There has never been a more exciting or challenging time for aspiring and established authors. Amazon is now selling more digital books than paperbacks. The digibook market is huge and growing exponentially by the day. Self publishing platforms like Amazon Direct Publishing and Smash Words have enabled emerging authors to achieve staggering success almost overnight. Amanda Hocking anyone?
Thousands of new books are published on Amazon every month. Aspiring authors no longer have to wait in hope and trepidation for the almost inevitable rejection slip from the publisher to land with a sickening thud on the door mat. Getting published is the easy part. The problem for authors is no longer about getting published but getting noticed. How does an author stand out from the ever increasing crowd?
“If you write it they will come.” You think! To be a successful independent author you have to promote your book yourself. No one else is going to do it for you with the same passion and diligence. The alternative is to watch your hard work buried under a digital landslide of new publications. This is where many potentially successful authors shy away. After all, writers just want to write not get immersed in List Building, Traffic Generation, SEO, Social Media Marketing and all the rest of the complex paraphernalia of internet marketing.

By harnessing the massive power and potential of the latest kid on the social network block, Google+, you can begin to immediately find and create a fan base of thousands within a matter of weeks. Imagine if you had gotten in early and built a presence on Facebook while it was just another fledgling .com website. Don’t make the same mistake with Google+. Now you don’t have to stand out from the crowd, you can create your own and stand in the middle of it.
I am a retired head teacher who now indulges his passion for writing full time. My blog http://kindleauthors.blogspot.com aims to support and showcase the talents of Indie authors. If you want to be featured please let me know. Unfortunately I never undertake reviews as I am too busy writing! A free copy of Google+ eXplosion is available from my blog and was written to help new and aspiring Indie authors get to grips with promoting their books.
I am currently engaged on writing a paranormal adventure for children of all ages entitled BILLY: Family Secrets. Another joint venture that is absorbing much of my time is the creation of a magazine for Indie authors who are Welsh, live in Wales, have Welsh connections or whose work is somehow related to Wales.
My last book was an adaptation of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’ entitled ‘A Christmas Carol Revisited’. As the story is set in Manhattan I was delighted to learn that the Entertainment Committee of the City Bar Association of New York are planning a staged reading in the City Bar Association Building Manhattan on the 19th December.
Again, if you want a mention on my blog please let me know.
