When Sally Killed Harry is such a catchy FUN title-but unfortunately it was NOT a fun book, and it most definitely didn’t resemble the movie it gets its name from-in any way.

“ THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY. THIS IS A ROM COM GONE ROGUE”-is the quote on the book cover but that isn’t accurate either, as this was never a romance, nor was it a comedy-IMO-which is what I was expecting when I took a chance on this book.

So, what will you be getting if you pick this one up?

MISOGYNY is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls-and that word is used at least five times in the first half of the book alone-as Sally is played by a con man named Harry that she met on a dating APP. Yet, it is HER hatred of men that really stands out.

After the con- Sally forms a group with other women who have been wronged setting up the second half of the book-where they will all seek their REVENGE against the catfishers, domestic abusers, bosses who abuse their power, rapists and murderers who have made them VICTIMS.

There isn’t a single good man in the book.

A CAUTIONARY TALE for women who confuse good sex with love or who don’t realize that a monster can hide behind “good looks”…but, unfortunately it was a one dimensional story that relies on being crass for shock value.

I am sure that readers who relish a good REVENGE story, may enjoy this more than I did-but no book is for every reader, and it just wasn’t a good fit for me.

A buddy read with Ceecee. Please check out her amazing review to find out if this was any more satisfying for her.

I like the setting of wronged women teaming up to take out bad men but this one was not good.

To name a few problems:
 - The characters are flat and defined entirely by their relationship with men
 - Everything happens almost by magic to make the plot move along (like you talk to someone over a cigarette break and 5 minutes later they have shared their whole life story and are ready to join your secret avenger group???)
 - Every storyline ends up the same, in the last 50 pages
 - My favourite, the MC has been drugged and conned by a man she had 4 dates with, but she's still feels 'such a connection' with him???

I'm sorry but it just didn't work for me, but thank you Avon Books for this ARC.

So, goodbye Harry it’s been quite something knowing you. How did Sally end up killing Harry? She’s moved to New York City from London only to find that the men are just terrible in the Big Apple as in the capital. Maybe it’s you Sally? Just a thought. After several bad dates, Harry Collins dating profile catches her eye. “Charming, requires little sleep, impulsive”. A match surely made in heaven, no, scratch that, hell.

This is marketed as a “RomCom gone rogue”. Where is the Rom? There’s some occasional sizzle but definitely no Rom. What about the Com? Well, I search in vain for it but it’s sadly lacking. Perhaps there’s an occasional bit of wit but that hardly constitutes a Com. The subject matter is far too dark for it ever to be considered to fall into this category. You’d expect to find funny banter but I’m afraid a lot of that’s as dull as ditchwater. Now, let’s consider the rogue. I think what we have here is a revenge thriller which becomes an over egged and somewhat leaden pudding. There’s one incident after another that happens to a bunch of unfortunate women. It’s just too much. In addition, the constant referencing to vile men gets very tedious. Yes, of course there are awful men out there, that is sadly undeniable and they deserve every payback they get but this is unrelenting.

It’s clear this novel is not to my taste and it is worth checking out other reviews as others like the novel considerably more than I do.

With thanks to NetGalley and Avon books for the arc in return for an honest review.

“There's being ghosted. Then there's being fucking poltergeisted.”

When Sally Killed Harry is a bold, unapologetic, and raw exploration of frustration, fury, and the simmering rage women feel when the world constantly asks them to tiptoe around their own pain.

Our main girl Sally is not here to make friends or to win anyone's approval. She’s angry, cynical, and actually, really unlikable. She’s also hilariously witty, sharp, and unfiltered. Sure, Sally might describe her own appearance in the most narcissistic way possible "brown shoulder-length hair cascading like silk, red lips stained perfectly, eyeliner sharp" but honestly? You've kind of got to appreciate the audacity.

Sally isn’t just killing Harry; she’s waging war on a system that has, for too long, glorified men’s actions and swept women's voices under the rug. The book might seem, at first glance, like an anti-man manifesto. A “feminist rage" novel you’re either all in for or completely against. But I think it’s more nuanced than that. It’s less about "man-hating" and more about exposing the cracks in a deeply flawed system. It’s the frustration of seeing too many horror stories in the news, too many friends whispering about their experiences, too many women standing alone in a world that keeps telling them to be quiet.

”Can a girl not have a violent fantasy without getting interrupted these days?"

Does it go too far? Maybe. But the fact that people are uncomfortable with it is exactly why it needs to be said. I’ve read reviews that critique this book for "bashing men" and actually I think they might be missing the point. When Sally Killed Harry isn’t about hating men; it's about amplifying the voices that have been silenced and empowering women to claim their space, their stories, and their anger.

”And you know what really makes me sick? Every nickname, every headline, every fucking three seasons worth of documentaries or dramas. Every fucking thing is all about them. Their actions. Like we're nobody in our own stories."

So I opted to listen to this on audio and I have to say that I am relieved that I did! I would probably have DNF'd this had I read it physically! This book is described as a "rom-com thriller" but if I am being honest, I did not find either within this book! 😕 This is basically a revenge thriller but I personally found too many flaws within this book to rate it higher than I did! I did enjoy the woman empowerment, however they were all connected within one conversation (as strangers!!) And the ending was good, but literally, the whole point of the book was wrapped up within the last 10%!
Sadly, I would not recommend this! 😓

When Sally Killed Harry will be released on March 27th. Sally wakes up in New York broke, hungover, and realizing she’s been conned by the charming yet deceitful Harry. Determined to get revenge, she bands together with other wronged women to turn his life upside down.
Unfortunately I did not enjoy the narration style and the whole story felt a bit over the top.

A revenge story you are not going to want to miss out on. The book follows Sally, a woman with a dark past and a complex background who finds herself waking up one morning with the worlds worse hangover, her bank account empty and the realisation that the man behind this nightmare may just have been the man of her dreams, the guy with all the charm, the man she has been dating, Harry. Realising she has been swindled Sally must take her next steps and when she finds out she is not the only victim a plan is put into action. Setting up a group of wronged women the revenge story begins and Harry wont see what is coming his way, he may have started the game but Sally is hell bent on finishing it.

I loved this story. From the catchy smart title of the book down to the pacing of this book. The side characters all had depth and we found ourself as the reader just as interest in them as our FMC. We see these women grow on their journey of revenge and the rage felt by all these women is something that feels so real and compelling. The modern feeling of this book draws you in even more and is sure to allow readers of multiple ages to feel connected and able to relate to the story. We learn parts of Sally's story in sections throughout the book making her the friend we all want and the enemy we should all fear. Right down to the last page we have secrets revealed and I was left craving more from Sally!
The downfalls I felt were small here but I have to mention that I would have liked certain scenes to have more detailing and gore but overall this was a fun read, perfect for women who want to lean into a revenge story and perfect for fans of Katy Brent for I felt this had similar feel to some of her books too. I would recommend this book to everyone but especially the women in my life. This was a brilliant modern revenge story that tapped into serious topics but also added elements of humour at the right time.

I can honestly say, hand on heart, I have NEVER read a book quite like this.

First thank you to Avon publisher and the Author for the ARC copy.

When I read the description it sounded interesting and had me wanting to read more and so here we are..I never actually expected it to be what it was though, it was so much more than I thought it was going to be.

Sally has had a heartbreaking childhood which in turn made her angry and cynical. When Sally is wronged once again by a man, she teams up with other wronged women to form a group to rally behind each other.

Sally doesn’t just want what he took back she wants revenge and won’t stop until she’s gotten it but revenge for Sally is so much more than you’d expect.

Can’t say I was a big fan of the obsession she seemed to have with Harry, her every thought seemed to go to him and her revenge towards him was completely over the top in my opinion.

Other than that I quite enjoyed reading this. It was thrilling to see what these women were going to do next.

It was funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. Hearing those women’s stories and their hurt was so sad.

When Sally Killed Harry is a revenge thriller focused on women getting revenge on men who have taken advantage and hurt them. It’s about women empowering women and standing by each other no matter what. It’s a touch dark but all around an interesting, fast paced read.

Thank you NetGalley and to Lucy Roth for access to the early copy of When Sally Killed Harry!!

I really, really enjoyed this. (Sorry I’m pants at in depth reviews)

The narration style was very fun, it felt like as a reader you were living in Sally’s head. At times, this was dark, sad and infuriating as Sally’s past was hinted at and replayed throughout the story.

It’s a tale of female revenge on all the males who have wronged them, the revenge takes multiple forms and honestly parts of this left me cringing as I imagined some of the things going on in this book. The relationships between the women were empowering, empathetic and very wholesome. It was such an interesting story and reminded me a bit of the Bandit Queens, just a lot more gruesome and rage filled. 😆

I really enjoyed Sally’s character. She was very interesting and by the end of the book, I didn’t know whether to love her or be afraid of her 🥲

The twist, I did not see coming!!! But thought was clever and well woven into the story.

4⭐️ - really enjoyed it, flew through it, just SOME parts felt a little far fetched, but not enough that it made me doubt the storyline or enjoy it any less :)

These were all my honest thoughts :)

OUT ON MARCH 27th!!

As soon as I read the blurb for this book, I thought it sounded right up my street and I thought I was in for a good time. And thankfully that is exactly what I got!
Right from the start I was hooked. I was fully interested and invested in the characters and I couldn't put it down.
I liked the writing style, the characters and the setting. It really was such an easy, fast paced, entertaining read that had me smiling throughout.
I did like the fact that we follow the story solely through the main character Sally's POV. I found her to be likeable and I was fully on her side throughout.
This was packed full of good for her energy and was a great depiction of female friendships.
I'm not sure why I have seen so many bad reviews for this book as I had such a great time reading it, so if the blurb sounds good to you, I urge you to give it a go.
This is a debut novel from this author and I will definitely be reading more from her in the future!
I loved it!

Thanks to Avon Books and Netgalley for the ARC I received in exchange for an honest review

When Sally Killed Harry - the twist on a classic rom com just as the title suggests. Sally has her guard up while dating in NYC, where she recently moved to from her home in London.

When the man she starts dating, and who she gives a chance to, proves her right (never trust men). She forms an unlikely alliance that snowballs into an Oceans 8 style support group.

There is depth in every character in this book however the biggest annoyance for me, is Sally’s constant fixation on Harry. She is angry at men for so many reasons but there multiple times she fixates on her fantasies of him and I just thought this didn’t make sense with her character’s motivations.

Thanks to Avon and NetGalley for this ARC ✨

Revenge is best served with friends.

I absolutely devoured this 👏🏻
This is one of my favourite types of book to read. I love when a female gets revenge and the lengths to which she’ll go to achieve it.

This one felt slightly different as it was more ‘I hate the men who’ve done bad things’ and a little less ‘I hate every man’ which can sometimes come across in others.

The story is pretty obvious, the title gives away the plot. However, the amount of things that happened in this book that I wasn’t expecting, was brilliant! They were dotted throughout and it meant the book had great pacing and made me want to keep reading.

I loved Priya’s storyline the most, I wish there was a little more said but it was so unexpected.

The way Sally befriended the other girls was lovely and they came together to better themselves and their situations. Some Women 💪🏻

Sallys relationship with Harry made you feel that pull. Being torn in different direction as to what was morally right and wrong.

I just wish the book was a bit longer. I could have carried on reading 📖

Female rage is fast becoming one of my favourite genres - it's so refreshing to see women depicted as being driven by their base instincts rather than hemmed in by society's expectations. Obviously, I don't advocate running off and murdering men (even if they are truly terrible men) in the name of feminism...but it makes for fun reading! Also, I find that these books often show deep female relationships and that was definitely the case here.

The general premise is one that I think most women have at least second-hand, if not first-hand, experience of: being cat-fished/abused/conned/insert heinous behaviour by a man they thought was decent. The fallout from these encounters can last a lifetime and fundamentally change who we are. After being spiked and robbed of her savings, Sally decides to get her own back. Along the way, she meets Marie, whose husband beats and berates her incessantly. Together they create the 'Some Women' club to help each other and their friends/colleagues/women they randomly meet wreak their revenge.

The whole thing is ridiculously far-fetched and over the top, but that's what makes it so enjoyable. It's women in glorious technicolour roaming the sleek bars and rooftop terraces of New York and claiming scalps. There is a tender element to the book as well, both from Sally's earlier life, which we see in flashbacks, and in the joy she takes from the blossoming of Marie, who was probably my favourite character. Are the men in the book one-dimensional tropes? Yes, but we've had to put up with female characters being this way for eternity, so why not?

When Sally Killed Harry is the first revenge thriller from Lucy Roth, the pen name of author Lucy Nichols.

The title plays on the classic rom-com, but the cover makes it clear that this is one gone rogue.

The first 20% or so focuses on Sally’s dating history, whilst not my usual style, the humour and Sally’s brilliant character kept me engaged. After that, strap in, because we’re firmly in feminist thriller territory. Oh yes!

Sally, is a single Brit living in NYC with her housemate, Priya. It is gradually revealed why she left London and also what has bonded the two so closely. Venturing back into the dating scene, Sally meets Harry. He seems perfect and she’s doing her best not to catch or give into feelings. He’s perfect – until he’s not. One morning, Sally wakes with a raging headache, realising she has been spiked and her bank account emptied. It isn’t a rom-com Sally is in after all, it’s a rom-con.

This leads Sally to befriending a wide range of women. This is a group that wouldn’t necessarily usually hang out together – we have women of all ages, backgrounds, faith etc. However their unlikely friendship is forged by the fact they have all been wronged by bad men. Together, they form a clandestine group, meeting under the alias of the Thursday Feminist Book Club.

“But in reality, you find the love of your life in the form of other women.”

You’ll be rooting for them and as the book progresses, we get a real insight into what drives Sally. Funny, thrilling and full of great song choices!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for providing this book, with my honest review below.

When Harry met Sally is such a classic, but it was time for a twist with When Sally Killed Harry. Not at all reminiscent of that film (so it’s still safe if you’re a fan) this story dives into a woman who is out of revenge against a conman who slid into her dating app. What makes Sally’s revenge even better is that she’s not content to sit and take out her anger on Harry when she sees other woman being conned and treated badly, forming a vigilante support group to take justice into their own hands.

I need to disclaimer that Sally is disturbed pre dating Harry (literally) and so while this is a ‘you go girl’ feeling book it’s also not all fun and games as Sally is a complex character who has been hurt in the past and she’s incredibly morally grey, which may be to expected. Still, I had to support her as she helped bring other women out of their shell and empowered them. There were some opportunities to make the story smoother as there were times we jumped around in terms of supporting character’s personalities and development rather wildly to the point of disbelief, not to mention Sally’s own reckoning(s). But I did love the core story and Sally as a character was developed quite well.

The blurb;
This is the story of how I killed Harry Collins. Destined to be the great love of my life – until one day I wake up in the Big Apple with the world's worst hangover, an empty bank account, and the sinking feeling that my life just nosedived. How it happened is a blur, but one thing is clear: I’ve been swindled and I’m not happy about it. When I discover I’m not the only victim, I decide it’s only right I take my revenge. And with a group of wronged women behind me, murder isn’t on the agenda yet because Harry’s in for a nightmare and I’m only just getting started…

My thoughts;
This book is perfect for fans of Katy Brent’s HTKMAGAWI and IBYLGIAC- Sally reminded me a little of Kitty Collins and I enjoyed the similarities in the books themes and the support group.

The book is medium paced, and told from Sally’s pov. As the story evolves, we get little glimmers of Sally’s mysterious past and the trauma that she faced.

I liked Sally, she is strong and determined and a great support to the new found friends around her. She was quite fixated on Harry throughout the book, but this book was about Sally and Harry so it made sense.

I really enjoyed this one, and hope to read more from this author in the future. Thank you to Netgalley and Avon books for the advance copy of this book. Opinions expressed here are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I knew before I started it was a revenge story. It’s darkly funny, and I’m sure every woman has had an awful experience with men who decide they will do what they want and they don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. It’s a book I could insert names of exes, of mine and friends and although it takes the theme one step further, I couldn’t put this down. The author has gone through so many scenarios here and although we always hear the ‘it’s not all men’ and we know it’s not, but it’s definitely all women that something has happened too. While it sounds like a novel written from sheer anger, it’s not just about anger. It’s injustice, humour, humanity and the sheer power that women can have if they’re willing to take it back. I’m not suggesting the methods written, just that women look out for each other more. Also, that men speak up when seeing wrongdoing against women. I loved this book and would say it’s dark, funny and dangerous and filled with emotion of all kinds.
With thanks to the publisher and the author for the advanced reading copy of the book.

I bought this as a gift for someone to go with their Easter egg as I know they love reading. This then popped up on offer for 99p so I bought myself a copy for my kindle.

After finishing the book I really don't know how I feel. Or what the person I bought the book for will think of me after they finish this book as it is full of female rage 😂.

I'm not sure whether to love or hate this book so I've gone for "liked". I liked this book. The book is funny, it’s dark, it’s twisted, it touched upon trauma and ACES. The book has you rooting for Sally from start to finish! It's a quick binge read book and I did enjoy the twists and turns.

When Sally killed Harry was a dark funny humorous read but I felt like there were portions left unanswered about other things going on in the book and this made the book feel rushed. This is why I didn't love the book. Although there is potential for a book series.

As I said overall, I enjoyed the book it's a fresh take on a psychological thriller. I would still recommend this to anyone who enjoys female rage and revenge stories. When Sally killed Harry " is not a love story, it is rom-com gone rogue!" 🔪

When I saw this book on NetGalley I was intrigued, I read the blurb and thought this is going to be interesting. Indeed the idea of the book was interesting however, I really struggled from start to end and it was unenjoyable to read at times. It felt like a rollercoaster ride throughout the whole thing, the story would really pick up, capturing my attention for a bit and then fall flat, then it would pick back up again and then fall flat again.

The story also seemed rushed sometimes as there’s no flow from one end of the chapter to another. It seemed to abruptly end and start somewhere else immediately. Also, I didn’t have any attachment to the characters at all even though, as a reader, we know what they all go through as their stories unfold.

I really liked the idea of Sally getting her revenge on Harry for drugging her and stealing all her money and along the way, she was gathering all females who went through similar experience with males and creating her own support group to get revenge for not only herself but for others too. I mean this clearly shows the definition of #girlpower! It was a nice touch that the author had portrayed the message of SA and how men get away with things through the experience of each female characters. However, it’s such a shame how the story didn’t capture much emotions because I think it could have done better.

Thank you to NetGalley and AvonBooksUK for the advance copy of the book.

Sally is waking up in the Big Apple with the world’s worst hangover, an empty bank account, and the sinking feeling that her life just nosedived. Last night's escapade is a blur, but one thing is clear, she’s been swindled and she’s not happy about it. The culprit? Harry, a total dreamboat but also Sally’s worst nightmare as he’s full of charm, secrets & a smile that screams trouble. Little does she know that Harry's not just a pretty face – he's a liar, conman and he’s turned Sally’s life upside down. Intent on taking her revenge, and armed with a group of wronged women behind her, Sally has set her sights on making Harry’s life a nightmare, with murder potentially on the menu…THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY. THIS IS A ROM COM GONE ROGUE.

This is definitely in the revenge thriller genre, following in the steps of popular releases by Katy Brent & Bella Mackie, with the strong-minded, independent woman (or indeed women in this book) taking the lead in having the power fall in their favour rather than the typical ‘man’s world’ ideology.

Now it’s clear throughout this title that important themes are at the heart of the story, covering issues including domestic violence, rape & drugs. I do love the ‘girl power’ & female camaraderie formed in this story, the women all meeting & coming together through a series of different incidents, highlighting just how toxic some relationships in life can be.

I feel however that the thriller aspect is quite loose with not much suspense created, the flow felt a little disconnected at times with several different story lines crossing over, which sometimes made it a little confusing to follow. I’m afraid I also wasn’t a huge fan of a certain profanity used quite frequently, appreciate this was to convey the anger of the characters but it’s just something personally I felt didn’t sit right in this context.

The way the background of Sally’s life, the loss of her mother & the reasoning as to why she was so angry with life, is interjected between the action is executed well, giving the needed context as to why Sally’s character is the way she is. It provided the basis as to why the group of women she befriended were so important.

I feel like the conclusion wasn’t exactly what I was expecting it to build up to, everything was indeed tied up but feel it fell a little flat. It is billed as a ‘romcom gone rogue’ and it certainly is different, albeit a little confused as the overall direction. I did however enjoy the writing style, which did keep me reading through till the end.

This is okay for a throw away beach read, but the storyline isn’t particularly original - there are so many women taking revenge on bad men novels out at the moment - and, frankly, this falls beneath par against some of those.
That said, it’s an easy read and whilst the main character is pretty two dimensional, the book still has its enjoyable moments.

This was my first book by this author, and it was a real page-turner.

This is a story of found family/you go girl vibes, as Sally (who is morally grey to begin with) finds an opportunity to get revenge on a slick conman who slid into her DMs.

Realizing she’s not alone, she unites with other women wronged by the same man and pursues revenge. The whole “you messed with the wrong woman” theme was fun to read, and I recommend it.

I was happy to have received an ARC of this from Netgalley, and I voluntarily leave my review.

Sorry, but I found this to be yet another lackluster mystery/thriller novel. Especially because this had so much potential.

Sally has been conned by Harry and so she digs into him life and learns that she is not the only one he has conned...and so she makes a plan...

This definitely did have its fun moments and its serious moments (commentary on gender norms and hierarchies, that kind of thing).

I just don't think I like this writing style. It felt stream of conscious-y and I really don't vibe with that most of the time. I think that only works in your journal. It made the writing feel stunted and it didn't flow. Especially when something besides the main character' inner monologue/opinions were being discussed/happening. It's jarring, almost switching from style to another. And it feels immature and annoying at times. The opposite of lyrical writing.

Sorry if that was harsh, but that style's annoyance really has a cumulative impact on me. The more I read, the more I found myself skimming just to so I wouldn't get AS annoyed as I could've. And that cannot be a good thing.

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

I've enjoyed the author's work previously, but this seemed like it was going to be a bit of a departure from that, so I was interested to see what it would be like. Pleased to say it was a lot of fun - a dark tale of revenge, following Sally and her friends turning the tables on the bad men in their lives.

I would recommend caution for people of a more nervous disposition - some of the events and themes in the book could be upsetting to some people.

Thanks to the author and Netgalley for the ARC.
