She’s reeling from what should have been heartbreak and he’s barely hanging on. Two people from the same city with different circumstances collide. Less of a collision—more of her crashing and burning while he’s there to force his way in like a fixer.
Cova wasn’t looking for anything, not a man nor a friend. You know what they say though… what you’re not looking for, you’ll surely find. As she sat in a lounge—a few glasses in,reeling from an eventful night—he pops in. At first glance she knows who he is, and that she should stay away from him, but can she?
The world can’t get any worse for Khal. He’s a man with nothing to lose who doesn’t fear death. He embraces it, knowing everyone has a time, wondering when his will come. Losing someone so precious so soon has left him with an inability to care for anyone outside of his blood… Until he lays eyes on her. Something about the pie-faced beauty draws him in like a fish on the line. The only problem is? He’s her brother’s opp.
Will this so-called beef with Cova’s brother stop what could be between them? Or could messy hood connections be the very thing that binds them together?
Cova!!!!! Not you falling in love with the opp🤭😏!!
Cava is the baby sister of Zay and Zoe. She doesn’t know why her brothers are beefing with Khal but the beef is the equivalent of an entire cow being slaughtered and if they say keep your distance then it’s 🗣️keep your distance. They’ve protected her her entire life and have never steered her wrong so going against them is not an option.
After a messy break up, Cova finds herself drowning her sorrows deep in a glass of that drank and the location of choice just so happens to be owned by Khal. He knows exactly who she is but as far as he’s concerned the beef is one sided and he’s living his life unbothered.
The chemistry is almost instant between Khal and Cova and the spark is worth exploring! Like the age old saying goes “if loving you is wrong, I don’t wanna be right”!
This was a cute read. Kennedy always gets me with the chemistry between her characters. Khal came with that pressure and was giving it all gas no brakes. I loved that these two lived life on their terms, their way. The story was decent but there was no wow factor or anything that took it over the top. The plot was meh and the drama was predictable.
It was a good read to pass the time but nothing groundbreaking. There are other stories by Kennedy that I’ve enjoyed way more. I’m guessing based off the ending we will see more from this crew. It wasn’t a cliffhanger but more so an open ended ending. I guess we shall wait and see what next.
This was a great beginning!!!! This is the second book I've read that was written by you. Let me get on the prowl through your work. I wonder what other jewels are out there. I'm ready for book two to those five book series 😉. Y'all just read the damn book.
(3.5) I really enjoyed Khal & Cova as a couple. I feel like their relationship, while fast moving, just felt seamless and easy. Once he expressed interest, he didn’t take any of her excuses about why they couldn’t be together. He was no nonsense with others but putty when it came to her. Overall I loved the way they loved each other & how they were each pretty much obsessed lol. Cova essentially gave him a reason to live & I loved that for him. Also,I think most MMCs should take a page from Khal’s book when it comes to handling exes. He was NOT here for that lady at all & stayed giving her his ass to kiss (rightfully so).
Where it kind of fell flat for me was the whole him being an opp to her brother storyline. It felt like there was a missed opportunity for some serious tension building between Khal & Zay. Also his ex, after a while it felt like it was dragging. I also feel like there were some unanswered questions for me, so it made the story Feel a little incomplete.
Find out your boyfriend was cheating. You meet a man in a lounge right after. Said man is someone your brother has beef with but said man also intrigues tf outta you. You guys end up sharing a meal together and you enjoy it. You realize you could like him so you kinda run. Except he won’t let you.
Khal decided Cova was gonna be his by any means necessary. He asked her at one point if she missed him and before she could answer he said he would give her a reason to. Khal then proceeded to do just that. This was a good read and I enjoyed seeing how Khal and Cova were established and connected to each other the way they were.
Khal the boss of all things is grieving and dealing with a trash baby mother. My dope tattoo artist Cova just walked out a bad relationship and walked in a bar and catches the eye of someone who is deemed off limits. Or is he truly off limits?
Khal don’t care what the beef is he’s going after what he wants! And Cova is who he wants. I’m yearning for more from this couple when the book ended. I love how protective Khal was with Cova and also is brother.
Overall it was a really good read. Khal was not playing when it came to his child and his baby mother. I actually appreciated how direct and unapologetic he was. He made it clear that her actions led to their daughter’s death. Point blank, period. She was a mess, drunk, sloppy, and reckless and the story didn’t try to soften that reality. I also loved seeing a strong FMC like Cova stand on business, especially when it came to dealing with an ex. She knew exactly who she was and didn’t fold, even when emotions were involved. Her overthinking felt real too. It wasn’t annoying, just very human. The storyline of her getting involved with Khal because he was her brother’s opp started off interesting, but I do think it kind of fell flat once all the details came out. It didn’t have the same tension I expected it to carry through. That said, their love? Refreshing. It moved a little fast, but they’re grown, and it felt like real, everyday love, not the overly dramatic, fantasy-type romance. It was mature, honest, and grounded, which made it hit differently. I’m definitely interested in what’s next in this universe, especially with Cova’s brothers because their situations are messy. And Prince? He’s going to be a problem in the best way when he falls in love. I can already tell. Overall, a solid read. Grown folks love, real emotions, and just enough drama to keep it interesting.
They are couple goals!!! I'm sad to see them go and definitely didn't want the book to end. I want to see Khal as a dad, and Cova as a mother. Also at what point does Somaya get locked up for child endangerment?! I'm lowkey shipping Princeton and Kaydence, I think they would be so cute together. I need to know what is Princeton into that he is owed those kind of favors 🤔. I need Zay and Zoe to choose better for themselves, like at what point do you start wanting better for yourself? I really hope George recovers he was so cool, I'm interested in seeing Princeton take over his duties though. I also hope Khal can now focus on his legal dealings and his family because Cova doesn't seem like the type to continue to take the backseat to the streets especially in her condition. Would definitely recommend anything by Kennedy B., she's becoming my favor author!
It's actually missing quite a bit but I don't feel like going through all of it. Okay, if Somaya killed their child driving drunk, how is it she never went to jail? I'm quite sure if she was as much of a drunk as the story says she's had a few DUI's before then, and hit a van full of kids going to soccer practice, not sure if that was the same or a different situation. Khal said it was just him, his pops, grand pops and his brother, but we never heard from or about them. Co brothers were trifling and idiotic, having a baby by someone then dating her first cousin, more should have been said about that, Zay and Somaya period should have been talked about more since they were thrown into the story. It was a lot of things that was brought up but simply left hanging, did Somaya die, where are the brothers other kids, how did the shakedown police die, it's a lot of unanswered questions. The end did say for now, I guess we will have to see how it goes.
I was really excited to read this book. I mean—falling for your brother’s OPP? Who wouldn’t be intrigued. Unfortunately, this book flopped for me. I really liked cova and khal as characters but as a couple—-the chemistry felt forced and it really didn’t show on page. Their timeline felt rushed and that didn’t help the development of the relationship either. Also—the brother being an opp is a stretch. Like nothing really came out of that situation and it was disappointing. Not tension-not angst-not drama- just one sided beef that didn’t go anywhere. This book is boring and it lacked substance. It’s almost like the author had a concept of a plan but failed to execute. So many moving parts of the story but nothing connected.
Cova had herself over in a bar she wasn't supposed to step foot in. Khal first notice that she was beautiful and she was drowning her sorrows. Khal wanted to get know her without all the noise from the bar. Cova knew she hanging out with the opps per her brother. She didn't know Zay had beef with Khal because of Khal drunk baby mama Somaya, I thought she was trying to get Khal back but then Zay thought that was his baby. Zay had a gambling problem. I thought Khal was going to knock off ole boys head. Zoe and situationship is toxic and messy. Princeton came threw.with hit man to take care of Khal's problem. Cova went to get her i.u.d put back in and she was surprised that she was pregnant. Then she had to tell Khal who was over protected all ready.
Kennedy B has become a favorite of mine. Like other books I’ve enjoyed from her in the past, this was so much more. I love Covia and Khal, it was a very mature romance!
I’m glad we didn’t spend too much time on the drama between she and her brother. For this to only have been 200 pages or more, it was a full story. Again, I definitely want more. But that’s because I loved to see the brothers, Princeton, included have their own story.
While I laughed aloud several times reading this, I also felt anger and sadness with the Somaya situation.
I actually had to come back and read this book after I read Interference. I knew there was a story about Cova and Khal based on the references in that book and I’m glad I did. I actually loved this one versus just liking that one. I love when main male characters know what they want and are mature about going to get it. That was Khals character through and through. Even Covas character was like able from the start. There were plenty of characters that I’d love to read more about and see them mature in their books but we’ll see if they get a story too. In the meantime this one is a favorite of mine fr9m this author.
This was a good book. Not alot of drama. I mean there was drama but not over the top never ending drama. Cova and Khal were such a sweet couple. Khal saw Cova several times out but finally approached her while she was at a bar drinking because she found her boyfriend in bed with someone. From there he was locked in. Both had exes that didn't want to move on. Khal was in the streets which came with some drama. I enjoyed this one. Plot, storyline, sex scenes, and character development was on point
I like Khal and Cova story bc it started out with him being an opp of her brother and she didn’t want to be disloyal by continuing to have conversations with Khal. Khal just kept popping up on Cova bc he couldn’t get her out of his mind. She was falling for him too but was worried about being disloyal. As the book went on the beef was one sided and it was all bc of a woman. Go figures 🙄
Cova, a tattoo artist who had her own shop.. her two brothers were somewhat in the streets Zay and Zoe.. Cova met Khal, who was an opp to Zay, but she couldn’t deny the attraction and connection she felt.. sneaking, she entertained a relationship with Khal and both fell hard for each other.. Zay was mad when he initially found out, but a little afterwards he realized his sister was happy and let the one-sided beef go. The story was okay
I enjoyed the love story of Cova and Khal. There was a nice flow to this story with not a lot of craziness. I did like a lot the sibling bonds that they each had with their family members. The narration was good ( enjoyed the male voice over the female voice) but she is new to me. Definitely a recommended book. Wish we could have had a peep into the birth of Cova & Khal’s baby but I guess it’s the makings for a book 2 :).
This was my first read by this Author and won't be my last. Coya meets Khal after a breakup and her life is turned sideways. I enjoyed the characters development the entire story. The intensity of the friction between Zay and Khal which was actually just a misunderstanding was ridiculous honestly. This was a good story headed to the next story.
I felt like something was missing. Like the book wasn’t complete… like something was supposed to happened to his brother. What happened between her brother and his girl after the accident. Did she actually end up losing him and becoming a single mother…. I needed more. Overall it was great read. She fell in love with the ops lol.
This book was cool. The love story between the two characters was cute but also nothing special at the same time. I also wish there was an epilogue or something that wrapped up certain things fully. The couple did stay together & there was no third act breakup but there were other things that I wanted more information and/or conclusion about.
I love the way Khal was everything Cova needed and she was everything he needed. Zay set himself up. How you plan to plant a seed in a drunk? Zoe has an interesting love life!
Very good, but was that the end?! Cova and Khal both deserved a happy ending, especially after dealing with very toxic situations with their exes. Again, the end… like what’s up with that?!
I really like Khal. He knew he wanted Co and went after her despite her stupid brother! Her brother’s issue with Khal was crazy because over a drunk? 🤔 Anyway, I’m glad Khal and Co get their happy ending
Ms Kennedy B, thank you for that!! I love how Cova spoke her mind and communicated with her people. I truly enjoyed Khal and feel I need Princeton story, now I’m about to make way through your catalog!!
This was my first read by this author and I must say I really enjoyed it. I was expecting an epilogue but hey. Besides the typos I can really say this is a great book. Can’t wait to read more
Khal & Cova!! Their first interaction caught me! Kennedy B did a great job pulling the reader into their world. I liked the side characters. This is a good read.
