Where Are the Everglades?

Interesting history

*3 stars because while there’s some interesting information within this book, there’s also an underlying secular influence and discussion of violence that I think would be inappropriate for younger readers. Where Are the Everglades would have been significantly better if the author had a creationist perspective and was a Christian. The focus should have been shifted, and the beauty of this part of the world could have been emphasized more too. There was no need to falsely mention “millions of years” or climate change. Thankfully, there did not seem to be inherent bias in the timelines.

This book give a brief and detailed history of the Everglades National Park. The book also discusses the ecology and unique characteristics of the Park. It is educational and fascinating for readers to be introduced to this unusual ecosystem.

A look at the history and various twists and turns the Everglades area has experienced, the establishment of the national park, the importance of the ecology of the area, and ecological challenges it has and does face.
There's quite a bit of Florida history told succinctly in this short book, but it did seem to do a good job of hitting the highlights and important turning points. It also did a good job of outlining some of the biggest ecological challenges past and present, and those who campaigned for the health of the area. A good read for those studying Florida's history, getting ready for a trip to the Everglades, or studying ecosystems.

Ethnic diversity: Americans, Spanish, Native peoples, and Haitian and Cuban immigrants are all mentioned.

I always enjoy the books in this series.

This was an interesting quick, short history of the everglades. It encourages me to seek out for more information. The whole text is black and white, like a newspaper ; would have liked colored pictures. It was a quick read.
