Just In Case: If you're reading this...

Rate this book
Dearest readers,
In the military, it is encouraged to write a letter to loved ones explaining how much you care for them, and also providing any important information they’d need to know. This is often called the ‘Just in Case’ letter. This story is based on a letter I wrote in 2010 to my husband before we both deployed to the Middle East. This story follows soldiers Scarlett and Atlas Harvick, a ‘just in case’ letter, and what happened to the family after one of them received one. I hope you enjoy it.

Oof. This book hit me right in the feels. As being a dual military veteran marriage myself; this one was hard to wrap my mind around. I often found myself wondering that if my husband and I had been married while in the Army; if our lives would have been similar to that of Atlas and Scarlett. Yes this one was hard but it was necessary. And yes, I gave it 5 stars… I know; normally my rule is “no dragon, no 5 stars” but it did have a Valkyrie…

I made sure to slow down and take my time with this book. Reading a few chapters each day because I knew deep down that this one was going to be important to me.
This story is beautiful and heartfelt. Loving and heartbreaking. I laughed, I loved, I cried. All while we followed Atlas through his life raising his twin daughters after his wife Scarlett’s life was lost during war. The author is a Veteran herself and it shows in every page that she’s written here. I read this book on Kindle but have EVERY intention of getting a physical copy to trophy.

Scarlett Harvick is a soldier and with her soldier husband Atlas, is deployed overseas. When on patrol her truck is destroyed by a bomb. Atlas receives the news and Scarlett’s just in case letter. This last letter which at first is hated becomes a prized possession with time. The couple have twin daughters who are just a year old at home with grandparents. Atlas not only needs to come to terms with the loss of his wife but also with being a single parent. Over time we watch the girls grow up, Atlas’s acceptance of his wife’s death by his coping mechanisms of writing letters to Scarlett on his computer. The angst, learning and acceptance are expressed through his words to Scarlett. This elegantly written book is heartbreaking, heartwarming and emotionally satisfying. I rated this book a 5 ⭐️ and highly recommend reading it as soon as you can. I was in tears one moment and giggling the next as we witness the growth of Atlas and his daughters. Run don’t walk to read this book!

For the love of all things holy, read this with caution. Check your triggers and if you have anything to do with military life ... be forewarned, this will break your heart into a million pieces.

I do not think I've cried so much, it brought out so many memories and made me remember how blessed I was not to have to live through something so heartbreaking. I had to take a break from reading this book when I got to the halfway point, because I couldn't take it anymore. It was breaking me and making me very way too much. I finished it today, crying and blubbering. It is such a beautifully written piece, and so full of all the emotions. It's a book, I'm honored and blessed to have sitting on my bookshelf.

Thank you for writing it and thank you for your service!
