TLDR; Super super good book!!!! Definitely different from my usual reads but super good nonetheless. Each story was different and had something special about so even if you are just the smallest fan of horror, you can definitely find something you like in this anthology. I highly recommend this, drink some Pepto before though. Just in case.
So I am definitely not new to horror. I mean, I have ghost face tattooed on me for fucks sake. I am not new to horror. But this book had me audibly gasping, gagging, and cringing away. If I had pearls I would be clutching them for sure.
This is a horror anthology with five short stories included and each one is completely different - however each one raised my blood pressure. I literally could not put it down and instead of watching the Steelers get destroyed, I read this.
I also got this book for free as an ARC but rest assured, the therapy I will have to go through will not be free. so thanks for that guys ! Super fun!
First Story Lovers Through the Looking Glass
Man, am I happy I saved my scheduled acid trip for tomorrow and not tonight because Jesus Christ that was an experience. I love Alice in the Wonderland so much and always have so this was an exceptionally interesting take on it. It had quite the opening scene and I am really glad this was the first series because it sure did set the tone. The imagery was insane and the amount of just like mind fuckery was INSANE. I did not want to put it down, and since I always get what I want, I didn't.
Second Story All For The Greater Good
Greater good my ass. This shit was spooky. But like good spooky, like I can't put this down and just out of curiosity when was the last time I had my house blessed spooky and I loved it. This was such a creepy short story, while I am typing this I am getting the heebie jeebies. The ending was absolutely heartbreaking and I was so close to upchucking my dinner because of the well done descriptions.
Third Story 13 Nights With Emma
Now this one... this one was not spooky at all. I am not sure if the author intended it to be as funny as it was but I was laughing at some points. I really was. And thats not to say I didn't enjoy it, because trust me I did. With the two previous stories being so extreme, this one was a little more lighthearted and I needed that break in the middle. It was cute, it was fun, and I didn't put it down.
Fourth Story 13th Annual Autumn Festival
HAHAHA, you got me ! Wow what a prank queen! I thought this was going to be just a really creepy haunted house. No. It wasn't. And now I will not be stepping foot in a haunted house ever again.
So thanks for that.
I was super nauseous during this read but it was so good. The author did an amazing job of making it seem like it was going to be just a sweat little story before it turned into something decidedly not sweet. It had a crazy twist and I really enjoyed it.
Fifth Story The Woods
Jesus Christ, I almost yakked during this one about five times but god was it good. The imagery, the characters, the revenge. So good, so so good. The creatures that were portrayed were so vivid it was impossible to not imagine them, and if I could I would have chose not to do that because dayum some of them bitches were disgusting.
I don't think I have ever stepped foot in woods before, but rest assured everyone I won't be now.
Okay, well now I am going to rewatch episodes of new girl to chase away some of the images I will have in my brain forever from this.
All in all, this was a really great book and I loved it so much. There are so many different aspects to each horror story that if you are even a tiny fan of horror you can find something you like.
If you’re a Halloweenie, you’ll probably love this.
An anthology of five stories, it’s a quick read with plenty of entertainment. I didn’t love all of the stories; a couple genuinely creeped me out so the authors of those hit their mark! One story was so trippy (as it was supposed to be) that I had to keep stopping and rereading just to make sure that’s what I was really reading… if that makes sense. Though I’m sure many will love that particular one, for me it gave me a headache.
With spooky season upon us, if you’re trying assemble a reading list of Halloween centered books then you'll want to add this one!
These 5 short stories were all different and amazing, just in time for spooky season! The suspense was getting to me, I wanted more! I feel everyone will like at least one of these stories! If you love Halloween, then definitely check this book out!

What a fun collection! Each author put their unique & delightfully spooky signature on this theme of 13. I enjoyed each story but some more than others, which makes me think there is something here for everyone who enjoys a good Halloween vibe.
This is the perfect Halloween book! It has a little bit of everything. I totally recommend adding this to your spooky season TBR!
🦊Lovers through the Looking Glass🪞 By KJ Bradford
This story blew me away! I loved it sooo much!It was creepy and intoxicating! This is a brilliant twist on Through the Looking Glass. The ending gave me chills!
🩸All for the Greater Good🩸 By Libby James
This was a spooky witchy story that had me hooked from the start. It’s not your typical witch story and had twist and turns you don’t see coming.
👻13 Nights with Emma🎶 By TJ Lundin
This is a unique twist on a haunted house paranormal romance ghost story. I ate it up! The ending did not disappoint!!
🎡 13th Annual Autumn Festival🤡 By Twyla Menezes
This was scary! Halloween festival with creepy clowns plus psychopaths in masks in an insane asylum. Loved it!! The ending was 🫣!
🔥The Woods🌲 By Sunny J Rowley
The was another great story with witchy vibes! This witch is sacrificed to an otherworldly forest with evil monsters and a handsome Wolf Lord fae! The ending was epic!
Thank you to the authors for gifting me this eARC in exchange for my honest review
This anthology takes the staples of spooky season tales: haunted items, ghosts, autumn festivals, spooky woods, and brings them together in a literary Halloween festival that promises thrills, but doesn't promise everyone will make it out in the end. It's a good collection for fans of Halloween horrors and classic spooky tales.
Each story is different, which makes it a great read during the season. It's the first I read at the start of October to get in the feel. It makes me want to read more books like those stories within.
It's hard to choose, which was my favorite. Be mindful of any triggers.
For me, this collection of stories was good, just not great. The last two stories in the collection I really enjoyed, but the others were just ok. This is not a put down of the authors, because the writing of all the stories was really good…those stories just didn’t resonate with me or excite me. All of the stories were different, with twists I didn’t see coming. And the characters were all varied and intriguing. I definitely recommend you check this book out if you enjoy these types of stories!
This was my first ever arc read and I loved doing it, it was so much fun and I for sure want to do more in the future.
This book will get a 3.5 from me. I definitely went out of my comfort zone with this one for sure. The third one and the last one were probably my favorites of them all. The first two I didn’t quite vibe with, but at the same time I also didn’t understand them very well, so that is why this book is getting a 3.5 instead of 4 stars.
But if you’re a fan of Halloween and horror books, definitely check this one out, just make sure to check the trigger warnings first.
Lovers Through the Looking Glass by K.J. Bradford ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This story was breathtakingly hauntingly dark and creepy. This was such a twisted and unique take on Alice in wonderland. I felt like I was tripping right along with her reading this, it messes with your mind in a beautiful way.
All For The Greater Good by Libby James It was a good little read not spooky or creepy. However it was definitely interesting and kept your attention.. The ending left me wanting more like do they all die? Do some live? Do the children get revenge? What happened to Margret?
13 Nights With Emma by T.J. Lundin This was such a sweet paranormal romance that was a cute twist on a haunted house. It was a fun little tale of death and love even after death.
13th Annual Autumn Festival by Twyla Menezes
Don’t fall for the trap of thinking this is just gonna be a cute little Halloween tale of friends having a good time. Creeps in doll mask oh how I hate dolls and creepy clowns the making of a creepy story for sure. Now ass in a Halloween haunted house and an abounded asylum what could go right?
The Woods by Sunny J Rowley This is absolutely my favourite story of the whole book. It’s was so beautifully written the imagery was vivid you could see it all right infront of you like you where watching it take place
With spooky season coming this could be your next read. There is something for everyone on this anthology.
I was able to enjoy this book as an ARC reader, and this is my honest review:
If you enjoy spooky stories, Halloween, tricks AND treats, I highly recommend giving this book a shot. Each short story was very enjoyable, kept me at the edge of my seat, and left me wanting more (seriously, if each one was made into a longer book of it's own, I'd totally read them). There's something here for everyone - even if this isn't your typical type of book, give it a go anyway, I don't think you'll regret it (and you may even thank me for recommending you do so)!
DNF at 35%. I read the first story all the way through, and I stopped part way through the second story. The 1st one just didn't make any sense, but the second was an unedited mess. I couldn't even finish the second story, between the robotic dialogue and awful grammar (come for me if you want, I'm not selling myself based on the quality of my writing).
I am completely new to anthologies and they aren't something I typically pick up to read. I am really glad I did with this one though! This is a really fun mix of stories and it's a surprisingly easy and fast read! While not every story was my favorite type of horror (I just don't find clowns that scary and I have no idea why), I really enjoyed reading all of them! It's the perfect book to bring to a bonfire so you can freak your friends out before bed! Not to mention the black eyed kids will haunt my dreams forevermore.
