Violet Rose has always loved villains and often came up with alternate endings to the movies she watched growing up, where the bad guys get the girl.
Her stories push the limits of love, exploring passion in its rawest and most intense form. And her characters are unhinged, unapologetic and sometimes even irredeemable in the best way possible.
When she is not writing, you can find her cuddled up with her dog or enjoying delicious food and plotting new stories.
this book fucked with my head. because its so wrong in so many ways but i couldn’t help but root for the main characters? i don’t even know how to rate it? also not me being sad when it came to an end. i need therapy jesus, because if this happened in real life i’d be SCREAMING and RUNNING but in fiction i’m like ✨😏✨
i’m so conflicted. my brain hurts. 💀😂
UPDATE 2/10/24 i’ve come back to my review to give it a 4 ⭐️ i don’t condone the stuff in the book, but how much it’s rotted my brain since i read it. means it needs the 4 stars i’m giving it. 😂
I wanted to like this more, but for a variety of reasons, it was just an average read. Partially because nothing that I wanted to happen actually happened. For a dark romance, there's not much romance or even intimacy between the characters that I craved. Somehow, they never even have a conversation with each other. There's a little spice, but the FMC is the only one to ever receive and the only one to ever climax.
Aside from that, while the writing was easy to get through, it got repetitive several times to the point I had to resist skimming (I'm really not a skimmer unless circumstances are dire). And there was some mildly awkward phrasing, such as a lack of contractions (does not/will not/etc. instead of doesn't/won't).
The characters received a little bit of background and history, but their histories didn't seem to affect who they were today, which is a problem I see with lackluster character building - putting in a background but not giving it enough meaning to shape the character. I liked some of the little bits of their pasts - mostly the FMC's - that are explained, and the ways in which the characters are similar, but it's unbeknownst to them that they can actually relate to each other on things they went through as children because they never learn about those things from each other.
Overall, it's not a bad debut, but it could have used a bit of editing at least, and, preferably, also an expansion on the main characters and their relationship. That being said, I read this in a day and DID want to know what would happen next from chapter to chapter. I can see readers who enjoy the focus being on the FMC's pleasure to enjoy this more. Check trigger warnings before diving in, as there is some dubcon (at best) sometimes and some self-directed disgust by the FMC for enjoying/wanting it.
i picked this up for a quick read and it filled the void. i love me a stalker romance but this was mainly just a somno story. i loved the concept of the faceless “dream man” and how he only visits her at night. i just wished there was more to the story but i enjoyed it and will definitely recommend to my besties if they’re in the mood for it.
the smut wasn’t really there. it was mainly just him eating her out at night. the whole time i was lowkey begging them to get it on already 😭 when the mystery man plot finally picked up, it only lasted for a a chapter or two. he only had like two chapters in his pov and it was just repeated on what victoria already said. this definitely had a lot of potential but it kind of flopped for me. i think if it was longer and the character / stalker plot development was written more, it definitely would’ve been an easy favorite of mine !! but again i would definitely recommend for mood reading because i did enjoy what i read 🖤
Mr Dream Man comes around every night and feasts like she is the last meal. She stays steady believing that it's all a dream because he is gone by morning. Sometimes though, dreams can become a reality 😌
I found out about this book while scrolling on Instagram and it was an insta download for me. No second thought. And honestly I've never been happier about carelessly scroll in my life!
I wasn’t ready for the way this book took over me and my life from the first to the last page. What Jared does is wrong.. I know... but I've found myself saying "awwww" so many times.
Was it the most f*ed up book I read... NO! Was it super spicy... no. But the build up...omg. The ending... *screaming*.
It's wrong... YES! In real life would I say this is f*ed up... YES! Did I love everything single page of this book.... F* YEAH!!!
If this is her first work I can't wait to see what she has in store for us! Bravo 👏🏼!
⚠️In this book there are themes that some people might find triggering. Please check thats your case before reading the book.⚠️
For this being a debut novel, she absolutely killed it!!!!!!
Although i did feel as if the book was a tad slow throughout, that was all part of the mystery! I loved when we finally got the MMC’s POV. Because i loved every second and i ate that shit up. The FMC, I’m not gonna lie just her as a whole kinda annoyed me, but not enough where i wanted to stop reading at any point because you have her that it extremely descriptive, then you have the MMC that says “i touched her” that’s it. Nothing more than that lmao 😂
Before i knew it when it was JUST getting juicy and i was so excited to keep turning the page, it was the end and that i was sad about because i did want more. Which proved to me that Violet Rose has some amazing work ahead of her and i cannot wait to read it!!!
So, all in all, i do recommend this book and I absolutely cannot wait to see what this author is going to bring to the table.
This book is basically a beautiful, twisted descend into madness. The MMC is down from the start, and our FMC just free falls into his arms and follows him in his craziness!
While this book is called "He comes at night"... Lemme tell you that right from the start, it's our dear FMC that "comes" at night, and good for her!
It starts in a bang, that's for sure. Though I felt like it got a bit drawled out until we reached the 55-60% part where things abruptly get into motion cuz of the "reveal"?
I liked the FMC overall. Like sure, there were times where I wanted to shake her and make her get back to her senses (Not in the "nooo, you idiot!!" type, but more like the "No, please! don't give into the darkness! I beg you!" type instead, haha!). Speaking of that, I liked Violet Rose's depiction of the way our FMC kind of crumbled and embraced the toxicity of this all. Though at first she wasn't even aware that she was already down bad, the realization only came after!
Now, now, now, let's get to he who gives the darkness to this dark romance. Our dear MMC! You know, at first, since he's a stalker I was expecting things to be more on edge before so she realizes something is wrong. I even thought in surprise that he was quite tame and stoic for a stalker (I mean if you ignore the fact that...he stalks her and come *devour* her at night, y'know, small details). So yeah, I was like he's not... that bad... I WAS WRONG! He is OBSESSED throughout and you'll only realize it when getting to look through his mind! I apologize for ever doubting your stalking abilities, sir.
So yeah, I think that there could have been a bit more pacing and ajustement, but that's kind of tricky considering that it's a novella!
For me it was a pretty fun and quick read, I would have finished it in one sitting if I hadn't been busy with chores and dinner! So if you're in the mood for a nice, dark and nicely spiced read, this one is for you!
(Also, ironically, I'm reviewing this just after having finished this late at night because I absolutely wanted to see how the ending turns out. I do not thank the author for forcing me to do that /jk)
Well I didn’t see that coming 😜🤪😂😂😂 No pun intended but whatttt was that little gem
Debut Novel ?? Wow, Violet Rose, that my friend was amazing. The way I couldn’t put this book down till I finished the book is nobody’s business
Mr dream man. You are sooo sooo wrong but omg soo soo right. Obviously this is fictional so not real but holy hell I didn’t expect that. At all
The 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ scenes were just 🥵🥵🥵🔥🔥
I think this has been don’t brilliantly I really do. The way the MFC has been done is, so sooo good I loved turning each page to find out more and more about these dreams. Her life and the story
Then to get the MMC pov wowww, to hear from his side, well that just nailed it for me. Technically all kinds of wrong. But in a fictional way I loved it, I loved it all.
I’m really, really looking forward to seeing what’s next from this Author because she deserves all the stars and more
I’m being mindful of what I share as I personally hate spoilers… check the triggers but most definitely go check out this book.
When dreams blur into reality, she becomes his obsession—and he, her darkest desire.
He Comes At Night Violet Rose
🖤 Dark Romance 🥀 Touch her and die 🖤 Short story / Novella 🥀 Stalker Romance 🖤 Spicy 🥀 Obsession
The Shadow Lover shows up every night, devouring her like she’s the most exquisite last meal. By morning, he’s gone, leaving her to convince herself it’s just a dream. But sometimes, dreams have a funny way of crashing into reality.
From the moment I cracked open this book, it owned me—mind, heart, soul. Every part of me screamed that what I was reading was so wrong, but did that stop me? Nope. I was hooked, cheering for these twisted, fascinating characters to make it, against all odds.
And just when things got seriously juicy and I was turning pages like my life depended on it—bam! It was over. And I was left staring at the last page, desperate for more. If this is the kind of wild, addictive storytelling Violet Rose brings to the table, then sign me up for everything she writes. I’m already counting down until her next book drops!
Obsession. It is dangerous and consuming. There’s a very thin line that identifies the two, sometimes misinterpreted.
This book is a dark romance. It involves stalking, with Stockholm syndrome thrown in the mix.
Favorite Quote: 🥀 “…I can’t help but wonder which one of us is real—the woman who lives in the daylight, or the one who comes alive in the dark.” -Victoria
Victoria is tired of the games that dating involves. One night, she dreams about a man and begins to crave this person. She begins to question her own reality and, in a way, becomes obsessed.
The toxic relationship between Jared and Victoria had me questioning my moral compass.
This story was well written, invoking an emotional response from me. It is a quick read. It even has a Penn Badgley (from the show “You”) feel to it. I’d be open to reading more about Jared and other relationships he has had. I can totally see this as a series.
I came across a post by this author about her book on #Threads. I’m all about indie author support!
This novella is dark, intriguing, thrilling and it’s hot! It was an Instagram recommendation that I’m very happy about following up on. Once I started reading it, I didn’t put it back down until the end. My rational mind kept telling me that what I was reading is so wrong and yet I totally enjoyed the ride and even found myself rooting for our main characters to end up together.
I loved that I also got his POV towards the end of the novella. That glimpse of what is happening in his mind was so interesting, but it was also the moment I thought to myself - Ok, this is a proper obsession!
Theoretically, this story could have played out totally different. More normal I guess, if either of them had approached the other one more openly but I guess where’s the fun and thrill in normal, right? Or maybe I do need therapy?
But girl, that ending had me craving more!
All in all, this was fantastic work for a debut novel and it’s undeniable that Violet Rose has talent and I’m looking forward to reading more from her in future.
It's more than a 3 stars read for me, but I don't want to give it 4.
This is novella of about 100 pages. I have to say I went into this with absolutely no clue what genre or trope it had. Sometimes, it's the right decision because then it gives me the complete experience without any thoughts or expectations from my side. At first, I thought this could be stalker or paranormal situation, whether it will become a thriller or romance later on, again I had no clue. Without giving away any spoilers, I wish it was a bit darker than this. I didn't feel the suspense enough. It had good potential though. Yet, I had fun reading this. I definitely recommend this to someone who is looking to dip their toes in something dark but not looking for something too dark or traumatic. I would like to read more from this author.
He Comes At Night was giving thriller /mystery vibes.. for the first half I truly thought maybe it is all in her head. Maybe she has a mental disorder and is imagining it all..
However by the second half when she confirms that Jared is her stalker, it immediately gave YOU vibes!
Overall I think it could have been stretched out more, maybe go into more of her life and the plot (we love smut and plot) and this would have been fantastic to end at chapter 10. Chapter 11 felt like a nice bow on top to finish it off but it very well could have turned into book 2.
As far as debut novellas go, this was still a 5/5 🖤
102 pages of: vivid dreams, stalking, possessively pinned to the bed, crushing on the IT guy, jealousy & obsession, a little bit of somno, realisation, acceptance and “Mine”
I devoured this little gem of a stalker romance! It’s short & oh so steamy!! I love how Victoria’s initial excitement over her lucid dreaming develops into her own obsession with the masked man who can’t seem to get enough of her. It’s mainly single POV but we do get one chapter where her dark & devilish dream guy is revealed. I could have happily continued reading their story but I think it ended on just the right note! Read it & you’ll see what I mean.
Overall a fab debut from Violet Rose and it’s definitely made me curious for her future works.
This is a debut novella and unfortunately it shows. There is so much potential and the blurb pulled me in, that’s why I added it to my library. Personally I didn’t love the writing style, it was very repetitive with little forward motion. The same thought continued in different words sometimes for four pages but we were just reading in circles and the story didn’t progress. Jared’s pov wasn’t terrible. Because of the shortness of the book his part was very direct and to the point. Idk, I didn’t love this and wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but would try something else by this author.
Victoria has lucid dreams. Every night she dreams of a man coming into her room at pleasuring her by eating her out. He never takes pleasure for himself, never speaks and once she comes, he is gone.
One night she begs him to speak, so he tells her “mine”. The next day at work she hears his voice. It belongs to Jared, a man she has a little crush on. So the next night he comes to her, she scratches his hand. At work the next day, she sees the scratch.
She quits her job, moves away. He tracks her down.
A quick debut novella. It drew me in from the start, I couldn’t help thinking how lucky is she (in the book world that is lol), her fighting to get where she is, to having a stalker who takes care for her 😛 As we all know good things come to an end, she finds out through her own process who her s3xy stalker is and her own feelings scare her into doing something she regrets.
Well, written and looking forward to reading more from this author 😊
I really enjoyed this stalker romance! It kept me on my toes for most of the book. It was nice to see a regular reaction to having a stalker but love that it wasn’t all that normal either!!
The writing was good, there were some repetitive phases used but as a debut novella I think it was very well done! I cannot wait to see what this author comes up with next!
It was a very… wattpad novel. I feel there is a good plot. I enjoyed it. But I feel as if it’s a first draft. It’s a bit messy with how things are explained, and you start the book unsure of what is going on, and you only start knowing what is going on on chapter 3 or 4 (around 15-20% of the book in a 100 page book… It was a bit anticlimactic. But I see the creativity, and the spicy scenes are good. I’m willing to give the author a chance
debut novella from this author I found on Threads. Definitely think about giving this one a try if you enjoy st4lk3rs and a bit of somno. Spice in the first chapter ish, so it's a fast burn, and has spice. It's a little over 100 pages, so it was a quick read. Since it's the debut novella, I will be interested to see future titles from Violet Rose!
I lovedddd this book. A girl with dreams that aren’t just dreams? Sign me up. I love how there was a realistic mental reaction to when she discovers who Jared is, I’m glad she freaked because who wouldn’t. I’m dying for a second book that continues where book 1 ends. I want to read their conversation so bad. This book is gonna haunt me without knowing where they go from here. 🤣🫶🏻
Wow, this is the first book in awhile to have me on the edge of my seat waiting! I loved this book but I beg, please make a part 2 lol!!! I would definitely love to see more from Victoria and Jared. This was exactly what I needed, so thank you! The spice was spicing too❤️🔥
Soo good- you gotta read this book. I don’t know what to say except… READ IT! The more you read this book, the better it gets. Then the last couple chapters appear and you’re like… wait what? lol
He comes at night is a stalker romance. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I need more. I need more story. Do they have a HEA.? Do they move in together? Angst is heavy in the short read. MORE is all I can say.
He Comes at Night was fantastic!!! I had two guesses for which way this could go and was definitely leaning towards how it went!! I was obsessed! The spice was hawt hawt hawt. A little somno is always 🔥🔥🔥 *chefs kiss*
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It started good and then just went somewhere.. else. The whole time I waited for something that just never came. Ending was disappointing. I ended up skimming through a lot of the repetitive stuff. Honestly I wouldn’t recommend this book as it wasn’t dark romance to me.
The writing style was really weird. It kept changing from past and present tense unexpectedly. Also, some of the sentences were kind of choppy. However, it was a good quick read. I enjoyed it.
