If you’re in the mood for a steamy ride with some biker grit, "Riding the Ex-Military Biker" by Tyla Walker may be your next guilty pleasure. Tyla Walker has written over 30 books that I’ve devoured (yep, I’m a fan), so when I picked up this one, I was ready for a wild ride. And while it wasn’t my absolute favorite from her, it still delivered in some ways, just not all.
First off, let’s talk about Jax and Zuri. They had instant chemistry—you know, the kind that makes you want to grab a fan. But I wish we got a little more character depth before things heated up between them. I mean, the girl didn’t even know his number, yet here they are... you know... going full throttle without even a helmet! (Come on, Zuri!) It just felt a bit rushed, and I wanted more of a build-up before the sparks flew, which would have made their intense connection feel even more earned.
Now, being the self-declared “Queen of Spice” (yes, I love all the fiery, descriptive, toe-curling scenes), I felt the love scenes in this book were a bit too fast-paced for my liking. There was potential for those moments to really shine and show how deeply Zuri and Jax connected, but they didn’t quite sizzle like I was hoping. That said, the chemistry is definitely there, and if you like your romance on the edgier side, you’ll appreciate their dynamic.
As for the biker club aspect—I’ll admit, this was my first foray into the biker romance world, and I was a bit lost in the beginning. Some of the lingo and interactions could’ve used a bit more explanation early on to fully immerse newbies like me in their world. Still, the Iron Wolves are an intriguing bunch, and Jax’s rugged charm will keep you hooked.
The plot did feel a little predictable, and at times I found myself speeding through some of the slower parts, but I appreciated how Walker always manages to sprinkle in just enough tension and grit to keep you invested. It wasn’t the most memorable of her books for me, but it’s still a solid 3.5 stars with a spice level that also lands at a solid 3.5.
If you’re looking for a quick, steamy read with a rough-around-the-edges alpha hero, *Riding the Ex-Military Biker* might just be the fix you need. Just maybe keep the scrubs handy, because Zuri’s going to need more than a few stitches after getting tangled up in Jax’s dangerous world!

Where to start. Unfortunately, this is just bad. It’s an editorial mess. There are plot inconsistencies, we’re told one thing then the next paragraph, it’s as if what we just read never happened and were going down around road, amateurish dialogue and episodes of poor research.
The concept is good. The execution is very poor. The author needs to realise that as readers we like to create images in our heads. We need to ‘see’ and believe in the characters and what they’re doing. So the author needs to pay attention to the little stuff. For example, if they’re in the kitchen then go to the living room, we need to be told about that movement. We can’t just read about being in the kitchen and then the next thing they’re curled up on the sofa.
It’s like the whole thing is in the author’s head, in her head is the sequence of events - a, b, c, d, e. But what she writes down is a, c, d. It seems rushed.
Sometimes a simple, ‘ the next day….’ at the start of a paragraph makes such a difference.
It’s like this book was written by two people who simply did not communicate with each other or even read what was written before.
I’m not sure if the author had an editor, if not she seriously needs to get one. If she did have one, I’m very sorry but she needs to change them as they have done her no favours.
I'm so used to reading books from this author who has slow and steady development of relationships. The intimacy that the characters have a more steamy than the usual in this book. Jax is the prez of an MC. So therefore there's bound to be conflict with the community that he has emerged himself in. Zuri is the nurse who helped pass him out when you came into the ER. So the instant connection with all that was going on it seemed a little intense! Some passages were read twice. But from there everything was action packed on different levels and Jax, willing to protect his woman! The problem is is she willing to continue with this dangerous environment to maintain the relationship? Pretty good read.

Complicated Love! Riding the Ex-Military Biker has much more to its storyline than the title might lead you to believe. Jax, the ex-military Biker who is also president of the Iron Wolves MC, and Zuri, his hot nurse, know how to complicate a simple love story. Once they get past all their self-doubting and insecurities, not to mention a bit of judgementalism, they find pure and simple love. In between, there is a lot of drama, hot, steamy romance, MC action, and revelations that make you swoon.
The book is an entertaining, easy read.

This book had a lot discrepancies in it. Like club members names getting mixed up and places of time not adding up. The story seemed rushed and incomplete. It was never said how the Vipers MC kidnapped Zuri. Did they take her out the bed beside him or did catch her on her way to work? I read plenty of MC stories and this was by far the worst I've read. I know from other books that prospects are always stationed outside the club house and alert for potential danger. I just hope if they're making this a MC series, that they read other stories or do some research. It baffled me as to why Jax or his members did carry a gun. All MC clubs have guns.
Great plot with potential it just fell short. Plot holes, contradictions throughout the book, and sentence structure were all areas of opportunity.
Very disappointed that this is suppose to be a BWWM romance when the only trait description we have of the fmc is that she has brown eyes… Oh! And straight hair! There’s an entire shower scene and afterwards she just crawls into bed. Doesn’t sound like a BW to me.
She was kidnapped but how? She was in bed but with no evidence of forced entry, no mention of how she was relocated.
Also the MMC runs a MC but lives in a 1 bedroom apartment. Apartment not condo. With a bike and multiple vehicles?
I liked the story. It was pretty simple but sweet. I felt liked it was a tad bit rushed, their relationship could’ve had a bit more building. I liked the way their personalities meshed together and Zuri’s interactions with the MC club.
The story does need to be edited better. A few of the scenes didn’t add up and I found myself getting lost a couple of times; for instance, one scene where Zuri is at Jax’s house and cleaning his wounds, it ends with them talking on the couch but in the next chapter the same scene was happening but they ended up having sex in the bathroom instead of going to the couch. Other than that, I think it was nice overall.
Jax and Zuri meet when she enters his room to stitch him up. He has a rough demeanor and is impressed with the way Zuri handles him. The hospital encounter starts their journey. Jax and his MC is in the midst of a turf war but his connection with Zuri opens him up to see that he has a heart in spite of his military and MC encounters. She sees inside of him, and he wants to make their relationship work. Do they have what it takes to get to the next level with a happily ever after as the end result. I’m usually not one to pick out holes in the story, but this book had too many inconsistencies. I mean who gets off a plane and goes straight to the hospital with bags and all and juststarts working? Your first patient needs sutures and you have time to sit there and close them up, but they haven’t internal bleeding at the same time. How do you know there’s internal bleeding? Nobody looked at anything. it was too many holes. I could not finish this book. I’m not a stickler for things being realistic. It doesn’t have to be realistic, it a book. but it has to make sense.
This book tells of ex-military men who come together to form a group-giving vets a place to be welcomed and treated with respect. Even though they are a motorcycle club they try to do good. Something always comes up to challenge them. The president "Jax", gets hurt in an auto accident and meets this feisty nurse, who tends to him in the er. There is a pull between them that they can't deny, although she is wary of his lifestyle, Nurse Jackson falls for him anyway.
he was sexy and overprotective for everyone in his world. he fell in instant love with Zuri, and she found him dangerous. sexy and dangerous. she wanted to be with him but didn't know how to do it. to make it work. but with effort and a whole lot of stubbornness, they were going to make it work. I do love a strong biker character, and Jax was that.
Would have liked a little more action between Snake and Hammer. But I understand why Hammer was tired of situations becoming violent. A lot of his Brothers were getting hurt as a result.
I liked Zura, she was a strong and intelligent, confident woman. Hammer needed that type of woman in his life. They were a great match as a couple and team.
Let me first say that the idea and the wrting is good. The issuse is the editing and the continuity.
This is the first book I have ever DNF. I will come back and review that book if the issues of chapters not flowing with actions are ever fixed..meaning i iwll try again in six months.
“I glance down at her face, peaceful and content. She's got this beauty that's raw and unfiltered, like she doesn't even realize how stunning she is. Her skin is rich and smooth, and I can't resist tracing the line of her jaw with my thumb.”
There was no flow. This story jumped all over the place. No cohesion whatsoever. This made it hard to read as it seemed the writer was not focused so neither was the storyline.
