The Christmas Quilt Bride books are clean, sweet historical romances with inspirational elements. Each book in the series is a stand-alone book by various authors. The story will be about Helen Basal, who we met in book 9 of this series—Amelia, and her meeting and falling in love with Gilbert ‘Gil’ Lewis. Gil is a biological brother to Helen who was adopted by the Basal family.
Winston Norris is a widower raising his young daughter. His wife died and his son died during childbirth. Winston is a talented carpenter, but it is hard to work jobs where he must take his daughter with him, especially in the bitter cold temperatures. Winston will be hired by Gil Lewis to do some repairs and maintenance on Helen Basal’s cottage. He will finally concede to allow Gilda to be in the house with Helen while he is working.
The story was interesting and I liked the characters. Winston has been widowed for two years now and in some ways is bitter that God would take Maggie and his son during childbirth. He knows he needs someone to help him raise Gilda, but is insistent it would be a marriage in name only. Helen enjoys watching Gilda and teaching her simple sewing stitches, and even cooking lessons. She also has dinner for the three of them when Winston comes from his jobs at night. He helps provide provisions for the meals. Unfortunately, busybodies take it upon themselves to start spreading vicious rumors of improper behavior of Winston and Helen.
The story is about faith and family. About trusting God, and understanding that God is in control even when things don’t happen the way you hoped. It is about finding peace, and also finding a second chance for the future. I liked how compassionate Helen is with taking care of Gilda, and not shutting out Winston. Sometimes love comes with heartache, but keeping your eyes on Jesus will pave the way.
The story is a clean tale with romance, and making changes for their future. It was a good story but is in serious need of proper editing. Words run together, words are doubled, or even missing.
I am so glad we finally get Helen's book, and we also get the bonus of catching up with Amelia and Gil from earlier in the series too, a lovely Christmas gift. Whilst heart wrenching at times Helen and Winston's journey is a sweet one, Gilda's innocent wishes and funny remarks stop anyone getting too lost in the past and offer up simple solutions to the matters of the heart that confuse Winston and Helen. A sweet story that blends families and offers hope and love to all. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I do enjoyed reading Winston and Helen’s story. The remarkable story of how love finds its way! Wonderful series. Heartfelt and inspiring story of the true spirit of Christmas giving. Returning characters and some new delightful characters.
