When Josephine "Josie" Fletcher meets a handsome cowboy in the bar, there is immediately a mutual attraction, but it is not a chance meeting. She has been set up by her roommate, Gypsy. She soon finds out that Richard Schreck is not a cowboy, but a respected lawyer, with a penchant for black women. Their relationship is electric, and they both have ravenous sexual appetites. However, a well-known woman from his past, who had been genitally mutilated as a child, hires him in a case against her mother. When news of her mutilation is leaked, the press camp out around her home. He tells Josie the bare bones of the case, but not the identity of his client. Afraid for her safety, he moves his client into his home, which makes Josie unhappy. With no contact between them, Josie is convinced he has forgotten about her, until he once again finds himself on her doorstep with promises of fidelity.
I have always loved writing. I started out with short stories and then moved onto novels. Not a single day goes by that I don’t do some form of writing. I am an avid reader, and when time allows, I try to read at least two books per month, thanks to the convenience of the E Reader, which makes it easy to shop the bookstores from the comfort of one’s home. In addition to my love of books, is my love of travel, cooking and gardening.
A quick and smooth read. Possessing Josephine is an interracial romance that gets a quick start. Right away I get the sense that Josephine, a black woman who is seemingly attractive, is a little insecure as she prepares to go out. Her roommate Gypsy declines to go with her and Josephine seems a little glad about that. So, she goes to a bar where she meets the hero, Richard who’s dressed like a cowboy and appears to ignore her at first.
However, the two hit it off and Josephine invites Richard home with her for a night of wild sex. The sensuality in the story is quite arousing and the romance itself is sort of a whirlwind ride that seems to hit a snag as Richard’s ex Willow comes into play. Willow is a black woman whom Richard is defending, and he isn’t as sensitive to Josi’s needs as he should be which only contributes to Josi’s insecurities. However, a happily ever after is in the cards for the couple.
I enjoyed Possessing Josephine for its elements of sensuality and humor as well as the warmth between Josi and Richard. I also loved the friendship of Josi and Gypsy. Gypsy’s parents brought in the subtle elements of racial conflict, but Gypsy remained true to her friendship with Josi in spite of it. The love between the friends strengthened the story.
Overall I’d give this story 4 stars because this story lives up to its bill as a romance and Josi in spite of her insecurities seems to be a strong woman who’s looking for love but not desperate to have a man complete her.
Interracial romance is not a typical romance that I read. Not because I am racist but I just never really came across one that spoke to me. Silke Ming did a pretty good job with Possessing Josephine. I like that we get a quick start to the story and that it had a pretty good pace. The plot was ingenious to me. It reeled it me in and had me curious and pretty anxious about reading it. The characters are well thought out. There is plenty of action, sizzling sex, and some interesting scenes. Its a pretty quick read, but you can definitely tell there will be another part to the story which I liked. I am definitely curious to see how things will turn out in the next book.
Possessing Josephine gets a THREE AND A HALF STARS! Its a quick read that is sweet, sexy, and full of action! I am looking forward to the next one to see what happens next.
