Annis and her friends have started a Starlight Salvage, but her life only becomes more chaotic. A criminal organization places a bounty on her head. Her past haunts her and Annis soon finds herself in over her head. She doesn't face these threats alone. Her friends are there to support her in this exciting continuation of the story!
Expect an odd android, pirates, loot, humor, magic, action, and more! Book two continues from where book one left off. It's time for more A.S.S Whipping and her crew!
Annis Del Pounce is still an interesting protagonist, as are many of the people in her orbit. I can see plenty of possibilities for future novels, so I hope that Michael Gnizak is planning to hold our attention for a dozen or more books!
Annis continues to lead by example with a strong sense of who she is & makes the choices she does based on honor and duty. At seventeen she is more mature than (sadly) far too many other people in our current world.
Plot concepts are good, and a good balance of internal strife and external threats, combined with positive, productive motivations. Pacing feels rushed, probably because the author is trying to keep the book below 400 pages or so. I repeatedly found myself thinking, "Wait. Didn't they JUST talk about adding this or that to the ship / business / emit figuring out galaxy-altering tech / entire new fields of math that no one in the GALAXY had thought of for hundreds of years? And barely in days or weeks?" Could be kind of addressed by adding a visual line in whenever the are multi-day+ time-gaps from one paragraph to the next, but fundamentally it often doesn't feel like a realistic time frame, even given the sci-fi, fantasy context. Finally, the understanding of market forces doesn't seem comprehensive, in my opinion. Going from Starlight Salvage to Starlight Corporation with multiple branches that aren't particularly aligned, with minimal experience in the salvage industry, let alone part sales, ship building, mining, medical, etc., and succeeding at most, if not all, of those ventures? With salvage alone, they've done what, 1 actual salvage job, and 3-5 other ships that they themselves scrapped. So, 6 in total, at best, and that's enough for them to instigate Starlight corp? What makes them uniquely able to have successes like this? Salvaging an old destroyer with amazing sensors? Mages? Annis with her DML of all the ship knowledge and details? There is no way that her knowledge would allow her to design ships this effective - where is the intricate understanding of the physics and math required to engineer complex space-worthy craft? If it were included in the DML session then that's fine and logical, but I don't believe it was mentioned. The effect mages could have on everything is potentially huge, and I think if the Author would have focused on that as their unique advantage, exploring mage's abilities from a scientific standpoint, this series could have been far more compelling, and ironically, realistic.
This review is mainly for the author to see, hopefully to provide some feedback as to the incongruence the reader might feel in this series. I still gave it 5 stars, because I think it's a series worth writing and reading! The author's writing is much better than a lot I've read, and with a bit more thought, planning, and plot focus, can be something really good, instead of simply a decent read. I might come across as overly critical, but only because I want this to be a banger series! I'll be reading the next one!
I Loved every page. I was So Glad at the end to see Michael Gnizak say the story would continue. I hated that it was so short. But it was thankfully crammed Full of information about Business, Engineering, Planetary Science, Fringe and Union Law, and A Good grasp of the Structure of Mental/Super Natural Science. If I wore Hats they would definitely be off to you Michael Gnizak.
I enjoy this book as much as the first book. Maybe more. Still got a bit of invention and a bit of magic, but more time was spent on the ground. You can't build an entire corporation from a star ship. So you gotta have some offices. That said, there's plenty of space to go around and still plenty of shooting and flying. Going forward, I hope the author continues to press the magic as much as the tech makes for a nice juxtaposition. I've never read anything from this author before. So I was pleasant be surprised.Don't have to go look at some of his other works.
This series is about a young woman who has to grow up in a hurry. She eventually becomes a salvage operator with an increasingly large crew depending upon her. Of course, the combination of being very good at what she does and not putting up with evildoers causes her to end up in enormous price on her head. The characters are interesting, the plotting is impeccable, and they're quite a few twists and turns. There are a few extremely minor homonyms, but those mistakes are really hard to find. I will definitely read the next book in this series.
I have been a sci fi nut forever, but a lot of books get so caught up in the science part that they forget about storytelling. These two books were fun to read, I enjoyed the characters and their interactions with each other were believable and felt comfortable and realistic. Now, these books are not "Crime and Punishment", nor are they advertised to be. They are what sci fi should be: fun, smart and entertaining. The second book shows growth from the first one, and this new author is one to keep an eye on. Now, where is the third book?
Starlight Salvage is the second book in this series, and it's still a pretty good series. Now I'm ready to read the next book in the series. Already have it checked out on KU. Great scifi stuff here folks. Plenty of corporate backstabbing, tech advancement, and of course, those good old fashioned space battles to boot. Great fun.
Fast paced, ties together well and I read it right through start to finish in one mammoth read. Follows Book 1 logically so it’s worth reading that first, but greatly improved over the first book in technique. Keep improving at this rate Michael and you’ll have a really winning series. Get a better proofreader though because there are quite a few literals (mainly misspellings) which have probably been caused by your spell checker.
The author seems to now have a better handle on the characters and universe they are in and is having more fun with them. The pacing is batter and skill seems to be replacing luck in the story. The dead sister plot device to give the MC a character flaw seems to be a bit overused in this book would be my only complaint. I am enjoying the series and looking forward to more books.
Book 1 was enjoyable. Book2 was more of the same (good plot, good characters and good action). Obviously, the quality of writing was as good as book1. Unfortunately I did notice a few missing words and spelling errors that should have been caught by proofreading. These minor problems didn’t detract much from the story but were noticeable since I had just read book1 and didn’t notice any problems there. Looking forward to book 3.
it’s potato chips, the stale bits at the bottom. super lazy 0/10 recommend
Super fluffy not much plot time waster. And what the heck is the fetishized young lady who is supposed to be our hero? The entire plot line is infantile to begin with, just finding billions of dollars in spaceship complete with billions of dollars in raw materials just floating around. Given to a 17 year old that looks like a 12 girl. Not recommended
Well, I was quite happy to have had the chance to read book 1 & 2. Annis Del Pounce is quite an intriguing character. It has been a very well rounded blend of science and Magic to start with. Quite a few serious issues for a 17 year old to have to deal with.
I really enjoy the feel of this series. The characters are interesting and engaging. The story line and growth of the company I find interesting and it's a fun book to read. I have one suggestion: Using the same letter for three main characters. Annis, Alyse and whoever the third character starting with an A was, the robot girl, slows down the story. Otherwise. Loved it and I look forward to book 3. Anthony Barbera-author.
The worldbuilding is good, the story is definitely a page-turner, and Annis's people are all likeable and memorable. There is some laugh-out-loud humor to offset the dark moments. The tech speak is a little dry but wasn't long enough to ruin the flow of the story. Annis is a fun character, and I'm looking forward to her further adventures.
If you ar looking for a good story about a young group of people with extraordinary minds, this is the story series for you. Follow the exploits of a very young and smart officer in a very interesting story line with lots of twists and character development. Start with book 1 and then proceed to book 2. Then I guess we will all wait for book 3!
I'm impressed and that isn't easy. I was so into the book that I forgot to write a review for the first one wanting to get started on this one. Haven't stopped reading for 8 hours.. if he could blast these out like every 30 to 60 days I would put it up against that micheal guys kgu series. This book rocked.
I really like the fun of the book. It never gets too serious. It plays on the characters growing. I like the fact that the bad guys get popped. And the good guy seemed to come out better every time. Really? Enjoy the characters a whole lot. And I'm grateful that there will be more Well, ridden fun to read, I highly recommend it.
I loved these first 2 books. Characters and story are excellent. Lots of action too. The cover art was incredible. The young lady appears to be looking right at you. So realistic.
I wish you’d get a human proofreader Yeah yah I know You claim to have some woman friend of yours who’s supposedly do it Well She isn’t doing a very good job Way to many simple text errors Really ruins the flow of reading your books Fix it
The adventure continues. Ann and her crew continue to get into one predicament after another. The plot flows from one scenario to another. It’s a positive and refreshing read. Recommend and can’t wait for volume three.
Interesting and original plot! Well-written with strong characters. Love that the heroine looks 12 but is (almost!) 18 yo. I look forward to setting what else the author has written (going to do that right now!!)!
I was reading along and suddenly "The End". It's a good book but it definitely loses a star for ending right in the middle of a meeting. Sadly I want to know what happens next so I'm definitely on the hook for book 3.
So he said she'll be back... Great!!! Guess I need to get on his "following" list so I'll know when she is. You gotta love good sci-fi that's intelligent and not just filled with blood and guts, death and destruction. 🙂
The perfect mixture of character development, adventure, and science. Just when you think things might be settling down, the story takes off again. Characters you can care about interwoven with each other and the science fiction.
A fun and entertaining slice of life. Luck, hard work and magic keep Starlight Salvage and Annis just ahead of trouble. This includes bounty hunters, bad corporations and the Union Navy.
I was happy to see that we will see additional stories of the group of unusual people. I totally enjoyed reading the two books available. I can't say it was a literary masterpiece but I enjoyed it which I think is more important.
An exciting read about a young woman building both personal and corporate relationships. The young heroine still has issues with past activities and has with crew relationships. It is a compelling read.
I enjoyed this book and the previous one from cover to cover. I usually don’t give five stars on books even though I enjoyed them. This book was very good in my opinion and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
This was just as enjoyable as the firsr book. Gnizak is certainly a consistent author. There is much to consider in this book that keeps you on your toes from start to the very end. How will Annis and Co. over come this latest obstacle?? I can't wait to find out in the next book!
I’m really loving this series! It is exactly the fun, busy and creative sci-fi that keeps me engaged. The unexpected plot twists are well done and the suspense is exciting.
