys and not act like drama queens. #NetGalley, #SusannaLane, #EnduringPromises,
"Enduring Promise" by Susanna Lane is a captivating story that drew me in from the very first pages. The characters are richly developed and intriguing, while the historical setting immerses the reader in the vibrant world of the late 19th-century American West. Lane skillfully evokes the attitudes and cultural nuances of the time through her gripping scenes and the complexity of her characters.
The story follows Bryce Enders, a man who, after a heart-wrenching failed romance in Texas, has tried to build a new life in the unforgiving landscapes of Montana’s gold fields. The harshness of his surroundings mirrors his emotional state as he grapples with his past. Everything changes when a sensational newspaper headline reveals the wild escapades of his younger brother, Cort. Intrigued yet troubled, Bryce feels an undeniable pull to travel to Ogallala, Nebraska, where he is shocked to discover that Cort has not only married but is also thriving as the owner of a large cattle ranch. This revelation stirs a mix of emotions in Bryce, who has endured his own share of challenges, having served bravely in the Civil War, sought fortune through gold panning, worked as a train guard, and managed cattle on the rugged frontier.
On the other side of the story is Hannah, a woman caught in a web of her own making. She struggles with the conflict between her unwavering Christian values and the painful reality of her situation. Bound by sacred vows to a cruel husband, she is trapped in a life that may be leading to her own undoing, especially as her husband’s fate becomes uncertain. When Bryce intervenes and expresses his determination to free her from this oppressive situation, it heightens the tension between them, complicating Hannah’s internal battle with her faith and personal desires. Additionally, a dark secret from Bryce's past begins to resurface, adding layers of complexity to his motivations and actions.
As a devoted fan of historical westerns, I found "Enduring Promise" to be a thrilling read, brimming with action and emotional depth. Lane's narrative combines adventure with profound themes of love, sacrifice, and the struggle for freedom, making it a standout addition to the genre. The interplay between Bryce and Hannah, with their distinct yet intertwined journeys, creates a compelling tale that kept me engaged until the very last page.
Enduring Promise, an engaging novel by Susanna Lane, takes place in Nebraska, 1878.
Bryce Enders has had a varied, hard life. He served in the Civil War, panned for gold, was a train guard, and long ago, worked cattle. Now he’s in search of his younger brother whom he hasn’t seen in years, since Bryce went off to war.
In Ogallala, he asks about his brother Cort and learns that Cort has a ranch, the Double E, within a two-day riding distance. The ride is fraught with near disaster, but when the brothers finally reunite they’re almost strangers, though there is a strong family resemblance. The 20,000-acre ranch is thriving and Bryce is welcomed to sign on, work the ranch with his brother.
While tracking down cattle, Bryce comes across a neighboring run-down ranch house. He sees that all of the buildings are in disrepair. Hannah, the attractive owner, explains that a storm wrecked the house and barn. Then, more recently, Cort’s cattle broke her fence and scattered her livestock and chickens. Bryce and the other hands repair the damage. In digging a little further, Bryce learns that Hannah’s abusive husband is seldom around. He has a bad reputation and is gone for long periods of time.
As Bryce helps to restore order on Hannah’s ranch, they can’t deny their attraction to one another. However, Hannah takes her wedding vows seriously and resists acknowledging her strong feelings toward Bryce. Even though Bryce restrains himself, he is determined to free Hannah from vows that apparently mean nothing to her husband. Bryce’s determination to free Hannah could back-fire, putting himself and her in terrible danger.
Enduring Promise, the second of the “Promise” series, is a fast-paced novel packed with action and strong characters. The author effectively captures the attitudes of the time period with gripping scenes and well-defined characters. It is a worthy sequel to Imperfect Promise, the first book of the series.
Once again, Susanna Lane, a multi-award-winning author, has created another heart warming novel that readers won’t be able to put down and have them anxiously awaiting for book three. Enduring Promise is an epic family saga that continues from her first SPUR and Will Rogers Medallion award-winning novel, Imperfect Promise. Lane has crafted a story that captures the reader’s heart from the very first page while weaving together action and suspense along with love and the strengths and struggles of familial relationships. You won’t want this story to end. Searching for his brother Colt, Bryce Enders has been wandering from one corner of the country to another since the end of the Civil War when he stumbles upon the man he left behind when he followed his father into battle. After years apart and seeing what his brother has achieved, a loving wife, a ranch, and prosperity, their reunion is bittersweet. Bryce finds himself yearning to settle down with a family of his own when he meets Hannah May, a captivating and strong-willed woman surviving alone on her derelict Nebraska ranch after being abandoned by her husband. Despite her hardships, Hannah remains committed to the Christian vows of her marriage, while the growing love between her and Bryce takes the reader on an action-packed journey of twists and turns. Steadfast in winning Hannah’s heart, Bryce takes on the grueling task of finding her wayward husband in order to release her from their bond. Adding to the story, Lane sneaks in a special delivery, which I won’t give away. But I can say that it catches Bryce Enders off-guard and forever changes his life. Follow along as Susanna Lane weaves a beautiful tale of how love, commitment, and perseverance prevail in bringing two people destined to be together. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is obvious Ms. Lane wrote this from her heart. I highly recommend this book.
Romance lives! The “will they or won’t they” element, the unrelenting suspense, the endearing characters, the shocks and surprises—all of this kept me intently turning pages. While the book stands alone with a satisfying ending, I still want to return in the next installment of this series (due 2025) to check in on the Enders brothers, their strong wives, the loyal ranch hands, household help who are like family, and some of the scariest villains I’ve read on paper, all of this within a dramatic western landscape. Lane can write about love as well as anyone out there. Even though the action takes place in the dangerous late 1800’s, the relationships have a modern, or rather age-old, gamut of emotions--jealousy, frustration, lust, loyalty, fear, etc. I look forward to re- joining this cast of genuine and likeable characters in her next book.
Just finished Susanna Lane's "Enduring Promise"! Glad I took a friend's recommendation to pick up her first novel, "Imperfect Promise". Seamless transition from that book to this one and it's been fun to meet new characters in the Enders brothers' saga. Very engaging. New to Western fiction and Susanna Lane's storytelling has me hooked. Hoping for more from this author soon!
Book 2 is just as great as book one!! Cort and Lark are back ... and now we meet Bryce, Cort's brother. He has a story of his own that grows throughout the book. But he meets obstacles and it seems like they will never move out of the way. Will he walk away or keep trying? Recommended reading!
After reading Susanna Lane's award-winning 1st book, "Imperfect Promise", I patiently awaited book two. Just finished reading and LOVED it! I love this author's style, characters and scenes! I was enthralled and entertained! Fantastic book! Looking forward to more from this author!
We continue the story with Cort and Lark and Bryce, who is Corts long lost brother. We follow the story as he becomes involved with the neighbor lady, who has a complicated past. Can love win out, follow the story and pick up a copy today! You will not be disappointed! Tina
Cowboys, Romance, Love, Fear, Sorrow, Joy! I loved the way Susanna Lane is able to keep me intrigued at each twist and turn. You will have to read it to find out if Bryce Enders will wind up with the love of his life Hannah, who happens to be married to the worst gold mining ruffian out there!
I was so excited to be able to read the second book, Enduring Promise, by Susanna Lane. The story picks up where it left off at the Double E Ranch, but this time focusing on Cort's brother, Bryce. They have finally reunited and it's Bryce's turn at romance. He sets his sights on the lovely neighbor Hannah, who returns his cowboy charm with her own quick wit. However, she is already married to a brute of a man who has left her alone in charge of managing the homestead. Bryce suffers through trials and tribulations to win over Hannah's heart.
The wait is over, with Susanna Lane's second book, "Enduring Promise," available now. The award-winning “Imperfect Promise,” the first book in the series, highlighted Lark and Cort Enders's story as they found themselves, having made foolish and imperfect promises to one another despite their good intentions.
In book two, readers find two new characters who take center stage: Cort's brother Bryce Enders, and Hannah May, a neighbor struggling to keep her ranch afloat with a husband who has left her in search of gold.
After a failed romance in Texas, Bryce Enders has carved out a new life in the harsh wastes of Montana’s gold fields. But when a newspaper headline reveals the wild escapades of his younger brother, Bryce’s path takes an unexpected turn. He heads for Ogallala, Nebraska, where he’s surprised to find Cort married and thriving as a sprawling cattle ranch owner. While their reunion is far from smooth, the brothers quickly rediscover their old affection for one another, and Cort offers Bryce a job on the ranch. As he settles into his new life, Bryce becomes entangled in a new set of troubles—this time of the heart. His growing affection for Hannah May soon becomes impossible to ignore. Bryce is torn between his sense of honor and his undeniable feelings for Hannah, who upholds a high sense of Christian morality despite the harsh reality of her situation and her husband's cruelty. Bryce's determination to free her only deepens the conflict as a dark secret from his past emerges to haunt him. Enduring promises are made between Bryce and Hannah, but will they be able to keep them?
Lane's writing style is easy to follow, with crisp, clear sentences and realistic dialogue. The highs and lows of emotions keep the reader invested in the storyline. She does an excellent job developing likable, relatable characters that readers can identify with. Her characters exhibit compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to family with a sense of hopefulness as each faces a variety of adversities. A willingness to uphold Christian values was evident in the storyline.
Lane effectively captures the sweeping Nebraska landscape of the time period and the spirit of the settlers. I'm hoping the wait for book three will not be too long. Lane has definitely perfected the Western genre of romance.
