Book #5 of the Contamination series - 'Survival' - picks up with the continuing story of Noah Chambers, and one of the survivors we first met at the beginning of the series. Last we heard from him he had just left his group back at the salvage yard to venture out solo on a very determined quest of getting home to his family in Portland Oregon. He quickly begins to regret his decision when he comes up against the humans (a.k.a.white coats and/or agents) who want to exterminate all human life. Not to mention the many, many zombies he also has to fend off along the way. Luckily, he meets another survivor named Caddy Stevens (a much appreciated/needed comrade-in-arms) who ends up joining forces with him on the perilous journey towards Portland... Narrator Troy Duran continues to be fantastic. Up next: 'Sanctuary' (Contamination, #6)
Out of all the characters Noah was one I wasn't keen on from the first 4 books. After reading this, I realise he is the one I am most like. Not strong, doubting but always trying to do the right thing. The tension again gets cranked up and you can feel and see the empty neighbourhoods. Every turn could mean cerain death. Thank you T.W. Piperbrook another brilliant read.
This book is about Noah and his adventures since he left Dan, Quinn, Delta, and Sam at the junkyard to try and make his way to his family in Portland Oregon. Along the way he runs into trouble and also learns that not every survivor is helpful. In fact, some appear to have gone crazy and would rather kill someone than help them.
Along the way, Noah is helped to escape from 4 of the maniacs intent on doing him harm by a girl named Caddy. Caddy lives in a small town and won't leave because she is taking care of her mom who had Alzheimer's Disease. Dan helps her but then the situation gets dire and they figure it is time to leave. Unfortunately, the "maniacs" who were trying to kill Noah have followed him and are bent on revenge.
Eventually, they make it out of the town but Noah is shot pretty badly. They hear a voice on the radio finally telling people to come to a place where the U.S. National Guard has a safe place set up. That's where they decide to go. Noah is operated on and when he wakes up not only is Caddy with him but so are Delta and Sam! :)
This book was just as good as book 4 and I was glad to see 3 or the original companions/survivors reunite. Now I have to read book 6 and then book 7. :)
I finished this book (audiobook) in a day, I couldn’t stop until I got to the end!
Yet another rollercoaster of intense fear and Relef all at once! But the Relef is never for long! before you know it your back on that rollercoaster falling down then up then back down again! The new characters that came in this book are relatable so you feel like your going though it with them, whether it be sad, scary, relef, joy, loss you feel it all right to the end! I have already started the next book (audiobook) 🧟♀️ 🧟♂️
The thing that I really like about this series is it introduced characters and then gave those characters their own story. You don't spend one book jumping between locations trying to track what's happening in three different areas. It's refreshing, and I really like it.
This story follows Noah after he left the group at the junk yard and headed towards Portland to see his family. He runs into everything you'd expect: creatures, assholes, friendly faces, danger, and terrifying nerves for someone who seems to be a pacifist.
A rough time has plagued Noah since leaving the salvage yard in Arizona to return to Portland Oregon to find his family. He finds unexpected help in a mother and daughter, the only two survivors in a small town where everybody became a infected blood and flesh craving monster. Noah just wanted to find his family, hopefully alive and uninfected. Great reading with such tension and suspension building with every page! Happy moments included!
Great followup on the first 4 books. I found myself unable to put the book down. Poor Noah couldn't seem to get away from the criminals that were determined to keep the town for themselves. I would definitely recommend this series to friend's. Even if you aren't a big fan of zombies, the suspense of the story keeps you interested. I am now starting book 6 of the series.
I have the omnibus edition of this series but just wanted to say that this installment is non-stop action, tension and suspense, this time willing Noah to succeed. Caddy is another good character.
So, between creatures, the agents and other villains, it makes for a great read.
I'm sorry it's finished. I read it too quick. Boardwalk the characters made it out alive. Shame not to hear how Dan and Quinn ended up. Goods story. I've now read all tw piper Brook books..
This series has everything you want to read about, and this is coming from someone not interested in zombie-type stories. Great stories and characters...give them a try. You won't be disappointed.
If you like zombie apocalypse then this series won’t disappoint. Can’t wait to read the next one. I chose this rating because I like this genre of reading. I was not bored at at all.
Minute by minute I couldn’t put the series down as I read from one disaster to the other. But the books prove that the human spirit is meant to overcome all odds.
The way you kept the suspense going throughout this book. Keeping the survivors alive up to this point is great. I will continue to read the next books in this series.
This book was filled with endless twists and turns. Just when you thought it was safe, whammo! It’s not!! Enjoyed it to the very end…kept me on the edge of my seat.
Noah returns from prior books continuing his travels back to Portland. Running afoul of escaped prisoners on their way to the “big house” his travels are cut short once again. He is rescued by and makes friends with Caddy a fellow survivor. Noah hears of a safe haven checkpoint where the military provides food, lodging, and safety. The story proceeds to chronicle Noah and Caddy’s harrowing adventures as they travel together. Good story, interesting and likable characters. I’m looking forward to book six, Sanctuary.
Ok so this was the last book and I def was upset when I read the last sentence. I was upset because the series was over and there were no more books to read. This was absolutly one of the most unusual takes on zombies I have ever read. Def watch this author. Looking forward to see more. I would recommend to anyone to read this series.
I've loved this whole series but this book was kinda hard to read. I kept getting bored. It didn't have the same flow of action in it like the previous books. It was good but not great. I'll finishes the series though, hopefully the next book will hold my attention better.
The final book (?) wraps up the story of Noah who left the group earlier. This is another great episode and perhaps the best of the 5 short stories. Even better it wraps up the story left hanging in book 3.
Character's you know from the previous books, and some new friends just as strong story line and emotional connection to their struggle, highly recommend this book to continue a great overall series.
What a great read, I went throughout 0 - 5 in just 10 or so days, lots of the reading was while sitting on the throne lol! I am now going to start #6, I highly recommend this series from kids (10 on up) to old carts like me!
With the short length of these books, I was not going to continue the series but after reading another book in between I kept thinking about all the characters and I had to continue the story.
